Chapter 10

Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don't. - Bill Nye

I smash the bottle I've been nursing for the last hour against the wall. I watch in morbid fascination as it shatters into a thousand little pieces. The apartment is in ruins around me as everything is upturned and smashed beyond repair. How I feel on the inside right now.

"Alba." I groan and throw my head back in annoyance as his voice calls my name.

"Stefan." I smirk twisting on my heel to face the one person I mistakenly put my trust in. "Long time no see, did you come back to pay your respects? Because if so you can just turn right around and walk back out that door." I smile humorless watching his mouth turn down in shame.

"Alba I am so sorry if I would have known this would happen I-"I hold up my hand cutting him off.

"You don't need to apologize Stefan; this had nothing to do with you. I mean how could I blame you for leaving to live your own life? Don't add more unnecessary guilt to your already polluted conscious." I state bitterly turning around to search for another bottle.

"Alba it's been a month since your mom, you need to stop blaming yourself." Stefan whispers softly so softly I almost don't hear him. But I do.

"You do not get to tell me what to do!" I snap grabbing his throat and smashing him against the wall. He gawks at me as he struggles under my hold. I gasp softly as I release him and take a step back. That has never happened before. Even as a child I knew I had more strength than most, but that was something completely different. I turn my back on Stefan as I try to sort everything out in my mind.

"Alba…"

"Just go Stefan." I reply huskily feeling the tears I've been pushing away pooling in my eyes.

"Al, you can't do this by yourself." He persists as I hear glass crunch under his shoes as he advances towards me.

"You left Stefan. You don't get to come back and everything is alright. I can do this on my own and I will." I straighten my shoulders feeling anything, but strong at the moment. A small minuscule part of me hopes that when I turn around my Steffy will be standing there with his arms open. But the larger part of me that knows he wouldn't stay isn't surprised when I turn around and find him gone.

I gasp for air as I'm suddenly pulled back to the present. I blink as I try to collect my bearings. I'm still in the same place with the same woman who has been using me as her personal cutting board. Apparently the less blood I have in my system, the weaker I am, and the easier it is to get in my head.

"That was the moment you realized the only person you could depend on in this world was yourself." Anya says from somewhere behind me. I roll my head cracking my neck before sighing dramatically.

"Actually that was the moment I realized I drank all my liquor and was too drunk to buy more." I fake sadness as she comes into view. "It was a hard time in my life." I grin when she chuckles to herself going to the table in the corner. I've deemed it her happy corner considering the only time she smiles is when she's picking out a tool that will inevitably cause me pain.

"Well I have to say I'm impressed, it's been almost three days and you've yet to lose that attitude of yours." She says inspecting a scalpel that I've only witnessed on Greys Anatomy.

"Oh do I get a prize?" I smile tracking her with my eyes as she walks over to me.

"That you do," She says bending down to get in my face. Her eyes are a dark brown almost black and scars mar her face almost unnoticeable next to her wrinkles of time. "But just what to give you?" She ponders inching the scalpel to my face so the cool metal slides over my dirty cheek. She hasn't cut me yet, but I know she's giving it thought.

"Hmm how about a bottle of Jack? Wait no…maybe some Jim Bean will do." I give her a cocky half-smile as she laughs before grabbing my face roughly. I've come to figure out it's not hard to frustrate her.

"Or I could cut this pretty little face of yours and delve back into all those memories you keep locked away?" She grits trying to intimidate me.

"Who do you think I am? Caroline Forbes? Cut anywhere you want. I'll still be prettier than you." I smirk lazily as the first cut is slashed right across my cheek. I close my eyes and bite my tongue as the rest follow.

Damon Salvatore wastes no time pouring himself his afternoon scotch. After all he does deserve it after the night he had. He succeeded in failing yet again at killing the Original hybrid only this time it was his own brother that got in the way. He should have known better than to trust his compelled little brother. That was Damon's second mistake of the night, his first was Alba. He hasn't seen or heard from her since he stormed over to her house only to find her in Klaus's shirt. This image alone sends shards of glass crumbling at Damon's feet as he crushes the glass in his hands. He proceeds to pour himself another drink as he washes away any thoughts of the hybrid and Alba together. However, that proves to be a little difficult when Damon turns around to find no one else but Klaus himself standing in the doorway.

"I think it's about time we had a drink, don't you?" His cocky British accent sends Damon's blood boiling, but he's nothing if not calm and collected.

"I'd say we're overdue," Damon smiles lazily watching the hybrid warily.

"Well, you've been so busy with your plotting and scheming." Klaus says bitterly walking over to Damon.

"You know me. Never miss a chance to plan an epic failure." Damon quips downing half his drink in one go. He knows he's a failure, there's no need for Klaus to come here and rub salt in his wound.

"Don't be so hard on yourself. Who could have guessed that your own brother would betray you?" Klaus mocks a small smirk sliding onto his face.

"Well, I did have a front row seat when your sister lied to you." Damon smiles knowing that stung Klaus as much as his comment about Stefan's betrayal hurt him.

"Yeah, well she´s fickle that one. And you say you have no idea of her whereabouts?" Klaus asks already well aware that Damon knows where his sister is, he just needs Damon's cooperation.

"That's the thing with younger siblings. You just never know what they are going to do." Damon smiles without humor before draining his glass. "Drink." He motions to the table as he turns to pour him and Klaus a glass.

"Cheers Mate." Klaus toasts once Damon hands him his drink.

"Down the hatch." Damon glares as they both drink without taking their eyes off the other. The tension in the air is almost palpable as Klaus starts to move around the room.

"You know we've actually got a lot in common you and I." Klaus says making Damon internally roll his eyes.

"Really? Well, yeah. Maybe we can bond over our mutual loathing of my brother. Why are you so mad at him? He stole something?" Damon questions pouring himself another glass.

"My family, the Originals. I had them dagger'd, boxed-up awaiting the day when I saw fit to wake them. And he went in and pinched the bloody lot." Klaus takes a hit off his drink while Damon walks to the window.

"Of course he did. Such a buzz kill, my baby bro." Damon laughs lightly to himself almost nervously as he tries to keep up the charade. He was going to find and kill Stefan if he made it out of this room alive. "Well, I´d love to find him. Just the trouble is I sure as hell don't work for you." Damon finishes coming to stand behind Klaus. He watches in slight amusement as Klaus turns around a smile on his face.

"That may be so, but Stefan took something else as well. Something I think you will find to be of greater value to yourself." Klaus takes another sip of his drink a slight smirk turning up his lips. Damon raises an eyebrow in mock curiosity.

"Yeah and what might that be?" Damon asks not the least bit interested. There's nothing Stefan would take that would be of any importance to both him and Klaus.

"It seems young Stefan has taken Alba," Klaus drawls knowing for a fact this would catch Damon's attention. And he's right when he sees the flash of pure fury behind the oldest Salvatore's eyes. "And he's quite keen on keeping her along with my family, but it's my knowledge that you might be more willing to help me considering she is your daughter and all." Klaus mocks making Damon pull up short.

"Alba is not my daughter, as you know, that's impossible." Damon lies taking a pull from his glass doing his best to look nonchalant. He can't have Klaus knowing Alba is his daughter; Klaus would be able to use her as leverage in any situation.

"Now Damon," Klaus tsks' moving around the foyer. "We both know that's a lie and your drink stinks of vervain so I can't compel the truth out of you." Klaus smiles in amusement when Damon's jaw clenches as he stops himself from saying something that will inevitably get him killed. "I find it rather poetic. Alba exceeds you in every single way." This makes Damon stiffen as he soaks up every word coming out of Klaus's mouth. "She's intelligent far beyond your capacity, she knows how to execute a plan successfully, she's powerful…oh, is she a powerful little thing." Klaus smirks when Damon's fist ball at his side as he tracks the hybrid with his eyes. "She has a fire in her I've never seen in you or any creature for that matter, she's not weak like you, she knows the value of family, and she is easy on the eyes." Klaus grins as Damon vamps out rushing at the Original, but Klaus is quick to grab Damon as he throws him against the wall. "Well it seems you people respond best to displays of violence." Klaus grits as he slams Damon's head against the wall one last time before dropping him unceremoniously to the floor. "Why don't you take this as another example of my reach?" Klaus says flipping open his phone and dialing a number. "There he is! So, that thing I told you to do...why don't you go ahead and get on with it?" Klaus smirks ending the call as he bends at the knees to get a better look at Damon. Damon only glares up at the hybrid through the searing pain in the back of his head.

"You're never going to find them." Damon winces as he tries to pull himself together. Klaus just smirks in triumph.

"Oh I will because if I don't find them, you don't find Alba."

The park is full of children as they run and play with one another. The one place I can take Danny that hasn't been touched by the destruction of the supernatural world. It's a sunny day, one of the first days of spring after the longest winter of my life. I hold her hand tightly in mine as I lead us to a bench away from the other parents.

"Alright Danny, I'll be right here when you're done okay?" I smile down at her as I take a seat on the bench. It's conveniently located under a large maple tree shielding us from the sun's rays. I watch her brown doe eyes light up with joy as she takes off for the swings, but she stops before she makes it even half way. "Danny?" I call out in confusion as she just stands there looking between me and the other kids. A look of pure agony that should never cross five-year olds face displayed for all to see. I watch her in mild fascination as she thinks hard before turning on her heel and running straight back to me. She doesn't waste time crawling up my lap and smashing herself to my chest. "Whoa, Danny, what's wrong?" I ask putting my arms around her as I try to look at her face, but she's hiding it from my view. "Hey," I say softly lifting her chin so she's looking at me. "What is wrong?"

"I didn't want to leave you alone. You looked so sad." She sniffles tears forming in her eyes. "I'm sorry for making you sad." She cries nuzzling my neck as she weeps.

"Hey now," I laugh grabbing her waist and gently pulling her away from me so I can see her. "You have not ever made me sad. I can promise you that." I smile wiping the tears dripping down her cheek. "If anything you going over to those swings right now and having fun will make me happy." This comment makes her confused as she stares down at her hands.

"So you wouldn't be sad if I left?" She asks new tears watering in her eyes. I just shake my head as I look at her in disbelief.

"Danny I would be devastated if you left me. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I lost you." I tell her my words never ringing more true. "But right now, I want you to go over there and play and make new friends. That would make me really happy." I grin when a smile starts to slowly turn up her lips.

"Are you sure?" She asks one last time as I gently set her down. I roll my eyes and lightly pat her butt.

"Get over there and make your big sister proud with how high you can swing." I laugh when she squeals and hugs me tightly to her little chest.

"I love you, Alba," She giggles before scurrying off to grab the last swing. I watch her run and have fun with the other kids. If she would look back at me right now, she would see how truly happy she makes me.

I don't gasp for breath as I come out of the memory this time. Each time Anya goes in I get a little bit weaker. Already the wounds on my face are taking longer to heal and from the satisfied look on the bitch's face she knows it.

"That was the moment you knew Danny would be your greatest weakness." She cackles making me lift my head in surprise.

"That smoker's laugh sounds strangely familiar," I say gaining a pissed off scowl from Anya, "you wouldn't happen to be the one from my dream, would you?" I smile remembering Greece and the nightmare. "I have to say you are so much less intimidating in person." I grin before she backhands me across the face. I rebound quickly tasting blood. "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood," I smile cheekily, but quickly frown when I get no response from her. "Never seen Dodge ball? Okay then."

"You think you are indestructible, don't you girl?" She sneers walking around me in slow circles. I shrug carelessly like I'm giving it thought.

"It has crossed my mind." I say noting her presence directly behind me.

"Well, let me tell you something, you abomination, you are not indestructible. As of right now you serve one purpose and one purpose only," she growls in my ear.

"I'm sorry abomination?" I ask in disbelief still stuck on the fact that I haven't ripped this bitch's heart out.

"You are a witch with a vampire father, a Salvatore father no less. Your mother should have killed you in utero, but no your mother was just as despicable as you." I lunge at her as she moves to stand in front of me. She smiles sadistically knowing she hit a nerve.

"Keep talking hag, it will only prolong your death." I growl starting to get frustrated by these restraints. Witches' magic has never worked on me before hence why Anya hasn't been doing magic on me, but it seems she may be having help from someone far more powerful.

"My death?" She snickers placing her hands on the arms so she can lean in close. "I wouldn't be worrying about me right now. It's you that won't be making it out of here alive."

"Hmm," I hum sinking further into my seat shocking her with how fast I can control my emotions. "And what purpose am I serving?" I ask deciding if I'm stuck here, I'm squeezing as much information out of her as I can.

"You are going to help me find a way to take out the Original vampires once and for all." She grins before shoving a switch blade into my shoulder. I don't even groan or flinch which infuriates Anya as she twists the blade drawing more blood. "And your blood is the key."

Damon and Elena approach the Witches' house each in their own thoughts. Elena just wants to find Stefan and convince him that what he's doing is causing more destruction than anything. Damon can't help the flashbacks he receives looking over the ruins of the decrepit house that barely stands in front of him.

"I thought Bonnie said this place lost all its mojo?" Damon asks looking over the house with caution. He knows first-hand what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a witches' anger.

"The dead witches were angry at her for bringing Jeremy back to life. I guess now they have something they want her to know." Elena shrugs walking up the porch steps.

"I hate witches. So fickle…passive aggressive," Damon rewords after a look from Elena. The two enter the house both looking around for signs of Stefan.

"Stefan?" Elena yells side stepping a piece of broken furniture.

"Come on, Stef! Olly Olly Ox and free." He smirks walking into the sunlight only to start to burn. "Ahhh!" Damon yells rushing to a shadowed corner. "Really! Still!"

"What?" Elena asks annoyed. She doesn't have time for Damon's antics.

"Witchy spirits aren't a big fan. And they use their juju to screw with my daylight ring!" Damon whines not expecting Elena's reaction to be so passive.

"Then wait outside."

"Elena!" Damon howls watching her walk further into the house.

"I'm not leaving until I know if he's here." She tells him stubbornly disappearing around a corner. Damon doesn't waste time flying out the door and away from the house. Damon waits impatiently as he listens to the argument going on inside. What he wouldn't give to be in there right now. He has some business to attend to with his little brother. It doesn't take long for Elena to come barreling down the porch steps.

"That didn't go over well." Damon quips earning a dangerous look from the doppelgänger.

"Don't even start, Damon." She huffs running a hand through her hair.

"Let me talk to him." Damon goads.

"You can't get in! The witches won't let you!" She yells her frustration getting the best of her.

"Here," Damon says taking Elena's hand and placing his car keys in her palm. "Take my car keys. Go deal with your brother and let me deal with mine." He gives her a small smile before rushing into the house running from shadowy spot to shadowy spot before he gets to the basement. He finds Stefan sitting casually in one of the chairs.

"Wow! That was impressive." Stefan mocks, "But the coffins aren't here, so... You can go away now." He flicks his hand in a dismissive manner angering Damon more.

"I don't care about the coffins. We need to talk." Damon says walking around the room taking everything in.

"Ok, let's talk." Stefan smirks giving Damon pause.

"Nothing is ever easy with you, is it?" Damon groans before rushing Stefan and dragging him outside. He makes quick work of kicking Stefan in the stomach before snapping off a tree limb and stabbing him in the gut. "That is for screwing up my plan! You stop me from killing Klaus and you steal his family! Why? Doesn't make sense! Answer me!" Damon yells when Stefan refuses to answer as he drives the stake farther in his stomach.

"Piece by piece Klaus took everything from me. I'm doing the same to him." Stefan grits out around the pain.

"But I had him Stefan! Why did you screw it up!" Damon yells out finally getting his frustrations out.

"I did it to save you!" Stefan yells kicking Damon off of him.

"What!" Damon hollers as he hits the ground. "No. No way. You didn't do this for me." Damon tries to convince himself as he sits up in time to watch Stefan pull the branch out of his stomach.

"He was one step ahead of us. If Klaus died, his hybrids would have killed you." Stefan tells him making Damon shake his head.

"I want you to get it through your head." Damon says slamming the stake into his stomach once again making Stefan double over in pain. "Stop saving me!" Damon paces back and forth thinking things over as he continues to talk. "Do you know what I can´t figure out? Why save me? Was it brotherly love, guilty conscience? Is the switch on, is the switch off?"

"You have somewhere you need to be Damon?" Stefan asks watching Damon pace as he rips the stake out of his spleen.

"Reflection. That's not going to work on me. I invented that!" Damon counters looking at Stefan in disbelief.

"We're done. Can't you just go away?" Stefan asks exasperated with his brother's antics. He would much rather be figuring out ways to kill Klaus, speaking of that, he has to go check on Alba.

"Not until you tell me why you saved me. You owe me that."

"I don't owe you anything." Stefan bites coming to a stand and brushing his jeans off.

"Fine. Next question. Where is Alba?" Damon questions coming to a standstill as he glares down Stefan.

"Why do you care where Alba is? Last time I checked she meant nothing to you." Stefan smirks though his eyes betray him as he examines his brother.

"She has no part in this Stefan. Let her go." Damon snarls advancing towards Stefan once again.

"Oh but she does. She has a hold on Klaus giving us a leg up. Even if Klaus gets those coffins back they will still have Alba. Either way Klaus will lose." Stefan says shoving his hands in his pockets.

"They? Who has Alba, Stefan?" Damon asks his gut twisting at what Stefan did.

"The witches Damon, I gave Alba to the witches." Damon draws his eyebrows together in anger as he paces again.

"You what?" He growls flashing to tower over his little brother.

"They know what Alba is and they think they can find a way to kill Klaus with her. She will be fine Damon." Stefan answers not easing the bad feeling in Damon's gut. "Now I think we have more pressing matters to attend to."

I look around the doctor's office in distaste. I've never liked coming here even as a little kid. The smell always got to me, but none so much as the people I would see. Like right now, I'm watching an elderly couple cling tightly to each other as the woman whispers softly to her husband. The man looks tense as they wait to be called back, but I notice even with the scarf wrapped around the woman's head she still looks beautiful.

"Alba, why are we here?" Danny asks softly as she kicks her feet back and forth in the chair. I look down at her little face wondering how in eight years things could change so much. Danny looks the picture of innocence in her navy blue dress with matching shoes. She's nothing like the other kids I've noticed. She has this way about her that most can see when they speak to her. She's wise beyond her years and even at the ripe age of eight she holds more knowledge than even I can possess.

"The doctor said he had some news for us. We are here for your check-up." I explain to her as she wraps her hand in mine.

"But I had a check-up last week." She points out making me laugh nervously as I remember the lump the doctor found behind Alba's neck.

"I know, but this is a checkup to the checkup to make sure the first doctor didn't miss anything." I give her hand a reassuring squeeze as I calm my erratic heartbeat. We sit in silence for a long moment before Danny turns to me.

"Hey Alba?"

"Yeah?" I say glancing down at her calm face. She's staring off into the distance her mind somewhere else.

"I will never leave you. I promise." She says making me draw back in shock. Why would she say that?

"Ms. Martinez?" I draw my attention to the nurse that is calling my name. "It is your turn to see the doctor." I nod my head as I help Danny down from the chair.

"If you would like we can watch your little one dear?" I look to the elderly couple I had been watching earlier. The woman is smiling kindly at Danny as she turns to me. "It wouldn't be any trouble." I bite my lip as I look down at Danny who is watching the woman curiously.

"What do you think Danny?" I ask because Danny even at her young age is the best judge of character. I wait patiently as she looks over the woman before giving her a toothless grin.

"My name's Danny." She says giving me a quick hug before walking over to the couple. I watch as Danny doesn't hesitate to sit on the woman's lap as the man gasps softly.

"Oh, stop it Richard. She isn't hurting me." The woman waves the man off as she places an arm around Danny to keep her from falling. "The names Amelia dear, but you can call me whatever you like." I watch Danny think as I start my trek to Doctor Sullivan's office. She looks very content with this stranger like she has known her forever.

"I think I'll call you MiMi," Danny and Amelia's laughs are the last thing I hear before the doors close behind me.

The doctor is a man in his early thirties with light wrinkles around his mouth and sorrowful eyes.

"Hello Ms. Martinez," He shakes my hand as I smile emotionless.

"Call me Alba please." I tell him as he nods motioning to the chair behind me.

"Please have a seat." I take it as I cut straight to the chase.

"Listen I don't want any beating around the bush. I just want answers. What did you find?" I ask watching the doctor quickly cover his surprise with a frown.

"Well I think I should tell you there are many options Alba and-"I cut him off with a shake of my head.

"Just tell me." I demand knowing by the sigh that escapes his lips my world is about to crash around me.

"I'm sorry, but Danny has Acute lymphoblastic leukemia."

"Now this was the moment you realized there is no such thing as a happy ending." Anya taunts as she sits in her happy corner. The bitch has been making me watch her knit for the last hour before she yanked that memory from my head. I lean my head back as I try to come out of the fog still clouding my mind.

"Tell me something, why go through my memories? You have everything you want right here? Why pillage through my head?" I ask bitterly watching her with blind hatred. My wounds are barely healing which means I'm losing blood every second.

"Why not? You know all my life I've only ever heard about some miracle baby that would change the fate of the world as we know it. Imagine my disappointment when I find you; a witch with vampire blood pumping through her veins." She spits on the ground showing her disgust towards me.

"Aren't you like a hundred?" I ask which earns me a slap across the face. How she got across the room without me seeing her is beyond me.

"I don't think you understand the situation you're in my dear." She grabs my face holding it roughly between her hands. "I have you exactly where I want you. And until the other's begin to arrive, you are mine to enjoy." She laughs before snapping my arm effectively breaking my bone. This time I can't hold in my blood curdling scream as pain rushes through me.

Stefan and Bonnie stand in the basement of the Witches house looking over the coffins. Bonnie crosses the room to the coffin sitting above all the rest.

"This is the one I dreamt about." She says running her hands over the smooth wood before attempting to lift the lid.

"Don't bother. It won't open." Stefan tells her as he watches leaning against one of the walls.

"What do you mean? Is it locked?" Bonnie asks inspecting the coffin looking for a lever or something that might be the key to opening it.

"Nope. Just won't open. I've tried everything. Blow torches. Crowbar. Can't even scratch the finish." Stefan muses coming to stand next to the Bennett witch.

"I think it's closed with a spell." Bonnie mutters thinking to herself.

"Meaning whatever is in there should probably stay in there." Stefan eyes the coffin with a newfound uncertainty.

"You said you wanted to make him suffer. The witches led me here for a reason. I think whatever is inside this coffin is our answer." Bonnie narrows her eyes as she thinks about all the ways to take down Klaus. But another thought occurs to her as well. "Where did you put Alba?" Bonnie asks having found out earlier that Stefan did take her.

"Hmm did Damon spill the beans?" Stefan asks walking around the room.

"No, Danny did when she showed up on my doorstep with tears running down her face." This doesn't even make Stefan flinch; he doesn't care what happens to them. "Luckily she's a calm kid. She's back at my house with Caroline. So, where is she?" Bonnie asks once again.

"Does it really matter? I think we have bigger things to deal with." Stefan tries to distract Bonnie but she's a stubborn one. She crosses her arms and just gives him a look. "Fine. I gave her to some witches that said they knew of a way to use Alba against Klaus."

"What do you mean? What witches?" Bonnie asks not liking the sound of that at all.

"Let me show you." Bonnie let's Stefan lead her away from the house into the forest. She doesn't know how long they walk or where exactly they are going, but she knows something doesn't feel right. The sun is setting over the mountains by the time her patience wears thin.

"Stefan, where is she?" She barks not liking this at all.

"Will you relax; we are here." He says moving out of the way so Bonnie can see the small shed that is now in front of them.

"I haven't been here all day so this should be interesting. Shall we?" Stefan taunts motioning for Bonnie to go first. She watches him cautiously but goes ahead. The shed is small and dank with mildew crawling up the walls. She doesn't bother knocking as she barrels in only to find the place empty.

"Seriously Stefan?" She hisses turning around to face him. He rolls his eyes and walks pass her to the opposite wall. He bangs on it three times before turning to her.

"Happy?" He asks as the wall swings open revealing a hidden room and a very pissed off witch.

"What do you want?" She snaps looking at Stefan with hatred. "We had a deal."

"I know that, but part of the deal was me checking in on you." He answers dangerously not the least bit afraid. "What have you found?"

"Why don't you come see for yourself?" The woman smiles eerily as Bonnie sends Stefan a what the hell look. Neither him nor the woman acknowledge her as she follows them through the door. What she finds on the other side has her gasping in horror.

"Alba!" Bonnie yells running to the girl's aid but Stefan is quick to yank her back. "Stefan get off of me!" She hisses using her magic to zap him, but even that doesn't loosen his hold.

"Bonnie," Stefan warns low so the witch can't here. "Stay still." Something in his voice has Bonnie obeying him as she looks to the bloody and bruised Alba. Blood soaks through the rags covering her body and she can see the wounds covering her skin. Bonnie glances to the table in the corner where she finds the knives and other various torture tools covered in blood. Bile rises in the witch's throat as she thinks about what has been done. "What is this?" Stefan asks emotionless as he stares at Alba. Not a flicker of emotion crosses his face.

"You told me to find answers and this is the only way." The older witch responds making Bonnie want to lash out and fry her ass. "If you want to find a way to kill Klaus for good sometimes you have to break a few eggs." The woman cackles making goosebumps appear on Bonnie's flesh. Bonnie glares at the woman wanting nothing more than to set her on fire, but when Stefan finally speaks up she wants to kill him more.

"Do what you have to. I'll be back in a few days to see how far you've come."

"STEFAN!" Bonnie screams lashing out only to have him tighten his hold cutting off her oxygen.

"Give us a minute." Stefan orders the witch as she nods and sends Bonnie a rueful smirk. Once she's out of the room Stefan releases Bonnie.

"Stefan are you crazy!? We are not leaving her here! Look at her Stefan!" Bonnie yells pointing to the passed out Alba who is barely breathing.

"Bonnie, listen to me. We have a real shot here to take down Klaus. We cannot give that up! He killed Jenna, he killed Elena, and he killed you! He turned Tyler into a hybrid and has ruined everyone's lives! So, yes, we are leaving her here because if she holds answers to Klaus's demise then we need her!" Stefan finishes making Bonnie look uncertainly to Alba.

"It's still not right Stefan." Bonnie stands her ground even though her confidence is waning.

"What is one compared to a thousand?" Stefan asks finally breaking Bonnie. "When it's all said and done we will come back and get her." They stand in silence for a long moment before Bonnie shakes her head.

"Let's just get out of here." She hisses walking towards the door with Stefan hot on her heels. But something stops them.

"Steffy?" They both stop as Bonnie turns around to look at Alba over Stefan's shoulder. She's dazed as she stares at Stefan's back and she looks bad really bad.

"Go Bonnie." Stefan says no emotion in his words or on his face. He pushes forward as she obeys ignoring the golf ball size lump in her throat and the ache in her chest. What the hell did she just do?

I watch as Stefan and Bonnie exit the room. The small amount of hope I had at being rescued gone when they disappear. They didn't even spare me a glance before they left. I should have known better though. However, I can't take my eyes off the door not even when Anya comes to stand behind me. I listen as she whispers in my ear and I know what she is saying is true.

"And this is the moment you realize that no matter what you do or who you save, no one will ever care enough to save you."
