My Little Pony: Card Games Against Chaos
Chapter 2: Gone With the Wind
Pinkie: Too bad I had to lose.
Brony: It's okay Pinkie; I'm sure things will get better. Spike, give the disclaimer.
Spike: You're not my boss.
Brony: Do you want to buy those white roses for Rarity?
Spike: Yeah.
Brony: Then you'll do your job just like Twilight so you can be paid.
Spike: I hate you so much, Brony Boy does not own My Little Pony or Yu-Gi-Oh!
Brony: Oh, also, for whoever commented as red ranger22 in my last chapter, I'm sorry but I'm keeping Twilight a unicorn because this is taking place before they actually knew each other, sorry for the inconvenience.
Twilight was trotting around, looking for her next opponent when she felt a sudden weight on her back.
"Hey, Twilight, how's the mission going?" a familiar voice asked.
Twilight smiled, remembering her friend/assistant that she had brought with her from Canterlot. "Hello, Spike, nothing suspicious to report. How have you been?"
"Oh, I entered the tournament, I thought it would be fun! I already won my first duel and I'm looking for my next win," said a slightly chubby purple dragon with green spines on his head and down his back.
"You joined too? I didn't know you even had a deck."
Spike smiled and held up the his deck of cards, flipping the top to show a super powerful dragon type monster. "I do have a life outside of being your assistant. Plus, it's a little more odd that you would join, you aren't really the type to go looking for fun."
"Let's just say I met a pony that could make even me laugh."
Spike, unseen by Twilight, smiled at the thought that the purple unicorn being able to make a friend. "Well, let's both try to make it to the finals. Then I'll show you just how good of a duelist I am."
"You're on."
Before Spike could hop off of Twilight a voice blasted over the intercom system. "Attention, duelists, in order to make it into the tournament's final round, you must win your second duel within the next twenty minutes. Anypony who is unable to come to me to sign up for the next round is automatically disqualified."
"We better hurry, a lot of the duelists will already be knocked out or ready for the next round," Twilight said.
"Right, good luck, Twilight." Spike hopped off and started hurrying to find somepony to duel.
Twilight turned around and started trotting the other way, determined to only duel Spike if she was forced to. She looked around for anypony that seemed to be in a hurry, knowing that somepony would be stressed by the short amount of time left.
A giant pain then hit Twilight in the side, knocking her head first into the wall. For a few seconds, all she could see was black. When she finally came to, a cyan colored pegasus with rainbow colored mane and tail was standing over top of her.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry," she kept saying over and over again. "I was busy trying to look for a friend, and-"
"And in a reckless attempt to find him or her, you weren't paying attention to where you were going," Twilight snapped.
The rainbow colored pony changed personalities completely. "Hey, I said I was sorry! I just wanted to find my friend, Pinkie Pie," Twilight's eyes opened wide at the sound of the name. "You don't need to be so mean by pointing that out!"
"Y-you're friends with Pinkie Pie?" Twilight asked.
The rainbow maned pony looked confused at the question. "Well, yeah. I felt bad that I got to enter the tournament when she couldn't. So, when I heard that she found somepony she could duel, but lost right away, I wanted to see how she was doing," she explained. "I never leave my friends alone to be sad."
"I hate to say this, but... I'm the pony she dueled and lost to," Twilight admitted.
"What?! It was her dream to someday win this tournament, and you ruined it! I challenge you to a duel! I'll avenge Pinkie's lost!"
Twilight tried to interrupt, "But-"
"Plus, with my single win so far, this will get me into the main tournament."
Twilight decided to just give up on arguing with the mare and accepted the duel. "Mind letting me know your name before we duel? It's only the polite thing, since you challenged me."
"The name's Rainbow Dash, and you?"
"I'm Twilight Sparkle, faithful student to Princess Celestia and the girl that's about to knock you out of this tournament." The two pulled out their dueling mats, sat them down apart from each other and drew their hands.
"Duel!" they both cried.
(Twilight Sparkle Lp: 8000 Hand: 6 Deck: 34)
(Rainbow Dash Lp: 8000 Hand: 5 Deck: 35)
"I draw!" Twilight cried. She looked at her hand for the best possible strategy before seeing a familiar blue and green monster with large, muscular arms.
"I play one monster face down defense mode!" a brown card appeared in her monster zone sideways. "Then I'll end my turn with a face down!" this time a brown card appeared closer to Twilight, an area representing her spell and trap card zone.
(Twilight Sparkle Lp: 8000 Hand: 4 Deck: 34)
(Rainbow Dash Lp: 8000 Hand: 6 Deck: 34)
"That's all? I expected more," Rainbow Dash said, drawing a new card. "I should've known you beating Pinkie was just a fluke."
"Just so you know, I'm the best duelist in my class," Twilight bragged.
"You're the only student in your class, Twilight!" Spikes voice boomed from across the room.
A vein popped in Twilight's head at the Spike's statement. "Thanks a lot, Spike!" she called back. "Excuse me for wanting to make myself sound tougher!"
Rainbow Dash began giggling at the conversation Twilight was having. "Are you good, or do we need to stop for a little bit?"
Twilight turned back to the pegasus, "Sorry, about that. Please, continue with your move."
Rainbow Dash nodded and played a spell card, which then appeared in front of her, onto her mat. "I activate Hysteric Sign, which let's me add one Elegant Egotist from my deck or graveyard to my hand. Then, I'll summon Harpie Lady 1 in attack mode!" On her field appeared a girl with long, red hair. She wore a black bodysuit and instead of hands or feet she had hawk talons. In the middle of her arms spread out green feathered wings. (Harpie Lady 1 atk: 1300-1600 def: 1400 lvl: 4)
"Why did her attack just go up?" Twilight asked.
Rainbow Dash explained, "When Harpie Lady 1 is on the field, the attack of all wind attributed monsters goes up by 300. And next, I'll activate my Elegant Egotist which let's me special summon one Harpie Lady Sisters from my deck!"
From behind Rainbow Dash flew three monsters similar to the Harpie that was already on her field. One was an exact copy, except that it had a gold bodysuit instead of a black one. The other two wore gold bodysuits as well, but one had spiky blue hair and the other had short orange hair. (Harpie Lady Sisters atk: 1950-2250 def: 2100 lvl: 6)
The four bird girls on Dash's side of the field began to, what appeared to be, gossip. They giggled as they spread their news to each other in a language no pony there could understand.
"No, no, no!" Rainbow Dash cried. "Why is it that you always have to act like teenage girls when you're on the field together?!"
Twilight felt a little spark grow within her for a moment. This girl that she was competing with was just like her in some ways; they both could sense monster spirits, even if that meant losing control of their monsters occasionally.
"Try offering to dust off their cards afterwards," the purple unicorn suggested, to the pegasus's confusion. The statement, however, gained the attention of the monsters.
"What?"
"They're winged-beast monsters;" Twilight explained further, "plus one of the most famous spells that go with them is a feather duster. I'm sure they would appreciate it."
The harpies began to nod their heads in agreement. Twilight seemed to be right, as usual.
Rainbow Dash looked up at her monsters, who looked back with a great eagerness. "If I promise to do this, will you promise to behave?" The monsters nodded. "Will you make sure everyone one else knows this?" They nodded again. "Then we have a deal."
Suddenly another spell appeared in front of Rainbow Dash, another Elegant Egotist.
"You had another one?!" Twilight exclaimed. "You didn't even need to use Hysteric Sign so early."
A cheerful voice sounded next to Twilight. "That's just how Dashie is! She loves making it seem like she needs help getting certain cards that she already has!" Twilight turned, shocked to see a familiar pink mare next to her.
"P-Pinkie! You scared me!"
"Oops, sorry. I'll go sit and watch." She turned and sat a few feet away, holding two signs next to her, one saying 'Go Twilight!' in bright purple and the other 'Go Dashie!' with a rainbow of colors.
Twilight turned to see Rainbow Dash on the ground laughing at the situation. She thought, "This is the most ridiculous and random duel I have ever had, even for Pinkie."
"Okay, okay," Dash said when she was finally done laughing. "With this spell, I choose to summon another Harpie, only this time made with metal." Electricity crackled in the air as a figure began to form in the middle of a white light. "I summon my Cyber Harpie Lady!"
The figure burst out to show a harpie larger than the others with a bodysuit made of shining steel. This one still had flowing red hair like the first, but each strand carried a shine that was uncomparable to the others. (Cyber Harpie atk: 1800-2100 def: 1300 lvl: 4)
The harpies looked at each other, coming to a silent agreement. They looked to their master for orders to follow. "Well," Rainbow smiled, "since you girls seem ready for what's next, Harpie Lady 1 attack her face down monster!"
Said harpie flew high into the air before sky bombing down and doing a summersault just before land down hard on the brown square at Twilight's hooves. The card flipped to reveal a large blue and green monster with overly large arms and legs attached to its round body. It let loose a terrible growl before taking a defensive stance. (Gogogo Golem atk: 1800 def: 1500 lvl: 4)
"Um… hello, I'm waiting for the boom here," Dash said stubbornly. "What gives? My monster's stronger, so why is yours still around?"
"A little something known as a special ability, Rainbow Dash," Twilight mocked. "When Gogogo Golem is in defense mode he can keep from being destroyed in battle once per turn."
The Cyber Harpie suddenly took flight and scraped through the golem like it was warm butter. "Well, then it's a good thing I have two more attacks."
Finally the three Harpie Sister flew high together before putting their backs together in a mini circle. They came spiralling down with the force of a drill. The force knocked Twilight onto her back and was starting to turn her front into a darker shade of purple.
"Ow~" Twilight grunted.
(Twilight Sparkle lp: 8000-5750 hand: 4 deck: 34)
(Rainbow Dash lp: 8000 hand: 3 deck: 31)
Rainbow Dash started freaking out. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I am so sorry! I didn't mean to go that far with that!"
"I-it's fine. Just keep going, we don't have much time left."
There was no way of telling how long it had been, but at least a fourth of the time had to of gone by so far. Twilight needed to win this quickly.
(Twilight Sparkle lp: 5750 hand: 5 deck: 33)
(Rainbow Dash lp: 8000 hand: 3 deck: 31)
Twilight looked at her hands for anything that she could use to help herself out of her jam. Then she saw a combo that might just work.
"First, I activate my trap card, Curse of Aging!" the face down card on her field flipped to show an elderly man in middle eastern clothes. The man was opening a small treasure chest that had white spirits flying out of it. "This card let's me send one card from my hand to the graveyard so that all your monsters lose 500 attack points!"
Multiple white ghosts blew from the card before merging with the harpies and forcing them to make a hasty landing. (Harpie Sisters atk: 2250-1750 def: 2100 lvl: 6)(Cyber Harpie atk: 2100-1600 def: 1300 lvl: 4)(Harpie Lady 1 atk: 1600-1100 def: 1400 lvl: 4)
"Next, I'll summon Gogogo Giant!" I large, thin monster with a similar color pattern as the previous golem sharing its name popped onto the field, only to reach a hand into the ground and pull up a second monster. This creature had armor with, once again, the same color pattern, but on the inside was a light blue mist. "When Gogogo Giant is summoned, it can bring one Gogogo monster back from the graveyard, so I decided to bring back the Gogogo Ghost I sent to the graveyard with my trap." (Gogogo Giant atk: 2000 def: 0 lvl: 4) (Gogogo Ghost atk: 1900 def: 0 lvl: 4) As if on cue, the ghost began to leak some of the blue mist inside it's armor. "That's not all though, when Gogogo Ghost is special summoned it can bring my Golem back with it."
From the blue mist walked out the Gogogo Golem that Dash had destroyed earlier.
Twilight then held up a card in her hoof, an almost grim look on her face. "I normally don't use this card; his spirit is too aggressive for my tastes, and he tends to pick fights with whoever he can. We are short on time, however, and it is in my hopes that he will help me obtain victor-"
Dash interrupted, "Blah, blah, blah. Get on with it, like you said, we're short on time!"
The Golem and Giant on Twilight's side of the field turned into bright orange lights while the Ghost turned into a purple one. The three beams of light flew into the sky, twisting around each other before flying into the dark hole used for xyz summoning. Twilight called out, "I overlay my three monsters to xyz summon, Gagagigo the Risen!"
From the hole appeared a giant teal monster with white armor around its calves, shoulders, upper arms, and head. On its chest and lower arms were strange red marks. Around it flew its three overlay units. (Gagagigo atk: 2950 def: 2800 rnk: 4 ovrly: 3)
The monster, without consent from its own, threw each of its fists at two of the Harpie Sister, reducing them to dust. It then began walking towards the third sister, backing her into a corner. She tried begging for mercy, but he only lifted his foot and stomped down on her.
(Twilight lp: 5750 hand: 3 deck: 33)
(Rainbow lp: 8000-6800 hand: 3 deck: 31)
"I guess we're even from earlier," Dash grinned. "You really weren't kidding about him picking fights, he immediately went for my strongest monster. I'm going to avenge them though. I draw!"
(Twilight lp: 5750 hand: 3 deck: 33)
(Rainbow lp: 6800 hand: 4 deck: 30)
"I summon the harpies' faithful servant, Birdface!" A giant gold eagle with blue armor covering its chest dropped down from above. (Birdface atk: 1600 def: 1600 lvl: 4) The two harpies (and bird) then turned to three blazing, green lights, flying into their own black hole in the floor.
Dash began to laugh, "You think you're the only one that can xyz summon? Think again! I xyz summon Harpies Pet Phantasmal Dragon!"
From the hole flew out a red mist that resembled the blue mist inside Gogogo Ghost. The mist began to float together, forming a giant dragon with a wingspan that covered the entire length of the hologram field. Protruding from each of the gaseous legs and arms were claws at least a foot long. (Phantasmal Dragon atk: 2000 def: 2500 rnk: 4 ovrly: 3)
"Now for the fun part, my dragon will attack!"
The phantom dragon struck forward at Gagagigo. Twilight was about to break out laughing at her opponent's mistake when the dragon broke apart and, instead making contact with Gagagigo, flew in for the direct attack on Twilight.
(Twilight lp: 5750-3750 hand: 3 deck: 33)
(Rainbow lp: 6800 hand: 3 deck: 30)
Dash was the one to break out in laughter, not Twilight. "My dragon's effect allows it to attack you directly as long as he has overlay units! The only backfire is during the end of my turn, I must discard an overlay unit during each of my end phases. So, I guess I'll end with a face down."
(Phantasmal Dragon atk: 2000 def: 2500 rnk: 4 ovrly: 2)
(Twilight lp: 3750 hand: 4 deck: 32)
(Rainbow lp: 6800 hand: 2 deck: 30)
Twilight thought to herself, 'That monster is weaker than my own, I should easily be able to take it out. My only problem here is that face down of hers. If it's a trap, then there's a chance that it could defeat me upon my attack.' She glanced at her hand for a second. 'Not only that, but I have no card in my hand that can help me. I'm just going to have to hope that I draw it next turn.'
"I end my turn, Dash. It's your move."
(Twilight lp: 3750 hand: 4 deck: 32)
(Rainbow lp: 6800 hand: 3 deck: 29)
"No fighting back?" Dash asked sarcastically, "Lame! Phantasmal Dragon, attack her directly again!"
Just like before, the dragon dissolved into the mist that made it up. This time it reformed to slash at her with one of its talon-covered hands.
(Twilight lp: 3750-1750 hand: 4 deck: 32)
(Rainbow lp: 6800 hand: 3 deck: 29)
Once again, a voice boomed over the intercom. "Attention, duelists, the registration for the final rounds will end in five minutes. Please, hurry to the center stage if qualified to enter."
The two duelists looked at each other, Twilight in fear, but Dash with eagerness. The scored showed that Dash had the better chance of winning the duel and making it to the stage before time ran out.
Inside her head, Twilight was screaming at herself, 'I only have one chance. There is one way that I can win this on my next move, but I need two specific cards to do it. Everything else I need is right here. I need to trust my deck to give me what I need, somehow."
Twilight closed her eyes to focus all her willpower into her deck. She drew her next card and brought it to her face before she finally opened her eyes.
(Twilight lp: 1750 hand: 5 deck: 31)
(Rainbow lp: 6800 hand: 3 deck: 29)
"I activate my spell card, Cup of Ace!" A golden chalice popped into the center of the field.
Pinkie could be heard from the sidelines screaming, "Oh my Celestia! She's using the card I gave her! She's using the card I gave her!"
A gold coin flipped on the inside of the cup before falling out and landing sun-side up. Twilight grew her two cards and went wide-eyed in shock.
"Perfect," she whispered to herself. "I activate the spell card, Mystical Space Typhoon! This card allows me to destroy one spell or trap card on your side of the field!"
A blustering wind suddenly filled the air, pulling Dash's face down upwards until it burst into dust. She cried out, "Not my Mirror Force! That's usually my ace in the hole!"
With no trap card on Dash's side of the field, Twilight had no reason to hesitate in attacking except that she needed to end the duel right away.
"I'll now boost my Gagagigo's attack points by giving him the Blustering Winds spell which raises his attack and defense points by 1,000 until my next turn!"
Another breeze filled the air, but this one surrounded Gagagigo, swirling around his body. (Gagagigo atk: 2950-3950 def: 2800-3800 rnk: 4 ovrly: 3)
Rainbow Dash tried to bargain with Twilight, "That may be impressive, but just destroying my monster won't let you win. My life points are too high, we'll run out of time and both lose. Just end your turn and let me win."
"That logic would make sense, Dash," Twilight began to smile, "That is, if I was done. I now give my Gagagigo the Megamorph equip-spell, doubling his attack points!" (Gagagigo atk: 3800-7600 def: 3800 rnk: 4 ovrly: 3)
"It's still not enough!" Dash screamed, scared at the power that lie in front of her. "Do you want to get us both disqualified!?"
"Dash, Dash, Dash, when will you understand? I'm still not done. Well, I'm done powering him up, but not done with my move," Twilight mocked. "I activate Xyz Energy, letting me discard one of Gagagigo's useless overlay units to destroy one monster you control!"
One of the white orbs, representing Gagagigo's overlay units, shot at the Phantasmal turning it into dust instead of the red mist that made its body.
"Oh no!"
"Now you're getting it," Twilight smirked. "Gagagigo, attack Rainbow Dash directly!"
The lizard stomped over to the pegasus. He raised his foot, ready to stomp down on her. When Twilight yelled for him to stop. When he turned to see what she wanted, Twilight's face showed the anger of a thousand timber wolves. Gagagigo got the message and barely tapped Dash for his attack.
(Twilight lp: 1750 hand: 2 deck: 29) WIN
(Rainbow lp: 0 hand: 3 deck: 29) LOSE
Gagagigo vanished, what appeared to be a smile was spread across his face.
"Good game, Dash," Twilight congratulated. "You were a very tough opponent."
"Hey, don't just sit there! Get going! I think there's just one minute left!" Dash screamed when she saw that Twilight hadn't moved since she won.
Twilight realized what she meant and began to gallop full speed towards the stage. "You're right, I've got to get going!"
But Dash called out, as Twilight ran away, "Thanks for the comliment though!"
Pinkie walked over towards the pegasus with a grin across her face. "So, no revenge for me?"
"Oh, Pinkie, if I had known from the start that you two became friends, I probably wouldn't have done that in the first place. I have to admit that I like her too, though."
"I thought you might."
"Oh Pinkie, why must you have such good tastes in friends?"
"Because how else are you supposed to find any, Dashie? You aren't exactly the best at first impressions."
"I resent that."
Music began to play over the intercom. "Ooh, looks like their about to announce the finalists!"
The two made their way to the front of the crowd. On stage stood eight ponies and one… what Rainbow Dash and Pinkie assumed was a giant, purple lizard.
One was a mare wearing glasses. Her mane was grey and her coat was a light brown. This one stood behind a podium, the host of the tournament.
"Fillies and gentlecolts," she spoke out, "I am proud to introduce our eight quarter finalists!"
Every pony in the room cheered out, all of them except Twilight. She was more confused on how it could be the quarter finals when there were eight contestants left. She looked to her left, hoping Spike would be confused too; she did teach him well after all. Nope, Spike was too busy waving to every mare he could find. Twilight rolled her eyes, sometimes she wished he would just find one girl to swoon over.
"Now, this year," the mare behind the pedestal continued, "the rules have changed a little. Since last year's competition took so long, this year the finals will be a tag team matchup!" At this the cheers grew louder. Even the few girls Spike could get the attention lost their interest in him to cheer, to his discontent. "That's right, this year we will have the competitors choose a partner to compete with until the finals. The two will then duel each other to see who will be our champion! How will the others choose their partner? Will they find somepony they could work well together with? Or will they choose somepony they think is weaker to carry the weight, thereby having an easier win in the end? Let's find out! I'll announce the competitors once everypony has picked a partner."
Twilight already knew who she was going to team up with, the one she had agreed to go to the finals with. She began walking in Spike's direction when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
She turned around to find a grey mare with blonde mane. Her eyes were amber and her cutie mark was a group of bubble. The strangest thing about her, though, was that one of her eyes pointed upwards for no reason.
"Um… excuse me," she said, "would you like to be my tag team partner? My friends tell me I'm really good and-"
Twilight interrupted, "Sorry, I was really hoping to be partners with this friend of mine, if that's okay. We made this pact to go to the finals together, so…"
"Oh, I understand. Good luck with your matches."
"Thanks, you too." Twilight looked around to see a white mare hustling from group to group. "I think she might need a partner, though."
"Thanks!" The girl then began flying towards the white mare.
Twilight continued on her way to Spike, who was just standing with his arms crossed and a smile on his face. "Took you long enough," he joked
"Sorry, had to stop to talk."
"You ready to do this?" he asked, his hand held out in a fist.
"You bet," she held her hoof, bumping it into his in an epic brohoof.
After a minute or two the mayor returned to the podium. "It appears that we have our four teams!" she boomed. Everypony in the crowd began to cheer again. "First off, we have a unicorn and her assistant from Canterlot! Introducing Twilight Sparkle and Spike!"
The two stepped forward and gave short bows.
"Next off are Ponyville's key apple supplier (and hardest worker) along with an animal caretaker. Here's Applejack and Fluttershy!"
Forward came an orange earth pony with deep yellow mane and three apples for a cutie mark, on her head was a brown cowgirl hat. Her partner, however, was crouched behind her with her hooves over eyes. From what Twilight could tell, she was a yellow pegasus with a long, pink mane and three butterflies for a cutie mark.
"Our third team are the sister spa owners Lotus and Aloe!"
Forward came twin earth ponies with reversed colors. While one had a pink mane with blue body, the other had a pink body with blue mane. They both shared the same lotus flower pattern for cutie marks.
"And finally," the crowd grew quiet with anticipation, "here we have an unexpected duo to compete: the owner of the Carousel Boutique and one of the mail ponies of Ponyville. I am proud to introduce Miss Rarity and Derpy Hooves!"
Twilight watched as the grey mare she had met earlier stepped forward, a huge grin on her face. Beside her was the white mare Twilight had pointed out, though she was wearing a frown. Her mane and tail were purple and curled. Her cutie mark was three purple gems.
"Now, let's get started!"
