Chapter 19

"Seduce my mind and you can have my body,

Find my soul and I'm yours forever." –Anon

Things happen for a reason. I've always known this; hell my life has been a series of chain reactions that don't always lead to greener pastures. Most call it fate; some call it destiny, but me? I don't care because at the end of the day it's still my life whether some unseen force plays a hand in it or not. It's still me making sacrifices, throwing myself into dangerous situations, and saving the one person that means the world to me. So as I lay here watching the sun filtering in through the open window casting shadows on Klaus's bare back; I can honestly say consequences be damned. I wouldn't trade last night for anything.

A small smile crosses my lips as I run a light hand down Klaus's spine. I've never seen the original hybrid look so serene; almost like a little boy. His blond hair is a mess probably resembling my own as it sticks up in odd places. A sheet covers him from the waist down as he lays sprawled on his stomach. I commit this moment to memory as I run my knuckles softly over his cheek. I have a feeling this is a onetime thing.

With that thought I grip the sheets tighter bringing them to wrap around me as I slide out of bed. I look back at Klaus to find him still asleep in all his glory; the sun now shining on his cute little butt. I shake my head the smile never leaving my face while I move across the room to the door. I'm hoping Rebekah isn't home so I can raid her closet. God only knows the last thing I need right now is questions I can't answer.

I just cross my fingers that Danny doesn't decide to come out of her room and find me in this sheet. Speaking of the sheet, I tighten my hold on the thin material as I get in arms reach of the door only to stumble back or risk losing the only thing covering my naked body. I twist around in confusion only to be met with a smirking Klaus as he has one foot planted firmly on my sheet.

"You know, I never get tired of catching you sneaking out on me." He smiles cheekily crossing his arms. I, unintentionally, run my eyes over his toned torso down to his equally impressive hips and legs.

"Right, but the only difference this time is you finally got me in bed. Mission accomplished!" I nod my head ignoring the frown that instantly turns down his lips. "So if you don't mind?" I tug expectantly at the sheet hoping he'll take the hint and let me have it. I'm happy to say he does take the hint, however, now I find myself on my back with Klaus on top of me. "Well doesn't this give me déjà vu," I grin seductively looking up into his ocean blue eyes.

"Hmm," he hums a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Before I can protest, he has us flipped over so I'm straddling his legs. He rests his arms comfortably behind his head as he grins devilishly up at me. "Now this brings back memories," he taunts enjoying himself.

I cock my head to the side, my long curls falling in my face, as I peer down at Klaus. His blue eyes are shining with an emotion I haven't seen in him before…happiness. For the first time, he looks utterly content; no secret agenda or risk of danger. It's just the two of us and for some odd reason it looks to be enough for him.

"What's on your mind, love?" Klaus pulls me out of my thoughts when he rests his hand lightly against my cheek. I shake my head getting rid of all my thoughts as I grab his neck and bring him up to me. I smash my lips hungrily against his reveling in the way his body instantly reacts to mine.

"Shower." I gasp when his mouth momentarily moves to my neck. Without a word, he grabs my butt lifting me up as my legs instinctively wrap around his waist. I grip his face in both of my hands bringing his lips to mine for one final dance before he flashes us into the bathroom kicking the door shut behind him.

Danny POV

I wake up to a dull ache in my stomach. I grimace grabbing my belly as I sit up in bed hoping it will ease some of the discomfort. It doesn't. I close my eyes and breathe through the pain ignoring the footsteps I hear coming down the hall. It's probably just Klaus checking in on me.

"Danny?" I snap my head up when I hear Alba's voice. She's standing in the doorway watching me with uncertainty. But her hesitance vanishes when she sees the look on my face. In an instant, she's pulling me into a bear hug. I wrap my arms tightly around her neck no doubt choking her, but she doesn't complain as she holds me back just as fiercely. "I am so sorry Danny." She says pulling away just enough so she can look me in the eyes. "You will never know how sorry I am. I had no idea what was going to happen, but it still doesn't excuse anything." She rambles until I place my hand over her mouth effectively silencing her.

"Alba. I am fine. Nothing happened to me," I say slowly so she understands there's nothing to worry about. "I can't say the same for you. What happened?" I ask the pain in my stomach forgotten.

"I turned," she says looking down at her hands. I feel my eyes widen in shock as my mouth tries to catch up with my brain.

"You turned into a wolf!?" I practically yell bouncing up and down on the bed. Alba shakes her head sighing before finally looking up at me.

"No I turned into a tiger. I should have known that I could shift especially with being the original guardian. I was stupid not to have thought about it sooner and because of that I put you in danger." Alba replies shamefully her eyes holding so much guilt.

"Alba," I groan taking her hand in mine. "You have got to stop putting so much weight on your shoulders. My goodness, if you add any more unnecessary guilt to your conscious, you'll be the new Stefan," I smile squeezing her hand. That earns me a light chuckle from her as she nods her head.

"Does that make you Damon?" She asks raising a questioning eyebrow. I puff out my chest and cross my arms doing my best Damon impression.

"Well I am the good looking one," I giggle completely breaking character when Alba sniggers.

"I could not agree more," she winks reaching behind her to grab a neatly wrapped tiny square package. "And because you're so gorgeous you deserve something almost as pretty as you." She beams presenting me with the box.

"Alba…" I give her a look taking the gift from her awaiting hands. "You shouldn't have gotten me anything." I say already tearing off the paper to reveal a small velvet box. I slowly open the box, gasping in shock when I find the sterling silver infinity ring inside. "Alba I can't take this." I shake my head pushing the gift back towards her, but she's already snatched the ring and slipped it on my finger before I can tell her differently.

"Ah, there is no take backs." She smiles lifting my hand with the ring on it. "It looks perfect on you Danny. Besides it represents our bond." She taps the center of the ring. "Together forever, isn't that right?" I feel my lip begin to tremble as I throw myself in her arms once again.

"Alba, it's beautiful I love it." I mumble into her neck when she squeezes me to her. We hold each other for a long time, neither one of us willing to let go first. But Klaus's voice booming for us to come get breakfast finally makes us break apart.

"So I ran home and grabbed you some clothes." She grins holding up jeans and a white and black baseball shirt. "Alright up," she demands jumping right in as I lift my arms. She quickly changes me into my new clothes while I run my eyes over her appearance. Her hair falls in its natural waves today over the black and white plaid shirt she's wearing accompanied by a pair of dark blue skinny jeans. She looks good as always.

"Did you grab-"

"Yes I grabbed your beanie," Alba cuts me off holding up my black beanie. I quickly place it over my bald head liking the warmth it provides. "Come on, we better get down there before Klaus comes up here to get us." She rolls her eyes playfully grabbing my hand so we can walk down together. We manage to find the kitchen by ourselves, but what we witness once we get there has both of us pausing in mild shock.

"Good morning ladies," Klaus grins from his place at the stove. "Have a seat." He nods his head towards the counter as we move to sit down. It's not even a minute later that Klaus is placing a plate of pancakes in front of each of us. I smile at how amazing it looks and smells.

"Thank you Klaus!" I beam diving in almost moaning at the first bite. I have to take it slow or risk throwing up which I would love to avoid. But it seems I'm the only one taking it slow as Alba is practically inhaling her pancakes barely pausing to take a sip of orange juice. I giggle softly stealing a glance at Klaus to find him watching Alba in amusement.

"Did I forget to mention shape shifting gives you a ferocious appetite?" Klaus smirks as Alba snaps her head up narrowing her eyes dangerously at him. I look between the two in confusion as they have a silent stare down.

"Am I missing something?" I ask curiously to which Klaus leans against the counter looking extra cocky this morning.

"Why don't you ask your sister?" Klaus raises a challenging eyebrow in Alba's direction as she ignores him turning to me.

"Nothing Danny so what do you want to do today?" She asks changing the subject awfully fast. I send Klaus a suspicious glare while he just shrugs and nods innocently.

"Well I heard that Damon Salvatore and my doppelganger were leaving for Denver this morning." Klaus pipes up looking pointedly at Alba. "Maybe Danny would like to go with them." He suggests surprising me.

"Really!?" I ask looking to Alba who has a small smile on her face. "I've never been to Colorado!" I almost squeal thinking about actually traveling before I die. "Can I Alba?" I ask looking at her through wide eyes.

"Danny, are you sure you can handle it? It's going to be a long trip." Alba sighs watching me closely as I answer.

"I'm dying! Who cares?!" I yell enthusiastically not thinking about my words until Alba and Klaus's smiles drop. "Well you know what I mean." I nudge my sister's shoulder playfully ignoring the exhaustion already plaguing my body.

"Will this make you happy?" Alba asks already caving with acceptance dancing in her eyes.

"It will make me very happy," I nod hugging Alba when she sighs, but nods her head. "Thank you! Thank you!"

"Hey I believe I'm the one that suggested the idea." Klaus pouts reminding me of a little boy.

"Well then come here," I giggle motioning him to join the hug which he eagerly does. I catch Alba roll her eyes, but grin once he comes around to her side. In one swift move, he has both Alba and I crushed to his chest. Not something I anticipated coming from the original hybrid, but not something I minded either.

"Listen, if you need anything, anything at all you call me, okay?" I say as the Salvatore's massive house comes into view. I glance at Danny out of the corner of my eye to find her trying to contain her excitement. "It doesn't matter where or when I will come and get you."

"Alba!" Danny groans lulling her head to face me. "I'm going to be fine. I promise. I'm going to be with Damon and Elena."

"Right because Damon and Elena are the model couple for safety," I bite putting the car in park before turning to fully face Danny. She has a death grip on the duffle sitting in her lap as she adjusts the beanie adorning her head.

"You checked with them, right? They know I'm coming?" Danny asks nervously watching the door in anticipation.

"Elena knows you're coming," I shrug when Danny flashes me an obvious look of surprise.

"You talked to Elena?"

"Don't make it into something it's not," I dead pan. "Now check to make sure you have everything while I go greet the natives." I smile leaning over to give her a peck on the cheek before stepping out of the car. I saunter up to the door eavesdropping on the conversation happening inside between my least two favorite brothers.

"You hear from Klaus?" Damon asks making me stop short of opening the door. I wait patiently as I listen.

"Not yet. I'm sure I will soon 's expecting me to deliver two stakes, I only have one." Stefan sighs sounding not the least bit worried that Klaus will kill him if he doesn't get what he wants.

"Well, that's gonna be disappointing for him." Damon remarks causing a slight chuckle to leave my lips as I swing open the front door.

"Actually it's going to be disappointing for the both of you," I smirk walking in to find Stefan holding up a white oak stake and Damon standing just inside the door with a pile of luggage at his feet. Both look surprised to see me, but Damon is the first to recover.

"Let me guess you're here for Klaus," Damon matches my smirk as I send a quick glance down at the luggage.

"Let me guess you're Elena's bitch boy for the weekend?" I grin when his smirk drops. "Don't assume that you know everything," I give him a look as I walk farther into the parlor.

"If you aren't here for Klaus then what are you doing here?" Stefan asks dropping the stake to his side. It's in that moment Elena walks into the room followed by the front door opening revealing a very tired Danny. In an instant, I'm by her side taking the duffle out of her hands putting my arm around her so she can lean on me.

"Okay will someone please tell me what's going on?" Damon questions annoyed eyeing Danny and me.

"Danny's coming with us," Elena speaks up smiling at Danny. "Hi Danny."

"Hey Elena, thank you for letting me come." Danny grins extremely happy despite the fact she's about to fall over from exhaustion.

"It's no problem Danny; we are going to have a great time." She smiles before lifting her gaze to mine. This is the first time we've seen each other since the spell and she looks sad as ever. "It's nice to see you Alba." She sends me a small smile that I reciprocate.

"Elena," I nod refocusing my gaze on Damon. He's eyeing Elena and me suspiciously like he doesn't know who to interrogate first. I roll my eyes tossing Danny's duffle at Damon so hard he groans when he catches it with his stomach.

"Will you put that in the car with the rest of the bags?" I ask innocently a smirk tugging at my lips when he glares gathering up the rest of the duffels.

"Certainly, anything else I can get for you?" He bites sarcastically shouldering his way out the door. "Maybe some cat chow?" I narrow my eyes letting him have that one. I don't want to have to kick his ass in front of Danny.

"Alba…" Danny whispers snapping a hand over her mouth as her body convulses.

"Bathroom?" I ask scooping Danny up as Stefan points upstairs.

"Second door on the left," I nod flashing up to the bathroom and not a moment too soon as Danny begins to throw up. I rub her back until she's thrown up the contents of her stomach before wetting a wash cloth and wiping off her face.

"Danny…" I say shaking my head as she holds up a weak hand.

"I'm going Alba." She gasps out catching her breath. "I know you want me to stay, but this might be my last chance to go somewhere I've never been. And I'm taking it," she reasons getting me with the puppy dog eyes. I scrub a hand down my face as I nod curtly.

"Okay, then let's get you down there." I sigh standing up and offering her my hand. She takes it not expecting me to throw her on my back like when she was younger and would beg me for piggyback rides. I stop and stare at us in the mirror for a moment thinking how times have changed. Danny's arms are wrapped around my neck while I support her legs. She looks so fragile as she fights for every breath she takes and it kills me. Seeing her like this sends an uncontrollable ache through my chest and I hope beyond words that this spell really works.

"Catwoman! Let's go!" Damon yells up the stairs as Danny giggles from behind me.

"Catwoman, I like that one." She yawns resting her head on my shoulder.

"Yeah, real clever," I quip rolling my eyes as I descend the stairs. I see that Stefan has disappeared into the basement with Alaric and Elena is standing in the doorway waiting for us. She smiles when she sees me, but quickly frowns when she spots Danny.

"Is she okay?" Elena asks worriedly arching her neck to get a good look at her.

"Good question," I muse bouncing Danny on my back earning me a groan and slap to the arm. "Yeah she's fine." I smirk watching Elena suddenly become entranced with me.

"God you looked so much like Damon right there." She shakes her head never taking her eyes off of me.

"I like to think I'm prettier," I snigger before turning serious. "Listen Danny has everything she needs in her bag. She has a paper sack in her pocket just in case she gets sick, also keep her away from really greasy foods they upset her stomach. If you could blast the heat in the car that would be great, Danny gets cold really easily these days and-"

"Jesus! Is she a gremlin?" Damon struts through the door a giant smirk on his face. I clench my jaw catching Elena's annoyed eye roll.

"Damon." Elena warns as he walks over to me pulling Danny gently into his arms. She's asleep instantly cozying up to the oldest Salvatore.

"I get it. I won't feed her after midnight, it's all good." He winks turning on his heel and walking out the door. I glare at his back thinking of every different way I could kill him.

"I'm sorry about Damon," Elena apologizes as I wave her off.

"No worries, it's Damon." I shrug not letting him get to me.

"I'll make sure Danny stays comfortable. She'll be safe with us," Elena tries to reassure me, but it has the opposite effect.

"Thanks," I say less than enthusiastically as I gesture towards the door, "I'm going to say good-bye to Danny." I nod making my escape to the car. Danny's still passed out in the back as I place a chaste kiss on her cheek. "I love you Danny," I whisper ignoring Damon's lingering gaze.

"I love you too," Danny mumbles making me smile.

"She'll be fine mom," Damon smirks walking around to my side of the car. I grin humorlessly staring him dead in the eye as I step closer to him.

"Listen I get that Danny is ruining your little weekend getaway with the doppelganger, but so help me Damon if anything happens to her, Klaus will be the last of your worries." I growl flashing my eyes towards Elena when she walks out the door. "Have fun!" I beam shoving Damon roughly on my way to the car. I can't willingly watch Damon and the doppelganger drive off with my little sister. It's just not going to happen.

I end up at the grill in a back corner booth away from the lunch crowd. Despite, the bad luck this place seems to generate with the supernatural, it's not so bad during the day. I check my phone for what seems like the millionth time while I wait for Danny's call. They've only been gone for an hour and already I'm itching to go get her.

When Klaus suggested she go this morning I thought it was a great idea. Of course, the only reason he brought it up was because Kol is in Denver with Jeremy. Something Danny has no clue about so it will be a great surprise for her. Just like it's going to be one hell of a shock for Damon and Elena. I chuckle picturing their reactions. No doubt, Elena will gasp playing the damsel in distress and Damon will play the knight in shining armor which actually means he's going to get his ass kicked…like a champ.

I jump when my phone starts to vibrate in my pocket. In an instant, it's in my hand and pressed to my ear.

"Danny!" I answer breathless while I wait to hear her airy voice.

"I'm afraid it's not Danny," Elijah chuckles on the other end making me grin despite the fact he's not Danny.

"Well if isn't my favorite Mikaelson. How's your search coming?" I ask tapping my fingers lightly against the table.

"I'm close. There aren't too many places my mother can hide and I've been getting help from some witches in the Amazon." He informs me as I hum in response.

"Just be careful. Witches are sneaky little bitches and I don't want you getting hurt." I tell him my stomach churning at the possibility of something happening to him.

"I always am," he replies casually before asking, "Now what is this I hear about you turning into a cat?"

"I turned into a tiger, thank you very much. Calling me a cat is just insulting to my inner beast." I smirk highly amused with the fact I can shape shift into a freaking tiger.

"My mistake," I can hear the smile in Elijah's voice as he continues, "in China the White Tiger is actually considered to be the king of the beasts, not the lion."

"So what you're saying is I'm king of the beasts," I smirk cocking an eyebrow at the thought. "Klaus is not going to be very happy about this." I snicker.

"What am I not going to be happy about, love?" Klaus slides in across from me a shit eating grin on his face.

"Oh speak of the devil," I smile looking into his blue eyes. "Elijah here was just telling me that the White Tiger is king of the beasts. Wait, so nowhere in your reading did it mention the original hybrid being king?" I ask biting my lip to refrain from laughing at Klaus's bemused smirk.

"I can't say he was ever brought up," Elijah answers quickly getting as much pleasure out of teasing Klaus as I am.

"What! I'm shocked!" I feign surprise covering my mouth with my hand. "It looks like you have some competition after all." I tease winking at Klaus.

"Oh there's no competition at all, love," Klaus smiles mischievously leaning forward resting his elbows on the table. "I'm the king and your my queen, after all, you did a fantastic job taming my beast last night." He smirks satisfied leaning back in the booth.

"Ah that's so sweet," I sigh cocking my head to the side. "I wish I could say the same." I grin watching his smirk widen. "Elijah, I'll call you back later." I say shutting my phone never taking my eyes off Klaus.

"You know, love, I'll only get better with practice." He raises an eyebrow as I laugh shaking my head.

"I don't doubt it, but you won't be getting any practice today." I smile standing up and offering him my hand. "Come on, there's something I want to show you." He looks at me suspiciously flicking his eyes from me to my hand. I roll my eyes, but bend down and capture his lips with my own. It's a short sweet peck that doesn't last too long, but still sends pleasant shivers down my spine. "Trust me?" I ask still hovering over his face. He watches me intensely like he's not sure if this is for real or not and for the first time, I see his vulnerability.

"Don't make me regret it," he says taking my hand as I pull him into me. I lead him out of the grill only one thought on my mind. I hope you don't.

Danny POV

"Wake up sleepy head," I feel someone gently shaking my shoulder as I pry open my eyes. The airplane ride took a lot out of me and I passed out as soon as we landed in Denver.

"Where are we?" I ask wincing while I try to sit up. I'm sore everywhere, but it's worth it.

"We're at the batting cages, Jeremy's here." Elena beams her smile holding so much excitement at the prospect of seeing her little brother. I muster up a smile for her as I make eye contact with Damon over her shoulder. He's standing with this arms crossed watching us intently. He hasn't said a word to me since we left the house this morning and I'm starting to think he's angry I came.

"Okay let's go," I sigh slowly climbing out of the car. My joints feel like I haven't moved in weeks and I'm afraid I won't be able to walk. However, Elena is right there to take my hand when my feet finally hit ground. "Thanks," I mumble leaning heavily on Elena as she smiles and nods her head.

"Can you two hurry it up? We're on a time limit," Damon snaps making me look down shamefully.

"Damon," Elena warns tightening her hold on my waist. "We'll take our time." She looks down at me softly, "Don't listen to him he's just a cranky ass." I try to laugh with her, but I feel that familiar twitch in my gut.

"Elena can you help me to the bathroom?" I ask quietly avoiding Damon's eyes at all cost.

"Of course," she nods moving us rather quickly to the restrooms. "Do you need help?" She asks taking a step into the bathroom with me. I simply shake my head no while trying to keep the contents of my stomach down.

"I'm fine, go see Jeremy; I'll come find you guys when I'm done." I smile encouragingly nodding my head towards the cages. She looks at me uncertainly, but nods her head.

"Alright, but if you need me or Damon just call us, okay?" She says still looking unsure. I nod my head and close the door before stumbling to the toilet and releasing my lunch. It's not the best feeling in the world and I cry every time, but I'm getting used to it. Which is downright sad, but what am I going to do?

I sit leaning back against the stone wall trying to push the rolling in my tummy down. I wish Alba was here, but if I call her she'll just automatically know something is wrong. She has a sixth sense when it comes to everything me. I briefly wonder what she's doing and why she couldn't come with me, but I know it must be something important. Despite her nonchalance about the whole trip I know she wasn't happy about it.

I groan when someone knocks on the door. As quickly as I can, I crawl to my feet almost falling once. However, I manage to make it to my feet and to the door in record breaking time…for me.

"I'm sorry it took so lo….Kol!" I gasp feeling my whole body go rigid when I open the door to find my smirking original.

"Miss me, sweetheart?" He asks his eyes taking in my beaten state. I don't even care as I fling myself into his arms.

"What are you doing here?" I'm so happy I feel like crying, but I keep myself in check as I squeeze his neck anaconda style.

"Well I heard there was going to be a pretty girl in town and I just had to come see for myself." He answers smoothly hugging me back almost as tightly.

"Oh did you need help finding her?" I ask seriously pulling away in time to catch his grin falter. He doesn't say anything as he watches me like he can't tell if I'm serious or not. Eventually, I can't take the silence or his brown eyes boring into my own as I look away. "What happened to your shirt?" I ask noticing the gaping hole in the material. I glance back up at Kol suspiciously, "Kol, where is Elena and Damon?" This brings a new sinister smirk to his lips as he scoops me up bridal style in his arms before I can protest. Not that I would, it seems the longer I die, the less willpower I have.

"They left taking the Gilbert boy with them." He says casually walking me to his Jeep Cherokee.

"They left me?" I frown as he deposits me in the passenger seat. Did they really forget about me? Or did they just leave me willingly? I hear Kol sigh before his hand is on my chin and he's gently tugging my face up to look at him.

"I didn't give them much of a choice when I started to beat Damon with a bat. They staked me," he says motioning to the hole in his shirt, "and in their haste to leave, they simply forgot. Trust me they'll be flipping their lids in no time." He smirks getting way too much satisfaction out of this. He shuts my door walking away to the driver's side and sliding into the jeep. "Besides, I'm not the one they have to be worried about."

"Who do they have to be worried about?" I ask confused as he starts the car and pulls out of the parking lot. He just laughs turning amused eyes on me.

"You're sister."

Everyone has secrets. The little things they don't share with anyone because to them they are the most important things in the world. I am one of these people. I carry two types of secrets; the dark ones that reside in the deepest part of my mind and the one secret I've never shown anyone before…until today.

"Well love I can't say I'm disappointed," Klaus smirks when I lead him into my bedroom. I roll my eyes at his one track mind as he jumps gracefully on my bed. He looks like a Greek god sprawled across my comforter and for a moment I can't help, but stare. "Come here," he demands playfully a small smile gracing his lips.

"I don't take orders from puppies," I tease winking at him before turning around and walking towards my closet. I can feel his eyes on my ass as I swing open the doors and shove the clothes aside to reveal the back wall. "This is what I wanted to show you," I say taking a timid step back for him. In a second, he's standing beside me his eyes trailing over every inch of the map adorning my closet wall.

"What do these mean?" Klaus asks stepping forward pointing to the red and blue tacs that litter the map I've had since I was seven.

"The red tacs are where I've been and the blue tacs are where I want to go," I explain looking over the seven or eight red tacs compared to the thirty or so blue ones. It may seem silly to have this as my big secret, but to me it's one of the most important aspects of my life. There has not been a day that I haven't looked at this map and wondered what my life was going to be like once I got away from the supernatural. What it would be like to just travel and live the rest of my days exploring everything this world has to offer. That was my endgame, but things change.

"Why are you showing me this?" Klaus asks taking a step back to tower over me. I shrug my shoulders, for the first time in years, I feel a little shy.

"Because you've been to all these places or some of them anyways," I sigh looking towards the map to avoid Klaus's intrusive gaze. "I want to hear stories of what it's like, what you did there, who you met." I sigh looking back into Klaus's blue eyes, "I want to know it all."

"I have a better idea," Klaus grins leaning down to whisper in my ear. "How about I show you?" He pulls away so he can see my wide smile, "Have you ever eaten breakfast on top of the Eiffel Tower at sunrise or walked the Great Wall of China? Have you ever watched the bulls run in Spain or jumped off Niagara Falls?" I simply shake my head winding my arms around his neck.

"I've ran with the wolves in the Tennessee Mountains and I've eaten breakfast in Chinatown New York. I've watched a half assed rodeo in Georgia and jumped off the bluffs here in town." I shrug my shoulders laughing when Klaus does.

"That is just sad, love." He shakes his head placing a chaste kiss on my forehead. "We're going to have to do something about that."

"Maybe one day we will," I smile sadly before grabbing his hand and leading him to the bed. "But until that day comes I want to hear your stories." I say pulling Klaus down next to me on the bed. I rest my head on his arm and throw my legs over his as I get comfortable. "Let's start with Ireland."

"Oh Ireland," Klaus chuckles as I stare up into his amused face. "Well that actually happens to be an interesting story. It was 1751…" I listen intently as he relays his time in Ireland. I laugh at appropriate times wondering what it was like for him. What it would be like to go everywhere Klaus promised we would. I don't have the heart to tell him I won't be making it out of Mystic Falls so I listen instead. I listen to him retelling his tales of adventure and watch the absolute happiness on his face of everything he's seen. And for this one day it's like I am there and we are doing all these things together; like it should be.

Damon POV

"Damon we need to go back for her!?" Elena yells for the hundredth time in the hour we've been driving.

"Elena we did go back and she wasn't there," I growl trying to contain my anger. I fucked up majorly this time.

"I don't care! We should have searched the town or done something! I can't believe you just left her!" She yells while Jeremy nods his head in agreement.

"I'm sorry Elena, but I don't remember hearing you bring up Danny once while we were running away." I snap glaring at her before stepping out of the car. "I didn't leave her, we all did." I point out flinging open the trunk and grabbing our bags.

"Yeah, but the only difference is we actually wanted to stay and look for her." Jeremy shakes his head snatching his bag and sulking up to the hotel room.

"I can't believe this Damon. How could we forget her?" Elena sniffles tears springing into her big brown eyes. I sigh my anger disappearing the longer I stare at her.

"Listen, chances are Kol took her." I begin watching Elena's eyes widen in terror. "But I am going to get her back. Nothing will happen to her." I reassure the girl standing in front of me. "We just have to finish what we came here for. We can't lose sight of that."

"Okay I agree," Elena sighs shaking her head. I know she doesn't like it, but she knows its right. "Damon…" Elena suddenly says paling like she's just seen a ghost. "What are we going to do about Alba?" The undeniable fear lays ever present in her words.

"What about her?" I smirk watching the frown that instantly turns down Elena's lips.

"Damon we need to tell her. You know as well as I do that it will only be worse the longer we wait." She bites her lip running a hand through her hair. "I'll call her." She nods pulling her phone out, her hand shaking like a leaf.

"No," I groan stealing her phone as she huffs in protest. "I'll call her. You go get settled and fill Jeremy in on what we need him to do. I'll handle Alba." I hand Elena her bag and watch the relieved smile that lights up her face.

"Thank you Damon." She nods turning on her heel and walking to our room. I watch her leave gripping the phone so hard in my hand it's liable to shatter. It wouldn't be the first time I've broken something over Alba.

After several minutes of pure debating, I punch in her number and put the phone to my ear. It only rings once before Alba's rushed voice hits me.

"What's wrong?" Alba skips the greetings altogether as she jumps straight to the point.

"I don't want you to freak out, but we sort of lost Danny." I reply casually hearing the rapid rise and fall of her chest before I hear nothing at all. "Alba?" I ask looking at my phone realizing too late that she hung up on me. "Nice talking to you too." I roll my eyes grabbing my things and going up to the room. Little did I know the consequences that would arise.

Danny POV

Riding in the jeep with Kol is the most at peace I've been in weeks. The windows are rolled down letting in the breeze and I feel completely at ease. I let my hand dangle out the window enjoying the way the sun shines down on my skin. It's almost like I've been cooped up for weeks and I'm finally free. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

"What are you thinking about?" Kol breaks the silence turning his brown eyes on me. I shrug a small smile coming to my lips.

"Do you remember your first kiss?" I ask wondering just how much the original is willing to share with me.

"Now Danny if you want to kiss me all you have to do is ask." Kol grins devilishly enjoying himself. I smile shaking my head.

"Come on, I'm curious." I plead even pouting when he turns to me. I watch him narrow his eyes and sigh.

"Fine just stop with the puppy dog eyes," he groans making me giggle. "I was probably around your age and it was with some girl in my village. I don't even remember her name." He shrugs losing interest fast.

"Hmm," I nod expecting a little more than that, but I'll take what I can get.

"What about you?" Kol asks looking intrigued and slightly angry. "Who was your first kiss with?" I blush looking down at my hands in embarrassment.

"I've never had one." I mutter quietly hoping he doesn't hear me. He does.

"Oh really?" He hums eyeing me from head to toe. I squirm under his gaze not too sure I like how it makes me feel.

"Have you ever been in love?" I question watching his gaze linger on mine for a moment longer before he returns his eyes to the road.

"Why so curious?" Kol asks evading my question with his usual charm.

"Because you may live forever, but I will not. So I want to know as much about you as I can." I watch his jaw clench as he avoids my eyes by switching lanes. He stays quiet for a very long time almost making me think he's not going speak again.

"I don't believe in love," he finally says his eyes focused on the road. "I've seen enough to know that lust is a much more powerful tool than love." I cock my head to the side letting his words soak in.

"You know," I say turning my whole body towards Kol as I bring my knees to my chest, "I don't think it's you that doesn't believe in love. I think it's the fact that you believe no one will love you is the problem." Before I can even finish my words, Kol has the car pulled over and is snatching me out of my seat. "Kol!" I scream more out of shock than anything.

"What makes you think you know me so well?" Kol bites gripping me by the hips and setting me on the jeeps hood. He then plants his hands firmly on either side of me and leans in close. "Why do you always assume I'm not the blood thirsty monster I really am?"

"Oh I know who you are and what you're capable of, Kol. I've never been naïve to what you've done and what you become, I just don't care." I shrug my shoulders enjoying the confusion clouding his face. "I like everything about you from your vanity right down to your smug smirk. I don't care about you're past or what you do when you're not with me because at the end of the day, you make me happy." I smile feeling a weight lift off my chest with each word. "And as for the first question, everyone believes in love. You've just been around for a thousand years; plus I bet it's pretty easy to lose sight of what it's like to feel love when you're stuck in a box." I finish taking a deep breath after my little speech.

"You are something," Kol murmurs cupping my cheek in one of his hands. His eyes hold awe as they run over my face. I feel my body tense when his thumb ghosts across my lips.

"Are you going to kiss me?" I squeak making Kol grin as he bends down his face inches from my own.

"Do you want me to kiss you Danny?" He asks, his breath fanning over my lips. I feel myself go slack jaw while I try to think of an answer.

"Um," I can't think of a damn thing with him this close. "I-you-uh."

"Bullocks!" Kol suddenly yells reaching into his pocket and grabbing his phone. He looks at the caller ID before rolling his eyes. "Hold that thought," he comments before answering the call and walking down the road. I watch his back my heart finally coming down from its high. I look around wondering if anyone saw that, but then I realize we are in the middle of nowhere. "Well I have good news and bad news," Kol replies chipper coming back to the jeep. He swiftly loops an arm around my waist hauling me off the jeeps hood and setting me on my feet.

"What's the bad news?" I ask confused staggering to the passenger's side and climbing in.

"The bad news is someone spilled the beans about Salvatore leaving you behind to your sister. Apparently, she's tearing the town apart as we speak." Kol smirks making me gasp. I instinctively reach into my pocket for my phone only to come up short.

"I must have dropped my phone back at the batting cages! Alba's probably so worried; did you tell whoever was on the phone that I'm with you?" I ask hoping Alba will know soon that I'm safe.

"Now why would I go and do something like that?" Kol snickers, a mischievous grin turning up his lips.

"Kol!" I gap my heart beating a mile a minute. "You have to call her!? She's most likely freaking out!"

"As she should be!" Kol scoffs pressing his foot down harder on the accelerator. "She knows better than to trust Damon Salvatore and the doppelganger to protect you. I'm going to make her sweat it out for as long as I want." He snaps disdain dripping from his words. I narrow my eyes at his childish ways as I cross my arms and stare out the window. If he wants to act like a five year old then two can play that game. "Aw, but don't you want to know the good news?" I can hear the grin in Kol's voice as he waits for my answer. I don't acknowledge him as I pull my knees up to my chest. "Well, sweetheart, the good news is we get a little more time together. Thanks for asking." It's amazing how fast he can dissolve my anger. I sigh lulling my head to look at him. His jaw is clenched while he watches the road. My little display of defiance clearly angered the original. Before I can think about it, I lean across the seat and peck him on the cheek.

"Thank you Kol," I whisper quickly sliding back into my earlier position. I don't have to look at Kol to know he's sporting a large satisfied smile.

"You're welcome, sweetheart."

Damon POV

The lights are off and the kids are in bed by the time I walk out of the bathroom. Jeremy is taking up one bed while Elena is sound asleep on the other. I hope baby Gilbert knows I have no intention of cuddling up to him tonight. I have my own agenda. With that thought, I throw on my shirt not bothering to button it up as I take a seat pouring myself a glass of whiskey.

I take a swig of the alcohol enjoying the trail of heat it leaves down my throat. I've done nothing, but dodge calls from Stefan and Klaus all day. Both are royally pissed I lost Danny, but now it seems Alba has gone missing as well. What those two don't seem to understand is I perfected the art of pushing the stupid shit I do to the back of my mind. That's why while Elena's been ridden with guilt about leaving little Martinez behind, I've been figuring out what to do next. After Jeremy managed to get ahold of Rose, we found out scary Mary was the person we needed to find. Only problem is no one knows where she is, at least, we won't until Rose flies her ghostly ass back with some answers. Then once we find Mary I'll high tail my ass back to Denver to look for Danny. It's a win-win for every one; I decide downing the rest of my beverage.

I sigh looking towards Elena only to find her big brown eyes staring back at me. She quickly closes them pretending to be asleep, but it's too late. I've already seen her. I tilt my head to the side running my gaze over her still form. My god, she couldn't be more perfect if she tried. It's with that thought that I stand and walk to her bed. I quietly drape my body next to hers keeping my gaze locked with her now open eyes. She watches me intently as I get comfortable throwing an arm behind my head.

"You never told me about that. What you did for Rose." Elena whispers affectionately. She's looking at me like she used to look at Stefan and I don't like it.

"It wasn't about you." I dead pan lifting my gaze to the ceiling. I can tell my remark got on her nerves by how her body tensed up.

"Why don't you let people see the good in you?" She asks sounding exasperated that she hasn't "gotten through" to me yet.

"Because when people see good, they expect good." I say turning my gaze back to hers. "And I don't want to have to live up to anyone's expectations." I speak the truth, but it doesn't seem to please Elena as she huffs and turns away. I keep my eyes on her even when she lays her arm next to mine presenting me with the opportunity to caress her hand. I can see the hitch in her breath as a mix of emotions slide over her face before she stands abruptly and walks out the door. I'm not letting a moment like this pass as I get up and follow. I find her leaning heavily against the ice machine her breathing ragged.

"Don't," it's all she has to say to make me stop. She won't look at me, but I can hear her heart beating. She wants this as much as I do.

"Why not?" I ask watching her shoulders heave as she shakes her head. "Elena…" I whisper just as she launches herself into my arms and covers my lips with hers. My hand instantly slides into her hair as I pull her against me. Our kiss is hungry and full of desire as I push her against the ice machine attacking her neck. I can see how much she likes it when I finally stop and look her in the eyes. I run my thumb over her cheek in amazement at the beauty standing in front of me, everything else forgotten.

"Am I interrupting something?" A smooth voice comes from behind me. The last thing I see is Elena's eyes flooding with panic before I'm launched into the air.

Alba POV

I watch in satisfaction as Damon's body crashes through his hotel room window leaving him crippled on the floor. The bastard should have known I would be coming for him.

"Alba!" Elena gulps as I turn my icy glare on her. I can tell by the way she flinches away from me that she instantly regrets it.

"Elena!" I beam taking a step in her direction as she cowers in the corner. She looks like a trapped animal and I realize with a grin that's exactly what she is. "Long time no see, hey; you wouldn't happen to know where my sister is, would you?" I ask innocently watching her face contort into grief.

"Alba I am so sorry! You have no idea how awful I feel!" She cries, actual tears springing in her eyes.

"Oh yeah," I smirk nodding towards an unconscious Damon. "I can see how awful you must feel." I hiss advancing towards her thinking about every possible way I can remove her head from her body when someone interrupts me.

"Elena!" I raise an eyebrow turning in time to see Jeremy burst through the hotel room door. He comes to a screeching halt once he finds me. "Alba…" he acknowledges looking over my shoulder to send his sister a questioning look.

"I'm okay Jeremy," Elena reassures him just as I snap my hand out to circle around her neck. Her chocking is like music to my ears.

"Elena!" Jeremy yells running towards us, but I simply wag my finger at him.

"Ah, ah, ah. I wouldn't take another step Gilbert or I throw your sister over the railing. We'll see how she comes back to life with her skull caved in." I glare tightening my hand around the doppelgangers throat.

"Alba, you don't want to do this." Jeremy tries to reason with me. I roll my eyes looking back to a red faced Elena.

"Is he serious?" I ask just as I'm thrown backwards forced to release my grip on the Gilbert bitch. In the blink of an eye Damon is in front of him with his hand wrapped around my own neck. He squeezes not wasting time in trying to cut off my air supply.

"You need to relax," he hisses making my eyes turn an electric blue. I can feel my inner beast thrashing around inside of me, begging for the chance to rip Damon apart. The surprise is evident in his eyes when I grab a hold of his wrist and snap his whole arm like a twig. He yells out in pain as I punch him in the gut before kneeing him in the face. He goes down without a fight.

"Alba please!" Elena yells her eyes wide in terror.

"Are you still talking?" I ask Elena looking at Jeremy who is standing protectively in front of her. I tap my chin in mock thought as an idea comes to mind. "Hey Jer," I call smirking at Elena as I continue speaking. "Do me a favor and take this piece of glass," I say holding up a large shard near my foot, "and shove it through your leg."

"WHAT!?" Elena screams trying desperately to pull Jeremy back to her when his eyes go void of emotion. "Alba stop this!" She wails looking at Damon helplessly who is starting to climb to his feet. In an instant, my foot is crushing his windpipe as I effectively keep him down. Jeremy has managed to get out of Elena's death grip as he walks to me.

"So tell me Elena, how does it feel to have your family played with?" I ask, my blood boiling at the sight of her. When Damon had called me earlier I instantly dialed Kol's number in hopes that he had found Danny. It was only when he told me he didn't that I felt something snap inside of me. Sure I am going to find Danny, but that doesn't mean I am going to let Damon and Elena off that easy. Jeremy stops in front of me as I present him with the shard.

"Alba!" Elena cries, actual tears falling down her cheeks as Damon tries uselessly to remove my foot. "Please don't do this!" I keep my eyes trained on hers as Jeremy lifts the glass and brings it down towards his leg. "No!"

"Jeremy stop!" I smirk when Jeremy stops inches from his thigh. He looks at me confused as I take the glass from his hand. "Go back and comfort your sister." I compel him as he nods and walks to Elena. I remove my foot allowing Damon to stand. He doesn't even try to come at me again which is a smart move on his part.

"Are you crazy?" Damon growls angrily getting in my face. Okay maybe he isn't that smart.

"No I'm pissed," I snap shoving Damon away from me. "Now you're going to take me back to where you left Danny right now." I leave no room for argument, but apparently Damon thinks there's room to negotiate.

"Not until we finish what we came here to do." He snaps giving me a condescending smirk.

"You came here to get with Elena," I smirk when his nostrils flare, "mission accomplished. I'm just sorry that Danny had to be left behind for you to achieve it!"

"Shut up!" Jeremy yells breaking Damon and I from our stare down. "Listen!" It's then that the cop sirens register in my ears. I groan scrubbing a hand down my face.

"I'll compel them, it's fine." I snarl looking between the three of them. "I'll be waiting in the car. Grab your stuff and let's go. Vacation time is over." With that, I walk down the steps ignoring their heated stares following me all the way down.

The car is silent as we make our way down the road. I can feel Jeremy's angered gaze through my seat while Elena stares out her window avoiding me altogether. I smirk getting comfortable in the passenger seat ignoring Damon's not so subtle glances. By the way he's white knuckling the steering wheel it's not hard to tell he's pissed.

"Klaus is ruining you." It's the first thing Damon's said since he's started driving. He looks so serious and so sure that Klaus is the one making me behave like this. I think it's time he knows the truth.

"Elena and Jeremy go to sleep," I compel them without even looking back. I wait until their soft snores fill the car before I turn to Damon. His hair looks a mess, his eyes wild, and he looks every bit the man I thought he would be. I just wish I had been wrong about him.

"First off," I begin holding up my middle finger. "Klaus is not ruining me; in fact, Klaus is the only person that tried to get me to stay and cool down before I left Mystic Falls. As you can see, he failed." I continue over Damon's scoff as I hold up another finger. "Second off," I take a breath trying to keep my voice from trembling. "How could you forget Danny? Did you really want alone time with Elena that bad?" I ask the disappointment so thick in my voice that Damon doesn't answer right away. I can see the flash of hurt in his eyes when he looks at me.

"I didn't leave Danny behind on purpose. I was just so worried about getting Elena out of there that-"

"That you couldn't even take the time to check and see if my little sister was in the car," I shake my head sighing loudly. "You know if the roles were reversed, I would have made sure Stefan was safe before I even thought about myself."

"Well we all can't be as selfless as you." Damon grits turning narrowed eyes on me. I can only stare at him wondering why I even try anymore. It's not like he's going to change.

"Damon do you even hear yourself sometimes? It's not about being selfless; it's about protecting the people we care about. It's about not letting one girl destroy every relationship you have and let me tell you something, Elena's going to be here tomorrow and the next day. But Danny won't be. I trusted you with the most precious thing in my life and you fucked it up. All for a girl that is using you. This was your last chance Damon," I shake my head crossing my arms. Why bother continuing? It's silent for a really long time after my little speech. I've managed to go from seething angry to just disappointed.

"I'm sorry Alba that I can't be the man you want me to be." He finally whispers never taking his eyes off the road.

"I'm not Elena, Damon. I never wanted you to change for me. I just thought that maybe for once you would care about someone else as much as you care for the doppelganger." I say just as quietly as we continue the ride in silence. By the time we pull up to the monster of a house in the middle of nowhere I'm ready to get the hell out of dodge. "Listen, I'll help you with Scary Mary, but after this is done we part ways. I'll find Danny on my own." I say stepping out of the car and looking around the area checking for potential threats.

"Fine, wake up Elena and Jeremy." He nods towards their sleeping forms. I do as he asks making sure to scare the shit out of Elena when she wakes up to find me standing over the top of her.

"Alba!" She breathes looking around her in panic until she spots Damon.

"Relax Gilbert if I wanted you dead you would be." I chuckle taking a step back so she can get out of the car. She instantly makes a beeline for Damon and Jeremy relief covering her face when she makes it to them.

"This is the address?" Jeremy asks looking up at the house in confusion.

"Welcome to Mary's home," I sigh walking pass the trio. "Who's coming with me?" I ask well aware that Elena and Damon would leave little Gilbert behind. I grin when that's exactly what they do. Don't get me wrong I know why they are here, I'm not stupid. Kol called me when they were grabbing their bags from the hotel room. I can already hear him inside with Mary. I wait for the other two as we walk up to the house and go inside.

"So, out of curiosity, who's going to break the news to Stefan?" I ask referring to their little kiss. Elena lights the torch she found at just the right moment for me to watch the blood drain from her face. Damon merely glares at me refusing to take the bait.

"Oof," Damon's face turns up in disdain as we look around the clustered space. "Like vampire hoarders," he comments shuffling past a large pile of junk.

"Who is this Mary person?" Elena asks from behind me as we move in a line.

"Scary Mary. She's really old, super creepy." I answer recalling the few times I've met the old girl.

"And how do you know her, Damon?" Elena's question makes me send her a disbelieving look over my shoulder. She pretends not to see me as she stares at Damon's back.

"I dated her." Damon answers simply making me snicker.

"Of course," Elena replies rather dryly.

"There's not much Damon won't date." I chuckle smirking when Damon huffs in annoyance.

"Like your mom," its faint so faint Damon doesn't even catch it, but I do. Before Damon or Elena can even register what is happening I have Elena picked up by the throat and thrown into the next room. She goes crashing through the doors and skids across the floor, her head hitting the opposite wall. In a flash, Damon is across the room picking her up and checking for a pulse.

"You always did know how to make an entrance," Kol quips from his spot in a chair next to the door. He has a baseball bat in his hand and a smirk on his face.

"What can I say?" I smirk looking around the room before I spot Mary staked to the wall just above Damon and Elena. "Mary," I observe tilting my head to the side examining her decayed body.

"Quite contrary," Kol snickers making me roll my eyes.

"What the hell is this?" Damon snaps drawing both of our attentions to him. He's currently feeding Elena his blood while giving me deadly eyes.

"You know, it's a shame about Mary, she used to be a blast. Don't quite know what happened. I fear all the time she spent with my family might have ruined her. She was a bit of an Original groupie." He shrugs standing from his chair.

"Let me guess, you were her favorite?" I ask taunting Damon when his eyes zero in on Kol. Kol just grins tapping the end of his bat against his chin like he's deep in thought.

"You mean, did I turn her? I think I did. But no, wait, maybe it was Rebekah. There was also a Klaus period. And let's not forget the Elijah affair." Kol smirks walking over to Damon and throwing him across the room. Elena slumps against the floor still unconscious from my attack. "I spoke to my brother; I know you're trying to find out who you're descended from. Now you never will. So, where did we leave off?" Kol's smile turns sadistic as he beats Damon repeatedly with his bat.

"Kol, where did you park?" I ask deciding my assistance was no longer needed. He stops looking up at me with a secretive twinkle in his eye.

"Out back, sweetheart." I nod flashing my eyes down to Damon who won't even look at me. Good. I go out the back way almost getting lost in the clutter. However, I manage to make it stopping dead in my tracks when I see Danny asleep in the passenger seat of his jeep. I feel my heart stop beating as I flash over to her nearly ripping the doors off its hinges.

"Danny! Oh my god you're okay!" I yell wrapping my arms around her and swinging her into the air. I squeeze her really tight burying my face in her neck feeling the verge of tears coming on.

"Alba…can't…breathe." She gasps out making me laugh as I set her down. I keep a hold of her hands while I kneel down beside her seat.

"I am so sorry Danny! I can't even describe how much I'm going to make it up to you! I'm just…"I can't even finish as I launch myself at her one last time.

"Alba!" She giggles wrapping her arms around me. "It's okay! I actually had a lot of fun!" She sounds overly cheery as I pull away. I narrow my eyes in suspicion checking her for injuries.

"Just how long have you been with Kol?" I ask when the man himself answers.

"All day," he smirks coming up beside us. A shit eating grin covers his face with his bat hanging casually over his left shoulder. "After those fools left her in the bathroom I found her and she's been with me ever since."

"So when I called you today?" I ask my anger growing yet again.

"She was with me." He smirks right before I snap his neck.

"Alba!" Danny squeals watching his body fall to the ground. I shrug innocently nudging his side with my foot.

"Oops," I deadpan lifting him up and setting him in the backseat. I don't even make it to the driver's side before Danny has crawled her way into the backseat. "Seriously?" I ask watching her lift Kol's head into her lap so she can rub his head.

"You broke his neck," she snaps actually looking a tad angry. "The least I can do is make sure he's comfortable." I raise an eyebrow at her hostility, but let it slide.

"Fine," I consent sliding in the car and starting the engine. I pull away from the house and Jeremy who is still leaning lazily against the hood.

Danny POV

"I'm sorry for snapping Kol's neck." Alba finally sighs from the front seat after about an hour of driving in silence.

"It's okay," I smile leaning up to rest my hand on her shoulder. She instinctively grabs it running her thumb over the ring she bought me. "I'm sorry I made you worry."

"It doesn't matter," Alba gives my hand a squeeze smiling at me through the mirror. "I'm just glad Kol found you. But seriously he deserved that neck snap."

"I beg to differ, darling." I jump pulling away from Alba to look down at the original in my lap. He's grinning up at me, a twinkle in his eye. "Well I have to say I've woken up in worst positions." I cover my mouth to hide my giggle as we stare at each other.

"I don't doubt it," Alba retorts from the front seat breaking our spell. "You're lucky I only broke your neck and not another part of your anatomy you're so very fond of." She threatens making Kol roll his eyes and sit up.

"You're threats are almost as bad as my brothers," Kol sneers making Alba laugh.

"I actually follow through with my threats so keep that in mind," she sends him a hard look over her shoulder making him scoff. "So what did you two do all day?" Alba asks as I lean my head against the window suddenly tired. It looks like the adrenaline high I've been on all day is finally fading.

"That's a good question," Kol muses turning playful eyes on me. "Danny?"

"We drove around while Kol talked about himself," I smile wearily catching Kol's pout.

"Now that's not very nice," Kol frowns before turning to Alba. "Danny kissed me!" I gap whipping to face the smirking original.

"You did!?" Alba asks clearly in shock, her mouth hanging open as she drives.

"I kissed him on the cheek," I explain sending Kol a glare shoving his shoulder causing myself to move back instead of him.

"Oh," Alba calms down, a smile still on her face, "was his face as cold as his heart?" She asks with a smirk looking in the mirror at Kol.

"Very funny," Kol deadpans spreading his arms out so one is draped over the back of my seat.

"Warm," I sigh sleepily feeling myself drift in and out of consciousness. I briefly ponder if this is normal before I feel someone pull me to them. Before the darkness completely consumes me I hear Kol whisper in my ear.

"Go to sleep love, I've got you." And I do.

It's been hours since we've left Mary's and I sigh in relief when we pass the Mystic Falls sign. I look in the rearview mirror to catch Kol running his hand softly down Danny's back as she sleeps in his arms. She's sitting in his lap with her head sitting comfortably in the crook of his neck. When Kol first moved her I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Out of all the originals Kol is the one with the least humanity. Yet as I watch him with Danny, I think she'll be okay when I'm gone.

"You're staring," he drawls not even lifting his gaze from Danny.

"So are you," I point out with a smirk which causes him to snap his eyes to mine. We have a stare down before I break the silence. "Kol there's something I have to tell you and I need you to keep a level-head about it." I say returning my eyes to the road. After watching him with Danny, I trust him to understand. "I made the Bennett witch do a spell," I feel the instant change in the air as his body tenses. "She tied my life to Danny's so when Danny dies, she'll take my life force saving herself." I nod, the silence settling like a thick fog in the car. "Listen, Danny doesn't know," I begin only to have something blur past me just as I end up in the passenger seat and the car is suddenly being pulled over to the side of the road. "Kol, what the hell?" I hiss staring at the vampire that now sits in the driver's seat.

"Outside. Now." He grits jumping out of the car and slamming the door. I send a quick glance back at Danny to find her still asleep. With that, I slide out of the car shutting the door gently behind me.

"Kol, you're overreacting," I state watching him pace like a caged animal back and forth in front of the jeep. The headlights create a spotlight on him as he mutters nonsense to himself. It would almost be funny if he didn't look so angry.

"I'm overreacting?" He yells in disbelief. "You're the one that went behind not only mine, but my families back to do a spell that will kill you!"

"I did it for my sister!" I yell back getting as fired up as Kol. "I thought you out of all people would understand considering you are in love with her!" Kol just laughs shaking his head.

"You are downright stupid if you think I love your sister." He snarls as I flash in front of him looking him in the eyes.

"I know you are, don't you dare lie to me Kol." I snap watching more fury build in him. "You can't accept it yet, but when Danny lives and she grows up, you'll be thanking me. Because that girl sees something in you, no one else ever will and if you give that up, you're just pathetic." I watch as he raises his hand to strike me, but he pulls it back at the last second. He growls running a hand through his hair as he turns around.

"What about my brother? Huh? What are you going to do about Niklaus?" He asks twisting back around a new challenge turning up his face. "How well do you think he's going to take it when you tell him you traded your life for your sisters?"

"I think he'll understand," I bite not believing where this is coming from. "He knows how important Danny is to me. He knows that I would and did do anything for her even if it means taking my own life. I don't regret anything."

"Yeah? What about when Danny wakes up only to find out her sister died just so she could live. What do you think that will do to her?" Kol asks walking back to me clearly not letting this go.

"It will be hard for her," I glare up at him breathing in shallow puffs. "But she's going to have you, Rebekah, Klaus, and Elijah to get her through it. She's strong; she'll make it without me." I defend myself making Kol laugh.

"That's rich! No what you did was selfish. You can't live without Danny so you're making her live without you. How fair is that?"

"Life isn't fair, Kol. I thought you out of all people would understand that and how can you say that? Who would you rather live, me or Danny?" I ask watching his eyes darken. He doesn't answer or he can't as we have a stand –off. It isn't until a sickening cough rings through the air followed by a cry that we fly to the car. Kol and I open the doors to the backseat at the same time each of us making a grab for Danny. Kol beats me to her as he drags her to him. She's crying with blood covering her hand and mouth.

"Danny, sweetheart, what is it?" Kol asks pulling her into his arms as he cradles her to his chest. Tears stain her cheeks as she screams into the night coughing yet again as more blood trails down her chin.

"We have to get her to the hospital," I say slamming the door and running around to their side.

"I'll heal her, it'll be fine." Kol grits biting into his wrist trying to feed her his blood. It doesn't work as she coughs his blood up and lets out the most painful wail I've ever heard.

"Kol!" I yell snatching her from his arms before he can blink. I start running through the trees glancing over at Kol as he keeps pace beside me. He's watching Danny nervously yelling at me to pick up the speed. I do leaving him trying to keep up behind me. Once we reach the hospital entrance we slow to a regular sprint as we barrel through the ER doors. "HELP!" Emily is behind the desk and once she sees Danny she calls for assistance. It's not a minute later that a gurney is rolled up followed by Meredith.

"Put her down," Meredith instructs as I lay Danny down on the sheet. Her blood soaks the front of her shirt as doctors start to crowd around her shoving me out.

"Meredith, what is it? What's wrong?" I ask panicking when Danny's eyes start to drift shut. "Meredith!" I shout as she looks Danny over before yelling at the doctors.

"Take her to the ICU, start pumping her full of morphine." Meredith barks as the doctors start to reel Danny down the corridor. Kol and I quickly follow until Meredith puts a hand on each of our chests. "You can't go back there. I can't work with you two distracting me. I'm sorry, but I'll come find you when I have news." She sends each of us a stern look before running down the hallway. I watch my heart dropping when Danny disappears through the doors leaving me behind.
