Chapter 21

"You get a strange feeling when you're about to leave a place, like you'll not only miss the people you love, but you'll miss the person you are now at this time and place because you'll never be this way ever again." –Anonymous

"Seriously Matt? Kate Beckinsale? That is who you would marry?" I scoff in disbelief turning my head to glare at the boy in my passenger seat. He looks completely relaxed with his hand hanging out the window as we drive down the interstate.

"What! She's hot!" He defends himself gazing at me with his tantalizing baby blues.

"Not only did you decide to kill me, thanks by the way," I scowl at him making him smile and innocently shrug his shoulders. "But you would only sleep with Sarah Michelle Geller? She's the freaking original vampire slayer!"

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Matt shakes his head looking mildly amused with me.

"She's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Matt." I deadpan turning my eyes back to the road.

"Never seen it, but I have seen I Know What You Did Last Summer." He smiles cheerfully clearly pleased with himself. I shake my head shamefully hitting a button on my steering wheel promptly hearing the doors unlock.

"You can either jump out now or I push you out later…preferably when we're over a cliff." Matt laughs out loud not taking my warning to heart, but I smirk when he hurriedly locks his door anyway.

"This game is boring, let's play something else." Kol drawls from the back. Matt visibly tenses at the original's voice.

"Why is here again?" Matt grits white knuckling his arm rest.

"I think a better question, is why are you here, mate?" Kol's head suddenly pops up in between Matt and me. I sigh wearily when Matt and Kol have a stare down, Kol seeming more amused than angry. I groan palming Kol's face before roughly shoving him back into his seat.

"You both are here because today is about Danny." I snap narrowing my eyes at both of them. "So if we could put the petty arguments aside that would be fantastic."

"What's going on?" Speak of the devil.

"Hey bud, how'd you sleep?" I ask looking in the rearview mirror at her tired face.

"Fine," she mumbles rubbing the sleep out of her eyes before taking in everything around her. "Alba, where are we?" She asks adjusting the oxygen tubes in her nose that connect to the tank down by her feet.

"We're almost out of Virginia," I grin when her eyes widen and she leans toward the window to see where we are. At the moment, we are passing through Virginia Beach giving Danny a nice view of the sandy beaches and the ocean.

"I don't understand," she says looking back at me in confusion.

"Well love," Kol speaks up snatching Danny from her seat only to set her in his lap. "We did what you Americans like to call a jail break." He smirks down at her in complete adoration. Well, well, well, it looks like the original has a heart after all.

"Alba?" Danny asks still not looking one hundred percent convinced. I look into her hope filled eyes with a smile and a nod.

"It's true. Kol and I compelled the doctors this morning. You are ours for the day!"

"Just today?" Danny questions the smile slowly falling from her face. I lift my gaze to Kol's brown ones in the mirror. He nods his head and bends down to whisper something in Danny's ear. I choose not to listen, instead giving them some privacy as I watch the beam that turns up her lips.

"But that's not all!" I sing glancing at Matt that has been patiently silent waiting for his turn. "I brought you another surprise," I nod my head at the quarterback with a smile. I watch Danny's face light up with such happiness when Matt's face appears around the seat that it makes me laugh.

"Matty!" She yells instantly launching herself forward almost landing in his arms until she's suddenly pulled back. "Kol!" She huffs smacking his hands that are secured firmly around her waist.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart; I just didn't want you to hurt yourself." He answers sweetly while sneering at Matt over Danny's head.

"I am fine, now will you please let go of me." She whines wiggling in his arms until he reluctantly obeys. I giggle softly at Kol's death glare when Danny and Matt hug then I almost have to pull the car over from my laughing fit when Matt swings Danny over the console to sit in his lap. If I wasn't here right now, Matt would be dead.

"How are you feeling Dano?" He asks with a cocky smirk that Danny is oblivious to. However, Kol's not as I hear his knuckles crack in the back.

"I'm still here," she shrugs smiling up at Matt. "I'm really happy you get to spend the day with us."

"Me too," Matt gives her a boyish grin that melts Danny's heart.

"Now where are we really going?" She jumps back to business giving Matt the puppy eyes.

"Don't even think about it." I playfully bite when Matt looks torn between me and Danny. "It's a surprise, now get back there and calm down your boyfriend." I say watching a deep crimson blush rise in Danny's cheeks.

"He's not my boyfriend," she mumbles quietly crawling back over the console with the help of Matt and Kol. As soon as Kol has her in arms reach, he brings her to him and shocks everyone in the car when he kisses her. I don't mean a light peck how's your day going kiss either; I mean a deep passionate I'm going to kick his original ass kiss.

I glance over at Matt who's picking his mouth up off the floor with a heated fire dancing in his eyes. We share a look of understanding while I ease the car to the side of the road. Of course, Kol is oblivious to this as he's still sucking face with MY little sister. I know I should be playing this cool because Kol has feelings for Danny and this was bound to happen sooner or later. But I had high hopes it was later, you know, after I was dead and buried.

"Okay that's enough!" I yell throwing open the back door while making a grab for Kol's shirt. I have him away from Danny and pinned to the car in less than a second. The racing of Danny's heart is almost deafening as she tries to catch her breath. "Seriously, Kol?" I glare watching a smug smile light up his face.

"What's the matter, darling? I don't believe I was doing anything wrong." He purrs making me clench my jaw. "I was just acting on the feelings you so boldly pointed out to me the night before last."

"Keep talking and there will be one less person in this vehicle." I snap pushing him roughly away from me. I hate when people use my words against me.

"Finally!" Kol yells throwing his hands in the air. "I thought we were never going to eat that quarterback." He smirks enjoying himself. However, I'm the one that gets the last laugh as Matt's fist comes out of nowhere and connects with the original's face.

"Not bad," I compliment the all American boy who is coddling his hand while Kol's face pinches up in anger. In a flash, I'm standing between the two men. "Matt, go sit down and find something to put on your hand." I demand keeping my eyes on Kol who is watching Matt leave like a hawk.

"He just signed his death certificate." Kol snarls clearly not a fan of being on the receiving end of punches.

"Don't be melodramatic," I roll my eyes, "you deserved it. But next time you kiss my sister like that I better be dead." I eye him before clapping him on the back and heading for the driver's seat.

"Alba, wait," Kol says reaching out and snatching my wrist to keep me from going any farther. He looks completely serious and for a minute I think he's going to admit something profound. He looks towards Matt in the front seat before turning brown eyes on me. "When the spell is complete, there will be no one to stop me from snapping his neck." Kol smiles out of spite, letting his anger get the best of him, as he releases my wrist.

"Are you sure about that?" I ask letting my eyes drift to Danny in the backseat. She's watching us through worried eyes while talking to Matt.

"I'm so sorry Matt. I didn't mean to upset you and Alba. But Kol is not a bad guy, I promise." I smile when Matt just gives her a look and Kol snorts beside me. "Okay he is bad, but he's nice to me. And I would really appreciate it if you would give him a chance, at least for today." I watch Kol's and Matt's eyes instantaneously soften at her words. Danny will run country's one day, I'm not even exaggerating.

"Fine."

"Fine." Matt and Kol say at the same time. "I'll spare the boy, but only for Danny." Kol mutters begrudgingly as he trudges back to the car. He slips in beside Danny wrapping a protective arm around her waist and pulling her to him.

I sigh jumping into the front seat. I look in the rearview mirror to give Danny a comforting nod as she lets out a breath in relief. Kol and Matt don't say a word as I pull back onto the highway. Both are keeping their promise to Danny in their own way.

Rebekah POV

I don't know which is more infuriating. The fact that my mother took over my body and daggered me or that I'm cleaning up after the dance I didn't even get to go to because of said mother. At this point, it's a toss-up. I throw another empty plastic cup in the trash as my phone rings.

"Hello," I answer distractedly while stuffing streamers and cardboard stars into the trash bag. Where the hell is the rest of my clean-up committee?

"Hey Rebekah, its Matt," I instantly perk up at the sound of Matt's deep voice. "I just wanted to let you know I won't be able to make it to the dance clean-up."

"Why?" I ask sulking over to the refreshments table. Stale food and spiked punch await me. I'm waiting for his answer when I hear voices in the background.

"Tell her Elena needed you. That would surely put her knickers in a twist." I hear Kol snicker in the back.

"Kol! Be nice! Tell Rebekah I said hi!" Danny yells cheerfully making me smile.

"Tell her you and Caroline got back together." I hear Alba snort in laughter as Kol soon follows.

"I can hear you!" I yell kicking a lone chair watching as it hits the wall and splinters into a hundred pieces.

"Give me the phone." I hear shuffling before Alba's voice takes over the receiver. "Rebekah I asked you this morning if you wanted to go and you said you had clean-up. Don't be angry."

"You never said Matt was going!" I pout throwing my bag down.

"She can be such a princess." Kol remarks in the background fueling my anger.

"Kol, you have something on your face."

"Where?" Kol asks no doubt touching his face for the offending crumb.

"Do you need my mirror?" I hear Danny ask playfully as I bite my lip to keep from laughing. I'm still mad.

"Yes!"

"Kol, don't be such a princess." Alba mocks as I hear Matt and Danny start to giggle. I do the same covering my mouth, instantly, wishing I had taken Alba up on her offer to go.

"How did you even get Matt to agree to go?" I ask curiously resuming my job as housekeeper.

"I told him to come with me if he wanted to live. Shockingly, he didn't find it as funny as I did." I can hear the smirk in her voice as I turn my lips up to match it.

"Very clever," I laugh perking my ears up when I hear a car door slam. I groan, "Caroline just got here."

"And that's my cue to leave." Alba chuckles. "Later Beks."

"Ah, Ah, don't you dare think about hanging up on me." I tsk planting a hand on my hip. "Tell me, why did my brother come into my room at the most ungodly hour this morning and demand I tell him where you were?" I ask remembering Klaus's brazen entrance into my room. "He took my door off the hinges, Alba."

"Rebekah, do you know what people love most about me?" Alba asks making me roll my eyes.

"Your amazing people skills," I sigh hearing her light laughter.

"My mystery," she taunts before the dial tone fills my ear.

"Damn that girl," I hiss shaking my head.

"Hello?" Caroline calls as I dutifully ignore her walking around the room. However, she finds me. "Where's Matt?"

"He bailed. Got called into work at the last-minute," I lie twisting around to face the bottle blond.

"Are you kidding me? So, it's just us?" She whines crossing her arms looking around at the mess. Petty little thing.

"Yes, and you're late. Clean up committee started at eight o'clock." I say breezing past her towards the door.

"It's like 8:02," Caroline retorts turning so she can watch me clean.

"Exactly. I managed to show up on time and I didn't even get to attend the dance I organized." I mope dumping the contents of my trash into the bin.

"I'm sorry about your mom." Caroline surprises me by saying as I glance up at her. She actually looks quite pathetic with her soulful eyes. "I mean I know you like, hated her and everything, but still….I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry about your teacher." I finally say sucking up my pride. "He seemed like a nice guy."

"Yeah, he was." She frowns looking down at her feet. I can see she's still in pain over his death, but we're all dealing with something.

"I'm gonna get started on the gym." I tell her after a moment of silence. I quickly walk out of the cafeteria and down the hall. The clack of my heels is the only sound in the otherwise silent school as I round the corner to find Alaric in the flesh. I come to an abrupt halt as the blood rushes from my face.

"You're supposed to be dead." I glare looking the man up and down. He may look the same on the outside, but I can feel the darkness that surrounds him.

"I am." He taunts, just as I make a split second decision. I rush at him hoping to catch him off guard, but he shocks me when he throws me up against the lockers. I struggle under his vice grip, my eyes widening when he pulls the white oak stake out of his jacket. I can see the pure pleasure he's getting out of this as he makes a move to drive the stake through my heart. However, Caroline comes out of nowhere shoving Alaric off of me and into the lockers. This gives me enough time to stab him in the heart with the stake.

I watch in horror as he doesn't desiccate like I initially thought he would. No he groans slowly pulling the stake from his chest. Caroline and I share matching expressions of fear as we make a run for it. I manage to make it to the edge of the woods before I turn around just in time to witness Alaric slamming Caroline's head into her car. She's instantly rendered unconscious while he drags her back into the school smoking and sizzling the whole way.

Klaus POV

I move around the room stuffing my paintings into boxes. I've gotten nearly half the house packed; just a few more rooms and I'll be done. Then I'm taking my doppelgänger and getting the hell out of this town.

"Klaus!" Rebekah screams causing a slight groan to leave my chest. What is it now? I don't say a word as I wait for her to find me and it doesn't take her long. "Alaric Saltzman just tried to kill me!" She yells running into the room.

"Alaric Saltzman is supposed to be dead." I grit flashing my eyes up to meet hers. She doesn't hide her fear well as I gaze at her.

"Well, he's not and he's a vampire thanks to mother's spell with a white oak stake that can't kill him. He's strong, Nic. Too strong." Rebekah answers looking around at the mess that still needs to be packed away into boxes.

"Where is he now?" I ask shoving more of my belongings into a corner. If Alaric is as powerful as Rebekah leads him to be, we have a problem.

"He's stuck at the school without a daylight ring, but as soon as night falls he'll come after us. We need to leave now." Rebekah says tears pooling in her eyes. I sigh nodding my head at her urgency.

"Fine. I'll collect Elena; we'll be on our way." I answer curtly picking up a pile of papers only to have a drawing of Alba fall to the floor. I watch as it floats almost tauntingly through the air until it lands smoothly on the ground.

"Forget Elena!" Rebekah screams as I bend down to retrieve the drawing. It's one I drew just this morning with Alba sleeping on her stomach. Her arms are tucked under the pillow with the sheets leaving her shoulder and back bare. She looks glorious with her midnight black hair falling in her face. It sends a pang of longing through me, but the betrayal burns so much brighter. "You don't need any more stupid hybrids!"

"What I need is protection from Ester's continued assaults against us." I snap climbing to my feet. I fold the drawing and tuck it safely in my back pocket.

"We'll protect each other! Just like we always have and now we have Alba to keep us safe. Always and forever, Nic." Rebekah nods her head a smile tugging at her lips. I just shake my head brushing past her to the door.

"Alba isn't coming with us. We lived without her for a thousand years, we'll do it again." I snap glaring at Rebekah. "And I'm not leaving without Elena." I turn away from her roughly grabbing a priceless artifact that instantly snaps in my hands. I growl angrily throwing it across the room in a fit of rage.

"You're just going to leave Alba here, is that it?" Rebekah cries, "I don't know what she did, but I can tell you right now we can't live without her. You can't live without her. So you can either walk out that door with me or you are on your own." Rebekah says quietly anguish in her voice as tears fall down her face. I just stare at her wondering why everyone decides to leave me in the end. It's this feeling, this feeling of loneliness that has me refusing to answer her. "Fine, trust your hybrids over your family. Let your spite be the death of you, see if I care." Rebekah grits more tears falling down her cheeks as she storms out of the room.

I close my eyes a lone tear escaping down my cheek when the front door slams shut with finality. It's in this moment that I lose it.

Alba POV

"I'm just saying if I had to be locked in a room with two guys; it would be Sam and Dean. Hands down," I nod over at Matt who is thinking hard in his seat. We just passed the North Carolina state line. If we keep up this pace we'll be there in no time.

"I wouldn't mind being locked in a room Channing Tatum and Kol." Danny pipes up from the back. I glance at her in the rearview mirror to find that she's snuggled into Kol's chest as the two are laid across the backseat. She looks good in her navy blue dress, black flats, and black beanie. I grin when I see that Kol has even wrapped her up in one of his jackets.

"Well, we wouldn't have to worry about that Chubby Tater for long." Kol drawls surprising us all considering we thought he was sleeping. He pops open one brown eye with a devilish smirk at Danny. "I don't share, sweetheart."

"Okay I got it!" Matt snaps his fingers looking to me proudly. "Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey!"

"That's some caviar taste you have there," I laugh making Matt's grin widen.

"Only the finest OG's for me." He teases making me laugh even harder. Despite, the rocky start this trip got off to, it's actually proving to be the perfect distraction. At least it is until my cell phone starts ringing. I see Rebekah's name on the caller ID as a sudden chill creeps down my spine.

"What's wrong?" I ask the feeling in my gut only growing stronger when I hear Rebekah's sniffles.

"Alaric tried to kill me this morning," As the words are tumbling out of her mouth, I'm taking the next exit into an unknown town. "He's so strong Alba. Maybe even stronger than Mikael," she cries sounding shaken to the core.

"Where are you now?" I ask pulling into a Burger Barn parking lot.

"I'm on my way out of Mystic Falls. I tried to get Klaus to leave with me, but he wouldn't. He won't leave until he has his precious doppelganger. Bloody fool!" She screams while I catch the faint sounds of crashing in the background. I clench my jaw as I think about what this means. I can't just leave Klaus behind, not when he's in danger, I won't.

"Rebekah, we're about an hour out of Mystic Falls, if you drive fast. We're in a little town off the main highway called Aurora. Call me when you're close." I say hanging up the phone and bringing it to my lips in thought. I can feel Matt and Danny's eyes staring at me curiously, but Kol is the first to speak up.

"You're going back, aren't you?" He asks looking casual as ever in the backseat. I sigh turning around to see Danny.

"Yeah," I smile apologetically toughing through the disappointment on Danny's face. "It seems they need me back home."

"What is it?" Matt asks worry etched onto his perfect features. "Is it Elena?" His voice chokes up at the end as he assumes the worst.

"Not everything in Mystic Falls is about Elena Gilbert." Kol bites, his voice holding so much disgust when he says Elena's name that it makes me smile. Matt merely glares at him before turning hard eyes on me.

"I'm going back with you." He states stubbornly making me shake my head.

"No you're not."

"Yes, I am."

"No."

"Yes."

"Maybe we all should go back?" Danny sighs interrupting Matt and I's pissing contest. She tries to smile reassuringly, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes. "It's okay, Alba, we can go see your surprise another time."

"Matt, can I talk to you outside?" I ask giving Danny a small smile before I step out of the car. Matt meets me at the back of the vehicle away from Danny's prying eyes. "You get that we can't do this another time, don't you?" I ask watching as his face drops.

"What's going on back home?" He pesters clearly not letting it go until I tell him.

"Alaric is alive and on the hunt for original blood. He won't stop until he gets it and it's up to me to put him down." I cross my arms thinking about how to go about this.

"You can't just kill him," Matt hisses in anger causing me to raise an eyebrow in disbelief.

"You do realize that he's already dead, right?" I look him into his grief-stricken face, my eyes softening when I realize how hard this must be for him. "Listen, I'm sorry Matt, but if there's another way I'll find it, okay? Maybe I won't have to kill him." Lies. He has to die.

"You don't have to lie to me. I know you have to kill him." Matt crosses his arms, unshed tears welling in his eyes. He's trying to be strong, but I think he's been strong for far too long.

"I'm sorry Matt," I whisper surprising both of us when I hesitantly pull him into a hug. I won't lie, it's really awkward at first, but after a second or two we both relax. I don't know how long we stand there, but it's long enough for Matt to trust me to be strong for him.

3rd POV

"What do you mean he turned? I thought you were standing guard?" Stefan questions accusingly as he hands Bonnie a towel for her neck. Damon, Stefan, and Bonnie are standing in the Gilbert's kitchen after Damon showed up with a bleeding Bonnie this morning.

"Don't blame me. Blame Bonnie, the blood bank, she fed him." Damon defends holding up his hands innocently.

"I had no idea what was happening! Okay! The witches led me there. They wanted him to feed so he turned." Bonnie yells looking between Stefan and Damon apologetically. She's still in last night's costume making her look even more pathetic.

"So, where's the stake now?" Stefan asks placing his hand on the back of Bonnie's chair. He's staring between the other two in the room expectantly waiting for an answer.

"Oh, you mean the white oak stake? The one that can kill an Original and wipe out an entire line of vampires?" Damon asks sarcastically glaring at Bonnie, "We don't know."

"If you are so upset with me, why did you feed me your blood to save my life?" Bonnie fires back narrowing her eyes into slits. Agitation seeps off of the small girl as she would rather be anywhere else, but with these two.

"Because I do stupid things, Bonnie," Damon yells like it's the most obvious thing in the world. "I do things, like let my friend die with dignity when I should have just killed him." Damon snarls pushing up from his chair with a shake of his dark head of hair.

"Alright, so how do we kill him now?" Stefan sighs leaning his back against the counter. All of them are exhausted of having to think of ways to kill one of their best friends.

"I've been trying to figure that out. A witch can't truly make an immortal creäture, there is always a way to undo a spell." Bonnie informs the Salvatore's looking down at her hands in thought.

"So, what's the witchy work around?" Damon asks curious.

"That's the problem. I don't know." Bonnie sighs leaning back in her chair. "But I think I know someone who might be able to help us." She pauses rubbing the spot where Alaric had savagely ripped into her.

"Well!" Damon snaps his fingers looking arrogant as ever. "Don't keep us in suspense." Bonnie merely glares at the eldest Salvatore's need to boss her around.

"Alba. She's the original guardian meaning it's her destiny to protect the originals. Just like its Alaric's mission to kill them. If anyone will know how to truly kill Alaric, it will be Alba." Bonnie reasons watching Stefan and Damon closely. Stefan is staring at something in the distance with a thoughtful expression on his face while Damon is shaking his head back and forth so fast, it's giving Bonnie whiplash.

"No way. Absolutely freaking not." Damon glares at Bonnie for even suggesting it. "It's too dangerous. He'll kill her."

"Damon," Stefan speaks up turning his head to stare at his older brother sadly. "We are out of options. Alba is literally our last hope." Stefan's eyes are full of sorrow as Damon's are quickly filling with rage.

"What is this?" Damon growls, "You two didn't get your kicks out of leaving her with a group of torturous witches so you're going to send her up against someone made to destroy her?"

"What makes you so sure Alaric is going to kill Alba, Damon?" Bonnie snaps glaring at Damon with pure hatred in her eyes. "Do you really have such little faith in her?"

"Since when do you have so much faith in her!?" Damon yells rushing forward and slamming his hands violently on the table in front of Bonnie. He watches in satisfaction as she reels back in fright before collecting herself and lifting her hands to fry his ass.

"What the hell do you want?" Jeremy shouts drawing everyone's attention to the front door. None of them even heard the front door ring.

"Now is that any way to treat a guest?" Klaus asks eyeing the young Gilbert boy in anger when Stefan comes to the door.

"What are you doing here, Klaus?" Stefan questions wearily eyeing Klaus with cold eyes.

"Well, for starters, young Jeremy here could show some manners and invite me inside." Klaus smiles menacingly at the youngest Gilbert as Stefan takes a protective step in front of him.

"Why don't you go up to your room?" Stefan turns nodding towards the stairs.

"Now." Damon barks joining their little party with a death glare at Jeremy. Jeremy huffs in annoyance before jogging up the stairs and out of sight.

"Hm, poor lad, loses one questionable father figure only to be replaced by the likes of the two of you." Klaus speculates with a wry grin in amusement. Damon and Stefan only glare at the original, neither willing to admit, they agree with him.

"Yeah, about that," Damon laughs humorlessly, "something happened."

"Oh, I know all about my mother's invulnerable little creation and that's why I'm here. I'm leaving town, just need to pick up a few road trip necessities. Spare tire, flashlight, doppelgänger." Klaus smirks on the last part watching the boy's with dangerous eyes.

"Can't help you there." Damon smiles clasping Stefan on the shoulder before slamming the door in the hybrid's face. Damon flashes into the living room looking for Elena while Stefan runs to the stairs.

"Elena!"

Klaus POV

I stare at the door in shock. Did they really just slam the door in my face? Surely they don't have a death wish, but then again they have tried on multiple occasions to kill me. With that thought, I walk to the windows looking inside for any sign of my doppelgänger. I growl in frustration when I don't spot her as I storm off the porch.

If those fools think I'll leave that easily they are sadly mistaken. They picked a bad day to mess with me. I look around the yard for anything I can use to send them a little message. I smirk when I pick up a rolled up newspaper. But just what to do with it? I glare at the two-story house while I walk from one end of the tiny yard to the other. I can hear them frantically moving around inside when I spot Damon Salvatore's eyes peeking out from behind the blinds.

"Klaus wants in; we have to keep him out." I hear Damon tell the others just as I cock my arm back and throw the newspaper. I watch in satisfaction as it crashes through the window only missing Damon by a few inches. I continue to pace getting angrier every second they don't open that door.

"I think you're probably gonna want to let me in!" I yell looking away from the house to find the neighbor's white picket fence. I cock an eyebrow as I cross the street and rest my hands against the wood. I glance up at the house only to hear silence coming from inside. Well, you know what they say, if you can't beat them. Kill them.

3rd POV

"Elena's car is gone." Stefan sighs walking back into the kitchen not putting anyone's mind at ease.

"Why wouldn't she tell anyone where she was going?" Bonnie asks panicking as she looks between Stefan, Damon, and Jeremy. However, it's this exact moment that the front door is ripped off its hinges by a flying soccer ball that nearly takes off Bonnie's head. Damon pulls her out-of-the-way, just in time, to see Klaus ascending the steps with pieces of a picket fence in his hands. Without hesitation, Klaus hurls one of the pickets inside the house narrowly missing Damon's shoulder.

"Missed me!" Damon snarks tearing the piece of wood from the wall and firing it back at the original. Klaus easily dodges it as he snaps his last picket in half. He throws it shattering a picture frame instead.

"Missed me again!" Damon taunts playing with fire as Stefan's phone rings. He looks at it with a blank expression before picking it up.

"Alaric."

Klaus wasn't playing games anymore as he walked up the Gilbert porch steps with a propane tank and a newspaper torch. He would burn down the entire house if it meant getting Elena.

"Put it out." Stefan sighs walking up to the door.

"Come outside and make me." Klaus challenges the vampire as Stefan nods taking a step outside.

"Elena's not here." Stefan begins watching as Klaus puts out the newspaper torch. "Alaric has her and Caroline and he's gonna kill them both unless-"

"Unless I hand myself over to him?" Klaus bites throwing the newspaper and propane tank down.

"Not you," Stefan answers sadly glancing over Klaus's shoulder. "Her." Klaus glares at Stefan as he turns around to find no one other than Alba.

Alba POV

I watch Klaus closely through my ray bans. His expression changes from one of anger, to sadness, to happiness, then back to anger. I cross my arms cocking my head to the side as I stare at the two men. I heard everything Stefan said, Alaric wants me and he's going to get me.

"Are you going to come greet us, love, or do you have somewhere to be?" Klaus smirks leaning against one of the pillars. He lacks his usual playful spark as I take off my ray bans with a small chuckle.

"But of course," I grin walking up the porch steps leaning in to give Stefan a peck on the cheek. "Hi Stefan."

"Hello Alba," he smiles amused with my antics.

"Well what do we have here?" My eyes stray to the door where Damon is standing with a part of a picket fence relaxing over his shoulder. I'm not going to ask. "What do you want?" Damon asks curtly, his body language screaming that he wants me to leave. That makes two of us.

"I want a lot of things Damon," I smirk placing my ray bans on the front of my white V-neck. "But it seems I have work to do. Did Alaric say what he wanted with me?" I ask Stefan getting right to business.

"No he just said he'll give us the girls if you turn yourself over to him." Stefan answers solemnly his guilt eating away at him.

"What I don't get is if he's so determined to wipe the earth of the originals, why wouldn't he ask for Klaus?" Damon asks dropping the picket uselessly to the ground.

"Because he knows that I wouldn't let Klaus go," I sigh leaning against the pillar opposite Klaus. I can feel his eyes on me and it's almost enough to make me squirm. But I can't let him know he's affecting me. It would ruin everything. "I'm the only thing standing between him and them." I nod toward Klaus trying my best to ignore the pain in my chest. I'm Alba Martinez, I don't feel loss.

"She's the glue that holds them together," Bonnie says suddenly appearing behind Damon. She looks like hell in the outfit she wore from last night, but it only adds to her determination. "If Alaric can break the glue…"

"The rest will fall," Stefan nods in understanding glancing at me. I shrug looking down at my black high tops. I don't think anyone knows how much I'd rather be with Danny right now.

"We do not fall." Klaus grits angrily from beside me. I lift my gaze to his to find him focused on Bonnie. "We do not depend on Alba and we sure as hell do not care if she dies." He turns his heated gaze on me. In his eyes, I see just how much I hurt him and I realize I won't ever be able to take it back.

"You heard the man," I say pushing off from the pole. I turn to find Bonnie and Stefan watching me closely while Damon is murdering Klaus with his eyes. "I'll go to the school and get Caroline and Elena. You guys," I point to Stefan and Damon, "be ready outside. When you see them running, you grab them and get somewhere safe. You'll know by nightfall if I've succeeded in killing him." I tell them watching Damon's face pinch up in an unattractive way.

"That is a horrible idea." He remarks looking at me like I'm crazy. "He'll kill you, doesn't anyone else see that!" I chuckle shaking my head.

"Possibly, but at least your precious Elena will be safe." I mock smiling even wider when Damon punches a hole through the side of the house.

"Do you have a plan?" Bonnie asks stepping forward to face me.

"Fight. That is my plan." I say glancing over Bonnie's shoulder when Damon lets out a snort.

"That's not good enough. Listen I might have an idea. My mom used a desiccation spell on Mikael that immobilized him for over 15 years. If I can get it, I might be able to use it on Alaric." Bonnie proposes making me look at her seriously.

"If and might? You're words inspire such confidence." Klaus scoffs annoying the shit out of me.

"At least she has an idea." I snap glaring him down. His lips pucker in annoyance when he finally turns to me.

"I'll get it. But even with the spell, we'll need a lot of vampire muscle to take him down. Including yours." Bonnie hisses crossing her arms. I watch as Klaus breaks his gaze from mine and looks out towards the sun.

"Just so we're clear, the sun sets in about eight hours. If we don't succeed before then, Elena will be dead, I'll be gone, and the rest of you will be left to fend for yourselves." Klaus snarls looking back at the rest of us.

"Sounds like a plan to me. I'll meet you all at the high school in an hour." I say before flashing off the Gilbert's porch. I don't even make it a block from their house before I'm being roughly pushed into an ally.

"You didn't think I'd let you go that easily, did you?" Klaus smooth British accent breaks the silence as he pins me against the brick wall. One of his hands holds both of my wrists over my head while his other hand rests lightly against my hip.

"A girl can hope," I smile humorlessly refusing to wince when Klaus's grip tightens on my skin. "Listen, I like it rough, but now is not the time to get kinky," I smirk watching Klaus's lips turn up in a less than amused smile as he takes a step back releasing me.

"So we're back to the witty comebacks and humorous quips now? Is that what we are doing?" He asks looking me over with a shake of his blond curls. "What are you doing, Alba?" I raise an eyebrow straightening out my hooded leather jacket.

"I'm doing what I do best, Klaus." I smile putting my hands behind my back as I rest against the brick wall. It's a lot more comfortable when I don't have a hybrid lurking over the top of me. "I'm going to fight. I'm going to save the doppelgänger you are so hell-bent on having while I make sure nothing happens to the girl you secretly have the hots for." I say narrowing my eyes when Klaus laughs, actually laughs, like I just said the funniest thing in the world.

"Wait, this is about Caroline? That whole scene this morning was over the Forbes girl?" Klaus just stares at me in awe. "Wow, I pegged you for many things Alba, but petty was not one of them." In a flash, I have him thrown up against the wall with my hand wrapped around his neck. It doesn't last long though as he grabs my wrist and spins me around so my chest is flat against the opposite wall. He has my hands bound securely behind me rendering them useless. "Calm down, love, we don't want to do anything we'll regret." Klaus whispers making me grit my teeth. In a last-ditch effort, I throw my head back making contact with his face momentarily stunning him. This gives me enough time to knee him in the gut before I punch him in the face.

He doesn't fall to his knees like I hoped he might, but instead rushes at me to which I sidestep him grabbing the back of his head and slamming his face into the wall. I take a breath thinking I've finally gotten him when I'm suddenly flipped onto my back. I land on the concrete with a groan as the air is knocked out of my lungs. Klaus wastes no time jumping on top of me while he holds my hands on either side of my head. I clench my jaw refusing to look at him as I stare at the dirty ally way wall.

"Look at me, love." Klaus breathes sounding almost out of breath, but that's impossible. He's a hybrid, he's not breathing heavily because he overexerted himself, but because he's feeling emotion.

"Go to hell," I bite my own chest beginning to tighten. Why can't he just leave me alone like everyone else does?

"Look. At. Me." Klaus enunciates each word with vigor as I stubbornly shake my head. "Alba…please." Klaus pleads releasing one of my wrists as he softly brings his hand to the side of my cheek. I don't have it in me to fight him as he turns my head to face him. I know he sees the tears that are begrudgingly pooling in my eyes just like I know he sees my lip trembling. "Alba."

"Can we please not talk, okay? I get it, I hurt you Klaus and I will never forgive myself for it." I take a shaky breath a tear slipping down my cheek. "But there are things I have to do, things that you won't understand and I'm trying to protect you." I shake my head more tears falling out of my eyes as I start to get frustrated.

"Protect me from what, love? What won't I understand?" Klaus asks seriously only making me weep a little harder. I knew I should have stayed away from him. I can't say anything because of the lump in my throat, but I do have full control over my body. So before I can talk myself out of it, I grab the hand that is caressing my cheek while pulling my hand free of his grasp. In an instant, I have him shoved off me and onto his butt. He looks at me anger seeping back into his features as I fall to my knees straddling his hips.

"From me," I breathe grabbing his face in between my hands, "I need to protect you from me." And with that I crash my lips to his. I know it's only been a few hours since the last time I was able to taste his lips, but I latch on greedily. I can feel the difference between us and by the way Klaus is desperately pulling me to him deepening the kiss, I know he feels it too. This is the last time him and I will be together, this is the last time I'll get to feel him like this, and the last time he'll be mine.

"Alba." Klaus pulls away all too soon with both of us panting hard. "What does this mean?" He asks so quietly I almost don't hear him. I sigh resting my forehead against his as I run my fingers through his curls.

"Do you trust me?" I ask gazing into his baby blues. I can see the internal war waging in his mind while he tries hard to figure me out. Eventually, he just gives in.

"Yes." He nods pulling me harder against him. I smile leaning down to give him a soft kiss on the lips.

"Close your eyes," I whisper instantly causing a reaction out of him. His body tenses while he wraps his arms all the way around me. Yet he doesn't shut his eyes. "Klaus."

"Promise me something." He says looking up at me like the first morning after we slept together. With his eyes holding the same miniscule hint of vulnerability that terrifies me. I simply nod still running my fingers through his hair. "Promise me when this is all said and done that you'll come with me and let me show you the world."

"Klaus," I sigh shaking my head as he pulls me down for a kiss. It's captivating and enchanting as always sending shivers down my spine. I pull away slowly opening my eyes to find his are still closed. I look over his face so willing and sad that it tears me apart. I take a deep breath pushing down all the potentially damaging feelings as I bend down gently placing my lips to his.

"I promise." I whisper before flashing away not stopping until I'm safely in my room. I run a hand through my hair trying to breathe. It feels like someone has punched me repeatedly in my stomach and I hate it. I don't get these feelings and I wish it would just stop! However, it seems someone was listening somewhere because as soon as the thought crosses my mind my head is making contact with the wall and I'm spiraling into oblivion.

Danny POV

"Matt you drive like you look. Slow." Kol groans sitting next to me. I quickly swat him on the arm as I give him a reprimanding look.

"Kol, shut up before I tear out your larynx," Rebekah threatens from the front seat as she flips through a magazine. Kol simply rolls his eyes looking out the window. It's silent as we continue to drive. Matt hasn't said much, only talking when he's spoken to.

"Where are we going?" I ask hoping someone will take mercy on me and just tell me.

"You can keep asking, sweetheart, but no one's going to tell you." Kol sighs lulling his beautiful head to look at me. I hum in response quickly looking between Matt and Rebekah to find them doing their own thing.

"Kol," I whisper biting my lip wondering if this really works. I almost laugh when his eyes zone in on my lips before flashing up to lock me in a heated gaze. "Where are we going?" I ask sweet as pie leaning up in his arms so I'm rubbing my nose affectionately against his. Eskimo kisses are a go!

"Danny," Kol purrs cupping my cheek in one of his hands as he bends down his lips inches from my own. My breath hitches in response as my body unknowingly arches into him. "I'm. Not. Telling. You." He smirks lightly pecking me on the lips before tucking me into the crook of his arm.

"Nice try, Danny. But Kol's harder to pry information out of than Alba is." Rebekah smiles back at me. I can tell she's a little bummed about Matt rejecting her advances, but everyone's being very cordial and I'm thinking Alba threatened them before she left.

"Hey, have you heard anything from Alba?" I ask hopefully, still curious what could have her running out half way through our trip. I catch the way Matt's hand tightens around the steering wheel as he looks to Rebekah.

"No I haven't heard anything yet." She swallows on a shaky breath before turning around in her seat. I frown adjusting the tubes in my nose suddenly anxious for more oxygen. I haven't told anyone, but I've been secretly turning the knob for hours releasing more air into my lungs. The more time that passes the harder it gets for me to breathe and I have a feeling this is literally my last day with Kol and Matt and Rebekah.

"Hey let's play a game!" I suggest trying to perk everyone up. It's been a dreary hour in here.

"Okay," Matt pipes up surprising me immensely. "How about I-spy?" He asks glancing back at me with a grin.

"Oh a classic!" I beam resting my head on Kol's shoulder. "You go first." I yawn.

"Alright, I spy something with my eye that is blue." Matt grins at Rebekah as they share a secretive glance.

"I spy something with my eye that is white." Rebekah adds closing her magazine and throwing it to the floor.

"I spy something with my eye that is big…oh and brown." Kol smiles cheekily making me look between the three of them in confusion.

"What are we spying?" I ask looking out the window only seeing plain Jane cars and little restaurants. Kol chuckles swooping me into his arms before placing me in the center console. He points at something out the front window.

"That is what we are spying," he answers rubbing my back as I gap. My jaw drops to the floor as my eyes bug out of my head. I can't move or think for that matter as I just stare.

"Oh my god, I think she's speechless." Rebekah giggles causing Matt to laugh as he pulls into the empty parking lot.

"Someone alert the media," he chirps parking the car near the entrance. I feel all their eyes on me as they watch my reaction in amusement.

"Is that…"

"Welcome to Disneyland, love." Kol grins, his head popping up beside me as he gives me a kiss on the cheek. "The happiest place on earth."

Damon POV

The ride to the school is silent. Bonnie is playing on her phone doing a piss poor job of distracting me from my thoughts. Abby, ever the helpful little ex-witch, informed us that, in order, to stop Alaric's heart Bonnie will have to kill a human. Not something I have a problem with, but Jeremy is adamant that he be the sacrificial lamb.

"Are you sure you have enough juice to bring Gilbert back?" I ask glancing at Bonnie seriously. If there is even a doubt in her mind about the situation we are not using Jeremy. Elena can't afford to lose someone else she loves.

"I'm sure." Bonnie bites jumping on her high horse for a spin. "You just make sure Alba is ready when the time comes."

"Yeah, about Alba…" I drawl like a kid that's just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "She's not coming." I don't have to look at Bonnie to know she's wearing a dumbfounded expression.

"What do you mean she's not coming, Damon? We need her!" Bonnie yells finally putting her phone down so her attention is focused solely on me. Joy.

"I mean that she had a little spill and is resting comfortably in her bed. Klaus will just have to do the desiccation spell." I shrug pulling into the school parking lot.

"Are you serious? You choose today to play the protective father!?" Bonnie sits back incredulous. "It wasn't even a day ago that you were plotting her death for almost killing Elena!"

"Things change," I grit glaring at the Bennett witch beside me. "And as far as everyone else is concerned, she isn't coming. So untwist your panties and let's go bag us a teacher." I bite climbing out of the car. I spot Jeremy waiting on a bench just outside the school's entrance. I make my way over to him with Bonnie in tow.

"I just got this." Bonnie captures my attention when she thrusts her phone towards me. "It connects me to Caroline and Elena through our phones." She says curtly looking down at the device. Ah so that's what she was doing on the way here. "They're in Alaric's classroom. You should go in from the south entrance." I look from her phone to her in amusement.

"Digital locator spell. Why the hell do we need you then?" I smirk resisting the urge to roll my eyes when Bonnie glares at me. I stop in front of Jeremy holding my hand out expectantly. "Hand it over."

"I'm not giving you my ring." Jeremy defends jumping up from the picnic table. "Let me do this."

"By my math, you've already bit it once, this will be twice, wearing that thing and if for some reason, Bonnie can't restart your heart and you do indeed die, then before you know it, we have another psycho alter ego case on our hands, which is bad so give me the ring." I command flexing my fingers in a give-me motion. No way in hell will I deal with this situation twice.

"This is my ring, Elena's my sister. No one's gonna fight harder for her than me." Jeremy states pig-headed using up all of my patience.

"Fine. Be stubborn." I turn to Bonnie directing this last bit at her. "Try not to kill him, will you?" I shake my head taking a step back when Klaus and Stefan walk up.

"Look at this, one big, happy family." Klaus smirks before he does a proper count of how many of us are actually here. "Hmm we seem to be missing one." He glares as Bonnie looks to me causing the original's gaze to zero in on me as well.

"Yeah, Alba is a little tied up at the moment. We'll just have to handle this without her." A familiar breeze hits me in the face as Klaus appears in front of me.

"What did you do?" He snarls watching me through hooded eyes. Someone's a little cranky today.

"I'm protecting what's ours." I answer so low only Klaus and I are able to hear. He watches me for a moment longer trying to find the sincerity in my words. He must find something because he smirks and takes a step back.

"Here, drink this." Bonnie interrupts the silence handing me a vial of what I can only assume is blood. "It's my blood. It bridges us all together so that when I stop Jeremy's heart, you'll have the power to stop Alaric's. You need to make a physical connection to his bloodstream; a vein, artery, something connected to his heart." Bonnie explains as I take a swig passing the vial to Stefan. I forgot how sweet witches blood taste.

"If one of us gets a clean shot, take it, the other two: hold him down." Stefan runs over the game plan one last time as he takes a drink. He passes it to Klaus, who of course, can't do anything without threatening someone.

"Before we all walk through these doors, let's get on the same page, shall we? I was the one who created your vampire bloodline, therefore I am responsible for your lives and Tyler's life, Caroline's life, and of course, Abby's life, should anything go wrong." He smiles enjoying the rise he's getting out of us. He's lying, there is no way in hell he created our bloodline.

"Or you're lying to save your ass." I voice watching as his smile widens.

"I'm not lying. But go ahead, call my bluff, let the teacher kill me. You'll all be dead soon thereafter." With that he takes the last of the blood.

"Let's just get this over with, shall we?" Stefan says the disappointment evident in his voice. Klaus and I share one last look of loathing before we obediently follow Stefan into the school. Who knew a place like this could turn into a battleground.

Kol POV

I am a thousand-year old vampire swirling around in a teacup. At this point, I think I would rather be daggered and confined in a box for another century. But looking at Danny laughing and having a good time, I think I can make an exception just this once.

"Isn't this fun!?" Danny asks as the ride comes to a stop. She makes a move to stand up, but the ride must have made her dizzy because she almost collapses.

"Hey now love, let's be careful." I murmur helping her up and out of the teacup. She looks up at me with the ghost of a smile on her lips.

"I'm sorry, did I hear that correctly. Kol Mikealson is telling me to be careful?" She giggles leaning on me heavily once we start walking. Rebekah and Matt ran off an hour or two after we were let in. Alba managed to compel the park to stay closed today giving Danny free reign of what she wants to ride.

"Yes, well not everyone can be as indestructible as me." I smirk earning me a nod from Danny.

"Very true," she sighs wrapping her hand around mine. Danny barely reaches my shoulder height wise, but that doesn't stop her from resting her head against me. "Thank you for coming with me. I know this isn't really your style." She smiles happily trailing her eyes around the park.

"To be honest, love, I didn't think it was your style either." I say glancing around at all the Disney princess memorabilia.

"It's not anymore," she laughs squeezing my hand gently, "but Alba promised me when I was six that she would bring me here." Danny smiles sadly looking down at her oxygen tank, "she never breaks her promises." I lead us to a table in the shade as I sit down next to Danny.

"You love your sister, don't you?" I ask watching her intently as she doesn't hesitate to nod.

"Of course, she practically raised me. She's been there with me through it all. I don't know what I would do without her." Danny says breathing more heavily from the walking. I frown narrowing my eyes at nothing in particular.

"Do you think you could? You know if things were different and Alba was the one with cancer. Could you live without her?" I ask seriously. I've kept Alba's secret, but it's not been out of the goodness of my heart.

"I would do everything I could to save her." Danny says really thinking about this scenario.

"But if you couldn't save her, could you live without her?" I repeat gently taking Danny's chin in my hand and guiding her face to me. She looks deeply into my eyes as I see the struggle happening within her.

"It's not a matter of if I could live without her, but if I would want to." She whispers quietly making me reel back in shock.

"Please tell me you did not just say what I think you said." I hiss angrily that she would even think of something like that. She shrugs smiling over the tears I find in her eyes.

"Hey, it's not going to happen." She laughs taking my hand and wiping her face. "Come on; let's go hit up space world." I mutely follow her wondering what the hell I'm going to do about this.

Alba POV

Give me love like her,
'Cause lately I've been waking up alone,
Pain splattered teardrops on my shirt,
Told you I'd let them go,

"Hmm," I hum cozying deeper under the covers. Even the rug in Klaus's parlor is more comfortable than my own bed at home. What a rip off.

"Will you quit moving, love?" I raise an eyebrow cracking open one blue eye when I feel the feather like touches on my shoulder.

"What are you doing?" I mumble standing on the brink of sleep and reality. Like right now, I think I see Klaus lying next to me while he works diligently on my shoulder, but it could very well be a dream.

"You'll see," he smirks devilishly getting back to work. I merely grin running my eyes over his body. The sheet is covering both of us from the waist down as I relax into Klaus's touch.

And that I'll fight my corner,
Maybe tonight I'll call ya,
After my blood turns into alcohol,
No, I just wanna hold ya.

"How long was I asleep?" I ask listening to Ed Sheeran's smooth voice.

"A couple hours," Klaus remarks never taking his eyes from my skin, "you know you talk in your sleep. Tell me love, who is Alex?" He asks sending me a pointed glance. I smirk tucking a stray piece of hair behind my ear.

"Alex or Alexandria was my mother. I must have been dreaming about her." I frown curious as to why I can't remember my dream.

"Hmm, you're not just saying that, so I don't rip one of your little conquests heart out?" He grins mischievously down at me obviously in a playful mood this morning.

"What makes you think I've only had conquests? Maybe I have a lover running around here." I tease watching as Klaus stops drawing to stare down at me with serious eyes. In a flash I'm pinned between him and the floor.

"It's not nice to taunt me, sweetheart." Klaus pouts impishly though his eyes tell a different story. He doesn't know if I'm being serious or not.

"What? You're not into sharing?" I can't help myself as I cock my head to the side with a grin. It's not every day I get to ruffle the hybrid's feathers.

"Make no mistake, darling, I will not hesitate to mark you as mine." Klaus murmurs trailing kisses down my neck and along my collarbone. I close my eyes letting my head fall back at the sensation rocking my body.

"Hmm good luck with tha-fuck!" I hiss when Klaus's fangs pierce my neck. The son of bitch wasn't joking around. However, I don't dwell on it as I let out a small moan when the pain subsides almost as quickly as it came. I gasp in pleasure when Klaus tangles one hand in my hair while the other trails lightly down my bare thigh.

"Say it." Klaus mutters once he's done drinking. He licks my wound almost affectionately as it starts to close. "Say you're mine." He brings the hand that was caressing my thigh up to rest lightly against my cheek. I smirk up into his blue eyes that are so filled with desire.

"Okay," I say gripping the back of his neck and bringing him down until my mouth is level with his ear. "You're mine." I whisper my canines lengthening as I bite down on his neck. His body instantly reacts as he braces his hands on either side of my head. I barely notice the way he's grinding his hips into mine because I'm too caught up in his blood. Seriously, it's the most delicious thing I've ever tasted and I'm becoming more and more addicted by the second.

"Alba!" Klaus growls inflicting a particular hard thrust that has me pulling away with a moan. I lick my lips of the excess blood reaching up to hungrily capture Klaus's lips with my own. Our tongues battle for dominance as I run my hand through his hair and down his back. He's stopped his earlier movements choosing to focus on me instead. "Tell me, tell me you're mine." He says quietly lightly brushing his fingers across the same spot he bit me minutes earlier. "I think we've already established that I'm yours." He gives me a heart stopping smile that I return with ease. The words are on the tip of my tongue I can feel them begging to get out, but I stop myself at the last second. I can never be Klaus's, not when I have my impending death hanging over my head. But as I look into his crystal blue eyes I don't want to be with anyone else, not when I have him. And I want so much to be selfish and tell him I'm his that he can have me, but I can't. I can't do this to him.

"I have to go," I mumble rolling Klaus off of me and climbing to my feet. I'm pretty sure my dress from last night is ripped to shreds so it looks like I'm going to toga it home. I can't even look at Klaus as I start to walk out of the room.

"Where do you think you're going?" Klaus doesn't surprise me when he blocks my exit. At least, he threw on some pants so both of us aren't naked for this fight.

"Home to change," I sigh finally lifting my head to look him in the eyes. I don't know what has my heart clenching more; the obvious hurt filling his blue orbs at my rejection or the pure anger that he let himself care.

"No." He answers crossing his arms and clenching his jaw.

"No?" I question in disbelief. "You can't stop me Klaus. You don't own me." I throw as much anger behind my words as I can. If I'm going to make it believable I have to feel as little as possible.

"Clearly," Klaus bites with so much raw anger and hurt behind that one word. I have nothing to say as I brush past him making another advance for the door. Klaus, of course intercepts me again this time bumping into the table next to me. Papers scatter to the floor as one in particular catches my attention. I feel my heart plunge at what I'm about to do, but if it gets me out of here then fine.

"What is this?" I ask bending down retrieving the parchment. I glance over the rich lines and deep shadows that make up Caroline Forbes face. "It's pretty." I smile humorlessly holding the drawing up for him to see.

"That has nothing to do with this," Klaus snaps snatching the paper out of my hands and tearing it up.

"Doesn't it?" I yell tugging the sheet higher up around me. "Face it Klaus, it's only a matter of time before you get bored. I'm simply your temporary entertainment for your stay in Mystic Falls. Hell, I bet you even told Caroline that you would show her the world." I laugh dryly not expecting the guilty silence I receive in return. "No?" I say shaking my head not wanting to believe it.

"If you're expecting an apology, you won't be getting one. I won't apologize for words that meant absolutely nothing to a girl who meant even less." He grits stubbornly holding his head high.

"Right, I should have known." I nod looking down at the ground as I take a step towards him. "You don't care about anyone, but yourself. Well, jokes on you this time Klaus because I don't belong to anyone." I swallow the lump in my throat as I look him straight in the eyes and muster every ounce of anger I have. "Especially to someone like you."

I sit up with a jolt clawing at my chest and the burning sensation licking up my body. I try to stand only succeeding in crashing to the floor with a cry in pain. I gasp for air fighting my lungs for a single breath. I clutch my throat hunching over as I blindly grab for something, anything that will let me breathe. It feels like I'm drowning on dry land and just as black dots cloud my vision the pain stops. I suck in a greedy breath of air reveling in the way my lungs expand.

"What the hell was that?" I groan climbing to my feet still clutching my heart in confusion. I look around my room to find the sun is almost setting as my eyes widen in realization. Oh my god, Klaus! I run for the door intending on a quick exit only to fly backwards landing in a heap on my floor when I hit a barrier. "You have got to be kidding me!" I scream rushing to the door only to hit an invisible wall. "No!" I yell banging my fists in hopes that it will break setting me free. It's only when I'm panting and on the verge of total chaos that I hear my phone ring.

"KLAUS!" I yell almost breaking my phone when Elijah's voice comes from the other end.

"Alba, what's wrong? Where's Niklaus?" Elijah sounds urgent as I run a restless hand through my hair.

"I don't know. I was supposed to meet him and the Salvatore's at the school to take down Alaric, but someone knocked me out. I woke up and I couldn't breathe, it felt like…" I trail off halting in my pacing as I realize exactly what it felt like.

"It felt like what Alba?" Elijah asks sounding just as worried as I feel.

"It felt like someone was reaching inside my chest and squeezing my heart." I answer quietly feeling more panic set in.

"Where are you?" Elijah questions as I shake myself out of the haze I'm in.

"I'm in my bedroom; I think Bonnie put a spell on the house so I can't leave. Where are you?" I ask crossing my fingers that he's on his way to Mystic Falls.

"I'm on my way. Just hang in there until I get to you." He says briskly before hanging up the phone. I do the same sitting on my bed and resting my head in my hands. I look down to see I have a few missed texts from Rebekah and couple from Matt. They are on their way home, Danny's having trouble breathing.

"Damn it!" I yell standing abruptly from the bed. I can feel the anger from the past few days begging for release as I grab the first thing I find and chuck it at the wall. I watch in satisfaction as the perfume bottle shatters into a thousand tiny shards. I don't stop there either, I continue to break and shatter everything I can get my hands on. Why not? It's not like any of it will matter in the end. So I don't hold back until I'm panting in the middle of my room with the mess I made littering the floor around me. Wood, glass, my overturned mattress, all of it is the visible turmoil that is my life. So on that thought, I pick up my phone that shockingly made it through the tornado and hit speed dial.

"Alba," Damon's voice sounds casual enough, but I can hear the hint of guilt lacing his words. "What are you doing?"

"Damon," I greet back lowly, "I'm just wondering which makes you more stupid; that you knocked me out and had Bonnie put a spell on my room or that you took Klaus."

"Well I like to think of those as strategic moves on my part." Damon laughs lightly as I hear the faint sound of tires on asphalt. They are leaving town with my original.

"Hmm," I hum smirking at the setting sun in the distance. "Ask me what I'm thinking Damon." I demand of him as his silence fills the phone.

"What are you thinking, Alba?" I can hear the hesitancy in his voice and I think he's finally starting to understand just how much he fucked up.

"I'm trying to decide whose heart I'm going to have more fun ripping out of their chest, Stefan or Elena's." I keep my voice calm expecting the reaction he gives me.

"You wouldn't dare." He snarls making me laugh out loud.
