Chapter 23 Part two

"Trust me you can dance." –Vodka

It's hard to tell what the townspeople of Mystic Falls are thinking as they pass The Grill on their way home from another mindless baseball game. Most are curious as to why the only place in town that serves half way decent food and gets such good business on Friday nights is closed; while others merely hang their head in disappointment as they wonder where they're going to eat that night. No one really cares enough to confirm the reason behind The Grill closing, which is a good thing because if anyone would have stepped foot in the fine establishment at that moment, they too would have been caught up in the chaos brewing inside.

"Round ten!" Alba hollers enthusiastically going down the line as she pours shot after shot for the people sitting in front of her. It's hard to tell who caved first and downed the first shot. Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena think it was Kol, but all of the guys agree that it was Caroline. The jury's still out on exactly who started this train wreck but it's safe to say everyone's enjoying the ride.

"Hey we should probably slow down," Matt voices from his spot next to Elena who nods her head in agreement. Matt, after all, will have to clean this mess up in the morning for his shift.

"Matt's right," Elena sighs pushing her empty shot glass towards Alba who rolls her eyes and fills it up with more alcohol.

"Don't be such a pansy Gilbert. You're a vampire now. Start acting like one." Alba winks choosing to stare Elena down until the doppelgänger swallows her booze. "That a girl," Alba smiles turning around to look over the selection hanging from the wall.

"So are you going to tell us where you've been for the past two months love or does this little meeting have a point?" Klaus asks leaning back in his chair with a wide grin. He can't lie that he's not happy to see her, but something about her has changed drastically. Something Klaus didn't catch the last time he was with her.

"Hmm," Alba hums running her fingers over the bottles situated in front of her. "What are you guy's feeling? Vodka?" She suggests snatching the bottle from the shelf and inspecting its contents completely ignoring Klaus's question.

"I could go for some vodka, but I think it might be too strong for the rest of these children." Kol smirks looking straight at Bonnie from across the bar. He blows her a kiss one that she's quick to turn down with a look of utter disgust.

"Kol, you didn't even know what Vodka was until eight months ago." Rebekah points out smiling cheekily when Kol scowls at her.

"Enough, Alba answer Klaus's question," Elijah demands exuding his silent power that he only reserves for the most serious of situations. He was in New York when he found the invitation on his doorstep along with a note threatening to kill his siblings if he did not show. Suffice it to say Elijah isn't feeling the most gracious towards Alba right now.

"Elijah Elijah Elijah," Alba tsks with a sigh twisting around with the bottle of vodka in her hands. "I thought you would be happy to see me. After all, you just like your brother and Damon did spend a good portion of your time trying to find me." She smiles sweetly stopping in front of Elijah who can't take his eyes off the girl now pouring him a shot. He can sense the hidden intentions behind tonight, but he's not quite sure who her target is.

"Well seeing as we aren't going to get any answers out of you. I say we play a game." Damon drawls leaning over the counter to snatch the bottle of bourbon that's been sat in front of him. Everyone except Alba watches as he drinks straight from the bottle taking his time downing a large portion of its contents.

"No one wants to play your games, Damon." Caroline snaps, glaring at the vampire with so much ferocity that it makes Klaus smile. This doesn't go unnoticed by Alba as she smirks as well.

"What game did you have in mind?" Alba asks walking back to her spot as head of the bar. Damon just smiles at Caroline when he answers.

"Never have I ever." He grins when most everyone else groans. Only the originals are left unfazed by Damon's words as they drink from their glasses.

"I think that sounds perfect, but we just need to fix one small thing." Alba smiles knowingly as she takes a measured step back staring down everyone who is looking her in the eye. "Every one of you is going to tell the truth until I say otherwise. All of you will relax and lose your inhibitions for this one night." Alba's pupils dilate as her voice draws every single person's attention to her. Even the originals are affected as they can't help, but comply with her wishes. By the time Alba is finished, the Scooby gang is looking to one another in panic while the originals just look outraged and shocked that compulsion can be used on them.

"Did you just-" Rebekah's eyes are wide in absolute amazement as her mouth falls open in awe.

"I did." Alba smirks winking at Klaus who is having an internal war in his mind on whether he should kill Alba or kiss her. "So let's start, shall we? Never have I ever slept with a Salvatore!" Alba yells uncapping the bottle in her hands as she watches in amusement as Rebekah, Caroline, and Elena drink their shots.

"That was dirty," Rebekah comments with a frown when Alba pours her another shot.

"So was sleeping with my daddy," Alba chuckles darkly when Rebekah looks down in shame. Damon just glares at nothing in particular over his daughter's shoulder trying to figure out exactly what has gotten into her.

Caroline and Elena don't even look at Alba as she refills their drinks, but she does point to Tyler afterwards with a sultry smile.

"I believe it's your turn, handsome." Alba's grin broadens when Tyler smirks with a spark dancing in his eyes. He obviously didn't have any trouble letting go of his inhibitions.

"Never have I ever drained a human of all their blood." Tyler speaks as Elijah, Rebekah, Kol, Klaus, Damon, Stefan, and Caroline take their shots. The best part is that not a single soul looks guilty about it as they smile happily to one another.

"Okay! I got one! Never have I ever slept with an original!" Caroline shouts getting really into the game.

"Do you want to?" Kol quips with a smirk as Caroline's feathers get ruffled.

"You're not the original I had in mind." She tosses her hair over her shoulder haughtily before locking eyes with Klaus who is glaring at Tyler who is staring hungrily at Alba's ass.

"That's too bad, sweetheart. I'm one helluva a good time." Kol sighs lacing his fingers together behind his head.

"I'm sure you are," Caroline glares as Alba fills up Stefan and Damon's drinks.

"If he's anything like his sister, he will be." Stefan retorts so quickly and without any thought whatsoever that it makes Alba snicker. Elena merely huffs taking another shot for good measure as does Alba for her own rendezvous with Klaus.

"Me next!" Bonnie sits up a little straighter trying to put height where she obviously has none. "Never have I ever gone skinny dipping." She blushes softly when Jeremy leans over whispering something very inappropriate in her ear as he takes a shot along with everyone in the room except for Alba.

"Wait a minute! I find it very hard to believe you have never gone skinny dipping." Elena pipes up crossing her thin arms in front of her chest. "You've done everything else after all." She snarks making Alba shrug not the least bit bothered by the doppelgänger's newfound hatred for her.

"Alba can't swim." Stefan coughs gently pushing his empty glass in Alba's direction as she moves to fill it.

"So you can take down a whole army of vampires, but kiddy pools scare you?" Kol laughs in disbelief. "You must be joking!"

"Kol, say another word and I'll stake you." Klaus smiles humorlessly a little angry he didn't know Alba couldn't swim. Why doesn't he know that? He could have easily taught her these past couple months if she wasn't so busy abandoning him.

"Oh relax brother. It's not like I really care," Kol winks taking his shot before slamming it down.

"Aw Kol, you wound me." Alba places her hand over her heart feigning hurt. "Next!" She yells turning to Jeremy who is all too quick to answer.

"Never have I ever kissed my friend's mom." Everyone laughs at this as Tyler and Damon take swigs from their drink, both guilty of kissing Matt's mother.

"Thanks for that by the way," Matt raises his shot before downing it.

"Oh don't be such a sour puss. She loved it." Damon jabs with a smirk as Elena sends him a disapproving glare.

"Well in that case, never have I ever kissed a witch at this bar." Matt smiles pleased with himself when Jeremy and Stefan shoot their liquor.

"What!? Stefan!" Elena gasps looking between her best friend and boyfriend in bewilderment.

"It was one time after he became a ripper. He cornered me, what was I supposed to do?" Bonnie shrugs like it doesn't bother her the least bit. Stefan just grins at her, his eyes holding a hidden lust for the little witch no one ever thought possible from him.

"Was he any good?" Caroline stage whispers as she nudges Bonnie playfully with a less than sober giggle.

"Better than Jeremy," Bonnie sighs without the least bit of guilt in her voice. Jeremy and Elena simply clench their jaws and let it slide off their backs. After all, they are supposed to be having a good time.

"Never have I ever skipped town when things got hard." Elena yells targeting one person with this strictly because its Alba's fault Damon has ignored her for the past two months. Elena waits for Alba to take her shot with a smirk, but to her surprise Alba doesn't take one. Stefan, Damon, and all the originals take one, but not the person Elena wants to. Elena opens her mouth to protest to this, but Alba quickly cuts her off.

"If that was your way of insulting me Elena, you're going to have to do better than that. I didn't leave town because things got hard. I left town because there was nothing here for me anymore." Alba voices emotionlessly staring down Elena's heated gaze with such laziness that Elena can't decide if Alba just doesn't care or if she's playing her.

"Well this escalated quickly; I say we play another game." Matt smiles as he snaps his fingers, but the poor boy manages to miss his fingers altogether revealing to everyone just how drunk he is. "Let's play truth or dare! For every truth someone picks they drink."

"Ooooo! I like this one!" Caroline giggles happily scooting closer to the bar to get a better view of the people around her.

"That is an excellent idea mutt," Damon smiles turning blue eyes on Alba. "Alba, truth or dare."

"Dare." She smirks never batting an eyelash. Damon loses his cocky smile for a split second before it returns a hundred times brighter.

"I dare you to tell everyone here where you have been for the past two months." Damon along with Klaus leans forward eagerly, both hungry for answers from the girl they thought they knew. Alba just laughs shaking her head teasingly.

"You know Damon I'd figure by now you would realize you're asking the wrong questions." Alba sighs, taking off her leather jacket and throwing it on the counter behind her. It gives everyone a perfect view of the tattoo on her shoulder and in an instant, the room falls into a saddening silence. "But since you seem to be stuck on that question, I'll tell you." She walks back over to Damon resting her elbows comfortably on the bar allowing Damon to see the silver ring that adorns her finger. "For the past two months, I have been a little bit of everywhere. I spent a week in Cali, a day in Texas. Two weeks in Boston and three hours in the Grand Canyon; did you know there's a coven of vampires out there that actually live in the crater? Well, there was a coven of vampires." Alba chuckles taking a step back. "They were eating the tourist so I killed them."

"So you've just been what? Sight-seeing for two months?" Tyler scoffs, taking his shot wondering how in the hell the two idiots over there couldn't find her when she was just being a tourist. Alba cocks her head to stare at Tyler with a secretive smile as she shrugs.

"Among other things."

"What other things?" Klaus demands to know tired of playing her games.

"Ah, ah, ah," Alba tsks wagging her finger at him, "I did Damon's dare, now it's my turn. Elijah, truth or dare?"

"Truth," Elijah answers immediately shooting his whiskey with a grace that still astounds the ladies in the room.

"Predictable," Alba hums with a smile as she thinks on it. "If you could sleep with one person in this room tonight, who would it be?" Alba smirks well aware of who it's going to be. She sees the way Elijah stares at Elena, if only he knew her and Katherine are far and in between. However, I think Elijah shocks everyone in the room when a different name tumbles from his plump lips.

"You, of course." Elijah doesn't smile or smirk when he answers. He just stares at Alba with a newfound intensity that has Klaus gritting his teeth.

"Oh really, brother?" Klaus growls his eyes flashing yellow as he mentally thinks of all the ways he will torture and kill his older brother.

"She asked." Elijah glances at Klaus out of the corner of his eye without so much as a hint of worry. He was cool and collected as ever.

"Hey let's not get angry with Elijah," Matt sputters around his mouthful of liquor. Out of everyone here, Matt was the drunkest followed by Bonnie, Caroline, and Jeremy. "I would sleep with Alba, too." He puckers his lips like he is actually thinking about it then nods. "Yep I'd go for it."

"Me three!" Tyler holds his hand up followed shortly by Jeremy.

"Make that four." All the guys laugh and slap hands before downing another shot. The girls are quickly losing interest in the conversation except for Elena who is starting to get jealous she's not the golden prize anymore. Damon and Klaus share matching looks of anger and for one brief moment they consider tag teaming to kill every male in this bar. But Alba saves the day once again.

"Never going to happen, moving on! Elijah, pick your victim." Alba waves her hand like she's wiping the situation from her mind. She doesn't seem the least bit affected by the boy's offhanded compliment and Klaus can't deny that it's a small victory for him.

"Elena, truth or dare?" Elijah asks, surprising no one this time when he chooses her. Elena smiles tapping her chin in thought.

"Dare." She states proudly straightening her back like she's going to war.

"I dare you to kiss one person in this bar…that isn't a man." Elijah smiles as Kol and Rebekah nod their heads in approval.

"For once brother, you aren't a total bore." Kol remarks excitedly as he watches Elena narrow down her choices. He can already tell she's dismissed Alba and Rebekah for her two best friends and Kol hopes it's the little witch that wins.

"Easy," Elena scoffs jumping off her chair to walk around the bar to no one other than Caroline Forbes. Before the blond even realizes what is happening, Elena has her lips covering Caroline's in a sweet peck that lasts about three seconds.

All the girls except Alba snicker quietly once the exchange is over while the boy's sit in silence all of them thinking dirty things. It isn't until Elena breaks the silence that everyone starts drinking again.

"Klaus! Truth or dare?" Elena smirks staring only at Alba when she says this. Alba doesn't seem the least bit phased as she pours drinks for all the guys and two of the girls.

"Do you really have to ask, darling?" Klaus mocks leaning back in his seat with the grace of jungle cat.

"Thought so," Elena's smirk widens when she leans forward to peer past Damon and Stefan over to Klaus. "I dare you to play seven minutes in heaven with one girl in this bar that isn't Alba." Elena feels triumphant when she gives her dare and from the gleeful expression on Damon's face she knows she's done well.

"Hmm," Klaus hums looking over each girl like he's picking through their flaws and values. He doesn't want to give the doppelgänger the satisfaction of seeing how angry he is by this request. The little wench will get hers, but for now he has to force himself to get his. "Caroline, love, let's go." He doesn't even wait for her as he heads for the bathrooms. He already knows she'll be following him like a puppy considering she has been eye fucking him all night thanks to Alba's compulsion.

The group watches the pair disappear in the back as Rebekah starts the timer on her phone. No one is sure what to say especially when Alba seems unaffected by the whole situation which just angers Elena. However, it's Matt that breaks the silence and what he says snaps everyone out of their reverie.

"I miss Danny." He mumbles with his head drooped in his hands and an empty shot glass in front of him. He resembles the town drunk that no one wants to listen to, but in this case, everyone is listening. Yet no one can respond or even make eye contact with the girl standing tall in front of all of them.

The air in the room has turned solemn with the thoughts of a friend lost swirling in everyone's mind. Matt's too far gone to even notice the impact of his one little sentence, but Damon notices. He can't take his eyes from Alba who stands mute in the middle of the bar with her shoulders tense and face expressionless. He knows the look in her eyes because he's held the same hopeless expression many times before.

"I miss her smile," Bonnie mutters dreary pushing her full glass away from her.

"She was a good kid," Jeremy agrees nodding his head as he does the same with his empty glass.

"Oh can we please stop the dramatics!" Kol suddenly burst giving each of them an incredulous glare. "Danny's dead. She's dust and there's nothing anyone can do about it." He huffs angrily out of spite as he slams down his shot and pours himself another.

Damon and Stefan stand at the same time both thinking the same thing as they stare down Kol. How he could say those things in front of Alba is beyond them.

"Kol, Truth or dare?" Alba quietly asks picking her head up to look at Kol. She turns her full body towards him and crosses her arms with attitude.

"Dare, of course." He smirks not caring that his words stung Alba or himself. Frankly, Kol just didn't care at all.

"I dare you to visit Danny's grave." Alba speaks the words slowly and with so much conviction that Kol drops his snide smile. "I dare you to walk through the graveyard to her headstone and actually see her."

"That won't be a problem, darling." Kol smiles again but this time it's lacking its usual sarcasm and criticism. "But before I go Alba truth or dare?"

"Dare."

"I dare you to jump off Wickery Bridge." Kol smirks as Damon's instant protests ring loud and clear through the bar.

"Oh hell no!"

"Done. But first, you're all free of my compulsion." Alba's pupils dilate once more freeing the group from her games. It only takes Damon a second to fight his way out of the fog clouding his mind, but when he does Alba and Kol are gone.

Klaus POV

I guide Caroline into the men's room making a show of closing and locking the door before I turn around to face the blond. She's leaning lazily against the sinks running her eyes over me in a way that used to excite me. But now staring at her, I feel nothing which just makes me angry.

"Well, are you going to kiss me or do I have to do all the work?" Caroline grins lustfully as she pushes off from the sink and saunters toward me. She looks good in her short navy skirt and white blouse, but her appeal is foreign to me now.

"Sorry love, but I'm not looking for a kiss." I explain brushing past her wondering what in the hell has gotten into me. Am I really turning down Caroline Forbes; a smart ball of fire that has my name written all over it?

"What are you looking for?" Caroline coos coming up behind me where I stand resting my hands against the sink counter. She wraps her wiry arms around my middle laying her chin on my shoulder. "Just tell me what you want and I'll do it." I have to close my eyes at the breathy words whispered in my ear. I like control and here is Caroline willing to let me have all the control I want.

"I want you to go stand over there," I nod my head toward the door, "for the remaining five minutes we are in here."

"Are you serious!?" Caroline yells relinquishing Klaus and taking a step back. "You've been pining over me for months and you choose now not to like me!" She huffs in disbelief shaking her head while muttering profanities under her breath.

"Correction sweetheart," I snap turning around to face her. "I never pined over you and you waited too long. Someone better came along that is more intelligent, more independent, and more beautiful than you." I cross my arms ignoring the tears pooling in Caroline's eyes. They have no effect on me anymore.

"You can just go to hell!" Caroline screams storming out of the bathroom with her middle finger held high.

"Teenagers," I mutter following her out of the restroom expecting to find everyone right where we left them. Except when I walk back to the bar I find that Alba and Kol are missing along with Damon, Rebekah, Stefan, and Elijah. Tyler is trying to console a very angry Caroline as he sends me threatening glares and Elena, Jeremy, and Bonnie can barely look at one another. Matt is passed out cold on the bar.

"Where in the hell is she!?" I snap walking over to Elena to get in her face. She has the audacity to look annoyed, but she holds a hint of fear in her brown eyes.

"Alba dared Kol to go to the graveyard and Kol dared Alba to jump off Wickery Bridge. Rebekah and Elijah went after Kol and Stefan and Damon went after Alba." Elena spits with so much venom that it I draw my lips back in a condescending smile.

"You know, love, you shouldn't be so jealous. It shows you're true colors," I whisper in her ear before I flash out of the bar. I run toward Wickery Bridge keeping to the woods so not to be seen by Alba. I wish I could ask what has gotten into Alba, but I already know. She lost her sister, she was the reason behind Danny's death and it's safe to say she's not alright. I know exactly what she's been up to these past two months. She wasn't sight-seeing or being a tourist she was hunting.

"Where is she!? She should be here!" I screech to a halt when I hear Damon's shrill cry of anger pierce the night. I peer through the gnarled tree limbs to see him and Stefan pacing along the bridge both oblivious to my arrival. I take the opportunity to scan the trees around the area to find no sign of Alba anywhere. Not even her scent lingers anywhere near here.

"Where else would she go? Kol specifically said to jump off this bridge. There's no other bridge in town." Stefan muses rubbing his chin trying to remain calm for his overly dramatic brother.

"I don't know!" But I do. There's only one other place in town with enough water and a big enough jump to give Alba the rush she desires.

Alba POV

I take a step forward peering over the cliff's edge into the dark water below. I'm kind of curious if this will be like last time when I just sank to the bottom and saw my dead mother. I don't remember how I got out of it, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with her. I decided halfway to Wickery Bridge that it wouldn't be big enough jump for me. I needed something a little higher and water a little deeper.

After all, I would definitely one up Kol who I know for a fact is holed up in his room right now after freaking out on Rebekah and Elijah at the cemetery. He couldn't make himself go visit her. He's a coward. He puts up a good front, but we all know what his real problem is. He can't deal with Danny's death. It doesn't matter to me. He's not my problem anymore neither is the rest of the sorry bunch I left at the grill.

So with that sobering thought I take a couple of steps back and prepare myself for the run. However, right before I make the first step I hear a twig snap in the distance. I grit my teeth and roll my eyes when I sense his presence.

"Did you come to watch the show?" I yell turning around to come face to face with Klaus. Luckily, he's standing a few feet behind me giving me enough space so I don't have to be near him.

"How could I miss it?" He smirks lacing his hands together behind his back like he used to.

"I'm surprised you found me, but you always did know how to sniff me out. Kind of like a little puppy." I grin amused when Klaus chuckles.

"Well with your activities this summer, it wasn't hard to figure out." He gives me a half-smile as he starts to walk around me in slow circles. "After all, who do you think cleaned up your messes after you left? What was your plan, Alba? Take down as many vampire covens and wolf packs as you could. Possibly paint the target on your back a little redder with how many enemies you've made this summer." Klaus growls stopping in front of me with eyes that could kill.

"Is that what you think I was doing?" I ask tapping my chin as I start to take slow deliberate steps backward. Klaus just watches me through narrowed eyes his mind reeling from not being able to figure me out. "You think I was trying to make enemies?"

"I think you're upset and hurt about Danny. I think you're doing every possible thing to ensure your death." Klaus hisses now moving towards me when he can see exactly where I'm heading. I stop once I feel the breeze of the water beneath me tickle my back as I hold up my hand halting Klaus from coming any further. "Alba…" he snarls his eyes flashing yellow when he can't move beyond the invisible barrier I created between us.

"I'm just curious, Klaus. If you knew what I was doing, why play dumb with me? Why pretend like you didn't know exactly what I've done?" I ask curiously wondering if he'll give me a straight answer. Klaus stares at me for the longest time his anger building and the hope behind his eyes diminishing when he realizes I won't let him out of my barrier.

"Because I was willing to wait for you to come back to me…however, long it took." Klaus finally reveals with an annoyed glance at something over my shoulder. I cock my head to the side studying him closely. He's wearing loose jeans and a black Henley that make his blue eyes glitter in the moonlight. He's quite spectacular standing here, but I can't do this anymore. Not with him not with anyone.

"You know Klaus," I begin taking another small step back so the heel of my feet kicks pebbles over the edge of the cliff, "I wasn't trying to die this summer." I shrug with a small smirk locking eyes with the original. "I was ensuring your safety." And with that, I throw my arms out wide and fall backwards.

The last thing I hear before the water rushes over me is Klaus's strangled cries.
