The Duncney Fanclub

But they're just friends, right? In fact, rumor has it, they hate each other!

Courtney didn't yell or scream or cry. Courtney was above that. Instead Courtney stayed in her bedroom, staring at her ceiling, wondering why the aching in her chest was even there to begin with.

"Why would he do this?" Courtney knew Bridgette didn't have the answer but it was the better solution than having to confront Duncan.

Bridgette had been there instantly when Courtney messaged her the news. Her best friend was always on call, which Courtney needed, but she didn't know what to do with herself.

The two girls sat in Courtney's room in silence. Bridgette wanted to reach out and do something to help Courtney, but even she could see that Courtney needed to admit she needed the help first.

She wasn't treating this like a break-up. She was treating this like the end of a business contract, which Bridgette knew it was. But she hadn't suspected Courtney to treat it this way. Even though Courtney didn't see it, Bridgette knew her and Duncan were ideal. Bridgette, of course, did not say this out loud.

"I think I want some ice cream," Courtney mumbled, hr eyes transfixed on some point against the room. Bridgette got up without word, fetching her the ice cream. Courtney's phone laid forgotten on the kitchen table as Bridgette passed by. Making sure Courtney wasn't watching, she checked the home screen.

6 missed calls.

4 voicemails.

24 text messages.

Bridgette didn't snoop further, leaving the phone where it was. Courtney would come round in her own time, but until then, Bridgette would still be there for her.

Courtney was still in the inital shock phase. But even once it passed, Courtney wasn't a crier. She would not cry over a boy who she deemed not worth it. After all, he was nothing but her douchebag next-door-neighbor.

During this time, Courtney didn't miss any school days. She hadn't let Duncan ruin her so far, she wasn't going to start now. The whispers and glances still hung in the air, mostly about how Duncan had not been the one to drop Courtney off at school in the morning. Heather was yet to release a break-up statement, so as far as everyone else was concerned, he was still in her picture.

Courtney went about her days as if she didn't have a care in the world. Her focus was on school work and she instantly found the relationship with her parents getting back on track.

The biggest surprise came when Annabelle showed up one weekend in May, being done with her finals. Courtney hugged her sister tight for longer than Annabelle wanted. The two sisters weren't very close, but Courtney found herself needing her sister, the gossip Queen, around.

"You want to talk about it?" Annabelle asked as soon as their parents were out the door for work one morning. Courtney shook her head, but Annabelle still threw her the magazine that had the dreaded article. Courtney ssumed several companies had reported it, but Annabelle's favorite magazine had, apparently, been the first.

"You know," the older sister continued. "You guys looked really cute when you were together. All loved up, like nothing could break you." Annabelle sighed, "Huh, I guess something did."

"Annie-"

"No, no, its not my business."

"That's a first," Courtney snorted.

Annabelle grinned, her eyes lighting up, "But your sex life does intrigue me."

"ANNIE!"

The older girl fell into laughter, knowing her prudish little sister would not be divulging in anything like that. Courtney threw a pillow at her sister, getting up from the couch and making her way back to her room, leaving her sister to her own devices.

It was a week after the break-up did the moving van appear outside. Courtney wouldn't have cared usually, people came and went in the lower apartments frequently, but she recognized the furniture that was being moved. The coffee table she did her homework on, the sofa where she'd lounged for too long, the television that had the power to break her into tiny pieces with every celebrity new program available.

Courtney never thought it would have happened, never having held up her end of the bargain (even though that was his fault), Duncan was still moving.

She didn't stare for too long, instead, the second she saw just the peek of green hair, she went back to bed.

Courtney stuck her head out her front door, collecting the mail. She turned her attention over to his door and the pain in her chest hit harder when she realized he'd never be standing there, mocking her again.

She tried not to dwell on it, swiftly moving back into her apartment.

Annabelle was hanging around the kitchen, looking too smug for her own good. Courtney wanted nothing more than to knock the look off her face. She'd been excited to get her sister back, but then instantly remembered why she hated having her sister around in the first place.

"What's your problem, grumpy?" Annabelle teased following Courtney back to her bedroom. Courtney rolled her eyes, not even bothering to shut the door on her sister.

Courtney never realized how little she had to do in her own apartment. It'd only been a few months, but she was starting to wonder what she had ever done before Duncan came into her life.

"Are you still moping over the break-up? Because I have some good tips on how to get over a guy." Annabelle was trying to help, Courtney realized, though what Annabelle failed to understand was that Courtney wasn't grieving her lost relationship. Courtney couldn't have cared less.

"I don't want to be here," Courtney whined, throwing herself into one of the seats reserved for people to try on shoes. At this action, Annabelle started tossing shoes at her sister.

Annabelle had insisted picking both Courtney and Bridgette up from school, taking them to the mall and spending as much money as possible on things they didn't need.

Courtney had always admired Annabelle's way of using their fathers credit card without remorse. Courtney had tried it once and ended up returning everything out of guilt. On this particular day, Annabelle was wanting to go all out, much to her little sisters demise.

Bridgette went along with the plan, watching Courtney carefully as they made their way through the selection of stores. Not once did Courtney pick something out for herself. It was all Annabelle. Bridgette could see the older sister meant well, but Bridgette could see her best friend deteriorating before her eyes.

By the time the three girls had gotten back to the apartment, Courtney hadn't said a word. Annabelle had done all the talking, Bridgette pitching in a few comments, but Courtney just stared out the window the whole car ride home.

She threw her bags to the floor in the kitchen, making her way over to the sofa and flipping on the TV. It fell open on the last channel watch, which was the celebrity gossip channel that Courtney despised but her sister loved. Grabbing for the control, Courtney stopped dead.

"Don't away because we have an exclusive interview with Hollywood's bad boy, Duncan Evans, coming up next."

It changed to commerical and Courtney felt the bile rising in her throat, her stomach flipping over and the pain in her chest set into overdrive. She felt her head spinning and she fell backwards, the couch catching her but she felt nothing.

Bridgette and Annabelle were at her side instantly, assuring Courtney that they could change the channel.

"No," she told them. As concerned as they were, she wanted to know what was happening with him. It pained her to say it but she missed him. "I want to watch it."

"No you don't-"

"Yes, I do," Courtney told her sister. Annabele didn't respond, chewing down on her lip instead. She worried about Courtney, Courtney knew that. She knew both the girls there beside her meant well. Bridgette was quiet about the ordeal, but she was waiting for Courtney to break down. Courtney refused to break down. Courtney refused to admit that despite it being a fake relationship, she had truly fallen for the douchebag next door. She had real feelings for him that she would never get to tell him about. Not that she would hve wanted to tell him about them anyway because she knew he would never feel the sme way about her. Duncan was a player, he slept around and kept up his reputation.

In the end, Courtney was glad he'd been the one to break up with her when he did. It saved on the heart break if she'd fallen further.

A/N: :/

How are we feeling about this chapter?

I will admit, it is not what I wanted. But I don't even know what I want! Which is frustrating.

Are you guys aware that this is the only chapter in my four and a half year of writing that I have willingly rewritten from scratch? Usually, if a chapter isn't working out for me, I'm all 'fuck it'. But my first draft of this was so horrific, I had to redo it.

I feel like I've bitchered this story into something I didn't want.

Anyways...

Thanks for reading, please review (:
