The Duncney Fanclub

But they're just friends, right? In fact, rumor has it, they hate each other!

Heather was furious.

Duncan found himself hiding away from her out of fear.

Heather's plan had kind of complicated things for him. Now that they'd spent so much time pretending to be a couple, Duncan was starting to wonder if his brain knew they weren't really a couple. After the 'break-up' Duncan had felt like shit for the longest time. The look on Courtney's face had destroyed his soul. He kept telling himself it was probably for the best.

In the end, Duncan spend everyday he could wallowing in self-pity in bed. Geoff went out every night, invited him along, Duncan refused. He couldn't use meaningless sex to get away from his problems this time, he knew that. The only way to fill the void in his chest was Courtney, but he doubted she wanted anything more to do with him any more.

By the time he got home just over a week later, there was already a moving van parked out front. They were loading up his things and Duncan wanted to be furious, but he knew that this was coming. It was for the best if he could permanently get away from Courtney.

"You know, I don't even remember how we got that Grand Piano in there," Heather commented bitterly. Duncan turned to look at her, scared of what Hell she was about to unleash on him. But she didn't. She stared at him with softened eyes, always knowing how Duncan was feeling before he himself did. "Maybe you should go say goodbye." It was only a suggestion but Duncan shuddered at the thought of having her door slammed in his face again.

Heather let him be and Duncan pulled out his phone, leaning against the side of the van. He scrolled through the gossip feeds, words of encouragement from fans, and offers to be his replacement girlfriend. Sketchy pictures of him and Gwen after she'd visited him at Geoff's, hugging as they said goodbye at the door, wonders if he already had a replacement girlfriend. The world of paparazzi was hectic and wrong. Duncan was used to it by now, after his almost four years in the limelight, but it never stopped bothering him, the way reality got twisted and people believed it more when it got twisted.

There were too many reports on the break-up, everyone at least believing that much. The rumors surrounding it included infidelity, their night in jail and Duncan moving to Canada. Duncan wished he could move to Canada, though he doubted that plan would go down too well with Noah and Heather.

"Hey, you're Duncan Evans, right?"

The green haired boy looked up from phone. "You got me," he replied bitterly.

"Word on the street is you broke my sisters heart." Duncan gave her a confused look, not recognizing the young woman in front of him from anywhere. "I'm Annabelle," she introduced, sticking her hand out in greeting. "Annabelle Taylor; Courtney's sister."

Duncan reluctantly shook her hand. He'd seen a photo or two of Annabelle on Courtney's phone, but that was nothing compared to how beautiful she was in person. She looked like Courtney, he noticed, the same face shape, same nose, same chin, but the caked-in-make-up look was all hers.

"Can I help you with something?" He asked, not really sure why she would be cornering him like this.

Annabelle shrugged. "I don't really appreciate you hurting my sister like that."

"Join the club," he muttered with a snort.

"I was all well and prepared to come down here and give you a real piece of my mind," she continued. "But the look on your face says that someone already has. What's your problem?"

"What's my problem?" Duncan echoed, blinking at the young woman in front of him. "What's my problem? My problem is that I didn't really want to break up with your sister, in fact she means more to me than anyone else I have ever met."

"So why break-up with her?"

"For exactly the reason I just said. She means more to me than anyone else I have ever met-"

"So you broke up with her for her own protection?" Annabelle guessed, and Duncan nodded his head. "That's the biggest pile of bullshit I have ever heard. What is this, Twilight?" Duncan scowled at Annabelle. "I'm guessing you have at least half a brain in there. You're unhappy, Courtney- though she would never admit it- is very unhappy. You two were seriously cute together. I mean, I should know, I founded the Duncney Fanclub."

"...What the hell is a Duncney?"

Duncan felt like beating his head against the wall. It was now two weeks post break-up and Heather had already scheduled an interview for him. Duncan didn't even know what he wanted to do with his life form this point onwards. He hated his new apartment, hated being so far away from down town LA where everything happened. He hadn't seen Geoff in a week, hadn't seen Gwen in longer, hadn't answered any of his sisters' calls. Instead Duncan stayed in front of the television, lounging on the couch, not caring about the outside world. And then Heather showed up and told him that Noah had decided on the next career move.

While they'd been working out a way to haul the Grand Piano from the old apartment, Noah had the brainwave for Duncan to try a breakout on the music scene. Duncan threw his bowl of cereal at the manager next time he saw him.

Duncan had a one-off single on the Reach soundtrack and, though it didn't get anywhere near number 1, it had been a big hit. And now that Duncan wasn't willing to take any acting jobs, Noah thought it would be a great idea if he tried a musical career path instead. Heather had agreed and now here Duncan was, at almost 10am, ready to bullshit his way through an interview he knew nothing about. It was very much like his manager and publicist to not clue him in fully on what it was he was promoting.

The questions were easy enough. How've you been? Anything new? Oh a music career, that's different from acting, isn't it? What made you change your mind?

"And what sort of music are you going to be moving towards?" The interviewer asked.

"I haven't decided yet," Duncan answered. The only honest answer he'd given so far. "There are so many different genres out there that I would like to try, I just need to work out what I want to go for first."

"Any songs we can hear today?" Duncan laughed at the audiences excited reaction.

"Nothing today," he told them with a smile. "I have been working on some stuff, but nothing that's ready to be shared yet."

"Any love songs in the mix?" The interviewer teased, leaning forward in her chair. "For a special lady in your life?"

Duncan watched as a picture of him and Courtney flashed on screen behind him, one of the ones from the photo shoot by the lake. Duncan's heart wrenched at the picture, his stomach starting to ache. It was just one more reminder of everything he let go, Annabelle's words ringing in his head.

So you broke up with her for her own protection? That's the biggest pile of bullshit I have ever heard.

"Yeah," Duncan shrugged with a coy smile, feeling his inhibitions. "There may be one or two of those on there."

"Rumor has it that you and Courtney are no more?" Duncan pulled a face and the young girls in the audience squealed. "What happened with you two?"

Duncan scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Things got a bit...complicated, between us. We're just on different paths. I really need to get back into thinking about my career, she needs to focus on finals, it's not some sappy movie where everything works out in spite of that." The auidenice lapped it up, cooing in empathy. "But...she's Courtney," Duncan continued with a smile on his face, no longer giving a damn about his past actions. "And I'm still completley in love with her."
