Getting to Regna Ferox felt like one of the happiest moments of my life. I was sick of the cold, the walking, the wet feet and stiff joints.
"Frederick, are we there yet?"
Oh, and Lissa's complaining.
All of that changed though once we were within range of the gate. Flavia had a warm welcome ready for us, and I was quickly relaxing in a bath that was equally warm. I waited and spoke with Flavia of course, but I kept it brief. After all, I figured I would be in Ferox for a while. After my bath I walked around some more and explored the grounds. Lon'qu disappeared as soon as we arrived, no doubt to find Khan Basilio. Gregor and Libra spent a good amount of time drinking Feroxi mead. Well, Gregor drank anyway. Libra simply made sure the poor guy didn't drink too much. When I wasn't exploring, I looked over the decent library Flavia had acquired. The scent of old books was strangely enthralling and most of the time I spent in the library I wasn't really reading anything, I was just sniffing the books. Tharja shadowed me almost everywhere I went, vanishing only briefly every couple hours.
Strangely, dinners at Flavia's palace weren't as sociable as I remembered from my last visit. Everyone seemed tame and it was relatively quiet while we all ate. There were small conversations going on of course, but no crazy parties or anyone trying to do a keg stand.
'I'll bet thar's some shenanigans going on at Basilio's place though.'
We had only been in Ferox for a week when Chrom decided that it was time for him and Lissa to get back to Ylisstol. When I learned of his plans to leave, I began to pack my things. Lissa came into my room while I was packing and began to talk with me.
"Hey Sane I'm... Sane, why are you packing?"
She had a confused look on her face and her head was cocked to the side.
"We're leaving aren't we? I heard Chrom say he plans to return to Ylisstol."
"Yeah, but you look like you're having so much fun here. I didn't know you're going back too."
I looked at my belongings.
"Don't I have to? I mean, if Chrom's leaving..?"
"Why would you have to leave just because Chrom is?"
'Huh... She does have a point...'
"I... guess I'm not leaving then. There's still a bunch of stuff I can do here."
Lissa smiled.
"Alright then, I'll tell Chrom then. How long do you think you'll be staying?"
I shrugged my shoulders.
"I dunno. I guess as long as Flavia will have me."
We shared a laugh then Lissa quickly embraced me.
"Take care then. Don't let Tharja violate you."
I chuckled darkly.
"Okay, I won't."
'Or maybe I will.'
I got lonely pretty quickly once my friends from Ylisse left. I was talking to the local Feroxi soldiers and people, but they all seemed to have the same bland personalities, like NPCs in a video game. I walked through the snowy marketplace in search of goodies to bring back to Ylisstol, but the selection wasn't really anything to write home about. I did buy some new clothes however: a thick cloak made of soft furs, boots that reached almost to my knees, and a soft silk scarf. The only thing that stopped me from buying even more was the fact I was running out of gold. Tharja said she could just curse shopkeepers into giving me what I wanted, but that idea wasn't really appealing to me at all.
"It's wrong Tharja. You can't use spells to get what you want. It's still stealing."
"Not if they're giving it away."
"No, and that's my final answer."
"Fine..."
Eventually, I told Flavia that I was leaving to visit with Basilio. She wished me luck and proceeded to warn me about what to expect.
"That oaf has been training Wyverns lately, he's trying to make a whole brigade of the blasted things. Last time I visited there was Wyvern dung everywhere and some of the more unruly ones were snapping at whoever passed by. Watch yourself if you're hell bent on going."
I nodded.
"Thank you for the warning Flavia, I appreciate it greatly."
She gave me a hearty slap on the back.
"Here's what you should do, have your Dark Mage friend there turn them all into chickens!"
She paused for a moment.
"Basilio and his men that is, not the Wyverns."
I rolled my eyes stuck out my tongue.
"You're already the head Khan or you know, however you diplomatically rule in Ferox, do you really need to turn the competition into chickens?"
She shook and guffawed.
"No shame in making sure right?"
Tharja said she would accompany me shortly, as she had matters to finish up in East Ferox still. Libra, who never left with Chrom, stayed in East Ferox as well.
'Oh my... Is he going to support with Tharja?'
Gregor had also stayed in Ferox, and was more than happy to accompany me West.
"Is very cold in Ferox. You will be needing the strong man to be keeping you warm."
'Gregor I swear if you weren't like an over excited puppy I would knock you right the heck out.'
"It's only about a twenty minute or so walk. I'm sure I'll be fine. Besides,"
I spun around so my cloak could twirl around me.
"I've got my winter gear."
Gregor shrugged.
"If you are catching the cold then make sure you are letting Gregor know."
"Okay."
It turns out that my twenty minute or so guess wasn't entirely accurate. I was almost positive we were nearly there when Gregor spoke.
"We are nearly halfway. Are you still keeping warm?"
'Only halfway?'
"Yes, I'm fine Gregor." I said through chattering teeth.
Gregor frowned.
"If you are fine, then why are you having the chattering of the teeth? You are going to be freezing solid before we make it to Basilio."
I wanted to stick my tongue out at him, but didn't because I had the feeling it would quickly freeze.
"I'm not going to freeze..."
I was pretty sure I wasn't going to freeze, but I still drew my cloak tighter around me.
'Okay, I suppose logically I could freeze.'
"Gregor could be sharing his body heat. It would be no problem."
'I'm pretty sure I wrote a fanfiction that was awfully similar to this... Speaking of, I wonder what Leon's up to..?'
"I'm fine Gregor, really."
No sooner had the words left my mouth however, I managed to fall into a hole filled with snow over my head.
"Sane! Are you alright?"
I floundered around in the snow, scared and cold.
'Oh shit, what happens if I can't get out? Am I going to die? Can Gregor pull me out? Where's the top?'
"Sane, hold still, I will be getting you out of the snow!"
"Okay, hurry please!"
The snow, which before hadn't been much of a concern to me, managed to find its way inside my cloak, shirt, boots, even my pants managed to get snow in them. The snow froze me to the point where even if Gregor hadn't told me to stay still, I wouldn't be able to move much. It was like the snow was some sort of glue that sank into my bones and made my every movement felt like I was trudging through sludge. Thankfully, either the hole I managed to fall into wasn't that deep, or the snow compacted into platforms beneath me that prevented me from sinking too far in.
"Reach up your hand and I will pull you out."
I raised my arm so Gregor could find me. Through the stinging cold, I vaguely felt something warm grasp my hand. He lifted me out of the snow almost effortlessly and held me up as I stood shivering.
"Th-Thank you..."
Gregor frowned.
"Your clothes are all wet and heavy, that is not good. It will be very easy for you to be getting frostbitten now."
I tried to draw my cloak around me, thinking it would warm me up. All I did was press the wet and cold deeper into me.
"We should build a fire and warm up." I stuttered.
Gregor nodded his head and quickly began to gather firewood. It didn't take long, and soon we had a roaring blaze going. I was as close as I could get without actually sitting in the flame and had laid my cloak on the ground to dry. Gregor was relaxing, his breath rising above his head in even puffs. He wasn't that far away from me, if I wanted to I could easily lean over and rest against him.
'But he's not Jason Statham, so let's not snuggle the old guy.'
We didn't rest long before I stood up and put my cloak back on. It had enough time to dry, but was still slightly damp from my impromptu snow bath.
"We should get moving before it gets dark and cold." I told Gregor.
He wasn't quite ready to leave yet, but with some coaxing I was able to get him up and moving.
"Sane, if you decide to be falling into the snow again, Gregor will not be pulling you out again."
Shamelessly mentioning friends for the win...
Yeah, it took way too fricken long to get this teensy weensy chapter uploaded. I was lazy and just flat out said 'bugger FE and everything it stands for!' And then I got an idea... A horribly, dreadful idea. One that will make people cry... And rage...
It's time for someone to die.
