Okay, hopefully this chapter will be slightly more filling than the last one, but now that I know where I'm going to take the next exciting arc, we should be good to go. Now, I mentioned there would be a death didn't I? Well, I'm an evil little turd so that death is coming, but I kind of got negative feedback about the death already. So to compensate, there will be some more fluffy and warm cuddly stuff. Because everyone needs cuddles :)
Also, I would like to once again mention LeonPianta. The sheer amount of love I have for you is amazing. Every ounce of my love that hasn't gone to Lissa and Tharja is officially yours sir.
Flavia wasn't kidding about the chaos that was going on at Basilio's place. Wyverns were flying all over the darn place in every which way and didn't seem to care really where they went. Gregor and I had barely walked in the front door when we were almost knocked over by one sailing over our heads.
"What in the..! Why are the lizards flying crazier than a horse with too much drink?"
'Why does Gregor talk like someone from a poorly dubbed foreign film?'
"Keep your heads down!" Came Basilio's booming voice.
A large Wyvern gracefully landed beside Gregor and I, and Basilio nimbly jumped from its back.
"I wasn't expecting any company, sorry the place is such a mess!"
I looked worriedly at all the Wyverns that were obviously out of control.
"A mess? Don't you think you're putting it lightly?"
He guffawed.
"Sane, you need to relax. These Wyverns are perfectly controlled, nothing could possibly-"
"KHAN BASILIO SIR!"
One of the Feroxi soldiers came running around the corner with what looked like part of a harness clutched tightly in his hand.
"IT'S ESCAPED AGAIN SIR!"
Basilio's eyes widened.
"AGAIN?"
I was about to ask what had escaped when suddenly another Wyvern came flying out of seemingly nowhere, looking rather pissed.
"What the fu-!?"
I was yanked away from where I was standing and practically thrown behind a low stone wall by Basilio.
"Keep your head down, that Wyvern is dangerous!"
"Dangerous? I thought you said the Wyverns were under control?"
"Well..." Basilio smiled painfully.
"All but one."
"So what are we to be doing about mad flying lizard?" Gregor asked angrily.
"The two of you just stay here, I'll handle the Wyvern."
Suddenly, a loud cry erupted from one of the Wyverns.
"Oh dammit not again..." Basilio muttered.
I looked over the wall I was hiding behind and my eyes widened in shock.
"Is that Wyvern..?"
"Yes, every time she gets out of her damn cage she goes after the other males."
"She?"
My brain spun around in circles.
"Your Wyverns are being violated by a female?"
"Yes..." Basilio answered, almost sounding ashamed.
"And if we try to interrupt her it gets messy."
'Oh my... This is...'
"Um... Wow... Uh... So I totally came over to see what mischief I could cause, but I think that Wyvern is doing a good enough job..."
Basilio nodded.
"It's a shame too, if we can't get it under control we might have to kill it."
"What!? How could you say that?"
"It's a wild animal. It's a threat to us."
"Can't you just release it into the wild then?"
Basilio shook his head sadly.
"It's been bred specifically for being the mount of a Wyvern Rider, it wouldn't have the survival skills to make it in the world."
'Oh I disagree... I'm pretty sure it could carry on its lineage.'
"Has it ever attacked on of your people?"
Basilio shook his head.
"No, she'll cuff us if we piss her off, but she keeps her claws and fangs away from our squishies."
'And you're gonna kill her because of that? Bugger that and all it stands for!'
I stood up and hopped over the wall.
"Sane, what the hell do you think you're doing?"
"You said she's just cuffing people right? Then I should be fine."
I said I'd be fine, but in reality I wasn't too sure. The female was at least time and a half the size of even the bigger males in the room, and I could tell right away from the way she had mounted the male that she was actually injured.
"Hey thar..." I called up to her. "I'd hate to interrupt but I don't think, he's having too much fun."
The female Wyvern stopped what it was doing and swung it's massive head around to glare at me.
'Oh Gods... It's head is probably bigger than my body...'
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to look back at it, or look away so I compromised. I turned my head and looked at her at an angle. The Wyvern growled and opened its jaws wide, showing me its fierce teeth. I felt my legs shake and swallowed hard.
'Yeah... Not my best idea...'
The Wyvern then looked at something over my shoulder and growled even louder. I carefully looked behind me. Lon'qu was carefully creeping towards me and the Wyvern, one hand on his sword and the other reaching out towards me.
"Sane, back away from the Wyvern slowly. Don't make eye contact with her."
I nodded slowly and took a single step back. The Wyvern roared in anger and knocked me to the ground with a heavy paw. Lon'qu rushed forward to get me, but the Wyvern had other ideas. It whipped its tail around and struck Lon'qu in the torso. He was knocked on his side and tried to stagger to his feet. The Wyvern moved on top of me and laid down. It wasn't putting its whole weight on me, but it was putting just enough that I was having trouble breathing.
"Get off me, I'm not an egg!"
A few Feroxi soldiers rushed forward but Basilio stopped them.
"Sane, are you alright?" He called.
"I'm fine, a little sore but she didn't hurt me."
For several tense moments, no one did anything, they just stared at the Wyvern.
"Alright..." Basilio said after a while.
"We're going to leave, back off. Sane, as soon as that Wyvern moves, wiggle out from under her and scoot over to the door on the east side of the room."
Slowly, Basilio, Gregor, Lon'qu, and the other Feroxi soldiers in the room left. The male Wyverns followed suit, but the female stayed where she was. She craned her neck down and looked at me. Her breathing was strangely like a dogs, except heavier and louder.
'Hold on... All of the Feroxi soldiers are men...'
"You must get pretty lonely huh?" I said quietly.
"Being the only lady surrounded by all these guys. Is that why you're so aggressive?"
The Wyvern continued to stare at me breathing.
"I think if I was a Wyvern, it would be weird if some guy tried to ride me. I'm not all that comfortable around men."
I tried to worm my way out from underneath the Wyvern. She growled but raised herself slightly. I stood up and looked at her, taking Lon'qu's warning about eye contact to heart.
"Basilio said you were bred to be a Wyvern Rider's mount, and that you don't have any survival instincts. Well, I'm sure you have them, and I'm sure you've got the muscle or whatever to survive."
'Here I am talking to a lizard like it can understand me... But I guess if Pokémon can understand their Trainers...'
"How about this: Why don't we hang out? Get close or whatever. I don't think I'll try and fly you or anything, but we can be friends and stuff. I can help you sharpen your claws, or help you get food... Or whatever a good person would do for a Wyvern."
The Wyvern cocked her head to the side and looked at me.
"Oh who am I kidding? It's not like you can understand me or anything. I mean, I'm talking kind of softly so maybe you know I'm trying to be friendly, but it's not like I could explain displacement and you'd comprehend it."
The Wyvern made a noise that sounded almost like a snort and rolled her eyes.
'Wait...'
"Can... Can you understand me?"
The Wyvern blinked slowly.
"Oh... My gosh... I didn't know that Wyvern's could really understand people... I'm sorry I was so ignorant."
I looked at her absently stuck out my tongue in thought.
'How many times have I dreamed about having a pet lizard or a snake that I could talk to? And that would understand me... This is so cool, like a dream come true almost. I wonder... I wonder if she'd like to be..?'
"Would you like to be friends? I might be a little ignorant about Wyverns... But I think it sucks that the people here are aggressive towards you. I won't be, I promise."
The Wyvern made a rumbling sound in her throat, and rested her chin on my head. She then lifted her chin off my head and playfully head butted my body. Since she was so big compared to me, it knocked me back a bit, but I was able to stay standing.
"Ah ha ha, alright okay I get it you're happy."
I carefully reached up and placed a hand against the scales on her neck. She felt cool to the touch, but a warm vein of life was throbbing under my hand.
"So what am I gonna call you then?"
I thought back to her mounting and violating the males.
"How about... I name you Ptera? Like, a really feminine Pterodactyl?"
She made another rumbling sound.
"Alrighty then, Ptera it is."
