Okay, it's been too darn long since I've put up a chapter, but I've grown away from the fandom, plus I have a job now so there's not really a lot of time for writing. Now, time for more tears and horrible people doing horrible things. This chapter contains character death, and a little bit of Sane going crazy... Seriously what was I doing with this story..?
Also, I can't remember if I mentioned it already, but Chrom and Sumia are married by this point in time. Also some other marriages? I can't remember my own story I am terrible...
Announcing the marriage caused one heck of a stir. Chrom especially seemed surprised, followed of course by Tharja. No one could believe Lon'qu actually proposed to me, or that I was getting married. Lon'qu and I had kept our romantic lives mostly private, only a couple people having even the smallest clue that we were technically a couple. There was instantly talk among the Shepherds about what the wedding was going to be like, and when, and who was going to be invited. It was a lot of questions all at once that I didn't have any idea how to answer. But at least Lon'qu didn't have much of an idea either.
Thankfully, after the first wave of confusion, we received a lot of support and advice on how to plan the wedding. Chrom set about securing a location for the wedding. Lon'qu and I both wanted a venue with relative privacy, but I wanted a large amount of open space. It was decided that the lake I enjoy swimming in would be the locale. Chrom really went all out helping me design it. I had been thinking about a traditional gazebo, but by the time he and I were done brainstorming, we had a plan for a floating platform on the lakefront with streamers and floral entwinements. It was girly for Lon'qu's taste, but after some puppy dog eyes he folded pretty easy. Hardly any of the wedding was planned by Lon'qu and I. We were mostly observers, occasionally offering advice.
Since everybody and their mother knew about the wedding, Lon'qu was willing to be more affectionate with me in public. We would walk through the town arm-in-arm and browse stores together. The weather was beginning to turn cold, and often Lon'qu would offer his coat to me since I was stubborn about getting my own coat. It's not that there weren't any I could get that were fashionable and warm, I just figured that I could wait and get one later. Livvy, strangely enough, agreed with me.
'It's hardly cold enough to bother. Besides, that man of yours seems all too willing to offer up his.'
Livvy grew more talkative as the days passed. It almost seemed like she was changing, becoming a better person, or maybe I was just oblivious? Her attitude became more pleasant. She didn't lose her snarkiness, but it had been a long time since she tried insulting me.
"Lon'qu would give me his coat in a blizzard." I murmur to her.
Livvy's only response was a dark chuckle.
A week before the wedding I was sought out by Bev. I had never seen her outside her shop, and I initially didn't recognise her. She had traded her mysterious cloak for a loose fitting leather top and linen pants. It was strange seeing her without her cloak. I had never gotten a good look at her before, I had only seen part of her face. Now I could clearly see her large amethyst eyes, and curly pink locks that fell to her shoulders. Her nose was crooked and had a scar running along the left side. She was thicker than I was expecting, but not unattractive. I actually had to mentally slap myself to stop staring at her. She had snakebite piercings and her lips were stained a light rose red.
"Hello Sane, it's been a while, hasn't it?"
She spoke in her usual seductive drawl, and bowed slightly.
"Ah... Indeed..." I mumbled.
She picked up on my tone of voice and smirked.
"Glad to see I still have such a way with you. It's been too long since we've had some to talk."
I tilted my head to the side.
"We've never really talked much outside of your tent."
Bev smiled.
"We have, you even gave me this. You said, consider it an invitation."
From a small pouch at her waist, Bev pulled out a small piece of paper. It looked old and worn, ten years old at least. She handed it to me with an unreadable expression. Curious, I took the paper and opened it.
"Impossible..."
Written on the paper was my own writing, my own language. It was a simple message, one that was surprisingly chilling yet amazing.
'It will be so hard to invite her, especially once what happens happens, but Bev should go to your wedding. The things that happen do so for a reason. So it goes.'
I carefully folded the letter and gave it to Bev. She put it back in her pouch and smiled.
"I understand you have a lot of questions. I'd answer them, but some things you need to learn for yourself."
I shook my head and chuckled weakly.
"Spoilers..." I mumbled.
And so Bev became a maid of honour.
The day of my wedding arrived.
My dress was a mass of lace and light fabric. It flowed over my body like a graceful veil and with each step I took it undulated like it was a living thing. My hair had been curled the night before and infused with a mix of floral oils. My makeup was faint, an accent rather than an attraction. I hadn't seen Lon'qu all day, in fact my only human contact had been Lissa, Tharja, and Bev.
The wedding wasn't going to be until sunset, but from dawn until after noon I was held prisoner by the women.
'Gods, is this what happened to Bella?'
Thankfully there was little effort required on my part and a majority of my day was spent nodding in and out of sleep while I was made up like a porcelain doll. Tharja oversaw my make up, Lissa my dress and accessories, and Bev busied herself with my hair.
She snipped the split ends and made it level before curling it into tight ringlets that bounced just above my shoulders. It looked almost painfully childish, but both Tharja and Lissa seemed to love it.
"They're so bouncy!"
"I'm impressed you managed to set them, as thick as Sane's hair is."
Looking in the mirror, I had to admit the curls were totes adorbs.
My heart beat faster the closer the wedding came. By the time I stood waiting at the altar waiting for Lon'qu, I was amazed that my heart hadn't burst from anticipation. The setting sun painted everything in a warm orange glow, and reflected off the small gems sewn into my dress. Heads turned to watch me as I walked down the aisle towards Lon'qu, who with his back facing me had yet to see me. I took the final steps to him and placed my hand gently on his shoulder. His head turned towards me and his face lit up in a brilliant smile.
"Sane... You're absolutely beautiful..."
We laced fingers and faced Libra, who was presiding over the ceremony.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to witness the union of two souls before a gathering of their closest friends, and before the graceful Gods themselves. Now, neither Sane or Lon'qu are much for waiting on things, so let's get right to the vows, shall we?"
Lon'qu nodded and turned to me.
"Sane. It was many months ago when we met. I was a misplaced man, and still am today. But in a way each of us is misplaced. From the day we enter this world we are swept away in a current of time and struggle. But no current goes unbroken. In this raging river of life I have found many sturdy rocks I call my comrades to steady myself upon, and you Sane, are on the other side of this great current waiting for me, and I am more than willing to swim towards you."
Lon'qu finished his vows by taking my hand in his and kissing it. I smiled and waited for Libra to prompt me to begin my vows. I had spent a lot of time thinking about what I was going to say, and hoped that I wouldn't mess it up.
"Here we are, trapped in the amber of the moment. There is no why. For the longest time, these words have been ones I have done my best to live by. I have also tried to believe all moments, past, present, and future, always have existed, always will exist. That being said, look at the amber of this moment. This moment will always exist, long after we don't. I want the amber of this moment to be one we remember as joyous and pure. I want the amber of this moment... I want the amber of this moment to be brighter than any other. To be better."
I placed a kiss on his hand also, and Libra smiled warmly.
"You may now kiss the bride."
Lon'qu leaned forward and cupped my lips drew closer, until they ever so slightly touched. His hand found itself pressed against my back as our kiss deepened and our friends cheered us on...
Until their cheers turned to screams as a bolt of lightning struck a nearby display and sent it crashing to the ground. I spun around and frantically searched where I thought the bolt came from and ducked with barely enough time to avoid another bolt that was launched right at my head. A horrible stench and moaning noise that I knew all too well as being Risen filled the air and I gripped Lon'qu in a panic. All around us things were suddenly chaos, with food and objects flying everywhere. From high above me I heard Ptera shriek and felt the ground shake as her massive body landed a few feet away from me and smash an approaching Risen with her massive tail.
'Shit, this is not good!'
"Lon'qu, stay put, I seriously doubt you brought a sword to our wedding, and I don't want you getting hurt. I'm going to have Sumia run back to the castle on her Pegasus and grab weapons for everyone. In the meantime, make sure no one does anything stupid."
I tried to turn away, but he gripped my arm.
"Sane, if those Risen showed up here, they obviously are being controlled by someone with half a brain. No doubt they'd be expecting us to go off and gather supplies."
"Well, what the heck are you expecting me to do?" I hissed at him.
Ptera roared and struck another Risen creeping up on us. Lon'qu looked at me with a guilty face.
"I might have snuck some weapons here in one of the covered carts." He admitted.
I looked at him with wide eyes and grabbed his head in a fierce hug.
"Oh you paranoid bugger, I love you!"
We both ran to the cart where our weapons were and quickly distributed them to our friends. The Risen easily doubled our number, and there were innocent villagers at the wedding who wouldn't be able to defend themselves out of a wet paper bag. I had Sumia, Sully, Stahl, Frederick, Lissa, and Gregor nearby and I began to give out orders.
"Frederick and Lissa! I want you with the townsfolk, keep them safe! Sully, Stahl and Gregor, cut down some of the bigger Risen, Fighters and Berserkers and such. Sumia, stay with me and Lon'qu but stay low, I don't know if there's any archers."
My comrades nodded and dispersed. Unfamiliar footsteps approaching made me draw my sword in defence and spin around. I was met by Bev, the glorious gown she wore cut crudely at the knees and holding a Tome and what looked to be some sort of polearm.
"Sane, forgive me for thrusting myself into the fight!"
I quickly analyzed her in confusion.
'What class is Bev? I've never seen a unit wielding a polearm before, maybe it's just some type of Spear?'
"It's fine Bev, stay here by me!"
She nodded and took up a defensive post on my left side. The ground shook from the sudden impact of Ptera landing beside me with an ashen torso in her gaping maw. She crunched the torso and roared, bits of flesh flying into the air. Four sword-bearing Risen suddenly came running at us, two from the front and one from each side. Before I could bark an order, Bev rushed forward with her Polearm facing a downward angle and cutting a trail through the grass. Once she was close enough to the Risen to attack, she swung her weapon in a wide arc. The Risen were quick enough to jump back and rush Bev while she recovered her balance from her attack.
Panic quickly exploded in my chest, and I instinctively focused my magic on Bev, but she was in no need of my help. She jabbed the tip of her weapon into the ground and used the momentum to launch herself into the air. She threw her arms wide, and large chunks of ice rained down on the Risen, shredding them where they stood. When Bev landed, she quickly grabbed her weapon and sliced the remaining two Risen cleanly in two. She turned to me with a frenzied grin.
"Remember what I'm capable of for when we meet Sane." She told me.
The meaning of her words was lost on me, and in the frenzy of the battle raging around us I had no time to dwell. Glancing around it seemed like everyone who couldn't fight had been evacuated, and some soldiers from the castle were starting to arrive. The Risen were doing too good a job of holding their own and I broke away from the main fray to see if I could find someone controlling them. Near where the table had been holding my wedding cake was a large man in strange armour.
'Is that..? A Dread Knight? Since when are they enemies?'
'That man gives me a bad feeling. You shouldn't fight him, Sane.'
I ignored Livvy's murmurs in my ear and approached the man.
"Who are you?" I demanded.
He turned to me and fixed me with a glare that penetrated me even through his mask. In his hands he held a Dark magic Tome, and on his belt was a Brave Axe that had a strange azure glow. He raised the axe to me and angled his body offensively.
"You wouldn't remember me. But I have been promised my vengeance, and I will have it."
The man charged at me with more speed than I was expecting for someone his size. I easily stepped around him and launched a bolt of magic his way. It collided with his armour with an audible smash, but he was unfazed. He countered with a magic bolt of his own that struck me in the center of my chest. I was knocked down by the blow and landed hard on my back. The man was quickly on me, leaping high into the air and swinging his axe right for my head.
'NO!' A voice roared in my head.
A sudden explosion of dark magic barely managed to deflect the axe and send it mere inches from my ear. I rolled away from the man and clambered onto my feet, sword drawn.
'Of course, Dread Knights have ridiculous Res. No wonder that spell didn't affect him...'
'Run away Sane. This man has you beat in terms of Speed and Attack. Let someone else fight.'
There was an edge in Livvy's voice, something I couldn't quite place. Fear? Concern?
The man rushed forward again. I held up my sword to defend myself from a blow that staggered me. He was too quick for me to keep up, I could barely manage to get my sword in a defensive position to keep myself alive. Four strikes, five, six. It was too much, my sword was knocked from my hands and I tumbled with it. The man delivered a powerful kick that left me gasping for breath and tasting blood. A second kick caused me to vacate the many snacks I had eaten nervously waiting for the ceremony to begin, and a third left me numb on the ground.
"You're weaker than I would've thought. I'm almost disappointed to have my vengence."
The axe raised above my head. I tried to get away, but I was too hurt. I couldn't move fast enough. I was going to go down fighting dammit. I kicked him in the knee and he staggered. He readjusted his grip on his axe and started to bring it down again when he was tackled away by Bev. Her weight and force sent him sprawling to the ground and his axe flying past me. I was pulled to my feet by Lon'qu and he dragged me away.
"Come on, we need to get you out of here."
I was losing consciousness fast. I saw Bev grappling on the ground with the strange man, Risen dropping like flies around us, and Lon'qu's arms securely wrapped around me. My vision faded to black, sounds faded away. The last thing I heard before losing consciousness completely was a loud shriek and a death gurgle from the direction Bev and the man had been fighting.
So yes. I still occasionally write for this story xD Sooooooo sorry for the 65 million year wait between updates yo.
