Disclaimer: I do not own Vampire Knight. Do you really think I'd be on Fanfiction if I did?
His throat burned like an unholy fire layered under his skin, in his veins. His breath scraped out like paint flaking off of a wall. Everything burned. He was so hungry. Zero tossed and turned on his bed, hands shaking as he fought the urge to claw at his throat. The Hunter's Seal on the left side of his neck was glowing an angry red, his eyes mirroring the color in his thirst. His fangs were out. He could feel them against the smooth inside of his lip. Yuki… He needed Yuki. It was so sick, so selfish of him to want to feed on her.
He was disgusted with himself, every animalistic fiber of his being wanting to feel her warm blood rushing down his parched throat, her body in his arms and her neck bared to him. He longed for the slide of his fangs into her skin. Longed for the smell of chocolate and lilacs and her unique scent to fill his nose. He wanted to drink her in and mark her as his all at the same time. He hated the creature inside him that lusted for blood, that wanted the girl in ways considered impure. Yuki… He always did this. Starved himself after ignoring his hunger for so long, practically out of his mind with it. Sometimes he even blacked out and found himself in a place he didn't remember walking to. That's another thing that scared him the most. He could attack Yuki and not remember doing it.
However, before he knew it, he found himself barging into Yuki's room before she'd even had the chance to open the door. Had he knocked beforehand? "Zero? What are you doing in here this late? Zero? What's wr—ah!" Her voice was so concerned and caring. It made him feel so much more guilty, choking him like a chain he couldn't see, nor rip off. All he knew then, was that he could hear her blood rushing through her veins, her heartbeat hammering against her chest as he grasped her shoulders and backed her into the wall by the door. The sound of her breath as it left her lungs upon impact with the wall, cutting off the rest of her sentence. He was hyper-aware of her.
He noticed that she had moved her short chocolate locks to the side, exposing her creamy neck to him. Zero bared his fangs, held her close, and bit down. Her sharp inhale of pain caused a phantom dagger of fresh guilt to stab him. But his hunger was too much by then. The creature inside was delighting in the blood it was finally getting, while Zero could do nothing but sate it. Yuki seemed to relax in his arms, and the human part of him relaxed in turn, relieved.
He forced himself to stop before he possibly drained her, pulling back and wiping his red-stained lips with the sleeve of his jacket. He felt his fangs shrink, the beast retreating back into the farthest recesses of his subconscious for another day. He mentally wished it would just disappear. That it would stop making him hurt the girl he loved. Yuki stared at him, her hand coming up to cup her new wound. Zero always expected her eyes to be shining with betrayal, or anger… But they were always soft, understanding… Sad. Zero's own silver irises bore into her rich chocolate, before she took his hand with a gentle firmness that only she seemed to possess.
She led him to the bathrooms, and he could only follow. He would follow her just about anywhere. "Zero. Why are you always starving yourself? You know I'm here whenever you need me," Yuki murmured once they were safely in the bathroom, the door locked behind them. The silver haired hunter pursed his lips, watching as she located the first aid kit, and began applying light bandages in the mirror. He stood, hovering behind her. "You already know why, Yuki. Don't act dumb," Zero narrowed his eyes at her slightly. Yuki just shook her head softly as she finished with the bandages, and turned to him. All Zero wanted to do was draw her into his embrace and never let go. It had been that way ever since he realized what he felt for her surpassed simple friendship.
The only thing holding him back was that damn Kuran, and it was still one of the reasons he couldn't now. She still harbored affection for him. He could still taste it in her blood, sense it in the way she would glance the Pureblood's way every time he passed them in the mornings, and at night. Zero was positive that, regardless of his relativity to Kaname in terms of not being human, he loved her much more purely than Kaname ever would. He just wished Yuki would realize that he was there for her, truly. He was jarred out of his pondering by her voice. "I'm here to help you, please let me… We're friends, Zero. I wish you would stop pushing me away." She was still staring at him with that same gaze. It made him feel vulnerable, so very vulnerable, but he found that in these instances… He didn't care so much.
"This is more than I deserve," Zero replied, looking her straight in the eyes. Yuki's brows knit. He continued, "Yuki, I'm a bloodthirsty monster just like those Level E you've seen. I'm not human any longer. Why do you still treat me as if I am? I know you're still afraid of vampires. Now, I'm a vampire as well. You can't tell me you're not afraid of me." Yuki stepped forward, never breaking eye contact. "I'm not afraid of you, Zero. Not anymore. You're wrong, you're still the same Zero I've always known. I've told you this before. Why don't you believe me?" Zero stared at her, conflicted just like he always was when this came up. He had nothing to say except, "Because I keep hurting you." Yuki shook her head at him and walked past him. "I'll always forgive you," is her soft answer before she leaves the bathroom. Zero stood there. "That's why… I don't deserve you," He murmured to the silence of the room, the shadows cowering beneath the light.
Yes, I know. I'm sorry I abandoned this fic for the longest time. I just lost inspiration, and fell out of the fandom. But I decided, I'm not busy so why not give my poor followers to tide them over. Pleaseforgivemeohmygod—
