guess who`s back ;)

"Jane?"

"Yeah?"

"Umm… I know it's none of my business but I was wondering….um…uh...there is...uhh….someone in my class named Jane but she never actually came to class and … I thought uh…" Maura didn't even know if she should be bringing this matter right now but that question always seemed to pop up in her head whenever she was around Jane. Jane on the other hand an amused smile on her face as she started shaking her head slightly to keep from making fun of Maura right now

"You thought that it might be me?" Jane said with a slight smirk as she turned her head to Maura, Maura nodded with her cheeks turning a light shade of pink. Jane shrugged "yeah that's probably me" she said carelessly

"So …uhh... why don't you ever come to cla-"

" I`m thinking of dropping out of school" Jane said as if thinking out loud with her eyes now trained on the sky, not meeting Maura's .

Maura was just staring at Jane with wide eyes when she spoke again

"Let's face it … I mean... that's what everyone expect from me isn't?" Jane mumbled turning her head away as if looking at something cross the street when she was actually avoiding Maura gaze

"But …why?" Maura asked innocently, not fallowing what Jane meant

"Never mind" Jane offered a smile as she turned to face Maura. It was not the time to remember this... it's the time for her to forget and just be with Maura.

Maura and Jane both walked tougher to Jane's house, Maura was still at a bit of a lose to notice the car with two men inside it parked near Jane's house. Jane on the other hand didn't miss it and only glanced its way giving the two men a look of anger and defines just before letting that look melt away when she brought her eyes back to Maura's pretending to be listening to what Maura was saying when she had no idea what language Maura was talking in, but she was sure as hell it was not English. Yet for some reason she seemed happy while taking so Jane just let her finish her encyclopedia talk with a smile plastered to her face .truth be told, it wasn't a fake smile. Jane simply couldn't take it off her face; somehow just knowing that Maura was happy made her happy.

They both made it inside the house with Maura's excitement to see Angela now turning into nervousness. Jane couldn't help but grin, she never thought that anyone would be nervous to meet her mother like this. Maura was etherizing between biting her nail to fidgeting with her fingers – both things she never did before.

"Ma I'm home!" Jane shouted into the house before she walked up to the counter looking though the mail lying there. "I brought Maura with m-" she shouted again before her voice died in her throat. Maura who was looking for a movement turned her head slightly to see Jane curse under her breath and then take a certain letter before placing the others back on the counter. Maura could see from Jane's shoulder the name 'Janie' written in neat hand writing over the envelope.

Jane didn't even bother to open it, simply shoving it into her pocket. Maura was about to say something when "Maura!" Maura turned just in time to be involved in a tight hug from Angela "oh honey, what happened! Why did you run! Are you ok? Do you still have a fever? Oh gad you gave us such a fright!" Angela's hands where all over Maura, from her forehead checking for fever to her cheeks bringing Maura's line of sight to her face until her hands finally found their way back to Maura's back and brought Maura to another bone crushing hug .

Maura didn't even have an idea of what she was supposed to say, to do. She wanted her body to react but it wouldn't so she just stood there letting Angela compete her inspection with the river of questions running out of her mouth. Maura's mouth was opening only to be closed again without any words coming out except for some weird sounds from her throat; her mouth kept closing and opening with her eyes turning from Angela to Jane and from Jane to Angela as if pleading Jane to help her. Jane swallowed the laughter that threaten to burst out in the sight of Maura like this

"Ma your head is about to explode from these entire question. let the poor thing be , look at her she`s about to have a panic attack for gads sake" Jane couldn't help the few giggles that escaped her throat as she talked and the wide grin she had on as she motioned at Maura.

"she`s not going to have a panic attack" Angela made a face at her daughter before turning again to Maura "are you?" she said worried

"n-no?" Maura answered a little unsure. Angela let out a sigh of relief

"Ok. Come on in and have a brownie. They`re fresh out of the oven" she said in an upbeat tone and lead the way to the kitchen , Jane gave Maura an amused look before both of them fallowed her mother to the kitchen where the smell of the home made brownie was filling the air

"So Maura how is school?" Maura and Jane both had a blat in front of them on the table while Angela was holding a cup of coffee in her hand

"It's good. I actually just found out that Jane and I have a class together" Maura replied happily

" oh, well that great honey" Angela looked genially happy for Maura "maybe you can try dragging this one to class with you" Jane was clutching her jaw hard as her mother started talking. It seemed like a normal conversation but Jane knew where it was about to lead, why did she have to bring that up now! yeah sure, class with Maura might be interesting but Jane went back to reality in time to her what her mother was saying "- Janie hadn't been in a classroom ever since w-" Jane stood upright suddenly with such force that her chair almost got knocked over and causing her mother to stop talking and Maura to flinch

"Toilet" she stated before she gave her mother an angry look as if warning her of what might happen if she kept going with this. Maura watched the with confused eyes as Jane left the room with closed fists to her sides. Angela let out a sigh before attempting to smile again at Maura, Maura however could see that her eyes where glassy with unshed tears

"That's what happens if you have a teenage kid right?" Angela wanted it to be upbeat but instead it came out with a bitter tone. Angela started tapping gently on the edge of her cup as she watched the steam rise slowly. The moment was shortly cut by a sharp bark. Maura looked up to see a small dog coming their way. The small dog stopped at Maura's chair and wiggled its tale

"That's Jo Friday. Jane's dog" Angela said with a small smile. Maura slowly reached for the dog and started petting it.

"There is no getting though to that girl" Angela said quietly. Maura didn't turn her head to the older woman; instead she kept her eyes on the small dog and kept her slow brushes on her head.

"I`d give anything just to know what`s in her mind, why does she do these things .sometimes I think it makes her happy to see me frustrated.. Why didn't she say anything to me about it? Why won't she talk me about it" Angela let out another sigh, it felt like it's the only thing she`s good at right now "I'm tired of all of this" she mumbled to herself but Maura still heard it and silence filled the house

Jane was leaning on the wall separating her from Maura and her mom, she never went to the bathroom, she wanted a time out of all of this but she still needed to make sure that her mother didn't say more than she needs to. she can hear her mother`s voice, it sounded tired. She couldn't blame her, if her own father couldn't handle it and left, how can her mom handle it? Jane's eyes were dark, darker than what they usually were. She knew her mother was going to have a breakdown sooner or later; the question was what will happen if she got too tired of putting up with Jane anymore?

"Perhaps" Maura's voice brought both Angela and her daughter out of their thoughts "perhaps she couldn`t tell you. She was afraid of what you might think of her. She was frightened" Maura started softly "she was scared...so scared….and didn't want anyone to know her weak and cowardly side…. So she made a barrier around her mind to hide it"

"So she made a barrier around her mind to hide it" the voice echoed in Jane's head , she remembered herself chocking on her own sobs with her scared hands covering her face in a corner inside her own room

"She hated herself, and was so ashamed of herself. She thought 'maybe mom will pity me too, just like everybody else does' she thought so all along. She couldn't help thinking that way….. Perhaps that's why she can`t talk to you. The scariest thing … the most painful thing is… to be pitted by someone you truly love" Jane was now leaning her full body weight on the wall, she felt like her legs couldn't support her anymore.

"If you will excuse me, I should be going home before it becomes dark. Thank you for the brownies they were delicious." Maura stood up politely and walked out of the kitchen, leaving Angela there nursing her cup. She passed the wall that Jane was leaning on and stopped for split of a second but didn't turn to Jane. She looked as if she was trying to make a decision. Turn and face Jane to say goodbye or respect her pricey. "I'll see you tomorrow" she said to the floor before making her exit

Jane stood there for a few moments before taking a step to be in her mother`s line of view. Jane was rubbing her hands looking at the floor before slowly raising her head to meet her mother`s heartbroken gaze. Jane looked at her mother with pleading eyes, begging for something that she herself didn't know

"Jane" her mother pleaded, Jane shook her head silently telling her mother not to come closer.

"I'm sorry" Jane chocked out before letting out a shredded breath, hoping it would make it easier not to cry.

"It's not your fault" Angela whispered as a single tear escaped her eye. Taking a breath she aimed for a stronger voice "none of this is your fault sweetie, you need to understand that ok?" Jane shook her head again, not believing what her mother was saying

"It is my fault" she pressed the heel of her hand into her eye "daddy..." she couldn't even say it

"Your dad is a grown man and responsible for his own decisions, you had nothing to do with it. Do you understand me?" she hoped that her voice carried enough confident to convince her daughter as she took the final step to her daughter and held her. Jane didn't even have the strength to fight her mothers embrace and finally relaxed into her mother's arms. "We`ll gets though this… I promise" her mother whispered into her ear as she gently rocked both of them.

"How about another brownie?" Angela said after a few minutes passed with her holding Jane. Jane started giggling as she pulled away from her mother

"Really ma? A brownie?" Jane said with weak smile as she stopped wiping her face, Angela shrugged returning the smile

"What? A brownie never hurt anybody" Jane let out a chuckle and nodded. Angela gave her daughter a side hugs as they made their way back to the kitchen
