Diary Of A Mad Man
Chapter 12, A New Patient For Sunflower
"I never thought I'd find my Bella," Rabastan said. "Fuck that sounds weird, I don't mean I wanted Bella," he assured their shrink hastily. "What I mean is I never thought I'd find my female best friend who I wanted to shag and marry. I guess I thought that shit only existed for Rod. I just never connected with anyone the way he and Bella did even way back when we were kids. Because I grew up around the best example of what true love should be, I wouldn't settle for less. It was always you know, very casual, my interactions with girls. I liked to shag but never connected enough to even want to date them."
"Why," Sunflower asked. The three Lestranges sat in a line on her couch while she sat across from them in an arm chair. This touch was a bit more personal than her sitting at her desk as she often did. Perhaps it was because Rabastan specifically wanted to talk today when he was usually nearly as reluctant as was Rodolphus.
Rabastan shrugged. "Because dating means you care enough to see them again and that you find their personality interesting. I never did to be honest." Sunflower didn't change expression, only nodding. Surely she'd heard far bloody worse from most if not all of her clients, Rodolphus thought, vaguely amused. "And this Marlene who you saved was clearly different," she said.
"Yeah," Rabastan said. "Neither of us planned it, but she was smart and funny and shags like a bloody tornado... Sorry," he muttered apologetically, actually flushing. Again Sunflower only nodded without changing expression. "Just I could imagine spending forever with her. Only it wasn't safe at the time for many reasons, all of which revolved around Voldemort. When we had to help save her by forgetting her, it was over.
Now she's back though, and now that I remember everything, things are basically just as they were. I mean everything is still the same only now there are additions." His face fell as he spoke that last bit and he shifted on the couch in clear discomfort. Rod tried not to smirk, because he knew what was coming. "She's just so mad now," Rabastan complained. "She even says she knows it isn't fucking reasonable but she's always angry at me anyway for shagging girls and being out of Azkaban and living life while she was still hiding out."
"But why did she stay hidden after Voldemort was clearly dead," Sunflower asked.
Rabastan shrugged. "Her family are perhaps as paranoid as ours I suppose. They weren't sure if they'd be implicated in anything for faking their own deaths. The government is so damned crooked, they were afraid of being suspected of being secret Death Eaters who still had useful information."
"Probably wise of them," Sunflower murmured, a brief cynical look crossing her face before it became impassive once again.
"She said she knows she's wrong to be angry at me, but can't help it," Rabastan said. "She's asking if she should come to see you, and I am fucking hoping so."
Sunflower chuckled. "Sure. I can see her as well. To be frank, compared to you three, her case seems pretty straight forward."
"Now how fucking professional is that," Rabastan demanded, flashing Sunflower an amused grin.
"Not very, but we've already crossed that boundary when I didn't turn you all into the Ministry for threatening to kill Muggles. I understood that you were mostly ranting, and didn't want to see you restrained again when you are at least trying."
Bellatrix flashed a wicked grin. "And the fact that you understand our struggle is appreciated."
"So what, she makes an appointment or something," Rabastan asked and Sunflower nodded.
"Great," Rabastan enthused. "I'll have her do that as soon as we get home. She can use our cell phone."
Sunflower arched her brows. "What? Is she there now?"
"Yeah," Rabastan said. "She's been staying with us. You know to catch up. It's been so long, and it's nice having her around even if she is unfairly angry with me over things that aren't my fault when all I did was save her life."
Sunflower nodded. "Your feelings are entirely understandable."
Rabastan smiled. "Sure they are. Cause they're right."
"Hers are understandable as well, however, even if illogical."
Rabastan's confident expression fell. "But why?" Rodolphus smirked, settling happily back into the sofa to enjoy the show. Rabastan was not nearly as sympathetic as he should be when Rodolphus was suffering from Bellatrix's emotions, so this right here was rare sweet justice!
"Feelings come from a different part of the brain than logic, and her feelings simply need to be allowed to express themselves until they aren't so strong anymore," Sunflower explained."It doesn't matter why, but the point is, she was alone and probably frightened and worried for you while you were out living your life. Right or not that hurts her."
"Yeah, okay, but there is nothing I can do about it, and it isn't my fault," Rabastan complained.
"And she surely knows this, which is why she has agreed to come and see me," Sunflower said calmly. She smiled. "It appears that she cares for you very much, though, so congratulations. I look forward to meeting her."
