The Queen's Revelation

Two days later, Niklaus returned to the Queen's chambers, his heart filled with both anticipation and apprehension. As he entered, he was greeted by the warm smile of the Queen, a smile that held a mixture of affection and familiarity, much like that of an aunt towards her nephew.

"Welcome back, Rogue Mikaelson," the Queen said, her voice gentle and inviting. "I have pondered your situation and considered the course of action that would bring resolution to both your desires and the needs of the crown."

Niklaus inclined his head, his eyes fixed on the Queen, eager to hear her verdict.

The Queen's gaze softened as she studied Niklaus, her eyes tracing the features that bore a striking resemblance to her own late brother, Ansel. She sighed softly, a hint of nostalgia tinged with sorrow.

"Niklaus, your story reminds me of a time long ago when my brother Ansel came to me with similar grievances," the Queen began, her voice carrying a touch of melancholy. "He, too, faced a crossroads between duty and love, and it created a great problem within our family."

Niklaus's curiosity piqued, and he leaned forward, urging the Queen to continue.

"Ansel, like you, had found love outside the confines of his royal obligations," the Queen explained. "He fell in love with a woman named Esther, who was married to Duke Mikaelson. Their secret union caused turmoil within the court, and it threatened to destabilize our family's legacy."

Niklaus listened intently, the pieces of the puzzle slowly falling into place. The Queen's revelation shed light on the hidden complexities of his own lineage and the untold stories that had shaped his existence.

"The solution we found then, and the one I offer you now, is twofold," the Queen continued, her gaze steady. "The first option is that you may marry Lady Caroline with my consent, but the two of you must leave society behind and into the new role of General. You shall take your fortunes and travel to the continent, away from the prying eyes and judgments of the court. Your love shall remain intact, shielded from the machinations of society and family."

Niklaus absorbed the Queen's words, his heart torn between the longing for a life with Caroline and the weight of abandoning his life and responsibilities he created for himself.

"The second option," the Queen continued, her voice carrying a note of gravity, "is for you to stay and take the title of King upon my passing. You already wield significant influence over society's elites, albeit through your own sinister methods and motivations. In many ways, you are already a ruler of high society, whether intentional or not."

Niklaus's eyes widened in surprise, his mind grappling with the enormity of the Queen's proposition. The thought of ascending to the throne, of becoming the next reigning monarch, seemed both daunting and enticing.

The Queen reached out, placing a hand on Niklaus's arm. Her touch carried a mixture of affection and hope. "Niklaus, my nephew how I have watched you grow over the years, I want you to consider the impact you can have as King. You possess the intelligence, charisma, and strength to lead this kingdom with wisdom and compassion. I always held out hope. You can bring about change, shape policies, and leave a lasting legacy."

Niklaus's mind raced, his emotions in turmoil. He had always seen himself as a rogue, an outsider playing the game of high society with his own rules. But now, destiny was calling him to a role far greater than he had ever imagined.

Taking a deep breath, Niklaus looked into the Queen's eyes, a newfound determination flickering within his own. "Your Majesty, I am honored and humbled by your trust. I will consider both options carefully."
