10 Summers Ago
It was another one of Alice's ostentatious pool parties. The garage floor of Whittler Mansion was filled with Yellow Lamborghini's, Red Ferraris', and blue McLaren's.
The pool splashed with rowdy teenagers and a swarm of girls in bikini's ooh-ed and aahed around the Queen-bee of Whitmore-High Aka Alice Cullen. These gatherings were a way to keep Alice in power. Not that she needed to do so. Not only was her family endlessly wealthy, she also drew every male gaze with her striking raven-haired beauty Still, I believe she basked under the endless attention these parties got her.
I on the other hand was perfectly content on the side-lines, lazing away on a swinging hammock, a book sheltering my face from the burning sun. While Alice, my best-friend, was the Queen-Bee, I was content being the nerdy wallflower. I shied away from large crowds and the only reason I was here was to pay my respects to my best friend.
I expected the day to be a typical floozy event. Hence, I was barely paying attention when the lazy energy in the air around me turned to one of vibrating excitement.
The swarm of girls buzzing around Alice swiveled their heads to turn their attention onto something else. Or rather someone else.
"Alice Cullen's back!" I heard one stage-whisper in excitement.
"He's so hot!"
"No way! Didn't he get kicked out?"
"I heard his dad donated 10 million dollars to get him back," Samantha said knowingly.
"I mean his dad is next president in line," Alice cooed. She jumps off her the pillows on her pristine white sofa and saunters toward the man who had everyone's attention. I couldn't blame them, only was Edward tall and broad, he was also supremely gorgeous with his moss-green eyes and auburn hair. He also had emanated a rebellious, edgy energy around him.
Turns out Edward too is excited to see her. "Alice!" He exclaims from afar, "long time my friend!"
Unfortunately, right that moment someone girl trips into him, sloshing her entire frothy bloody-orange drink onto him.
"WHAT THE FUCK?"
"I'm so sorry," the tiny little girl stammers. She looked so vulnerable and innocent.
"What sorry?" Ethan pushes her off him roughly. "What will your sorry do for me?"
"I'll buy you new shoes," she stammers.
"What?" Edward laughs out mockingly. "Do you even know how expensive these shoes are? You rentire being cannot even afford them. They're a one of a kind from Italy."
A crowd has formed around them by now. They were all snickering at the girl's state.
"I'm sorry," the girl continues to plead. "I'll do whatever you want?"
"Why don't you lick my shoes?" Edward offered. I wish he was being sarcastic.
What?" The girls bamby-eyes widen.
"What? What?" Edward mimics her at a high pitch. "I said lick them."
The girl looked like she was about to burst into tears.
I'd had enough. "Just stop," I yelled at Edward.
For the first time he looks at me, notices my mousy understated presence. His angry emerald eyes clash with mine.
"Who the fuck are you?" He spits in my direction.
"Hey!" Alice snaps at him; for the first time I was seeing her angry.
"How dare you?"Emmett hissed.
Even Jasper and Mike tense up, suddenly positioning themselves as two shields around me. I might have been a wallflower, but I was a very protected one. Everyone knew I was landmine territory.
Edward scans his surroundings, his face turning to stone as he realizes that he, for once in his life, has a losing hand.
Our eyes clash for a fiery moment before he turns around and leaves.
From that day onwards I was marked at his enemy number Uno.
