"Redfield to HQ. Can you read me!?" Clutching his shoulder, Chris scrambled back and rushed to leave the library.
What do I do? What do I do? I need to get to her!
"Loud and clear Chris. Status report," the monotone voice on the other side responded
"I need back-up and I need it now. I had eyes on Albert Wesker but I've lost him. My partner is missing too. I need medical support now!"
"Our ETA is 10 minutes. Hang tight."
"That's too long. She's severely injured." The tears in his eyes began to blur his vision and he did his best to find his way out of the goddamn maze of a house.
"There's not much we can do. We'll be landing near the extraction point. Your orders are to meet there."
"Goddammit. There's no time. Get me a team. NOW." He ran, waiting to receive confirmation. He never got one.
If it weren't for the blanket that was thrown over her, she would've been freezing. Slowly, her senses began to return to her. Her fingertips brushed the surface she laid on. Her toes curled, trying to gain some heat back in her feet. Lastly, she tried opening her eyes; It felt as if they had been glued shut. The blanket was slowly lifted, exposing her left shoulder. A gloved hand wandered across her bare shoulder and pain flashed through it as she heard a crack.
She gasped and her eyes flew open. The lights were blinding but she needed to keep her eyes open. She wasn't alone and she needed to be on her guard. Turning her head to the left, her eyes settled upon a tall man. He was unnervingly still, watching her as he just stood there with his arms crossed. She turned her head back to scan the area. Whatever this was, it was quiet but she still wasn't sure. Fear started settling deep in her stomach but she figured she'd stay. No need to run out just yet.
Moving on their own, her hands raised and slowly crept around her head. It wasn't until she reached the back when the man finally spoke up.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," the man warned.
Her hands kept feeling around and only did she finally pull back when she felt the pressure in her head began to build up. Staring at her hand she found her fingertips stained with blood.
"Do you always do what you're told not to? That is exactly what got you in this situation." He sounded amused by his final comment.
"I-I uh. I'm sorry. Where are we? When did I get here?" She sounded breathless. He almost felt sorry for her. Almost.
"Dear heart, this isn't the time to play your little games." Now he sounded annoyed.
"I'm sorry. Dear heart? Are you my hu-" She was cut off by him standing up stiffly and walking closer to her.
"Am I to assume that you're speaking truthfully? Even you can't be stupid enough to try this charade."
"I-" She stayed silent, her blue-ish lips slightly parted as her mind raced, trying to piece together how she arrived here. "Please, I'm not-" Tears had begun to swell in her eyes and it took him a second to decide how he would get her to break this rouse she was attempting to pull off.
Very well, Redfield wants to play, we'll play. Not even she can hold this up for long.
"Very well then. You were working a case until you were betrayed by your partner," he waited for a reaction, knowing that any word spoken against her dear brother would cause the younger Redfield to jump to defend him. She didn't. Instead, her eyes widened and she looked ready to pass out, so he continued. "When it came time to apprehend the suspect, you were pushed through a window and landed on the outskirts of the mansion."
She stayed quiet, her mind racing trying to piece together what she could and planning on how to proceed.
If my partner betrayed me, who the hell is this guy? For all I know he's leading me towards danger. He could even be the one who put me here. I need to play this safe.
"If my partner betrayed me, where the hell do you come in? For all I know, you're just waiting for him to come finish me off."
"Dear heart, I don't waste my time with those unworthy of my attention. I'm slightly offended you don't even remember that. Now, for you to even suggest that I'd ever work with that buffoon again simply offends me."
"Wait. Again?" Her brows furrowed together as she waited for an explanation.
"Right. Before you dear heart, there was me. I was the last partner he had. And of course, it seems history has repeated itself. Like you, I was betrayed after uncovering his corruption."
Wesker waited for her to respond. He still wasn't entirely convinced
"What's his name and how do we find him?"
"Dear heart, if I have to explain everything to you now, we have to move. If he's still around he won't hesitate to finish us both off and you are in no condition to fight," he turned and pulled out clothes from the bag on the counter. Tossing them to her, he continued, "Put these on."
"If you're lying to me, and I find out, it won't end well for you." Claire clutched the soft material in her hands as she tried to muster up a threatening voice that would hopefully- yet unlikely- serve to prevent this man from betraying her.
Wesker couldn't help but smirk.
"Even in this state, the Redfield spark hasn't been smothered. Good, we'll need it. Now if you would." He motioned for her to get dressed.
Claire moved to stand and her knee buckled slightly. In an instant Wesker was at her side, holding her by the waist. Even with her slight hypothermia, it wasn't easy to miss the deep red that was rising to her cheeks. "Thanks- uh- sorry you haven't told me your name."
He backed away from her but took one of her hands. She looked up into his shaded eyes and gave him a small smile as he raised her hand to his lips.
"My name is Albert Wesker. Claire Redfield, it's an honor to have you."
