The Truth
Dipper woke up on a couch, in an unfamiliar room, he looked around and saw Bill sitting on a chair beside the couch. "Look at that, the sleeping beauty had awoken."
"Where am I?" Dipper rubbed his eyes, after not sleeping for a long time due to the nightmares, and generally not needing sleep, he felt like he rested.
"You're in a house that I rented while being here as a human." Dipper looked at him questioningly. "Didn't you stay in the rooms near Death?" He stayed silent, most likely thinking about her. "Before she decided to take you."
Dipper tried to imagine Bill pretending to be a human, maybe even enjoying his time being one. "Since she's gone now, our powers are going to leave, I'll be a bit sad not to be able to make things out of thin air anymore."
"Dipper, she's not dead." Dipper stayed quiet, his lips pursed tightly. "You said we can kill her if her core is destroyed." Dipper could see guilt in Bills eyes, that was when Gideon and Mabel walked into the room.
"You have finally awoken."
"Yeah." Dipper couldn't look Mabel in the eyes, deep down he felt like he had betrayed her.
"Dipper, I will say it now before it gets in our way, I wanted her dead more than anyone else in this room, but I knew just as well she couldn't be killed." Dipper felt slight anger rise in him, he looked at Gideon, he didn't seem surprised at it.
"Did you know that Gideon?" Gideon too looked guilty at him.
"While being among the rest, I did ask about how she can be defeated, told them it was pure curiosity, after all a being that can freely give out power without fear of it being used on her? That would take an extremely strong creature." Dipper furrowed his brows, not sure what he was getting on about.
"Well, what I did find out was that she was freely giving out power because just coudln't be killed, she entertained herself by giving normal humans power, controlling us like marionettes and the ones that refused to follow the plot that she made ended up being wiped." He looked at Bill when he said the last line, clearly not wanting to say more about it.
Bill coughed. "I don't actually come from this world, just like the rest of the people you saw, I too come from a different realm, time and universe." Dipper hated how it piqued his interest.
"Which one?" He looked at Mabel, feeling guilty that he forgot about her, but she was absorbed in the story.
"It no longer exists, me and the second person who was granted power refused to follow the story she set for us, out of anger, she set the whole world on fire, not like this one, where she just asked her story followers to just trash the town, to get you to act." Bills voice cracked when he had to name the difference between what happened to his world and mine.
"You don't need to say anything more, I get it." He really did, he wouldn't be able to stand explaining it either. "I did fight her then, when for the first time in my life, I was not a coward and faced what I feared. I faced her and I lost and only a few centuries later did I find out why I lost." Dipper couldn't imagine Bill loosing, not with the power he displayed to him before.
"So why did you lose?" Mabel finally made herself known since the whole conversation started. "Because she didn't want me to win, she wanted my world gone."
"Why did you join her group even after what she did?" Bill stayed silent for a while, Dipper thought he won't answer how long it was taking him to say anything.
"I didn't, at first. I hated her and everyone who was helping her, but I was the only survivor of my world, I traveled universes by myself, until Death made me a universe that matched me, a dream universe, I was able to dream there and I spent a few centuries in there, I hated that I liked her gift, but it allowed me to escape my reality." Bill tapped his knees, occupying himself.
"But after a while, I guess my anger subsided, by that point I was able to experience so many dream worlds, that I felt like I lived multiple realities, even if deep down I knew it was never real, it was probably Death's plan as well, to make my anger subside so I would join her. When I thought she will never bother me again, she came to me saying that she created a world for me where I could live, it wasn't the same as mine, but it matched my soul."
"But it wasn't true?" Mabel innocently asked.
"No, she did tell the truth about the world matching my soul, but the world wasn't made for me, she made another world to toy with people there and if she didn't like it, then to destroy it."
"But she didn't, Dipper defeated her." Gideon and Bill didn't look at her or me.
"He destroyed her core and only because she allowed it." His words made him feel like all he did was useless, he got up and started walking away, he couldn't listen to it anymore.
When he left the house, he saw Gruncle Stan and his twin brother, it was still awkward to be near him, but he didn't care as he continued on, leaving the house behind him. He could hear the two calling him, but he ignored them.
He walked into the forest, hoping to get lost, but he soon realised that he wasn't able to get lost, no matter how deep he went, no matter how many times he spinned on the spot, he knew the exact way back.
So he decided to just sit and hope he was gonna eventually be forgotten.
