Hello all Storm here with a new chapter! And here we'll be seeing the start of May's training and learning to improve as a Trainer. As well as seeing her getting some new additions to her team. So, without further ado.
I own nothing
May followed her father back into the Gym Arena, where Norman started setting up different wooden posts.
"Alright May, send out Torchic and we can get started." Norman said, with the brunette nodding in response.
"Okay. Come on out, Torchic!" Said May, throwing the Pokéball as Torchic emerged.
"Tor! Torchic?" Torchic looked around to see if they were battling again, only to see May and Norman along with the training posts set up.
"Now then, the first part of your training will be working on refining and mastering Torchic's current moves." Said Norman, making May look at him in confusion.
"Refining and mastering Torchic's moves? But she can attack just fine." May said, wondering how Torchic could master her moves when she can use them without any issue.
"There's a difference between Pokémon that just use attacks and those that mastered them. Here let me show you, you're up Slakoth!" Norman said, grabbing one of his Pokéball's and releasing the Pokémon inside, with May recognizing the Slakoth.
Slakoth is a brown, quadrupedal Pokémon with sloth-like qualities. It has coarse, shaggy fur with two dark brown stripes on its back. There is a scruff of fur on top of its head, and it has a large, pig-like pink nose, pink eyelids, and dark rings around its eyes. It has long, lanky arms, but shorter legs. Each paw has two sharp claws, and there are pink paw pads on the back feet. Its underbelly and rear are also pink.
"Oh, Slakoth." May said, pulling out her Pokédex and scanning Slakoth.
"Slakoth, the Slacker Pokémon. Slakoth is generally found sleeping and very few ever witness it in motion."
"Slakoth." Slakoth lazily scratched its head before looking at Norman.
"Slakoth, use Scratch on that post right there. Hold nothing back!" Norman said, pointing at one of the posts, making Slakoth look as its gaze suddenly sharpened.
"Sla…koth!" Slakoth raised its paw before May was shocked as Slakoth shot forward, swiping its claws across the training post.
Her shock only growing to see Slakoth had nearly slashed right through the post, making her look at the Slacker Pokémon as its droopy, tired expression returned.
"Tor…" Torchic also looked shocked and amazed at seeing how powerful Slakoth's Scratch was.
"Now you try it, May." Said Norman, snapping May out of her shock as she nodded shakily.
"R-right. Torchic, use Scratch on that post there!" Said May, pointing at a post, with Torchic narrowing her eyes.
"Torchic! Tor-chic!" Torchic rushed forward and jumped at the post, scratching her talons across it.
With May seeing that while Torchic did leave marks on the post, they were nowhere even close to the ones Slakoth made.
"This is the difference, May. I train each of my Pokémon to master their attacks, even ones as basic as Scratch can deal a lot of damage. Not to mention I need to make sure their attacks count, since Slakoth's and my Slaking's abilities make it so they only follow every other command, so I also make sure they're fast enough to hit opponents before they can dodge." Norman explained, making the brunette nod in understanding.
"So, by having Torchic refine and master her attacks, they'll grow even stronger." May stated, with Norman nodding as well.
"That's right, and the stronger they get they could grow into other moves, for instance if Torchic practices enough with Ember, it could develop into Flamethrower, a much stronger Fire-type attack. Not only that, but by training your Pokémon to master their attacks, that strength will transfer over when they evolve, making it so their evolved forms are even stronger than they normally would be." Said Norman, much to May's amazement and excitement that Torchic could grow even stronger.
"However, it's also important that you train your Pokémon to show restraint rather than simply letting them go all out every time. Since while making them strong is important to win battles, you want to avoid doing anything that would seriously injure your opponent's Pokémon as there's a difference between beating them and being unnecessarily brutal." Norman added in warning, not wanting his daughter to end up unintentionally brutalizing Pokémon because her own didn't hold back.
This made May's excitement dwindle slightly and gulp, while nodding in understanding, not wanting to end up in a battle where she'd go too far in attacking.
"So…I just have Torchic use her attacks on that posts to help her improve them." Said May, her father nodded in response.
"Yes. But not just that, if you can see the way I set up the posts all over, I want you to have Torchic move around to different posts in the room. This way you'll also train her speed and stamina, along with her strength. Given that Torchic's evolutions are built to hit fast and hard, it's important to focus on improving Torchic's strength and speed early on." Said Norman, knowing both Combusken and Blaziken were incredibly fast and physically strong Pokémon.
"Right! Okay Torchic, use Scratch on that post over there and I'll call out where to use it next!" May said, pointing to another post.
"Tor!" Torchic nodded before quickly running as fast as she could at the post, jumping up and scratching her talons across it.
"You have to run too, May." Norman stated with a smirk, making the brunette blink and look at him.
"Huh…why do I have to run? We're just training Torchic." Said May, wondering why she needed to run too.
"No, we're training both of you to be prepared for your Journey. You won't always have a clear path to follow May, there'll be times on your Journey where you'll be glad to be in top shape. Plus, it'll be good for you to train alongside your Pokémon, encouraging them by seeing you willing to work with them. So, while you have Torchic hitting the posts, you'll be running around the Gym and doing some other exercises." Explained Norman, May sighed at hearing this but also couldn't fault her father's logic.
"And try calling out different attacks for Torchic to use, don't just focus on Scratch. It'll help with switching attacks at a moment's notice." Norman said, with May nodded in as she began running around the Gym while having Torchic attack the different posts, making sure to have her switch between using Scratch, Peck and Ember.
With Norman watching from the side, giving some advice every now and then to help May improve.
*Later*
Once the sun had gone down, Caroline arrived to tell her husband and daughter that dinner was ready, ending the training session, much to May's relief with how tired she felt.
"You did very well for your first day May, and you'll only get better the more you and Torchic train." Norman stated, smiling at his daughter.
"Thanks dad. I'll be sure to do my best while I'm here." Replied May with a smile as well.
"Now though, we should work on a training schedule since you'll also be working with your mom and Max as well. I believe that each morning you'll work with your mom to learn the basic necessities of being a Trainer, before then working with Max to learn everything else you'll need to know about being a Trainer, taking break once it's lunchtime. After that you'll keep training with me to work on yours and Torchic's physical abilities, along with mastering Torchic's attacks. Does that sound good to you, May?" Asked Norman, looking at her, with May thinking over the schedule before nodding in response.
"Yeah, that seems like it'll be good, giving me a good amount of time for everything." May said, happy with the schedule, knowing it'll give her time to train and learn with her family.
"Glad to hear it. One other thing is that you should look to try and catch some Pokémon on Route 102 and Route 104. Which won't only give you a bigger team to use in battles rather than only using Torchic, it'll also help you get started on raising and training other Pokémon as well." Norman said, making May grimace slightly, thinking of her failed attempt to try and catch an Azurill.
"Okay, I'll try and catch some other Pokémon." Said May, while hoping her next attempts at catching Pokémon ends better than the first time.
"Oh yeah! That reminds me, I've seen some reports that Pokémon native to other regions have been seen popping up around Hoenn more frequently. So there's a chance you'll be seeing Pokémon that you wouldn't normally find here." Said Max, remembering the reports he saw of different Pokémon being seen more frequently around Hoenn.
"Thanks for the information, Max. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for any strange looking Pokémon." May said, thankful for the information, feeling curious on just what kind of non-native Pokémon she might encounter.
*Later*
After finishing dinner, May went up to her bathroom to take a shower, feeling relieved to remove her dirty clothes from her training, sighing happily once she stepped under the water.
'When I asked for training, I didn't think I'd actually be training myself. But I asked for it, so I have to do it if I want to get better as a Trainer.' May thought while washing her arms, only to bite her lip when she began washing her stomach and breasts.
Making the brunette look down, having always taken pride in being an early bloomer with her developing curves and breasts growing to now be a high C-cup. Before May shivered and suppressed a moan when she brushed her fingers across one of her nipples.
'It feels like they grew a little bigger.' Thought May, cupping her breasts and gave them a squeeze, feeling like they did grow a little since last time she checked.
'I may need to get some new underwear soon, maybe I'll find some really cute sets in the other cities and towns.' May thought, always loving to see how she looked in new sets of lingerie and really liking the sets that showed off her body with May acknowledging she might be a bit of a narcissist, but she couldn't help it, she loved seeing how hot she looked.
Giving her breasts another squeeze, May bit her lip as she began rubbing her thighs together, feeling a familiar heat building between her legs. Not even realizing her hand began drifting down until she moaned when it brushed against her clit. Making the brunette quickly hold her hand out and shake her head.
'No! No, bad girl! Down May! Stay focused on getting clean and not letting your entire family hear you!' May thought, resisting the urge to go further and just focused on getting clean, knowing she'll have plenty of time to do it after leaving to continue her Journey.
Suppressing her urges to go further for the moment, May continued washing herself and rinsing off her body once she was done. Stepping out of the shower, the brunette wrapped a towel around herself and another around her hair before going into her room to dry herself off. Pulling out some clean underwear and her pajamas before doing so.
Once she was dried off, May slipped on her underwear, having picked a dark pink and white striped set while feeling her bra squeezing her breasts.
'Definitely will need new bras soon. Panties on the other hand…' May thought looking at herself in the mirror, smirking as she turned around, seeing how her ass was shown off as she moved her hand along it before giving it a light spank.
'I really do look good.' Thought May, winking at her reflection before putting on her pajamas.
Though before she got into bed, May grabbed Torchic's Pokéball and let her out, making the Chick Pokémon look around in confusion.
"Torchic?" Torchic looked at her Trainer confusion, seeing they weren't battling and in what she guessed was May's room.
"Come on Torchic, it's time for bed." May said, smiling at her Starter as she picked her up and climbed into bed.
"Chic-Torchic!" Torchic was surprised before happily cuddling against May, making the brunette's smile grow as she held Torchic.
"Goodnight Torchic." Said May said as she laid down while holding the Fire-type close.
With it not being long after the two fell asleep that Norman and Caroline checked on their daughter and smiled in delight upon see her and Torchic asleep.
"It seems Torchic is really helping May with her problems with Pokémon." Norman said, both of them being aware that May had issues with Pokémon and were glad to see it looks like she's getting over them.
"Yeah. They look so cute together, I'm sure soon enough May will really be excited to be a Trainer and catch plenty of new Pokémon." Said Caroline, happy their daughter was starting to open up about being around Pokémon.
*Next Day*
"So…Normal-types are immune to Ghost-types, but Ghost-types are also immune to Normal-types. How does that work?" May asked as she sat across from Max, raising a brow in confusion.
With the siblings currently going over the different Pokémon types, the ones they're strong against, weak against, and the immunities they have. Though May had been confused when they got to Ghost-types, which are immune to Normal-types, but Normal-types are also immune to Ghost-types. Wondering how two types could be immune to each other.
"It's because all Ghost-types are incorporeal, so they can't be hit normally by physical attacks with Fighting-type and Normal-type attacks consisting of basically all physical attacks. But the same is true for the reverse, because Ghost-types are incorporeal they have no way of hitting Normal-types with Ghost-type attacks. It's like how mortals and spirits can't hurt each other, anything done just passes right through them. It's also why Ghost-types are weak to themselves since only ghosts can attack other ghosts." Max explained, with the brunette slowly nodding in understanding.
"And Torchic would be weak to Water-types obviously, since she's a Fire-type." Said May, knowing enough that water beats fire.
"Not just Water-types, Fire-types are also weak to Ground-types and Rock-types since things like rocks and dirt could be used to smother a fire. But Fire-types are also strong against plenty of other types, including Ice-types, Grass-types, Bug-types and Steel-types, all of which would be weak to Torchic's Fire-type attacks. But she'll gain new strength and weaknesses once she evolves." Said Max, confusing May again.
"Wouldn't Torchic just stay a Fire-type once she evolves?" May asked, only for Max to shake his head.
"She'll stay a Fire-type, but Torchic's evolutions are dual types, becoming Fire/Fighting. That'll make it so she'll be effective against Dark-types, Normal-types and Rock-types as well, along with being even stronger against Ice-types and Steel-types. And while Torchic won't be weak to Rock-types anymore, she'll get new weaknesses with Fairy-types, Flying-types and Psychic-types, in addition to Ground-types and Water-types." Max replied, with the brunette perking up at the mention of Fairy-types.
"There are Fairy-type Pokémon?" May asked, imagining plenty of cute fairy-like Pokémon.
"Yeah. They're a new type that was recently discovered off in the Kalos Region, with there being plenty of Pokémon that have had their typing changed to Fairy-type as a result. Fairy-type Pokémon are effective against Dark-types, Fighting-types and Dragon-types, the latter they're also immune to, while being weak to Poison-types and Steel-types." Said Max, making May nod while hoping she'll get the chance to catch a cute Fairy-type Pokémon.
"Now back to the Ghost-types, there are actually ways they can be damaged by Normal-type and Fighting-type moves. If a Pokémon uses the move Foresight or Odor Sleuth, they'll bypass Ghost-types immunity, making it so they can be hit by Normal-type and Fighting-type attacks. Then there's the ability Scrappy, where the Pokémon that has the ability can attack Ghost-type Pokémon with Normal-type and Fighting-type attacks." Max explained, much to May's amazement that there were ways to bypass Ghost-types immunities.
"One other important thing you need to know about Pokémon types is STAB or Same-Type Attack Bonus." Max said, confusing May again.
"What's that?" Questioned May.
"It's where Pokémon of a certain type uses an attack of the same type, like Torchic using Ember or Slakoth using Scratch. Because they're the same type as the move it gives the attack a boost in damage, the same will happen when Torchic evolves and learns Fighting-type attacks because her evolutions are also Fighting-type, meaning she'll get a STAB for Fire-type and Fighting-type attacks." Said Max, amazing the brunette again while being pleased that Torchic will be able to make her attacks even stronger just from them being the same type.
"Now another important thing is items that you can give your Pokémon-" Max said, only to stop when they heard their mother giggling.
"I think that's enough lessons for today Max, since I still need to help your sister." Caroline said, smiling in amusement at her son and everything he was saying.
"Okay mom, we'll continue tomorrow since there's still a lot more you need to know." Said Max, closing the books he brought and left, while May looked at her mother wondering what she'll be teaching her.
Caroline motioned May to follow her, with the brunette getting up and following her mother outside and to the greenhouse where the Gym Pokémon stayed.
"I'm sure it goes without saying, May, but one of the most important things while traveling is knowing how to cook. Not only for yourself, but your Pokémon as well. You'll find that some Pokémon have different tastes than others, some prefer sweet tasting foods while others prefer spicy, some like something sour tasting and those that'd dry food. So it's important you know how to cook all kinds of different things for the different Pokémon you'll have with you. And something very important to know about are berries." Caroline said as she plucked a round, blue berry from a tree and handed it to May.
"This is an Oran Berry, a very common and incredibly useful berry that can help heal your Pokémon a little when you're running low on potions or there's no Pokémon Center nearby. There's also Sitrus Berries, which are like Oran Berry's in that they heal Pokémon, only they're much stronger. Along with berries that can help cure Pokémon of conditions they'd get in battles, Pecha Berry's can be used to help cure Pokémon of poison, Cheri Berry's can undo paralysis, Rawst Berry's are used to treat burns, Aspear Berry's help raise a Pokémon's body temperature to help if they're frozen by Ice-type attacks and Perism Berry's are used on Pokémon that have been confused. Berries also have different flavors that can make food taste sweet, sour, spicy, dry or bitter, making it also good to add them to your Pokémon's food to see what they like. So, it's good to always have some berries on hand as you never know when they'll come in handy." Caroline explained while pointing out each berry she listed, with May nodding in understanding while memorizing what the berries looked like and what they did.
"I'll make sure to always collect berries whenever I see them." Said May, making the woman smile in approval.
"Good. Now come on, we'll get started on some easy to-do recipes for different kinds of curry and sandwiches you can make, I heard they're really popular in some far off regions and Pokémon love them." Said Caroline as they went back inside.
*Later*
After learning how to make different types of curries and sandwiches, along with some other easy recipes from her mother, May had headed out for Route 102. Figuring she could take the chance to try and catch some Pokémon, despite still having some doubts. But knew that even if she failed, she wouldn't get any better if she didn't try.
'I just hope I don't end up running into any really strong Pokémon.' May thought, knowing how badly that would end.
Before the brunette stopped when she saw some bushes rustling, making her tense at what Pokémon might be coming out from them. Only for her eyes to widen when she saw the Pokémon that emerged from the bushes.
It is a humanoid Pokémon with a white body. It has thin arms and legs that widen toward the feet. There is a wispy extension trailing off the back of its feet, creating the overall impression of a nightgown or oversized dress. Most of its face is covered by green hair that resembles a bowl cut, but a pair of pinkish-red eyes were somewhat visible underneath. There are two flat, red horns on top of its head: a large one toward the front and a smaller one at the back.
'It's…so cute!' Thought May, smiling excitedly at seeing such an adorable Pokémon before pulling out her Pokédex and scanning it.
"Ralts, the Feeling Pokémon. It can use the horns on its head to read human emotions. Ralts rarely shows itself to humans, but may occasionally approach when it senses positive or happy feelings."
"And it's a Fairy-type too! That settles it, I'm going to catch a Ralts!" May said, her excitement growing at seeing Ralts isn't just a cute Pokémon but also just the kind of Fairy-type she was hoping to catch.
"Ralts?" Ralts stopped in its tracks at hearing May's voice and looked at the Trainer.
"Let's go, Torchic!" Said May, letting Torchic out.
"Chic!" Torchic emerged in front of May, making the Feeling Pokémon tense at seeing the Trainer was going to battle it.
"Okay Torchic, use Peck!" May said, with Torchic rushing towards Ralts.
"Tor-chic!" Torchic lunged at Ralts with her beak to begin pecking at it, only for Ralts to jump out of the way.
"Ralts!" Ralts then let out a cry along with a beam of purple hearts towards Torchic.
"Dodge it quickly, Torchic!" Said May, making the Fire-type jump out of the way of the hearts.
Only for the brunette to be surprised when the hearts still chased after Torchic and crashed into her, sending Torchic crashing into a tree.
'What?! But Torchic dodged it, how did that attack still… Wait, Max did say something about certain attacks that could still hit a target even if they're dodged. That attack must be one of them!' May thought, cursing that she couldn't have Torchic just dodge and would need to think of another way to keep her from getting hit.
"Ralts!" Ralts let out another loud, piercing cry, causing Torchic to flinch from the volume and pulling May from her thoughts.
"I think that was Growl. Torchic, you use Growl too!" May said, knowing if they can't dodge Ralts' attack, they could at least weaken it.
"Torchic!" Torchic released her own piercing cry at Ralts, making the Psychic/Fairy-type flinch as well.
"R-Ralts!" Ralts released another beam of hearts at Torchic.
"Torchic, try using Ember on those hearts!" Said May, hoping that they could try cancelling the attack with one of their own.
"Chic! Tor-chic-chic-chic-chic-Torchic!" Torchic began shooting fireballs at the hearts with both attacks colliding and triggering an explosion, making the brunette grin that it worked.
"Alright, it worked! Now use Growl again Torchic, then use Peck!" May said, making Torchic let out another loud, piercing cry, with Ralts flinching as it was weakened further.
"Tor!" Torchic then lunged at Ralts and began rapidly pecking the Feeling Pokémon while it was disoriented from the Growl.
"Ralts!" Ralts released a cry as it was repeatedly pecked by Torchic.
"Okay Torchic, now use a condensed Ember!" Said May, with Torchic jumping back from Ralts and held her head back.
"Tor-chic!" Torchic then threw her head forward and unleashed a fireball straight at Ralts.
"Ra-Ralts!" Ralts managed to regain its focus long enough to release another wave of hearts at the fireball.
With both attacks colliding and triggering another explosion, unfortunately for Ralts, it had been too close and was thrown back by the force the explosion.
"Now's my chance! Go Pokéball!" May said, pulling out a Pokéball and throwing it at Ralts while hoping she'll succeed in catching the Pokémon this time.
Watching as the Pokéball bounced off of Ralts before opening up and sucking it inside, the brunette didn't celebrate as she watched the ball begin shaking a few times.
'Come on, please work.' Thought May, hoping it'll work, while Torchic was prepared in case the battle would continue.
After shaking a few more times, the Pokéball went still and let out a ping, making May smile brightly and pick it up.
"Woohoo! We got a Ralts! You were amazing Torchic!" May cheered before picking up her Starter and hugging her tightly.
"Torchic! Tor!" Torchic cheered along with her Trainer at winning the battle and catching a new teammate.
"Now let's meet the new addition, come out Ralts!" Said May, throwing the Pokéball, wanting to officially meet her first captured Pokémon.
Ralts emerged from the Pokéball before looking at its new Trainer and Torchic, with May kneeling down and smiling at Ralts.
"Hi Ralts, it's nice to meet you and I'm really happy to have you joining us. And here, this should help you feel better from the battle." May said, pulling out an Oran Berry, having taken a few with her before going out to try and catch some Pokémon, just in case.
"Ralts." Ralts was surprised at the offer, before taking the Oran Berry and began eating it.
"And one for you too, Torchic." Said May, taking out another berry and giving it to her Starter, with Torchic eagerly eating the berry.
As they ate the berries, May took out her Pokédex and scanned Ralts again, this time to see what moves it had.
Ralts:
Gender: Female
Ability: Synchronize
Moves: Growl, Disarming Voice
Egg Moves: Mystical Fire, Confuse Ray
'So that attack was Disarming Voice and it can't be dodged, that's good to know.' May thought, feeling pleased at what Ralts could do, even if she only knew two attacks.
"I'm sure you'll be an amazing part of the team Ralts, and having such a cute new addition is even better. I promise to take good care of you." Said May, picking Ralts up and hugging her, making Ralts smile at how warm her new Trainers emotions were.
"Ralts." Ralts happily leaned into the embrace.
"Torchic." Torchic rubbed against May's side, making the brunette pat her on the head.
"Don't worry Torchic, I don't intend to forget you either." May said, smiling at her Starter Pokémon, before she stood up.
"But we're not done yet, let's see if we can't get another new teammate to join us." Said May, feeling more confident and eager to find other Pokémon to catch after succeeding in capturing Ralts.
Before May returned Ralts and Torchic to their Pokéballs and continued exploring Route 102 to see what other Pokémon she'll come across.
*Later*
'So far I haven't found any other Pokémon.' Thought May, sighing as she walked through the forest as she hasn't managed to come across any other Pokémon since Ralts.
While she has seen several Pokémon, they were either too far away that by the time she reached them they were gone or they ran the moment they heard her approaching. Leaving her unable to get the chance to battle them.
'Maybe I should just head back. I did manage to catch Ralts, which seemed to be pretty rare as I haven't even seen a glimpse of another one. While I'd like to try at least catch another, having two seems like a-' May thought, contemplating heading home soon if she didn't find another Pokémon.
Only to stop when she heard the sound of footsteps on the ground, making the brunette freeze before quickly ducking behind a tree, grabbing Torchic's Pokéball as she did so. Wanting to be prepared to battle whatever Pokémon was nearby, before it had the chance to run.
'Okay, I just need to take it nice and slow. Wait until the Pokémon comes to me and when I see my chance, let Torchic out to battle then see if I can-huh?' Thought May, coming up with a plan of what she'll do, only to stop and look down when she felt something brush against her leg, only to be surprised at seeing a Pokémon.
It is a light brown, canine Pokémon. It has oval, brown eyes, a red nose, and its face covered by an abundance of cream fur. It has large, pointed ears with a tuft of fur near the base of each. Its fur puffs out above its paws, and its back has a spiky dark blue blaze. Each paw has three toes, and a blue paw pad. It also has a short, tufty tail.
"Awwww! You're another little cutie, aren't you!" May said, unable to help herself at seeing the adorable puppy-looking Pokémon.
Before tensing when the Pokémon looked up at her, hoping it doesn't run away, only to relax when it began yipping at her and sniffing around her feet.
"Oh! You must've smelled these." Said May, taking out one of the Oran Berries, causing the Pokémon to yip excitedly and wag its tail, making the brunette smile as she knelt down in front of it.
"Alright, here you go." May said, taking out a few more berries and putting them on the ground with the Pokémon immediately digging into them, with May taking out her Pokédex and scanning it.
"Lillipup, the Puppy Pokémon. The long hair covering Lillipup's face is an excellent radar, which senses conditions in the surrounding area."
'Lillipup huh. Could this be one of those Pokémon that's from another region?' May thought while looking at Lillipup, not recognizing it as one she's ever heard about being in Hoenn before.
Knowing this may be her chance to catch another Pokémon, but not wanting to just try attacking or catching Lillipup when it came up to her. May smiled at the Puppy Pokémon and patted it on the head, making Lillipup look up at her after it finished the berries.
"Hey Lillipup, what would you say about joining my team?" May asked, with Lillipup tilting its head the question and the brunette was asking if it wanted to be caught.
With May feeling some disappointment when Lillipup suddenly turned and ran from her, only to be surprised when Lillipup stopped across from her and turned back. Now having a rather serious look on its face, which only made May smile at how cute it looked, along with realizing what it wanted.
"You want to battle first, right." Stated May, Lillipup barked in response, wanting to battle her to see how strong the human was first.
"Well, you're a brave one aren't you. Alright, if you want to battle then let's battle! Go Torchic!" May said, letting Torchic out.
"Torchic!" Torchic appeared in front of May, narrowing her eyes at seeing Lillipup, knowing that they were battling and potentially catching another Pokémon.
Before May could have Torchic attack, Lillipup let out a loud yip as its body was surrounded by a red aura, with it then charging at Torchic.
"Dodge it Torchic then use Growl!" May said, with Torchic quickly jumping out of the way.
Though May was surprised when Lillipup kept charging forward and crashed into a tree, actually cracking it on impact.
'Woah! Lillipup is a lot stronger than I thought, unless…whatever that red aura was must've been a move that made it stronger.' Thought May, wondering what kind of move that was.
"Tor!" Torchic then let out a loud, piercing cry, making Lillipup flinch as its attack went down.
"Good job Torchic! Now use Scratch!" Said May, seeing Lillipup was open to be attack.
"Chic!" Torchic rushed towards the Puppy Pokémon, jumping up to scratch at it with her talons.
Only to suddenly freeze when Lillipup glared at her with its eyes glowing red, making Torchic shiver at the sight. With this giving Lillipup the chance to lunge forward and bite down at Torchic, making the Chick Pokémon cry out.
"Torchic! Quick try and shake Lillipup off with Peck!" May said in worry seeing Lillipup biting her Starter.
"T-Tor-chic! Torchic!" Torchic began pecking out at Lillipup repeatedly to try and force it to let go, making the Normal-type grunt from the pecking.
Only to cry out again when Lillipup was surrounded by a red aura and bit down harder, much to the brunette's concern.
"Oh no! Torchic, try using Growl to loosen Lillipup!" Said May, seeing Lillipup was increasing its strength again.
"C-Ch-Chi-Chic! Tor-chic-Tor!" Torchic struggled to focus for a moment before letting out a loud, piercing cry, causing Lillipup to flinch at the volume and how close it was to the Fire-type.
"Now's your chance Torchic! Use Peck again!" May said, with Torchic immediately starting to peck Lillipup.
"Tor-chic-chic-chic-chic-chic-chic-Torchic!" Torchic continued pecking Lillipup before giving a final strike that knocked the Puppy Pokémon off of her, making Lillipup yelp as it was went skidding across the ground.
"Alright! Now use Ember Torchic!" May said, relieved they managed to get Lillipup off.
"Tor!" Torchic opened her beak to begin shooting fireballs, only to shiver again when Lillipup glared at her with glowing red eyes.
Lillipup when rushed at Torchic again with a red aura surrounding it, making May quickly think of something to do, before she got an idea.
"Torchic! Use Growl…now!" Said May, waiting until Lillipup was close enough.
"Chic!" Torchic instantly let out a loud, piercing cry straight in Lillipup's face, causing the Normal-type to flinch and come to a stop at the sound.
"Now use Scratch!" May said, seeing this was their chance.
"Torchic!" Torchic lunged forward and began scratched Lillipup repeatedly, delivering a final slash across it body and knocking the Puppy Pokémon back.
"Way to go! My turn now, go Pokéball!" Said May, throwing a Pokéball at Lillipup, watching as it was sucked inside.
May and Torchic looked at the Pokéball as it began shaking, until soon it gave off a ping much to their joy.
"Yes! We caught our second Pokémon, a Lillipup!" May said, picking up the Pokéball, ecstatic that she now has three Pokémon on her team.
"Torchic!" Torchic jumped alongside her Trainer, happy she was able to win two battles and help get two new teammates in a row.
"Come on out Lillipup!" Said May, letting the Puppy Pokémon out, with Lillipup yipping once it appeared.
"We're glad that you'll be coming with us Lillipup, I also caught a Ralts earlier and you'll meet her once we get back home. But first, here some more for you and Torchic." May said, patting Lillipup on the head, before taking out some more Oran Berries.
With Torchic and Lillipup eagerly starting to eat the berries to recover some of their strength, while May scanned Lillipup to check its stats.
Lillipup:
Gender: Male
Ability: Pickup
Moves: Tackle, Leer, Work Up, Bite
Egg Move: Howl
'Some pretty good moves. Now have an adorable Fairy Pokémon and a cute puppy one, too!' May thought, smiling that she was able to catch two new Pokémon.
"I think that's enough for today. We don't want to end up trying to catch too many Pokémon at once, and before we've even left home. So let's head back and get all of you healed up at the Pokémon Center." Said May, standing up while returning Torchic and Lillipup to their Pokéballs before making her way back to Petalburg.
*Later*
Once she arrived back in Petalburg City, May headed to the Pokémon Center to get her Pokémon healed up before then returning home.
"I'm back! And I've got some new additions to my team!" May said with a satisfied smile, getting her family's attention as they smiled at her.
"Really?! Congratulations then, May! What new Pokémon did you catch?" Caroline asked, happy her daughter was able to catch some Pokémon.
"See for yourself, come out Ralts and Lillipup!" Said May, letting out her new Pokémon, as Ralts and Lillipup appeared in front of her.
"Wha?! You managed to catch a Ralts?! Oh man!" Max said, annoyed that his sister was able to catch such a rare Pokémon and, from the looks of Lillipup, a Pokémon from another region as well.
"A Ralts and Lillipup, that's impressive May. I'm sure they'll be valuable allies to have on your Journey." Norman said, smiling proudly at May, knowing Ralts and Lillipup will evolve into powerful Pokémon.
"Thanks, I'm really happy I was able to catch them." May replied, returning them to their Pokéballs.
"So did anything happen while I was away?" Questioned May wondering if anything happened while she was out.
"A challenger did come by to battle your father, though he didn't have three Pokémon so he couldn't officially challenge him." Caroline replied, with Norman nodding in agreement.
"That's right. His name was Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region and he only had a Pikachu and Poochyena with him. But I was willing to give him an unofficial match with how eager he was." Said Norman, with May not being that surprised, remembering Ash said he planned to challenge her father today.
"Yeah, but dad was able to beat him with just Vigoroth. But get this May, he was actually one of the Top Eight Trainers in the Johto League." Max revealed, shocking May at hearing this.
"Really?! He was able to get that far in the Johto League?! And he didn't have enough Pokémon to officially challenge dad?!" May asked, knowing that Ash was an experienced Trainer, going by their conversation and battle yesterday, but she didn't know he was that strong.
But it also confused her, since if he's already challenged a Pokémon League, potentially two if he entered the Kanto League as well. Then how did he not have at least three Pokémon to challenge her father.
"If I had to guess, he must've left all his Pokémon with his sponsor while only bringing his Starter with him to Hoenn, giving him a fresh start with new Pokémon." Norman said with a slight frown, making May and Max look at him.
"Is that a bad thing, dad?" Max asked, only for the Gym Leader to shake his head.
"It's not bad per say, since leaving behind their Pokémon like that does help Trainers focus on the new ones they'll catch in different regions. However, it's not something that should be done frequently as by focusing on just their new Pokémon, they start neglecting their old ones, making the older Pokémon grow stagnant by not training or battling anymore. Not to mention, that it can cost Trainers battles they'd normally be able to win, had they used older and more experienced Pokémon rather than ones they only recently caught." Norman explained.
"So Trainers should bring their older Pokémon with them, then?" Questioned May, thinking of how it'll work for her when she gets more than six Pokémon.
"They should, but they should still use their new Pokémon. I believe the best thing done is Trainers should rotate their teams with old and new Pokémon, this way it gives them time to train and bond with the new Pokémon they catch while still giving them access to their older and experienced Pokémon, which also lets them build on the training and past Journeys they've been on." Replied Norman before looking at his children.
"Remember that you two, when you start catching more Pokémon May, and when you can start your own Journey Max." Norman said, with May and Max nodding in response at the advice.
"Alright, now let's get back to training, May. And we'll also work on training for Ralts and Lillipup as well. While for Lillipup, now that you have a Normal-type, I can help more with that." Norman said, motioning May to follow him to the Gym to resume her training.
"What did you have in mind for Lillipup?" May asked, knowing her father is one of the best Normal-type Trainers in the world.
"First, what have you learned about Normal-type Pokémon, so far?" Questioned Norman, wanting to see what she knew first.
"I know that Normal-types aren't super effective against any other Pokémon types, they're weak to Fighting-types, and they're immune to Ghost-types. But Ghost-types are also immune to Normal-types. Though that can be bypassed with move like Odor Sleuth and Foresight, or if the Pokémon has the ability Scrappy." May replied, remembering everything Max told her, with Norman nodding in approval.
"That's good. But some other things to know are that, on average, Normal-types have some of the lowest defense of all Pokémon and aren't the best special attackers, being much better at using physical attacks. Only a few Normal-types are really strong enough, with most Trainers usually preferring Pokémon of other types. However, one thing where Normal-types shine is their versatility in the moves they can learn via training or Technical Machines, or TMs for short." Said Norman, making May look at him in confusion.
"Technical Machines?" Questioned May, wondering what those were.
"They're discs that are used to instantly teach Pokémon a new move, if they're capable of learning it. You'll be able to get one whenever you beat a Gym Leader along with a Badge. They can also be purchased at stores and won at Game Corners, along with occasionally being prizes at tournaments." Norman explained, with the brunette nodding in understanding.
"Anyway, what make Normal-types versatile is they're capable of learning all different kinds of moves of any type. Making it so while Normal-types themselves aren't super effective against any others, you can give them a wide variety of attacks to where they'll be super effective against every type. For instance, Lillipup could learn the moves Ice Fang, Thunder Fang, Fire Fang and Psychic Fangs, giving him four powerful attacks that would be useful against plenty of different Pokémon." Said Norman, much to May's amazement.
"Wow, I didn't think Normal-types could be that strong." May stated, now seeing why her father specialized in Normal-types.
"Not many Trainers do. It's why I specialize in them, they're a jack-of-all-trades kind of Pokémon, making it so you never really know the kind of attacks they'll have. You'll see as we continue your training." Norman said, with May nodding as they entered the Gym before she sent out her Pokémon to begin.
*Timeskip-Two Weeks*
Two weeks have passed since May began her training and learning how to be a Trainer from her family, along with her managing to catch Ralts and Lillipup. With the brunette and her Pokémon having grown a lot since they started. With May feeling much more confident in herself as a Trainer with everything she's learned and all the training she's done, while having also grown closer to her Pokémon as well.
The three Pokémon had also gotten stronger and even learned some new moves, with Torchic learning Quick Attack and Flame Charge, Ralts learning Double Team and Confusion, and Lillipup learning Baby-Doll Eyes and Façade.
They also had more practice battles against her father, being able to finally beat his Zigzagoon, only to be defeated by his Slakoth who proved to be much stronger than Zigzagoon. But rather than be discouraged at losing, May wanted to keep trying and training to get stronger.
Now though, after two weeks, May was ready to really head out and start her Journey again.
"Thank you for all your help and training, I'll be sure to do my best out there." May said smiling at her family, which they returned.
"We were happy to help you sweetheart, and we know you will. And here, I'm sure this come in handy on your Journey." Caroline said, handing May a PokéNav, much to her amazement and gratefulness.
"Wow, thank you! This'll definitely come in handy." Said May, glad that now she won't have to worry about getting lost.
"I'm sure it will. But you also can't forget this either." Said Norman, handing May a Badge case, which the brunette took.
"Thanks dad, I'll make sure to fill it up." May said pocketing the case.
"Just try not to end losing against the first Gym Leader you face. It'd be embarrassing if I worked so hard to teach you everything only to have you lose before you get a single Badge." Said Max while pushing his glasses up, making May roll her eyes.
"Thanks Max, I'll keep that in mind." Said May before she hugged her parents and her brother goodbye.
"See you! I'll make sure to call whenever I can!" May said while waving at them, which they returned, as she made her way down Route 104, feeling that now her Journey as really begun.
So, what did you think, good. Yep we see May's training begin with working on having Torchic master the moves she already has, while also working on improving her physical abilities, given how fast and strong Combusken and Blaziken can be. With May also training, since there'll be times she'll be glad to be physically fit on her Journey, as well as to help bond with her Pokémon by training alongside them.
Then we see the schedule being made for May's training, as well as her going out to try and catch some Pokémon to get some experience and a bigger team. Along with also getting some fanservice of May in the shower and her underwear, while also letting Torchic out to sleep beside her.
Before we go to the next day with May learning the basics of Pokémon from Max and the essentials of traveling from Caroline. With it then going to May on Route 102 to try and catch some Pokémon, where she manages to find and catch a Ralts and Lillipup, much to her excitement at catching two new Pokémon before returning home. Where she learns Ash stopped by to challenge Norman, only to have an unofficial match due to not having enough Pokémon, with Norman winning with Vigoroth and gives some advice to May and Max on how to raise and train more than six Pokémon, along with advice on Normal-types for Lillipup.
Finally we see a timeskip of two weeks, learning how far May's come in her training and the new moves her Pokémon have learned. Before she really starts her Journey, getting a PokéNav and a Badge case from her parents as she heads down Route 104. So, for those that like the story, thanks for your support. For those that don't or at least don't like the direction taken, you're more than welcomed to drop the story. But thanks for giving the story a chance anyway.
