AN: Last chapter. I didn't make it long. Originally, I was gonna go for that whole cliche "I forgive you thing" but in the end I felt that didn't fit and to simplify it. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: I do not own Helluva boss

Even though Thaniel had not been an Exterminator for many years, he kept up his training to remain fit. Not just because it was good exercise but because it also helped with discipline and focus. It was hard to get rid of a routine you had for so many years, even if you were no longer using it for a purpose. So when Nathanial and Octavia's twelve-year-old son Horus and his best friend and cousin Fenris wanted to learn how to fight so they could both join Heaven's Army together, both their parents turned to Thaniel to train them.

It was odd seeing two nephalem wanting to join God's Army in Heaven, which was not forbidden for either of them, thanks to the new laws placed in the past few years. The cooperation between Heaven and Hell had improved by margins now that Queen Charlie had complete control over her realm not long after her father finally abdicated after a long talk with his family. From what he heard, things were slowly improving between the ex-ruler and the current queen, but they still had a long way to go if the rumors were true.

"Keep your paws up," Thaniel commanded as he watched the two young boys train in his own training room. "Notice each other's eye movements. That will tell you where the enemy will swing."

To the left of Thaniel was his son's godchild, a half-human and half-owl creature named after one of the ancient Egyptian gods despite not being a falcon. He had the head of an owl, sharing similar traits to his demon mother; only his eyes were shining blue to reflect his half-angel nature, and he had long hair with white feathers at the end that were apparently from his grandmother's side. He had no halo on his head, but he had black angel wings tucked to ensure he could keep himself in balance. Outside of the head, everything else about him was that of his father, from the skin to the tone of his body shape. He was focusing his hardest on trying to get a better vantage point against his fellow nephalem and best friend.

Despite being a year older, Fenris was still shorter than Horus by an inch or two. A side effect of having a Cherub father. The wolf-sheep hybrid took after his mother primarily by having a mostly Hellhound body save for his fluffy tail like a sheep and the white angel wings behind his back. He even had Collin's freckles on the side of his face. Fenris had no halo but red demonic eyes with purple pupils and a fuzzy white mane on his head. Out of all the six siblings of his pack, Fenris was the most devoted to his angelic heritage, much like Horus. A part of Thaniel wondered if it was because of how close they had been since infancy.

After checking the time, Thaniel clapped his hands, and his two sweaty students put their practice swords down and began to gasp for breath. "Alright, you two, you did a good job, but Fenris's mother will be here soon to pick you both up. Go quickly wash up and get dressed."

"Yes, Mr. Helostus," the boys said with a bow before going to the nearby washroom, happily chatting about what they had learned today.

Thaniel chuckled and shook his head. Two nephalem chatting as if they were brothers and planning to be soldiers in God's army. To rise through the ranks and show that their demon heritage is a strength, not a weakness. Hard to believe that such things have happened in the last twenty or so years.

A doorbell rang, and Thaniel realized that Loona was here early. Seeing as he was all alone due to Hilda visiting her friends for some shopping and Mannus doing work on Earth, he flew as fast as he could to the front door and opened it. With a smile, he bid his hellos to the smirking Hellhound. "Hello, Loona."

"Hey, Thaniel," Loona greeted as she walked into the house wearing a simple black t-shirt and jeans. A black and red cross medallion carved with gold was around her neck that was a symbol to all angels to let them know she had permission to be in Heaven. "The boys finishing up?"

"They're taking a quick wash and getting dressed," Thaniel nodded. "Drink?"

"Nah, I'm taking the boys to get pizza after I pick up Remus from choir practice and Spirit and Dante from I.M.P."

"I'm still surprised Collin allowed your son and daughter to get trained to be assassins so early at their age," Thaniel pointed out with a shake of his head.

"Dad was teaching them behind our backs anyway, so I figured it would be less damaging if Moxxie and Milie at least were there. No need for my pups to learn how to use a rocket launcher that soon," Loona chuckled before folding her arms and smiling. "Thanks again for taking Fenris in with Horus to train them. He really likes you."

"Hmm, I suppose that's kind of him to say," Thaniel replied with a heavy sigh. "He's a good boy. And he comes from a good mother."

"Thanks," Loona replied with a smile at the angel.

"...When will you tell him?" Thaniel asks, knowing he doesn't need to beat around the bush.

When Loona finally told everyone what Thaniel had said to her three months after the wedding, it took her about twenty-five minutes to stop Blitzo from attacking Thaniel. It led to more talks, but everyone eventually decided to let the past stay the past. Thaniel didn't get involved with the lives of the others for some time. Not until Horus was born, as his son was named one of his "Godfathers," and he insisted on his parents getting to know him.

That led to him talking more and more to Loona and her family, especially when Horus and Fenris became the best of friends. But nobody could still forget that Thaniel was the one who accidentally killed Loona's family. It was something that rarely was brought up but didn't hold the same weight of a burden for either of them.

"Never," Loona answered with a shrug, much to his surprise. "There isn't a reason he needs to know. Besides, it was in the past. I'd like to think we've moved on from it...I've moved on from it."

"I guess I've mostly done so," Thaniel admitted. However, he still lit a candle and said prayers on the anniversary of the former Extermination Days.

"Well, you should..." Loona said before taking a deep breath and smiling at him. "Because I forgave you a long time ago."

"I know," Thaniel said with a bright smile. It had been after the first session of training the boys. Loona had told him she finally forgave him for her parent's death, leading to a small hugging and crying session that the two held in private.

It was funny how the two of them, who only met that one time so long ago, would have this interesting bond between them. It was neither family nor friendship. It was not love or hate. It was...something. A word that neither could really give for this strange connection. For a moment where their fates changed and affected them their entire lives.

A single tragedy that sent events forward that made them into the angel and demon they respectively were now.

"Hey, Mom!" Fenris said as he rushed forward with Horus by his side. The two happily shook with anticipation as their wings flapped. "Are we going for pizza now?!"

"First, we have to get your siblings, and then we'll get a few slices," Loona said as the two cheered with a howl and a chirp. "Now get in the teleportation glyph I got outside. That doesn't last long."

The two boys nodded and hurried outside. Thaniel was about to say farewell until Loona said, "You want to join us?"

"I don't want to intrude," Thaniel said, waving his hands.

"Relax, it's fine. Think of it as thanks for looking after the boys for me, Octavia, and our husbands," Loona said with a grin. "Besides, you've never had pizza until you've had Pride Ring pizza."

I haven't been back to Hell since the day I orphaned her, and now I'm being offered to go back. Not to slay demons by the hundreds, but to have pizza, Thaniel thought as he couldn't help but find the situation hilarious. Strange how life always turns out years later.

He accepted the invitation and walked outside with the girl he once orphaned and now was looking at him as if they were long-time friends.

Yes, fate really was a strange thing.
