January 10
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are preparing to initiate our descent to Miami-Dade International Airport," Bosco heard a cheerful voice say over the cabin intercom as he opened his eyes and sighed heavily.
The rest of the announcement went unheard as Bosco looked at Danielle and smiled at his wife's sleeping form before looking across the aisle at John, David, and Ellie. Ellie was sitting next to the window silently coloring in a book while John and David were quietly reading a book together.
Knowing full well that if he interrupted the kids, they would start asking about their grandfather who was sitting a few aisles back, Bosco turned his attention to Danielle, "Hey, Danielle, how are you feeling?" he asked softly, gently touching her hand. "I guess we're gonna land pretty soon."
"Oh, I'm all right," Danielle replied softly as she opened her eyes. "What do we do after landing?"
Bosco smiled, "We'll be met at the gate, I think," he replied calmly. "I'm hoping we can go to Bobby's house and relax a bit before John has to go to the police department to share what he can remember."
"Lieutenant Caine wouldn't be so heartless as to make him come to the precinct right away," Danielle replied in a concerned voice, her gaze travelling to John, David, and Ellie as she spoke. "Would he?"
Bosco shrugged, "I doubt it," he replied in an uneasy voice. "I hope this trip is short and sweet."
"As do I," Danielle replied softly, her voice full of sadness. "Our family doesn't need more grief."
Fatigue and worry filled Tim's eyes as he spotted a poster bearing a picture of his brother on a telephone pole that was between his apartment and the MDPD. He didn't normally take the time to notice such things, as he usually drove to work, but he was off until later and taking a walk to clear the mind that had been filled with troubles since he had been told about his mentally ill brother's crime.
With his father running the restaurant, his mother looking after James and Julliet so Emily could work and make money to see to the needs of her children, Tim felt the need to be alone with the news that only he and his parents knew. Soon enough, however, all of Miami would know.
Swallowing hard, Tim gently removed the poster from the pole, studied it, and was about to throw it away when he suddenly heard a rustling in the bushes. Tim quickly drew his recently cleaned gun and stepped into the bushes, shocked speechless when he saw a battered, drunk Edward Addison covered in mud, ripped clothes, and blood trying and failing to get to his feet. Edward froze at the sight of Tim.
Slurred expletives filled the air as Tim swiftly tackled Edward and pulled out his cell-phone as he made sure the drunken man couldn't get up, "How do you know I won't take your gun and shoot you?" Edward slurred as Tim talked with the 9-1-1 dispatcher on his phone. "You're so skinny and stupid…"
"I'm gonna kill that worthless son of mine," Edward hissed as sirens filled the air. "Wait and see."
Tim scoffed, but didn't move for fear that something bad would happen if he did something foolish.
"Dad, there's your partner," David commented softly, seeing Bobby lingering at the gate.
Bosco sighed, smiling as they approached Bobby, who was dressed in a suit and holding Adam's hand, "Detective Caine, I guess, right?" he asked kindly, smiling at Bobby. "You're looking a lot better."
"I'm glad you guys got here safely, Bosco," Bobby replied kindly. "Sully, how are you doing?"
Sully smiled, "Good," he replied kindly as David tugged at his sleeve. "David, what is it?"
"That was a really long plane ride and I'm hungry," David replied softly. "Can we eat?"
Danielle smiled and gently patted David's shoulder, "Detective Salas and Adam came with me today, so I'm sure we can stop somewhere on the way to my house if it's okay with your parents," Bobby replied in a kind voice, amused when Sully blushed at the mention of Detective Salas. "Let's go get your bags."
As the group walked through the airport, they spotted Yelina and an excited looking Adam waiting in the baggage area, "Detective Salas, hi," Sully commented shyly, smiling at Yelina. "Hi there, Adam."
"Mister Sully, are you gonna go on a date with Auntie Yelina?" Adam asked in a curious voice.
Bosco, Danielle, Bobby, and Sully all chuckled before Sully sighed and looked expectantly at Yelina, "How about we go downtown for a coffee later?" Sully asked kindly, smiling at Yelina. "It'll be on me."
"Perhaps I can bring Ray Junior over for supper and he can stay while we go have coffee," Yelina replied in an intrigued voice, giving Sully a mysterious smile. "All right, we should find your family's bags."
John hung back with David and Ellie while Danielle, Bosco, and Bobby looked for the bags and Sully and Yelina watched both groups with both interest and caution, as one never knew what could happen.
Ryan sighed, inhaling the morning air as he reached into the Speedle's mailbox and carefully collected all the mail to give to Mrs. Speedle before James and Julliet woke. As he shut the mailbox, however, a moving vehicle stopped in front of the mailbox, blocking Ryan from view and the door opened.
A figure lunged from the backseat and Ryan yelled loudly enough to cause Mrs. Speedle to look through the window and she reacted by hurrying to the phone to call the police while Ryan struggled to throw his masked assailant off of him. Unfortunately for Ryan, his assailant was stronger and managed to inject a syringe of an unknown substance into his neck. Within seconds, Ryan passed out cold on the grass.
"Clavo, put him in the back and let's GO!" an anxious voice shouted. "Before we're caught."
Clavo growled as he scooped Ryan's limp body up and forced him into the back of the SUV that he had convinced Jason Wolfe to help with this errand with the promise of a good amount of money and a chance to deal with someone that Stetler was close to. He quickly blindfolded Ryan and put a piece of duct tape over his mouth before climbing in and slamming the door shut in an anxious fury.
"What are we gonna do with him?!" Jason yelled anxiously, noticing that it was his Uncle Ryan in the rear view mirror and feeling sick that he needed pocket money so badly to stoop to such a level.
Clavo sighed heavily, "Just go where I told you to!" he shouted anxiously. "Before anyone sees us!"
Shaking anxiously, Jason switched the SUV into gear and tore off down the street, unaware that Mrs. Speedle had recorded the license plate and was now contacting the police about the fact that Ryan had been abducted without provocation or cause. She was also relieved that James and Julliet were safe.
"Hello, Miami-Dade Police Department?" Rosa said in an anxious voice. "There's been a kidnapping…"
Miami-Dade Police Department
Sighing heavily, Emily leaned back in her plush office chair and took a swig from the bottle of green tea that Rosa had made for her before she went to work at the MDPD as the new police psychologist while she worked on finishing her degree in Criminalistics. Even with a chemo session the day before, Emily felt well enough to work and with Rosa and Ryan's reassurance, she had taken the bus to the MDPD.
Since she had just started working for the MDPD, Emily's personal items consisted of a laptop, her degree, photos, and a blanket and pillow that she could use to rest on the couch if she needed to. The office also held a file cabinet, a desk, a chair, and a shelf that Emily intended to fill with books.
A sudden knock at the door caused Emily to stop reflecting, "Come in," she replied professionally.
The door opened and Rick entered the office looking very nervous and slightly dishevelled, as if he had been having serious personal issues, "Miss Wolfe, I was wondering if you had a moment?" he asked in a tired voice, quickly pulling the door closed behind him. "As Victims Assistance knows, I have kids…"
"Yes," Emily replied, having been briefed through private communications with Natalia and Horatio.
Rick sighed and made himself comfortable on the couch, "With the time I spend communicating with Catherine in New York, searching for Lindsay and Lenny, and doing my job here, I am finding myself very overwhelmed," he explained in a cautious voice. "I've also been thinking of selling my house and finding something in a much more secure neighborhood because ever since I was shot in my own home…"
Shuddering, Rick exhaled sharply, "I also wish to seek forgiveness for the way I acted when Bernard, Clavo, and Ramon had a hold on me and I ended up going to prison for it," he confessed shakily.
"I have already forgiven that because I know what it's like to be under the influence of another's bad behavior," Emily replied softly. "Now, in regards to your house, a house is where someone should feel safe and secure from the influences and dangers of the world. You don't sound safe and secure."
Before Rick could reply, there was a knock at the door and Rick cringed inwardly, hiding his face as the door opened and Eric poked his head in, "Emily, H said that Speed called in that he somehow came across Edward Addison and arrested him," Eric said in an anxious voice. "I guess I should have…"
"Officer Delko, it's all right," Emily replied calmly. "The Sullivan-Boscorelli family should be getting into Miami this morning, so why don't you call wherever they are staying and let them all know?"
Eric nodded and quickly disappeared from the room, closing the door behind him just as Rick's phone vibrated, "Sorry," Rick apologized as he pulled it out and held it to his ear. "Sergeant Stetler here."
Rick frowned as the caller identified herself as Rosa Speedle and said that Ryan had been getting the mail that morning when an SUV had suddenly shown up and a man had gotten out, injected Ryan with a needle, and had forced him into the backseat before escaping, "…And the MDPD hasn't sent someone over there yet?" he asked in an angry voice. "Mrs. Speedle, I will personally head the investigation."
After hearing thank you's from Mrs. Speedle, Rick hung up and sighed as he stood up, "I'm sorry, but can we talk more another time?" he asked softly. "I was considering asking for a prescription of something to help with the insomnia, but I had better get the CSI's looking for Ryan. Do you want to help?"
"Conflict of interest, Sergeant," Emily replied softly. "Please keep me in the loop about Ryan, though."
Rick nodded, a hand on the doorknob, "If you don't have any clients today, take it easy," he spoke softly.
"I'll try," Emily replied anxiously, very worried about what had happened to Ryan. "Find my brother."
Coconut Grove – Miami, Florida
Bosco's eyes widened as he led Danielle, John, David, Ellie, and Sully into the foyer of Bobby's house and quickly realized that Bobby was very well off, "I set aside rooms for all of you upstairs," Bobby explained as he came into the house with Adam. "Bosco and Danielle, you two can have a room to yourselves, Ellie can have a room, John and David can have a room, and Sully, you can have a room to yourself."
"I hope we're not putting you or your boys out," Danielle replied, truly awed by the size of the house.
Bobby shook his head, "I have my room and BJ and Adam share," he replied in a reassuring voice.
"Do you have a pool?" David asked in a curious voice. "We don't do a lot of swimming in New York."
Bobby shook his head, "I don't have a pool, but I can probably find one if you really want to go swimming," he replied calmly. "If y'all want to settle in, I can give you a tour of the house."
Before Bosco or Danielle could speak, the kitchen phone rang and Bobby quickly hurried into the kitchen to answer the phone, "Uncle Bosco, wanna come upstairs?" Adam asked softly. "The rooms are big."
"John, David, Ellie, why don't you go upstairs with Adam to see if you can find your rooms?" Danielle spoke up in a gentle voice, suddenly feeling tired. "I think I'm going to sit on the couch for a bit."
As Danielle sat down on the couch, Bobby came back into the living room holding the cordless phone in his hand looking rather somber, "Uh, that was the Miami-Dade Police Department," he said softly. "I was just told that Officer Speedle from CSI apprehended Edward Addison earlier this morning."
"What?" Danielle breathed in a shocked voice, her eyes wide as she struggled to process the news.
Bobby nodded, "Unfortunately, another CSI has also been reported as abducted, so I need to go into work and help Detective Tripp since the CSI's are apparently busy with Edward Addison," he replied in an apologetic voice. "Would you mind keeping an eye on Adam until I can get back home?"
"Does John need to go in today?" Bosco asked in a concerned voice. "Because of Edward?"
Bobby shook his head, "Not til tomorrow," he replied calmly. "Consider this your home for now."
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and Bobby quickly answered it, revealing an annoyed looking Frank, "Delko's running late," Frank grumbled, his eyes widening at Sully. "Well, Officer Sullivan…"
"Retired now, actually," Sully replied calmly, quickly recognizing Tripp. "How are you, Tripp?"
Frank was quiet for a moment, "I heard you joined VA," he spoke in a more serious voice. "If you did, it would really help us a lot if you'd come along and help us find CSI Wolfe, who was kidnapped earlier."
"Ryan Wolfe?" Sully replied, a frown on his face as memories from the past suddenly came to mind.
Frank nodded and Sully nodded, anxious to see that Ryan was well, "I'll help," Sully said anxiously.
Bosco frowned as Sully left with Frank and Bobby, "Sully's retired," Bosco commented in a confused voice as he walked over to the couch and sat down next to Danielle. "How come he gets to go?"
"I should probably explain how Victims Assistance works," Danielle replied softly as she snuggled close to her husband and gazed up at him. "The kids are all busy, so we have some time to talk right now."
Miami-Dade Police Department
The sight of a very battered Edward Addison sitting in a holding cell disgusted Horatio, but he silently watched as several officers processed the hardened man, "Horatio, a word?" he suddenly heard.
Frowning, Horatio turned and saw an angry looking Rick striding towards him, "Horatio, why are you not putting every man you have on finding Ryan?" Rick asked sharply. "He is one of your CSI's, you know."
"I wasn't expecting Speed to catch Edward Addison," Horatio replied nervously. "I sent Speed upstairs."
Rick scoffed, "Edward Addison can wait another day since he's obviously got to sober up first before he can be of any use to anyone," he hissed. "I'm personally heading up the investigation on Ryan's abduction and I've already assigned Detective Tripp and Detective Caine to investigate the scene, but they called me while I was coming to look for you and said Delko decided to take a personal morning."
"I'm sure it was for Marisol," Horatio replied smoothly. "You are aware of his sister, I trust?"
"Delko's taken too many personal days, Horatio," Rick snapped. "Duquesne and Boa Vista can't keep picking up his slack and it's very difficult for Ryan to do so when nobody bothers to include him."
Horatio paused, "I ordered Eric to investigate the scene," he replied in a disappointed voice. "If it will calm you down, I will personally go over to the Speedles home and investigate the scene myself."
"Don't bother," Rick replied in a serious voice. "I already have suspects, but I have no proof."
Horatio frowned, "Suspects?" he asked in a confused voice as Rick turned and walked off. "I'm coming!"
Across the city, in a mansion that was constantly kept neat and clean, Tommy Wolfe silently eased into his easy chair and opened a copy of the paper that had been on his step at dawn. He was tired and since his wife and daughter were off shopping with his youngest son, Emilio Ryan, and Jason was off with friends enjoying his day off from school, he figured now was a good time to relax and have a rest.
The front door opened and Tommy paid no mind to it, instead choosing to remain in the den with his paper, "Dad?" Jason's voice called out. "Dad, are you home? I really, really need to talk to you."
Sighing, Tommy set his paper aside, climbed out of his chair, and strolled into the front room where Jason was shaking as he struggled to remove his filthy sneakers, "What is it?" Tommy asked gently.
"Um, Dad, I think I did something really bad," Jason replied nervously. "I hung out with Clavo Cruz."
Tommy raised an eyebrow, "I told you not to hang out with him and I told Jenny not to talk to him except for work," he replied coldly, frowning as Jason stayed silent. "There's more, isn't there?"
"Yeah," Jason replied anxiously. "Clavo made me be his driver today and he kidnapped Uncle Ryan."
Tommy's eyes widened and he suddenly looked extremely angry, "Jason Tommy Wolfe, you did what?!" he said in a rising voice. "You're 17 years old and you participated in a kidnapping with Clavo Cruz?!"
Jason's eyes widened in fear as Tommy marched over to the rack where the keys were all kept and grabbed the keys to his truck, "We are going down to the Miami-Dade Police Department right now and you are going to tell them what you know," Tommy snapped in an aggravated voice. "You better pray that your Uncle Ryan doesn't end up in serious trouble because you decided to do something stupid."
"Grandma doesn't like when you talk about Uncle Ryan," Jason replied anxiously. "She'll…"
A sick feeling washed over Tommy and he couldn't help but wonder if his very emotionally damaged mother was somehow involved in Ryan's abduction, as she did come to Clavo's club and had probably talked with the man, "I don't care," he replied in a grave voice. "We are going to the truck right now."
"You want to marry Horatio?" Emily asked in a surprised voice as she sat across from Marisol and an overly concerned Eric in the safety of the MDPD Psychiatrist's office. "When did you decide this?"
Ignoring the incredulous look Eric was giving her, Marisol sighed, "We went for a walk last night and I told Horatio that there was so much I wanted," she replied softly. "He said…he would help me with it."
"You haven't known Horatio for that long," Eric replied in a concerned voice. "He's older than you."
Emily sighed and Marisol gave her a pleading look, "I don't have any advice for you," Emily replied softly.
Eric frowned, "You're a counselor, right?" he asked gruffly. "Your job is to give people advice, isn't it?"
"Officer Delko, my job is to listen and help people with their problems," Emily replied calmly. "Marisol is an adult and I can listen to her and what she wants, but I cannot go around telling people what to do."
Marisol sighed just as Emily's cell-phone rang and giving Eric and Marisol an apologetic look, she quickly answered it, "Emily Wolfe," she said in a soft voice, frowning when the caller identified himself. "Tom?"
For a moment, Emily was silent and then sighed, "I can't get involved in that, Tom, but I know an officer who could come and help," she replied softly. "His name is Officer Delko and he's a Crime Scene…"
There was a click and Emily sighed, "Eric, would you please go to the interview rooms?" she asked softly.
Even though Eric wanted to know why, he merely nodded, stood up, and left the counseling office.
"I didn't know you and Ryan have an older brother?" Marisol asked softly. "You never said anything."
"It's very complicated," Emily replied softly. "Now, Marisol, let's talk about you and Horatio."
The sight of an angry looking Rick lingering outside one of the interview rooms with a concerned Horatio surprised Eric as he approached, "Delko, go away," Rick snapped. "Get over to the crime scene."
"Emily said her brother called about something," Eric explained in a concerned voice, frowning at the sight of an irritated looking man and a sullen looking teenager sitting in the interview room together.
Horatio frowned, "I refuse to talk to Tommy Wolfe or any of his spoiled brat offspring, but he told me that he brought his brat in because of what happened to Ryan," Rick snapped, a scowl on his face.
"Eric, I already sent Tripp and Detective Caine to the crime scene and they have some assistance from the Victims Assistance Network," Horatio stated calmly, wondering how Rick knew the Wolfes so well.
Eric nodded, but said nothing, "Horatio, if you don't need Delko, I need him to follow up on a lead I got on my cell-phone last night," Rick spoke up sharply, quickly pulling his phone out of his pocket. "It's about that little secret I let you in on a while back and I hope you won't mind lending me a CSI."
Horatio frowned and Rick sighed as he held out the phone message for Horatio to see, "I will not risk trouble by involving uniformed cops," Rick hissed. "Do you understand not to tell anyone?"
"I understand," Horatio replied in a concerned voice. "I will do my best to handle this situation."
Without waiting for Rick and Eric to leave, Horatio entered the interview room and sat down across from Tommy and Jason Wolfe, "My name is Lieutenant Caine and I understand that you have some information about Ryan Wolfe's abduction?" Horatio asked in a stern voice, gazing at Jason intently.
"My son thought it would be nice to earn a few bucks by hanging out with Clavo Cruz even though I've forbidden him from doing so," Tommy spoke, seeing that Jason had no intention of speaking at all.
Horatio nodded and eyed Jason, "How exactly do you know Mister Wolfe?" he asked softly.
"I am Ryan and Emily's older brother, but we haven't spoken in years," Tommy replied in an uncomfortable voice. "I will not go into details with you about why not, as it is a highly personal situation, but I will not stand by and allow my son to go to jail for something Clavo Cruz did."
Horatio sighed, "Do you have any idea where Mister Wolfe might have been taken?" he asked grimly.
Coral Gables
"No, I don't have any idea where Ryan Wolfe is, detectives," Bernard replied in a cool, but tired voice as he sat down in an easy chair across from the couch where Frank and Bobby sat, deeply irritated that two cops had shown up at his private residence assuming that he had arranged for Ryan to be kidnapped.
Frank and Bobby exchanged a look and Bernard smirked, "Even if I wanted to bother with Ryan, I have no energy to arrange a kidnapping and I barely have enough energy to get around every day," he explained in a cool voice. "I'm surprised you haven't asked my ex-wife, Emily, what I've been up to."
"Emily?" Frank asked in a confused voice, frowning at Bernard. "Why would we ask her about you?"
Bernard chuckled, "I have a heart condition and I take medication for it, but she and some dark haired officer are the only ones who know about it since she was too much of a coward to come alone," he replied in a cold voice. "I believe the dark haired man's name was Officer Speedle if I recall correctly."
"Do you have any idea who might have taken Ryan, then?" Bobby asked in a concerned voice.
Bernard shrugged and his eyes narrowed at Bobby, "You're Dimitri LaRusso's boy, aren't you?" he asked in a tired voice, studying Bobby's face carefully. "Your father married Adria Caine, didn't he?"
"How do you know that?" Bobby asked in an unusually sharp voice. "That is my personal life."
Bernard smirked, "I have friends and you look so much like your saintly father that it's not even amusing to talk about right now," he replied weakly, sighing heavily. "What else can I do for you?"
"Nothing," Frank replied gruffly as he stood up. "Let's get going elsewhere, Detective."
Deeply rattled, Bobby nodded and stood up, "We'll see ourselves out," he said in a gruff voice.
As Frank and Bobby left the condo, Frank watched as Bobby unlocked the car and then stared up at the sky instead of getting in, "If my father's alive, it's news to me," Bobby commented softly, switching his gaze to Frank, who looked concerned. "I almost died when an armed gunman shot my mother and I in our apartment, but I didn't and my Uncle Horatio came to New York while I was still in the hospital…"
Suddenly, Bobby's phone vibrated and he quickly pulled it out of his pocket, frowning as he saw a text from his uncle along with an address that Rick and Eric had gone to after receiving a lead about a missing child with his uncle expressing concerns about Rick and Eric's safety, "Frank, do you think we could follow up on this message my uncle just sent me?" Bobby asked in a concerned voice.
"Sure," Frank replied, knowing Bobby wouldn't ask for such a favor if it wasn't very important.
Coconut Grove
"Are you sure you don't mind walking with us, Dad?" David asked softly as he walked alongside Bosco and John down the street towards the park that Adam said was in the area. "You could stay with Mom."
Bosco sighed, "Your mother's spending time with Ellie," he replied in a soft voice. "And Adam."
"Ellie was crying," John spoke softly, a somber look on his face. "I should have come for her faster…"
Bosco sighed, "John, we're not going down that road right now," he replied, not wanting to tell John that Danielle had been the one having a cry over the fact that Edward was now in the custody of the Miami police and she found herself having flashbacks to the point where she felt better about staying at Bobby's house with Ellie and Adam than walking around Miami. "Anyway, where is this park at?"
A loud gunshot suddenly rang out from a nearby house and the front window shattered almost immediately afterwards, "Stay back," Bosco said in an anxious voice, his police instincts kicking in.
Unaware that John and David were at his heels, Bosco crept towards the damaged house and through the window, he could see a battered and gagged man tied to a chair and being attacked by a man welding a baseball bat and while a well-dressed woman slashed him with a knife, "Hey, that's Officer Wolfe," John said in an anxious, hushed voice, quickly recognizing Ryan. "What's going on?"
Before Bosco could reply, the man spotted them out of the corner of his eye and turned his gun towards them, "It's Clavo Cruz!" John shouted, grabbing David by his collar as Clavo prepared to shoot.
Not wanting John or David to get hurt, Bosco mentally recorded the address, grabbed both boys, and bolted off back the way they came before Clavo could shoot, "Let's get back," he said breathlessly.
As Bosco hurried John and David to safety, Sarah Wolfe slapped Ryan hard across the face and glared at Clavo, "Now the police will come," she sniffed angrily, grabbing a fistful of Ryan's hair and pulling it.
"By the time they get here, we'll be gone," Clavo hissed, ignoring Ryan's muffled sobs. "Blindfold."
Sarah's eyes narrowed as she watched tears of frustration and pain stream down Ryan's face, "You worthless weakling," she hissed as she grabbed the bat and swiftly broke the chair, sending Ryan to the floor in a heap of rope and broken chair before she struck him several more times, breaking the bat.
Clavo's eyes widened as Ryan wavered between consciousness and unconsciousness, "Get rid of him," Sarah scoffed, glaring daggers at Ryan briefly before she silently left the house through the back door.
Abandoned Shack
"This is the worst neighborhood I've ever been in," Eric commented, grimacing at the dilapidated shacks separated only by remnants of fences. "Are you sure that we're in the right place?"
Rick, however, said nothing as they approached the door and he knocked, "Who is it?!" a voice snapped.
"Rick Stetler," Rick called out anxiously, wondering if coming to this deplorable place had been a bad.
The door swung open, revealing a thin man in holey jeans and a ragged t-shirt that looked like Speed except for some facial hair that was slightly grey, "Who's the Spanish dude?" Tony grunted drunkenly.
"Eric Delko," Rick snapped in a testy voice, appalled at Tony's appearance. "Where's Lenny at?"
Tony grunted and stepped aside, revealing a young boy laying on the floor next to a patched couch with his eyes closed and hidden by his pale face with his clothes hanging loosely on him and his dark hair a mess, "Delko's a cop!" Tony suddenly shouted, spotting the badge on Eric's pocket. "I said no cops!"
Swallowing hard, Rick quickly pulled out his gun and was knocked over by Tony, whose temper was quickly rising, "I told you no cops, Stetler!" Tony shouted, grabbing the gun off of the dirty floor.
Eric lunged at Tony, sending both of them to the floor as Rick quickly checked to see if Lenny, who looked seriously ill, was still alive, "Delko, that's Officer Speedle's brother," Rick snapped, deeply relieved that Lenny was still breathing. "Just make sure he can't go anywhere. Don't hurt…"
Suddenly, Tony fired the gun he was holding and hit Rick in the chest, causing him to collapse next to Lenny with a hand on his chest. Eric roared and shoved Tony against the wall, causing him to drop the gun and howl angrily. Before Tony could react, the door burst open and Tripp, Sully, and Bobby charged in. Sully instinctively blocked the door in case Tony tried to escape in his over-inebriated state.
Profanities filled the house as Tripp quickly helped Eric subdue Tony and slap him in a pair of handcuffs while Bobby hurried over to Rick and Lenny, "Bobby, I found my son," Rick spoke in a pained voice.
"Let me call for an ambulance," Bobby said in an anxious voice as he got his radio off of his belt.
Groaning, Rick pulled himself into a sitting position, "It hit the vest," he spoke softly, caressing his chest.
Bobby nodded, quickly radioed in for medics to come to the address, and looked at Lenny questioningly before looking at Rick, who was gently caressing Lenny's hair, "Don't take Tony Speedle to jail," Rick said in a short voice without looking up. "Get a psych hold on him and contact Speedle at the lab right away."
"Tony Speedle?" Tripp asked in a confused voice, his eyes wide. "As in a relation to Tim Speedle?"
Suddenly, Tony broke free of Tripp and Eric and lunged for the gun with his cuffed hands, successfully managing to grab it and point it at Bobby, Rick, and Lenny. Bobby quickly unholstered his gun, but before he could fire, Tony fired three times, hitting Bobby in the shoulder and in the ribs with two bullet while the other bullet missed completely and went into the wall. Sully swore and rushed forward to help Tripp keep Tony under control, shocked at the situation that was unfolding before his very eyes.
Gasping, Bobby struggled to keep himself calm as he looked at Rick and Rick immediately released Lenny, ripped off his jacket, and pressed it against Bobby's shoulder wound, "THAT'S ENOUGH!" Tripp roared as he tackled Tony while Sully disarmed him. "Delko, get some gloves on and get the bullets!"
The sound of sirens filled the air as Eric whipped on a pair of gloves and went looking for evidence.
"Okay, John so you, David, and your stepfather were going for a walk to a park and you saw Clavo Cruz and some woman holding Mister Wolfe hostage in a house?" Horatio asked in a concerned voice, having come to Bobby's house when he had gotten a call from Bosco about the incident. "We checked…"
David glared at Horatio, "My brother wouldn't lie!" he snapped anxiously. "He really wouldn't lie!"
"David, stop," John, who was sitting across the kitchen table from Horatio, said softly. "It's okay."
Horatio sighed, watching as Bosco bent down and whispered in David's ear, "What I was going to say is that I sent police over to the house and although there was evidence indicating that people had been there recently, there was no sign of Mister Wolfe or his kidnappers," Horatio stated in a concerned voice, worried about David's temper. "CSI Duquesne is currently processing the evidence at the lab."
"Um, Lieutenant Caine, I heard my mom and stepdad talking earlier and they said Edward had been arrested?" John asked in a shaky voice, not noticing Bosco flinch. "Do…do I need to come and talk…"
Horatio shook his head, "Edward is not in any shape to talk to anyone right now, but I will let your parents know when you need to come into the PD," he replied calmly, sighing as a tired looking Danielle came into the kitchen with Ellie and Adam at her heels. "Ah, Mrs. Boscorelli, how are you doing?"
"Lieutenant Caine, what a surprise," Danielle spoke softly. "Is everything all right down here?"
Bosco looked at John, "John, could you get started on some lunch for David, Ellie, and Adam please while I talk to your mother in the living room?" he asked in a concerned voice. "See you, Lieutenant."
As Bosco and Danielle went into the living room to talk, Horatio's cell phone went off and he quickly checked it, shocked when he found a text from Eric stating that Bobby had been injured in the line of duty while investigating a scene with Tripp and was currently being transported to the hospital.
Shock filled Horatio and he silently speedwalked out of Bobby's mansion without a word to anyone, as he needed to know how serious Bobby's injuries were before he talked to anyone else about them.
Miami-Dade Police Department
Emily sighed tiredly as she sipped a strawberry and banana smoothie that Tim had went and bought for her from a nearby food place during his morning break, "This is wonderful, Tim," she spoke softly, smiling at him as he sat on the couch beside her as she lay there with her feet on his lap. "Thank you."
"I know you're not able to eat the day after you have chemo," Tim replied softly, gently slipping her shoes off and carefully massaging her sock-clad feet. "I figured a smoothie is better than nothing."
Emily nodded and slowly sipped a little more before setting it on the coffee table, "I've missed you, Tim," she spoke softly. "We haven't really done much by ourselves since that double date. I mean, I like it when you come to dinner at your parents' house, but I also want to spend some time alone with you."
"I know," Tim replied, smiling at her. "We could go for a walk along the beach one evening…"
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and Emily quickly sat up, "Come in," she said calmly.
The door opened and Calleigh poked her head in, "Tim, Horatio's on the phone," she said anxiously. "He said that some guy named Tony Speedle is being brought to hospital by the police after a shooting…"
"Tony?" Tim asked in a shocked voice as he stood up. "Did Horatio say if Tony was injured at all?"
A sudden wave of nausea hit Emily and she immediately closed her eyes to block it out, "Tim, you'd better go see your brother," she spoke softly, wanting to be left alone to get sick without an audience.
Frowning, Tim sat back down and gently took hold of Emily, "Calleigh, would you mind driving Emily back to my apartment?" he asked softly. "And could you stay with her until I can get there?"
"I can't," Callieigh replied apologetically. "Detective Caine was shot by Tony Speedle and I'm waiting for Eric to come back here with the evidence. I really wish I could help, but I have to be at the lab."
Tim frowned and gently looked at Emily, who was slowly straightening up, "I'm all right," she whispered, gazing at Tim. "You need to go tell your parents about your brother and then go be with him."
"How are you getting home?" Tim asked softly, frowning as Emily got up and moved over to her desk.
Emily sighed, "I've got a little work to do first," she replied softly. "And then I'll call a cab to come."
Tim reluctantly nodded and stood up, gently stroking Emily's hand before he left the office, "Are you sure you're gonna be okay?" Calleigh asked in a concerned voice. "I could always take a few minutes…"
"I've got to get the paperwork in so I can get some lab hours in to fulfill my practicum requirement for my Criminalistics degree," Emily replied softly. "I've got a dual degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology, but having a qualification for the lab is also nice to have just in case I ever need to have another job…"
Callieigh frowned as Emily turned her laptop on, "I'm not trying to take a job from anyone," Emily said in a wary voice. "I only need enough hours to be certified and then I can work just about anywhere."
"I'm not worried about that," Callieigh replied calmly, feeling that Emily felt insecure about herself and seemed very nervous about being near most the CSI's because of all that had happened to her.
Emily nodded and turned her attention to her work while Callieigh left the office, trying to figure out a way to become friends with Emily because it looked to her as if Emily would be grateful if she had one.
Miami-Dade University Hospital
After what seemed like an eternity, Horatio arrived at the hospital and quickly found the exam room that Sully was guarding and where Bobby was sitting on a gurney, silently staring at the floor while Dr. Loman and several nurses took care of the bruise on his rib area and the wound in his shoulder.
"What happened?" Horatio asked softly, recognizing John's grandfather. "John Sullivan Senior, right?"
Sully nodded, "Detective Tripp's upstairs questioning Sergeant Stetler right now because Sergeant Stetler is keeping watch on his son," he explained cautiously. "Tony Speedle was holding him hostage."
Horatio's eyes widened, but he nodded calmly, "Tony Speedle is being held in the psychiatric ward," Sully continued in an anxious voice. "Bobby took a bullet to the ribs and a bullet to the shoulder, but both of them went straight through. I think your CSI Delko took the evidence to your Crime Lab."
"You're with Victims Assistance, aren't you?" Horatio asked softly. "It's why they brought you…"
Sully nodded, "I'm involved to guard John, but I'm glad that I was there today," he replied firmly.
"I'm glad you were too," Horatio replied calmly, sighing as Yelina came over to them from the desk.
Yelina looked concerned as she saw that Sully was there, "Were you involved, John?" she asked softly.
"Yes," Sully replied softly, unwilling to reveal that he knew Ryan as a child and used to supervise Rick and that's why Frank, who knew Sully's past with them, had insisted he come along to look for Ryan.
Yelina nodded and then turned her gaze to Bobby, "I called BJ's school and asked them to keep BJ there until someone from the house could pick him up and I also called the house and let Officer Boscorelli know what has happened today," she said in a concerned voice. "Bobby got off very lucky today."
Horatio nodded and silently entered the exam room, "Bobby," he said in a concerned voice. "You okay?"
"I'm very sore," Bobby replied softly, wincing as he grabbed the bed. "Can you please help me, Uncle?"
Horatio waited until the shoulder wound was bandaged before he helped Bobby stand, "Here's a clean shirt for you, Detective," Dr. Loman said in a calm voice as he handed Bobby a clean button-up shirt that he had gotten a nurse to grab from the clothes room. "Try and take it easy for a few days, all right?"
"I'm glad it wasn't worse," Bobby replied as Horatio helped him dress. "Should I use the arm at all?"
Dr. Loman replied by tossing a shoulder sling on the gurney, "I'm also prescribing antibiotics to prevent infection," he replied calmly. "Give the shoulder a rest for a couple of days and take it easy."
"Maybe I can ask Danielle and Bosco to help keep BJ and Adam busy so I can rest this shoulder," Bobby spoke softly. "All I want to do now is go home and rest in bed, but I have to get the boys supper first."
Horatio frowned as Bobby suddenly gripped the bedrail and lowered his head, "Shock's just setting in, I think," Dr. Loman said in a concerned voice. "Detective Caine, perhaps you'd better lie down for a bit."
The nurses in the room quickly set up the bed in a semi-upright position with a pillow and Horatio helped Bobby to lie down before he collapsed, "I don't know what came over me," Bobby spoke softly.
"Don't worry about it," Horatio replied reassuringly. "If you need to, you can always stay here tonight."
Bobby sighed and shook his head, cringing as he slowly sat up, "I'll get more sleep at home," he replied in a tired voice. "If you could help me put on the sling, I think I'll make it out of here and back home."
Horatio nodded and moved back so that Dr. Loman could help Bobby put the shoulder sling on properly and he noticed that Sully and Yelina had silently left, seeing that Bobby was now in caring hands.
Downtown Miami
Evening quickly came after Sully and Yelina had briefly checked on Rick, who had refused to talk to anyone until his son came out of surgery, before leaving the hospital, getting Ray Jr. from school, and going back to Bobby's to make sure that someone had gotten BJ from school. To Yelina's relief, Bosco had gone to the school and had picked up Adam with permission from Horatio to vouch for him and Sully and Yelina had found John, David, Ellie, BJ, and Adam all watching a movie while Bosco and Danielle made dinner in the kitchen.
BJ and Adam had quickly asked about their father and Sully had calmly explained that he had been hurt helping someone else, but he was all right and would be home later. That explanation had calmed them for the moment and to ease the worry, Sully and Yelina had stayed at the house for supper with them and Ray Jr. had spent a bit of time with the other kids before saying he wanted to go visit his grandma and Yelina had obliged.
Now, while Bosco and Danielle got David, Ellie, Adam, and BJ ready for bed with John's help, Sully and Yelina took Yelina's car downtown and parked it so they could walk along the beach to a café that Yelina had said served decent coffee. As they walked along the beach, Sully silently held out his hand to Yelina.
"How have you been doing?" Sully asked shyly, grinning at Yelina. "I've been writing as much as I can."
Yelina nodded, "I've enjoyed reading your letters and Ray Junior wants to know more about you," she replied in an amused voice, returning the smile as she took Sully's hand. "How are you keeping busy?"
Before Sully could reply, a car came careening down the street, stopped and dumped someone on the road that was tied up, blindfolded, and gagged before speeding off. Alarmed, Sully quickly darted across the sand and forcefully pulled the incapacitated man off the road before more cars started coming.
"I'm calling for police and an ambulance," Yelina said anxiously as she pulled out her cell-phone.
Nodding, Sully knelt down next to the figure and quickly removed the blindfold and bloodstained gag, revealing a badly battered and unconscious Ryan, who had blood all over his forehead, face, and clothes.
"He's not breathing," Sully said in an anxious voice as a wide-eyed Yelina started yelling into the phone.
Sully quickly initiated CPR and let out a sigh of relief when Ryan coughed and gasped for air just as the sound of sirens filled the quiet evening air, "Just hold on, Ryan," Sully said anxiously. "Help is coming."
Coconut Grove
The sound of a car caused Natalia to look up from the flowers she was tending in the front yard and as she stood, the car parked and Horatio got out before helping Bobby out of the passenger seat. Deeply concerned as to why Bobby's shoulder was in a sling, Natalia silently walked over to his front yard.
"Natalia, hello," Horatio spoke politely to Natalia, realizing that she lived next door to his nephew.
Natalia frowned at Bobby's arm, "Detective Caine, are you all right?" she asked in a concerned voice.
"I was shot in the line of duty this afternoon," Bobby replied softly. "Fortunately, it's nothing major."
Natalia nodded, "Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked in a concerned voice. "Anything at all?"
"You're welcome to come in for a moment if you want and maybe have some juice?" Bobby suggested in a tired voice, not wanting to admit that he was too tired for company. "I think the boys are in bed."
Swallowing hard, Natalia nodded and followed Horatio and Bobby into the house to find that Bosco was sitting on the couch with a newspaper, "What happened to you?" Bosco asked softly, seeing the sling.
"Shot in the line of duty," Bobby replied in a tired voice. "Thanks for looking after my boys for me."
Bosco nodded just as Horatio's phone went off and he stepped outside to answer it, "It helped that Sully and Detective Salas stayed for supper before they went out," he replied calmly. "Danielle put Ellie and Adam to bed and I think she's playing a board game with John, David, and BJ until they get tired."
"Would you like me to get some juice for you, Detective?" Natalia spoke up nervously, eager to help.
Bobby nodded as he walked over to the nearest chair and sat down, "Thank you," he replied softly.
Suddenly, Horatio came back inside, "That was Yelina," he spoke in a grave voice. "Mister Wolfe was found downtown in very serious condition by her and John Sullivan Senior while they were socializing."
"How is he?" Bosco asked in a concerned voice, wondering if John seeing the kidnappers helped at all.
Horatio sighed, "Mister Wolfe is being transported to the hospital and either Yelina or John Sullivan Senior will call when they are aware of his condition," he replied calmly. "There is evidence from the scene that needs to be picked up from the hospital and processed at the lab in a timely manner."
"I'll go by the hospital and get the evidence," Natalia offered. "I can take it to the lab tonight."
Horatio nodded and looked at Bobby, "I'll go by the hospital," he said calmly. "Go get some rest."
Bosco quickly got to his feet and helped Bobby upstairs while Horatio and Natalia left the mansion.
