Two Days Later
Miami-Dade University Hospital
Emily sighed as she turned away from the window and saw that Ryan had drifted back into the deep sleep that he had been in for the last two days after briefly regaining consciousness for paramedics in downtown Miami. Besides a lacerated forehead, Ryan had suffered broken ribs, bruised lungs, a broken hand, facial damage, and internal bruising as a result of being kidnapped and held prisoner.
Since Ryan had been found, Emily had wisely limited his visitors because she knew that too many people at once would frighten Ryan. Thankfully, only Tim and his parents had come by to see Ryan and the CSI's had promised to come only when the evidence was processed and they knew who to charge.
Swallowing hard, Emily was about to take a walk when there was a knock at the door, "Miss Wolfe, do you have a moment?" Dr. Loman asked softly, poking his head into the room. "I heard you were here?"
"Do you want to talk about Ryan, Doctor Loman?" Emily asked in a concerned voice. "He's asleep."
Dr. Loman shook his head and held up a chart, "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about your latest test results," he said in a concerned voice. "Chemo has helped a bit, but you'll need surgery very soon."
"What kind?" Emily asked softly, walking over to the bed. "I've got so much on my plate right now."
Dr. Loman sighed, "A double mastectomy," he replied softly. "To keep the cancer from spreading."
"I see," Emily replied softly, holding a hand to her heart. "How quickly does it need to be done?"
Dr. Loman thought for a moment, "Next month at the very latest," he replied softly. "Any questions?"
"Not at this time," Emily replied softly, sighing as Dr. Loman nodded. "I'll let you know when I do."
Dr. Loman nodded, "Has anyone been in to check your brother yet?" he asked in a concerned voice.
"Not yet," Emily replied in a concerned voice. "If you had time, could you please do it?"
Again, Dr. Loman nodded, "Of course," he replied in a reassuring voice. "Could you wake him for me?"
Miami-Dade Police Department
Tommy Wolfe sighed tiredly as he sat next to Jason, who was wearing an orange jumpsuit and looking rather subdued after spending two days in a MDPD cell. Across from them, Horatio and Frank sat looking rather solemn and serious, as the evidence determined that Jason had merely been an accomplice to the kidnapping and that Clavo Cruz had been one of Ryan's attackers, but the other one was in hiding.
"If you tell us who helped Clavo Cruz hurt CSI Wolfe, Jason, I can perhaps keep you from going to prison," Horatio stated in a dark voice. "You helped Clavo kidnap Ryan, but what did you do after?"
Tommy scowled, "Wait until our family lawyer gets here, Caine," he sniffed, wondering where his mother had disappeared to and how much she had been involved in Ryan's abduction. "He won't…"
"I went home," Jason spoke in a timid voice. "I've been in a cell that's next to a drunk tank for two days and whoever's in there was so scary that I barely got any sleep. He was cussing about some kid."
Horatio raised an eyebrow and Tommy's scowl deepened, "After Uncle Ryan was unconscious, Clavo dumped me off at the library and I don't know where he went," Jason replied anxiously. "Honest."
"Well, it will be up to Mister Wolfe whether or not you spend more time in jail," Horatio replied coldly.
Jason's eyes widened in horror and he burst into tears, causing Tommy to curse, "My grandmother's crazy!" Jason howled hysterically, slapping the table. "She's hated my Uncle Ryan forever!"
Tommy paled while Horatio and Frank exchanged a look, wondering what Jason would tell them.
Downtown Miami
"Mom, John's zoned out again," David said as he tugged on Danielle's sleeve as she examined a rack of baby clothes as part of their day of shopping. "I tried to talk to him and he didn't say anything."
Danielle turned away from the clothes rack and saw that John was standing at the front window with his arms crossed, "John, are you all right?" she asked as she walked over to her eldest and touched his arm.
"I'm fine," John replied softly without turning around. "I was just staring at the beach and thinking."
Danielle nodded and John sighed, "Grandpa and Detective Salas went to a kids store with Adam and Ellie," he explained softly, his voice quivering. "Between what David and I saw and Doc's death..."
There was a heavy silence as Danielle put an arm around John, "I think I'm having a panic attack or something," he said in a nervous voice. "I just want to go outside and sit down somewhere."
"David, we're going," Danielle said in a concerned voice, prompting David to rush right over to her.
Danielle put her other arm around David and the three of them walked outside, "I think my mind's exhausted," John spoke softly as he sank down in a chair just outside the store. "I'm so sorry."
"I know this whole thing has been difficult," Danielle said softly, watching as John took a deep breath.
David frowned at John's pallor, "Should I go get Grandpa and everybody?" he asked in a worried voice.
"No, just give me a minute," John replied quietly, frowning as he suddenly noticed Ray, who was crossing the street towards them looking somewhat anxious. "Mom, some guy is coming towards..."
Danielle looked up just in time to see Ray approach them, "John Sullivan?" Ray asked aggressively, the whiff of liquor coming off his breath. "I'm Raymond Caine and I need to talk to you right away."
"Where's your badge?" Danielle asked in a sharp voice. "If you have no badge, you need to leave."
Ray's eyes widened in shock, "THEY TOOK MY BADGE FROM ME!" he howled, grabbing John roughly.
David swore loudly and barrelled into Ray, prompting him to release John and all three males fell to the sidewalk in a heap, "HELP!" Danielle screamed as Ray fought with John and David. "SOMEONE HELP!"
Without warning, a dark-skinned man came bolting out of a nearby store and forcefully yanked Ray away from John and David, "Warrick?" John asked in a faint voice as he struggled to get up.
"In the name of Victims' Assistance, Ray, you're under arrest," Warrick said anxiously, handcuffing Ray.
Noise broke out as Sully, Yelina, Ellie, and Adam came running towards them, having heard Danielle's yelling from the store they had been in, "Warrick from Vegas?" Danielle asked in a shocked voice.
"Grissom told me to serve as backup to Sully and Sully said you were all going downtown today," Warrick replied in an anxious voice as he held Ray tightly. "Ray's no longer with Victims' Assistance."
Danielle silently turned her attention to John and David, frowning as John shakily helped David up and realized that both of them had scrapes from the pavement, "Maurice is gonna be so mad cause I suck at fighting," John replied in a shaky voice as he ran over to a trashcan and promptly threw up in it.
David, however, promptly threw up near where he was standing, "So, you're one of the pretty little girls who they had for a while?" Ray asked, suddenly noticing Ellie. "Your brother was an almighty fool..."
Sully's eyes widened in anger, but before he could react, John roared and punched Ray in the face several times, kicking Ray in the chest hard as Sully grabbed John and David and pulled them away.
"I'll call the police," Yelina said in a concerned voice, pulling out her cell-phone as Ellie burst into tears.
John suddenly felt himself pulled back to the mansion where he could hear Ellie's cries as he lay strapped to a table in the cold basement, trying not to die as Edward and Clavo had their fun torturing him for no reason at all, "Mom, John's eyes are all funny," he vaguely heard David say worriedly.
"I-I'm all right," John replied in a shaky voice, quickly lowering his head because he felt nauseous.
As Danielle, who didn't buy that John was fine, approached from behind, John anxiously unbuttoned the top button of his shirt, "Detective Salas, phone for an ambulance too," he heard his mother command.
Coconut Grove
Sighing tiredly, Bobby opened his eyes and sighed heavily as he slowly sat up in bed, pleased that he had managed to make it through the night without problems. Bosco had kindly taken BJ to school and picked him up for the last two days while Danielle and Sully had entertained John, David, Ellie, and Adam so that Bobby was free to take it easy until his arm and his bruised ribs healed enough for him to do so.
Even though he had no desire to get up, Bobby also knew that he needed to keep track of things that were going on in his home because he had invited the Sullivan-Boscorelli family to stay with him.
It was an effort for Bobby to dress, but he managed it and silently went downstairs, surprised that the house seemed so quiet. He wandered into the kitchen and saw Bosco reading a paper at the table.
"Morning," Bosco said calmly, looking up at his partner. "Danielle took John, David, Ellie, and Adam out shopping and Sully's with them. I got BJ off to school this morning and have no plans for today."
Bobby nodded and silently went over to the fridge, "Oh, some guy from the department called and said you've been scheduled for some sort of post-incident counseling," Bosco said calmly. "That guy, Stetler, also called and said he's got his son in some sort of pediatric ward and will call you back later."
"Oh," Bobby replied in a tired voice. "I hope BJ and Adam understand why I slept in this morning."
Bosco nodded as Bobby got some milk from the fridge, "Oh, and Edward Addison's gonna be talked to today, so John will have to go talk to the CSI's tomorrow," he said calmly. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired and a bit sore, but I'm alright," Bobby replied, taking a swig of milk straight from the carton.
Bosco's eyes narrowed, "Have you been getting any therapy since you came to Miami?" he asked softly.
"I went to a support group for abused spouses once or twice, but I haven't had time since your family arrived because I need to look after y'all," Bobby admitted in a nervous voice. "Does it make sense?"
Bosco scoffed, "We'll be fine for one evening if you want to go to a meeting," he replied sincerely.
"Maybe," Bobby replied softly as he returned the milk to the fridge, closed the door, and wandered over to the counter where he sat down. "I was actually thinking of using my days off to buy a minivan."
Bosco raised an eyebrow and Bobby chuckled, "I know it sounds ridiculous when I never owned a car in New York, but I feel like I need a change," Bobby explained calmly. "A minivan would be better..."
Suddenly, the phone rang and Bobby quickly grabbed the cordless off the cradle on the table, "Hello, Robert Caine speaking," he said calmly, frowning as he heard a frantic voice. "What happened?"
Immediately thinking of his family, Bosco frowned and watched silently as Bobby nodded for several minutes, "...Okay, we'll get there as fast as we can," Bobby finally said in a concerned voice. "Bye."
"What happened?" Bosco asked in a concerned voice as Bobby slowly got to his feet and sighed.
Bobby frowned, "Aunt Yelina wouldn't give details," he replied calmly. "I need to go get dressed, though, and while I'm doing that, could you please call a cab? I have plenty of money to pay for the fare."
As Bobby left the kitchen, Bosco reached for the phone and silently looked around for a phone book.
Miami-Dade University Hospital
"Speedle, what are you doing here instead of at the lab?" Tim suddenly heard a brisk voice call out.
Frowning, Tim turned in the middle of the hallway and saw Rick sitting in a patient room beside a bed where a small boy lay asleep in a hospital gown and hooked to IV's and machines, "Stetler?" he asked in a surprised voice, poking his head into the room. "I'm wondering what you're doing here?"
"Speedle, don't be so dense," Rick replied sharply. "You remember Lenny, correct? He IS my son, you know, and I am doing what I haven't been able to do for a long time; sit at my son's bedside."
Tim nodded, "Anyway, what are you doing here?" Rick asked sharply. "You're on duty today."
"I traded with Delko," Tim replied calmly. "I'm going to visit the psych ward and then go visit Ryan."
Pursing his lips, Rick nodded, "I'm just glad Lenny will be all right," he said, not wanting to talk about Ryan's injuries or about Tony Speedle's mental health issues for fear of getting too worked up.
Tim sighed and silently moved down the hallway, keeping quiet as he took the elevator up to the psychiatric ward and registered as a visitor. The nurse on duty silently led him to a private room just down the hallway from a nearby common area and Tim was surprised to see his father already there.
"Dad, hi," Tim said in a concerned voice, noticing that Tony was asleep and their father silently sat beside the bed, silently anticipating when Tony, who was restrained to the bed and decorated with IV's and wires, would wake and wish to communicate. "I took the day off to come do some visiting."
Anthony nodded just as Tony opened his eyes and sighed tiredly, briefly gazing at Tim before returning to a deep slumber, "The hospital found Tony to have diabetes and a mental illness," Anthony explained, gently patting Tony's hand. "The low blood sugar brought on amnesia and triggered some paranoia."
Tim nodded and Anthony sighed, "Do I need to talk to Sergeant Stetler?" Tim asked worriedly. "I don't know if anyone told you, but the kid Tony kidnapped and held is Sergeant Stetler's son, Lenny."
A heavy sigh escaped Anthony's lips, "If you could keep your brother from jail, Timothy, it would be for the best and your mother and I would ensure he was given proper help," he replied somberly.
"I don't know if I can do that," Tim replied reluctantly. "Sergeant Stetler may press charges for..."
Tony suddenly woke in a massive coughing fit and Tim immediately buzzed for a nurse, sighing as one quickly came into the room, "I'll come visit later," Tim said softly, quietly moving out into the hallway.
Tim spent the elevator ride to the floor where Ryan was staying in total silence, but quickly hid behind his mask as he walked down the hallway towards Ryan's room. Because of the open door, Tim could see Dr. Loman examining Ryan while Emily lingered nearby looking unusually anxious and uncertain.
"Hey," Tim said calmly as he entered the hospital room. "How are you doing today, Ryan?"
Ryan sighed, "I can't remember much of what happened," he replied in a shaky voice. "I've tried."
"Now, don't borrow trouble," Dr. Loman said calmly. "Ryan, if you behave, I might release you to the care of the Speedles tomorrow or the next day if you manage to eat and use the bathroom today."
Ryan perked up at the mention of being released soon, "I have to get better so Emily can have her surgery," he said in a groggy voice, prompting Emily's eyes to widen. "I overheard you talking..."
Tim frowned at Emily, "I have to have a double mastectomy next month," Emily explained in a nervous voice, giving Tim a look of fear. "The chemo was enough to shrink the tumors, not destroy them."
Before Tim could reply, there was a knock at the door and Sully poked his head into the room, "Sully?" Emily asked in a concerned voice, frowning at the concerned expression on his face. "What's wrong?"
"Raymond Caine attacked John, David, and Ellie Boscorelli downtown while they were shopping with their mother," Sully explained in a concerned voice. "Ray's been arrested, but Danielle's arguing with Lieutenant Caine over the charges Danielle wants to press. Lieutenant Caine wants to release him."
Emily's eyes widened with shock and anger, "Take me to them," she ordered in a sharp voice. "Now."
"I'll stay with Ryan," Tim offered as Emily followed Sully from the room looking very angry.
"...I don't CARE if the man is your brother who has been presumed dead!" Danielle shouted at Horatio, grateful that Bosco was sitting in an exam room with John, who was being held for observation, while Yelina had taken David and Ellie to the cafeteria to calm them down. "That man hurt my children!"
Horatio sighed as he put his sunglasses on to block out the bright sun shining in from the windows, "Danielle, I understand that your family has been through some incredibly difficult times," he replied in a calm voice. "However, I think it best that you and your family focus on the situation your eldest son..."
"Don't you DARE try to manipulate me, Lieutenant Caine!" Danielle shouted as Sully and Emily came into view from down the hallway. "If you allow Ray Caine to be freed despite me wanting to press charges against him, I will take my family home to New York and we will have nothing further to do with you."
Horatio stared at Danielle speechlessly as Emily walked over to them, "What seems to be the problem?" Emily asked in a professional voice. "I was informed by Sully that there was some sort of issue."
"I don't wish to charge Raymond with anything because he was under the influence," Horatio explained in a cautious voice, knowing that Ray had been undercover. "Besides, he and Detective Salas are..."
There was a heavy silence as footsteps approached, "Ray and I are what, Horatio?" Yelina asked softly.
"You and Raymond are still married and since he's alive, you still are," Horatio finished, turning to her.
Yelina was quiet for a moment and she slowly shook her head, "I divorced Ray before he left to do the work that supposedly lead to his death because his behavior was very erratic and I was worried for the safety of my son," she replied softly. "It was a quiet divorce and I wanted it to remain that way."
"So, Detective Salas, you have no problem with Ray being charged with assault and public intoxication?" Danielle asked, determined to diffuse the situation. "I want to charge him with both of those."
Yelina silently shook her head as David glared at Horatio, "I take it that the MDPD didn't know about your divorce since you are still receiving Ray's benefits," Horatio stated coolly. "Why lie about it?"
"They did know," Yelina replied coldly as Bosco and John suddenly came out of a nearby exam room.
Danielle looked at Bosco and John questioningly, "What are you doing out of bed, John?" she asked.
"I'm not staying here," John replied anxiously. "Where's Detective Caine? I want to go back."
Horatio frowned, "Mister Sullivan, you need to give a statement about the attack, as do David and Ellie," he replied in a calm, but firm voice. "Officers from the MDPD will be arriving shortly to talk to you."
"My children will not be talking to anyone," Danielle replied firmly. "That is my final word, Lieutenant."
Sully looked shocked at Danielle's anger, but said nothing, "There's a car waiting for us outside," Bosco said gently, keeping his hands on John's shoulders. "David, Ellie, Honey, I think we're going to take off."
"I'll catch up a little later," Sully spoke up, anxious to talk to Yelina about her past with Ray.
Horatio looked concerned as Bosco and Danielle led John, David, and Ellie out of the ER, but didn't say anything, "Perhaps instead of worrying about Ray, you could perhaps take the time to visit Mister Wolfe, Horatio," Yelina spoke up in an unusually stern voice. "He's been a patient here for several days..."
Calliegh and Eric are still going over the evidence," Horatio replied in a standoffish voice, not wanting to reveal that Ryan and Emily's own nephew had implicated their mother as a possible assailant. "I do not wish to put Mister Wolfe under any more stress than is necessary. How is he feeling, Miss Wolfe?"
"Speedle is with him now," Emily replied. "Lieutenant, may I speak with you for a moment?"
Horatio nodded and followed Emily down the hallway, "You know something," Emily observed softly.
"I do know something," Horatio replied in a low voice. "I am not sure if I should tell you, though."
Emily tilted her head, but said nothing and Horatio sighed, "Your nephew, Jason Wolfe has been in a holding cell for the last two days as an accomplice to your brother's kidnapping because he confessed to being involved and his father, Tommy Wolfe, turned him in to police," he explained in a somber voice.
"I haven't spoken to Tommy in quite some time, but I am relieved to hear that he seems to have some morals," Emily replied in an uncertain voice, frowning at Horatio. "There's more, isn't there?"
Horatio sighed, "Eric and Callieigh found two sets of prints on Ryan's clothing and the evidence found at the scene," he explained in a low voice. "One set belonged to Clavo Cruz and the other set belonged to a woman named Sarah Wolfe. I need to know, Miss Wolfe, is that woman any relation to you and Ryan?"
Emily paled slightly and nodded just as Tim poked his head out of Ryan's room nearby, "Yes," she replied in a low voice, horrified that the woman could have been so terrible. "Sarah Wolfe is our mother."
Horatio frowned and removed his sunglasses, "I can't tell you more than that without Ryan's permission and he needs to rest right now," Emily explained softly. "Besides, I'm not sure he'd explain it to you..."
For a moment, Horatio was silent and then walked back towards the ER where Sully and Yelina were talking quietly with each other, "Mister Sullivan, I need to know if you know anything about Ryan Wolfe other than what you told me after he was found," he said in a firm voice. "I need to know."
"I'm not talking about that without permission," Sully replied firmly. "Get it and I'll tell you."
Horatio's eyes narrowed, "Do you know of a Sarah Wolfe?" he asked coldly. "She may have been involved in the situation Mister Wolfe was in and all Miss Wolfe would tell me was their relationship."
Yelina frowned in confusion, but Sully sighed, "I would hardly call Sarah Wolfe a mother," he replied in a standoffish voice. "However, it's not my story to tell and I was about to take Yelina out for a walk."
Yelina gave Sully a surprised look, but didn't say anything, "I'll see you later," Horatio replied calmly, knowing Yelina needed time with someone she trusted after dealing with the reappearance of Ray.
As Sully and Yelina left, Horatio decided that it would be better for him to return to the lab and look up Ryan and Emily on the database, as Sarah's file had been flagged and had mentioned an incident several years ago that had involved several officers all over the country. For that reason, Horatio was curious.
Swallowing hard, Horatio put his sunglasses back on and silently left the ER, unaware that Emily had been watching him from the doorway of Ryan's room and was now talking to Speed and Ryan inside.
"Mommy, I want to go to bed," Ellie said in a tired voice, clinging to Danielle's hand as they entered the house with Bosco, John, David, Bobby, BJ, and Adam. "That crazy man scared me really badly."
Danielle sighed tiredly and nodded, gently hugging Ellie, "It's a little early for bed, sweetie, but you can have a nap if you'd like," she replied softly, her anger at Horatio fading. "Unless you want a snack?"
"Is that bad man going to come after me again?" Ellie asked softly, gazing up at Danielle fearfully.
Danielle shook her head and frowned as John silently wandered into the kitchen, "I do not want John, David, or Ellie talking to Lieutenant Caine!" she hissed in an angry voice. "I don't trust him."
"Why don't you trust my uncle, Danielle?" Bobby asked in a confused voice, wincing as he quickly shooing BJ, Adam, David, and Ellie into the kitchen with a wave of his hands. "I need my sling."
Danielle frowned, "Ray Caine tried to assault my children," she replied in a confused voice, watching intently as Bobby put his sling back on. "That's Lieutenant Caine's supposedly dead brother..."
"And my uncle, who I thought long dead," Bobby replied calmly. "I never got to know Uncle Raymond much, as he was very involved in police work even though he had a wife and son to think of."
Bosco frowned as he wandered into the kitchen, "Detective Salas said she was divorced," he replied.
"Divorced?" Bobby asked in a surprised voice. "I didn't keep in touch with people down here when..."
Danielle nodded understandingly, "I can't help but feel afraid of the fact that Uncle Raymond is not only alive, but under the influence," Bobby observed softly. "I'm grateful he doesn't know where I live."
"Mommy, come see what we're making!" Ellie suddenly called out from the kitchen. "It's cool!"
Danielle and Bobby entered the kitchen and smiled at seeing Bosco helping David, Ellie, and BJ make banana sundaes that had no ice cream in them while John and Adam watched from chairs, "I need to go out and water the plants," Bobby said in a calm voice, needing a moment to be alone with his feelings.
Once Bobby, was outside, however, he walked over to the outdoor firepit and silently used a match to light a nice fire before he filled the pit with some wood, "Aah," he said calmly, suddenly feeling the warmth that he had been without since hearing about Uncle Ray from Bosco. "That's better."
Miami-Dade Crime Lab
Determined to access a computer that could share Ryan's mysterious past and mother with him, Horatio stepped off the elevator on to the floor of the lab and was surprised to see that Stetler was sitting in his office at the computer while Lenny slept on the couch with a blanket and pillow making him comfy.
"If you're here to look up Ryan's past on the computer, forget it," Stetler said coldly. "Sully called me."
Horatio frowned, "I'll give you information about Sarah Wolfe that will help you, but if I catch you looking up information on Ryan on the computer, I will fire you," Stetler stated firmly. "Come in."
"I do not wish to discuss this case with you, Rick," Horatio replied coldly, entering the office.
Stetler chuckled, "Monte Parker and I did know each other, contrary to what you know," he replied in an amused voice. "Before I came to Miami's department, I did some of my early career in New York."
"John Sullivan Senior," Horatio stated softly. "I'm assuming that the man knew you somehow."
Stetler nodded, "John Sullivan Senior was a trainer of mine for a while and he also trained Danielle Boscorelli's ex-husband," he explained coldly. "Edward's still in the cells and I'm also aware that your dear brother, Raymond, made his way here as well. I also heard Danielle wants to charge Ray."
Horatio scowled, but Stetler sighed, "You do realize that Danielle and Maurice Boscorelli have the protection of Victims Assistance and they have the right to return to New York if they feel like they are being mistreated," Stetler continued firmly. "Fortunately for you, I promised Danielle and Maurice that Ray would be charged and placed in solitary confinement and that you would be here this evening to take their statements on what happened downtown. I expect you to be completely professional."
At a loss for words, Horatio nodded, "By the way, Delko was ranting in the lab the other day that he doesn't want his sister marrying you, but I don't care what you do as long as you keep fistfights out of the lab," Stetler said calmly as Horatio moved to leave. "You're capable of acting responsibly."
Shocked that Marisol wanted to marry him and had confided in Eric only to get disapproval, Horatio nodded and silently left the office, waiting until he was in the elevator before pulling out his phone.
"Marisol, hello," Horatio said as he dialled a number and a voice answered. "How are you doing?"
Club Cruz
Sarah Wolfe scowled as Clavo came out of his office looking rather frazzled as he wheeled Bernard, who was trembling as he sat there in a loosely fitted suit with an IV in his hand, "Sarah Wolfe," Bernard said in a quiet voice, gazing at Sarah with a bitter expression. "I haven't heard from you in years and now I hear you not only enlisted Tommy's son in a kidnapping, but you also helped Clavo beat Ryan up?"
"I didn't know you owned this club, Bernard?" Sarah Wolfe spat, glaring at Bernard. "I thought..."
Bernard chuckled, "Clavo's in debt to me," he replied sharply. "He manages my properties for now."
"I tried to phone my son and daughter-in-law, but nobody answered," Sarah replied in an anxious voice.
Bernard sighed and glared at Clavo, "You do realize that the Miami-Dade Police Department has probably collected evidence of what you and Sarah have done?" he asked in a cold voice. "I have a heart problem and I will die soon, so you can't expect that I will always be able to clean your messes up."
"Do you want me to go back to L.A. and kill Cardoza?" Clavo asked eagerly. "He spirited Emily away..."
Bernard scoffed, "Cardoza's a fool and I already caused him enough pain by killing his wife," he hissed.
"I don't know where to go!" Sarah howled. "That stupid grandson of mine probably turned me in!"
Bernard chuckled and coughed anxiously, "We cannot help you," he replied callously. "I should be at home and under the care of my private physician, Doctor Tara Price. Clavo, please take me home."
"I want you to help me," Sarah snarled as she reached into her purse and pulled out a small handgun that she had stolen from Tommy's gun cabinet before leaving home that morning. "Or else."
Clavo's eyes widened and Bernard scowled, "I have very little influence, Mrs. Wolfe," Bernard said in a diplomatic voice, eyeing the gun suspiciously. "I am very wealthy, but I have little influence."
Sarah's eyes narrowed and swearing, she promptly turned the gun on Clavo, who looked alarmed as she prepared to fire it, "Don't!" Clavo shouted, swearing as Sarah fired the gun at his foot. "OUCH!"
Bernard sighed calmly, "Mrs. Wolfe, I will be in touch," he replied calmly. "Thank you for coming."
Sarah glared at Bernard, "I suggest you leave before I call the police," Bernard snarled coldly. "I don't appreciate old women coming into my clubs and shooting my staff. Now, get yourself out of here."
Glaring at Bernard, Sarah left with the gun in tow and Bernard let out a sigh of relief, "Call paramedics about that, Clavo," he said in an annoyed voice, gazing at Clavo's foot as he pulled out his phone.
MDPD Crime Lab
Aggravated that yet another day had gone by with his request for wanting to be given CSI training being ignored, Dan Cooper finished putting away the AV equipment he had been testing and silently walked down the long, dark, empty hallway towards the elevator that would take him to his rundown car.
The ringing of a phone suddenly caused Dan to stop and he quickly realized that the ringing was coming from the trash can next to the receptionist's desk. Frowning, Dan reached into the can and pulled out a cell-phone, quickly discovering that the data had been wiped and that there was a missed call.
Swallowing hard, Dan pressed the call button and frowned when a voice answered, "Hello?" he asked.
"Who is this?" Clavo's voice asked, realizing that Rick was not answering the phone like he should.
Dan frowned, not recognizing the voice, "This is Dan Cooper," he replied calmly. "Who's this?"
"This is Clavo Cruz," Clavo's voice replied sharply. "Where exactly did you get this phone?"
Before Dan could reply, he saw a light go on in an interview room and a few moments later, he saw the elevator doors open and Horatio lead a man and a teenage boy on to the floor, both of whom were followed by a dark man that Dan didn't know, "...Thanks for coming on such short notice, Mister Warrick," Dan heard Horatio say as he crept down the hallway. "The Boscorellis appreciate it..."
Not wanting to be seen, Dan bolted into the elevator before it closed, "Lieutenant Caine just came on to the floor with a man, a teenage boy, and some guy named Mister Warrick," he explained breathlessly.
"Keep the phone handy," Clavo's voice replied, shocked that Warrick from Vegas was currently in Miami.
Dan frowned as the caller hung up and he quickly put the phone in his pocket as the elevator doors slid shut, whisking him down to the main lobby with questions about why he had answered the phone.
Back in the interview room, Warrick made himself comfortable on a chair in the corner of the room and watched as Horatio sat on one side of the table while Bosco and John sat on the other side, "How are you doing tonight, John?" Horatio asked calmly, determined that this interview would be productive.
"I'm fine, sir," John replied in a guarded tone. "My dad made sure I ate before we came over here."
Bosco looked surprised at being referred to as 'Dad', but nodded, "Okay, so this interview will be recorded and analyzed at a later date," Horatio replied calmly. "What happened downtown?"
"I was in a store just hanging out with David while Mom looked at baby clothes," John explained calmly, noting the camera in the corner of the room. "I started looking at the beach and thinking about stuff and David told Mom I zoned out. Mom and I were talking and I suddenly had a bit of a panic attack, so we all went outside. I was calming down when I suddenly saw some guy running towards us looking angry..."
Horatio frowned, but said nothing, "The guy introduced himself as Raymond Caine, said he worked for Victims Assistance, and said he needed to talk to me," John continued softly. "Mom asked where his badge was and he screamed that they took his badge away and grabbed me really roughly. David slammed into Raymond and we all fell on the ground and that got my mom screaming for help."
Tears filled John's eyes and he trembled, "Mister Warrick showed up at that point and got Ray away from us, but Ray fought with Mister Warrick," he explained shakily. "Mister Warrick said that Ray wasn't with Victims Assistance anymore and that Grissom sent him to be backup support for Grandpa. Ray got all creepy with Ellie and then she started crying because he was referring to her as pretty little girl..."
Heartsick, Horatio nodded and sighed, "Well, Mister Sullivan, the good news is that Raymond will remain in jail for the time being," he replied calmly. "As for the matter concerning Monte Parker, you still need to give information on that, but I will wait until Miss Wolfe can be present as she is your counselor."
John nodded and sighed tiredly, "Are we done?" he asked softly. "I kinda want to get out of here."
Warrick frowned when Horatio didn't say anything, "I've never liked police stations," John said softly as he stood up and moved over to the door. "Um, Maurice, can I go to the bathroom for a minute?"
"You all right?" Bosco asked in a concerned voice, noticing how pale and uncomfortable John looked.
John shrugged, "I just need to use the bathroom," he replied softly, edging his way out into the hall.
Bosco, however, silently got up and followed John, "Don't run off just cause you don't like Lieutenant Caine," he said calmly, spotting John near an exit stairwell. "I promise we'll get out of here soon."
"Why is Marisol Delko here?" John asked coldly, glaring at Bosco. "I saw her in a car as we were coming in and I don't feel like talking to her about what happened yet. Is Lieutenant Caine going to make me?"
Bosco frowned, "Which car?" he asked in a confused voice as John walked back. "Lieutenant Caine's?"
"Yeah," John replied anxiously. "She was sitting in the passenger seat of a Hummer and reading."
Gritting his teeth, Bosco marched back to the interview room with John at his heels, "Lieutenant Caine, John told me that he saw Marisol Delko in your car outside," he said coldly, glaring at Horatio.
"I am currently seeing Marisol Delko and we were going to go out this evening after the interview," Horatio replied in a calm voice. "She is waiting for me and had no intention of upsetting John."
Bosco nodded and John mumbled an apology before sitting back down, "Is Ray going to go to prison?" John asked in a suspicious voice. "I know he's your brother, sir, but he really needs some help."
"I don't know," Horatio replied uncertainly, sharing a look of confusion and concern with Warrick.
"Here are some cups of tea for you ladies," Bobby said in a kind voice as he came into the living room where an emotionally bedraggled Danielle and a tired Emily were sitting, having quiet conversation about that day's downtown incident. "Danielle, you'll be happy to know that David and Ellie went to bed around the same time BJ and Adam did even though they all wanted to wait up for Bosco and John."
Danielle and Emily smiled as they accepted the tea cups, "Thank you, Detective Caine," Emily replied kindly, noting that Danielle had no spare emotion to express gratitude. "How are you doing?"
"Oh, I'm all right," Bobby replied softly. "If you two will excuse me, I need to clean up the yard a bit."
As Bobby silently moved into the kitchen to go outside, Danielle set the cup of tea on the coffee table, but Emily sipped hers, "After what happened downtown today, I think you ought to take a day completely for yourself, Danielle," Emily said in a gentle, but professional voice. "You've got to think of the baby as well as yourself and perhaps some time at a day spa exclusively for women would help."
"That sounds lovely, but I can't afford it," Danielle replied softly, rubbing her belly. "Money's..."
Emily sighed, "I'm part of this cancer support group and a lady in the group, Marisol Delko, has invited me to come with her to a spa in a couple of days," she explained, unsure of how to bring up the double mastectomy. "You'd be more than welcome to come and relax if you wanted to. I'll pay for it."
"Oh, Emily, you don't have to," Danielle replied softly, sighing as Emily nodded. "All right, I'll come."
Emily smiled and finished off her tea, "Do you want to talk about today?" she asked gently.
"It scared me," Danielle replied softly. "It reminded when Edward used to do that around New York and I'd have to leave John with a neighbor to go get him out of jail. I don't know why I did that, though."
Emily sighed, "You thought you loved him at the time," she replied softly. "Did you?"
"When I got pregnant with John, my dad said I didn't have to get married to Edward, but Edward said he'd take John from me and kill my father if I didn't," Danielle explained softly. "I put up with Edward until the day Doc told me that Edward assaulted John and then I got custody of both John and David in the divorce because there was proof of the attack. Ellie was a product of a surprise attack from Edward."
Her expression sympathetic, Emily nodded, but didn't say anything, "I'm so grateful for Maurice because he loves both the kids and I so much," Danielle continued softly. "He went with John tonight."
"Tonight?" Emily asked in a confused voice, giving Danielle a look. "Did they go on a father-son thing?"
Danielle frowned, "Lieutenant Caine wanted to talk to John tonight about what happened downtown," she replied in a confused voice. "Maurice went with them and I assumed you were going to be there."
"Lieutenant Caine didn't tell me about that," Emily replied softly. "I'm John's counselor and I should..."
Danielle nodded and Emily sighed, "I suppose I can't be angry and consider it a wasted day because I spent time with James and Julliet before I went to see Ryan," Emily mused softly. "Ryan will be able to get out of the hospital in a couple days. John and David seeing him probably saved his life, Danielle."
"I'm grateful for my two wonderful sons," Danielle replied softly, seeing that Emily was very serious.
Emily nodded and sighed heavily, "I'm sorry, but I'm very tired," she replied softly. "I might go soon."
"When was your last chemo?" Danielle asked softly. "I'm a paramedic and I've seen many patients..."
Emily sighed, "I'm on a break from chemo until after my double mastectomy next month," she replied calmly, giving Danielle a calm look. "I don't want you, John, or your family worrying about me, okay?"
"If that's your wish, I'll honor it," Danielle replied, angry that Horatio didn't include Emily in John's interview even though Emily and John had been talking over Skype since before they came to Miami.
Emily nodded, "Even if Lieutenant Caine wants to make my workload easier by not including me in all of the meetings with John, I'll still be very happy to help you and your family," she replied in a calm voice.
Before Danielle could reply, the front door could be heard opening, "Hello?" Bosco's voice called out.
"Oh, that'll be Officer Boscorelli and John," Emily replied softly as she stood. "I should be going so that you can spend some time with your family. Tell John that I'll talk to him soon about the interview."
Danielle frowned as she stood up and followed Emily out into the foyer, "Hi there, Miss Wolfe," John said in a kind voice, smiling at Emily. "Maurice just took me to an interview with Lieutenant Caine."
"How are you going to get home?" Danielle asked in a confirmed voice. "It's getting awfully late."
Smiling, Emily pulled out her phone and silently composed a brief text message, "I have a ride," she replied in a tired voice, putting her phone in her purse as there was a knock at the door. "Ah."
Bosco opened the door and Tim lingered on the steps, looking rather self-conscious as Bosco, John, and Danielle all looked at him, "This is Tim Speedle of the Miami-Dade Crime Lab," Emily explained kindly.
"Nice to meet you," John finally said, extending a hand to Tim. "Are you giving Miss Wolfe a ride?"
Tim nodded as he shook John's hand, "Yes, John, I am," he replied kindly. "I'll take care of her."
John nodded and wandered into the kitchen, prompting Bosco to trail after him, "I'll contact you once Marisol gives me more information," Danielle said as Tim opened the door for Emily. "See you."
Emily nodded and silently followed Tim outside to a black, four-door car that was parked at the curb, "Where's your bike?" she asked in a confused voice. "This car is very, very nice. Did you rent it?"
Tim was quiet for a moment and shook his head, "I sold my moped," he replied softly, taking her hand with one hand while he unlocked the car with the other. "The time we've spent together has been really good and I love spending time with James and Julliet. I'm surprised how much they trust me."
"Because you are gentle and you can also make them behave," Emily replied gently. "I appreciate that."
Tim nodded and silently opened the passenger door for Emily, "Do you want to go for a drive before I drive you back to my parents house?" he asked softly. "Maybe to the beach for a walk in the sand?"
"I'd honestly like to spend some time with you, James, and Julliet at your parents' house," Emily replied in a tired, but gentle voice, smiling tiredly at Tim. "I'm sorry, but I don't have a lot of energy tonight."
Tim nodded and helped Emily into the car, "McDonald's?" he asked kindly. "Ice cream for the ride?"
"Sounds great," Emily replied softly, sighing as Tim closed the door of the car to go to the driver's seat.
"You didn't have to treat me to dinner, John," Yelina spoke softly as she sat down in the chair that Sully had pulled out for her at the table in the beachside restaurant where he had brought her as a surprise.
Sully smiled as he went to his side of the table and sat down, "I thought it would give you a chance to relax a bit," he replied calmly. "I know you've had a rough day and I thought you could use a friend."
"Rough is a bit of an understatement," Yelina replied softly. "I'm shocked to see that Raymond is still alive and I am very grateful that I quietly divorced him when things were beginning to get bad for us."
Sully nodded and Yelina sighed, "Ray Junior wants nothing to do with him, but I'm afraid that Horatio will try to get the charges waived," she explained softly. "Ray was an undercover Narcotics officer for a long time and then not long before he disappeared, John Hagen reported him to IAB and Ray ended up being put on paid leave. He went to work for Victims' Assistance and then he suddenly disappeared."
"Ray's hasn't been with Victims' Assistance for a while," Sully replied softly. "I heard it from Natalia."
Yelina frowned and sighed, "I just want Raymond to remain in jail," she replied softly, almost sadly.
"I was married once, but she worked for a Russian mobster who ended up responsible for both her and her son's deaths," Sully explained in a solemn voice, feeling as if he could open up to Yelina about Tatiana and the tragedy that ensued there. "I was messed up for a long time after that happened."
Yelina tilted her head in confusion and Sully sighed, "Not many people know about it," he replied.
"Well, it looks as if we both have some healing to do," Yelina replied, giving Sully a reassuring smile.
Sully smiled and picked up a water glass from the table, "To healing," he replied, raising the glass.
"To healing," Yelina replied, smiling as a waitress approached the table with two menus in her hands.
They were about to give orders when Sully's phone went off, indicating that he was receiving a text message. Givig Yelina an apologetic look, as his grandchildren were probably texting him to see where he was, Sully looked at the phone and was surprised to see a message from Rick Stetler that was asking him for help with his son.
Enticed by the warm evening, Natalia walked out into the backyard with a cup of tea in one hand and a magazine in the other, fully intending to read in a lawn chair until she got tired. However, as she was about to sit down, she noticed someone asleep on a lawn chair in front of a covered firepit next door.
Setting her magazine in the chair, Natalia opened the side gate and wandered into the yard, surprised to see that it was Bobby that was asleep in the chair, "Detective Caine?" she asked in a concerned voice.
There was a silence and Bobby opened his eyes, "Oh, Miss Boa Vista, hello," he replied in a kind voice.
"I just live next door and I was out in my yard," Natalia explained gently. "I saw you asleep..."
Bobby nodded and sighed as he rose from the chair, "Sometimes I come outside and sit in front of a warm fire after everyone's asleep," he explained calmly, reaching for a spray bottle that sat next to the firepit and carefully spraying the fire until it was out. "I'm still having insomnia because of memories."
"Memories?" Natalia asked softly, having never read Bobby's file. "Can I ask what memories?"
Bobby was quiet for a moment and then nodded, "My wife, Amanda, had mental illness and was abusive because she didn't want to be medicated and thought I would force her to take medicine," he explained in a somber voice. "The whole way she and my daughter died haunts me as does Maggie's abduction. I also think about the Hagen incident from time to time and I thank myself lucky that he didn't kill me."
"I understand about having an abusive spouse," Natalia spoke softly. "I'm also a survivor of abuse."
Bobby frowned, but didn't say anything, "My ex-husband broke my arm and went to prison for it," Natalia replied in a soft voice. "After he went to prison, I did some traveling and met Gil Grissom. He helped fund the VA organization and he and I help survivors of abuse to start clean and safe lives."
"My uncle, Raymond Caine, told Bosco and his family that he was once part of the network, but they took his badge," Bobby spoke in a confused voice. "Bosco said that my uncle was acting impaired..."
Natalia frowned, "I'm going to have to report that to Grissom," she replied softly. "Is that all right?"
Bobby nodded, "I should probably get inside," he replied softly. "Thanks for taking the time..."
"Of course," Natalia replied gently as she returned to her yard. "Have a good evening, okay?"
Swallowing hard, Bobby silently went into the kitchen and was surprised to see Bosco sitting at the table with a robe over his pajamas, silently doing a crossword puzzle from a book while John sat across from him nursing a large cup of green tea while writing in a journal, "How was your talk with that woman?" Bosco asked, looking up from his crossword book. "I heard you talking to someone with a kind voice."
"Oh, Miss Boa Vista of the Crime Lab apparently lives next door and we talked for a bit," Bobby replied in a calm voice, smiling at Bosco and John as he moved through the kitchen. "Do you need anything?"
John shook his head, "Just doing a therapy exercise," he replied softly. "To deal with insomnia."
Bobby nodded and yawned, "Good for you for opening up to somebody," Bosco commented gently.
"Good night," Bobby replied calmly, nodding as he left the kitchen and headed up the long staircase.
John silently continued to write and drink his tea for a few minutes before he sighed, closed the journal, and set the mug down, "I think I'm ready to go to bed and sleep," he said softly. "The exercise helped."
Bosco nodded and John sighed, "Why is this thing about Doc getting dragged out for so long?" he asked in an irritated voice as he stood up and gathered the journal. "I'm starting to hate being back in Miami."
Before Bosco could reply, John sighed and let out a yawn that nearly prompted him to cough," John commented softly. "I'll ask him how his date went in the morning. Have a good night, okay Dad?"
Surprised that John had referred to him as 'Dad', Bosco nodded, "Good night," he replied calmly, deciding to clean up the table and the mug before going to bed since it wasn't his house or kitchen.
Deeply grateful that she had managed to check into a nice hotel with a credit card, Sarah Wolfe exited the McDonalds' with one hand carrying an ice cream cone while the other was carrying a bag of other treats that she would eat to help her alleviate her depression and anxiety about what she had done to Ryan.
Tommy and his family were looking for her, but she knew she had to stay away from them for the moment because she was very aware that Jason was currently in trouble for serving as the driver and he had most likely implicated that she had asked Clavo Cruz for help in wanting to reunite with Ryan in such a terrible way.
"...Does that help?" Sarah heard a man ask in a kind voice from a car in the parking lot. "It's cold..."
There was a tired chuckle, "I feel guilty about taking time for things like this, but I guess I shouldn't," Sarah suddenly heard Emily say in a tired voice. "Marisol invited me on a spa outing in a few days..."
"That should help you feel better," Tim's voice spoke softly. "Can I ask if you need a bit of a bodyguard?"
Sarah snarled and started to walk back towards the hotel as Emily chuckled tiredly and explained that the spa was only for women and that he was scheduled for work on the day they were scheduled to go.
"I'll definitely see you there, my dear," Sarah hissed, knowing she had to shut Emily up once and for all.
Downtown Miami
"I didn't mean to upset John, Horatio," Marisol said in a meek voice as she and Horatio entered a family-style restaurant after spending time in the car talking about the earlier incident involving John and also about the fact that their relationship was getting rather serious. "I could have met you somewhere instead of coming..."
Horatio sighed calmly as they waited for a table, "Mister Sullivan has been through quite a bit and from what I understand, you were present the day he was abducted by Clavo, so your presence may have triggered a reaction," he replied gently, smiling at her. "However, you don't need to worry about it."
Nodding, Marisol looked around the busy restaurant and frowned when she suddenly spotted Sully and Yelina standing at a table where a nervous looking Rick and a timid looking Lenny, who was wearing oversized clothes, were sitting, "Horatio, isn't that Detective Salas and Sergeant Stetler?" she asked.
"It is," Horatio replied, taking her hand and watching as Sully and Yelina took chairs across from Rick and Lenny as if they were old friends and had been invited. "It's very curious as to what they are doing here."
Before Marisol could offer a comment, Yelina spotted them and she rose, wasting no time in walking over to them before anyone could stop her, "Horatio, I would like to talk to you," Yelina said calmly.
"I'm not going to drop the charges against Raymond, Yelina," Horatio replied calmly. "It's out of my hands and I assure you that I won't allow him to be disruptive. How has your evening been going?"
Yelina cleared her throat, "John Sullivan Senior and I went to dinner somewhere else, but Sully was called and asked by Sergeant Stetler to help with Lenny since Lenny's never been to dinner before," she explained in a calm voice. "I should probably get back since Ray Junior is on his way to join us here in a cab. He wants to meet John."
"Interesting," Horatio murmured as Yelina returned to the table. "I certainly was not expecting such an evening."
