Author's note: I am so sorry for this very late update. Since my last update, I never had time to write, and including my puppy (who is now 10 months old) has kept me busy. Anyway, a massive thank you to my beta Moonrose99.

Everybody needs a place in the world. Some people are born to them. Hiccup was drawing a picture of Stoick and his crew on a fishing trip out at sea in his diary. Some people discover theirs. Hiccup and Toothless bond for the first time when Toothless allows Hiccup to put a hand on his snout. Or in the days of kill-or-be-killed. People make a place for themselves as Hiccup draws Gobber, making weapons and bringing out a full wagon for everyone. In comparison, Hiccup draws Gobber as he faces off against a Monstrous Nightmare while everything in the village goes amuck.

"Now, kids, it's time to go to bed," Fannar told the hatchlings as he watched protectively at his family as Bergljot made a small circle with a small flame and went to sleep while Hiccup and Balder lay down, waiting for their mate and father to enter the nest.

The following day the rising sun turns to Gobber's smithy, where he is forging a sword, but he acknowledges there's no point anymore.

But then the world around them changes, and the place they made is gone.

At the same time, the Teens live gathered in the new Berk Dragon Training Academy, where Hiccup (while his two mischievous children are sleeping in the wagon acting like a pram next to Hiccup.)

It is quizzing them on dragons. The Teens stand split into two teams: Astrid and Fishlegs on one team, then Snotlout and the Twins on the other.

"Every Dragon has the unique abilities that give it its special place in the world. Which dragon makes the best welding torch?" Hiccup asked.

"Oh! Deadly Nadder!" Astrid answered excitedly.

"Its magnesium flame burns with the heat of the sun!" Fishlegs continued while also following the excitement of Astrid.

"Correct! Point to Team Astrid. The score is now 100 to 10." Hiccup congratulated Astrid and Fishlegs while writing the points on the arena wall.

"And you started with 10." Astrid said with a smirk and a hint of gloating in her eyes.

"Oh, yeah? Well, the game's not over. Wait, what team am I on?" Tuffnut asked with confusion.

Ignoring one of the twins, Hiccup decided it was time for the next question. "Next question. What is the shot limit of a Hideous Zippleback? Team Snotlout."

"I don't think they can count that high," Astrid said smugly in her voice and eyes.

"Oh?" Ruffnut said with annoyance and, with a smile full of glee, looked towards the Hideous Zippleback. "Let's find out! Barf! Belch!" Ruffnut shouted.

Barf and Belch shoot six fireballs at the other team; Astrid and Fishlegs barely duck in time.

"Take that, you bitch!" Barf said with anger towards Astrid.

Fannar then growled in warning towards the Zippleback. "I'd like to remind you that two hatchlings are present."

Barf and Belch then lowered their heads in apology, which was gladly accepted by Fannar.

It looks like it's about three." Tuffnut said as he held up only two fingers.

"Told you we could count that high!" Ruffnut said with a smile and confidence in her eyes. While ignoring her crush, Fishlegs mouthing six towards her team.

Hiccup said he wrote the score on the scoreboard but smiled as he saw Bergljot and Balder yawn.

"Yes! We're up to 30!" Ruffnut excitedly said to get a high score while high-fiving Snotlout and Tuffnut.

"Alright, it's our turn. What happens when you shoot fire at the owner of a Deadly Nadder?" Astrid says with competitiveness as she whistles for Stormfly, who shoots her tail spikes at the other team, pinning them to the wall unharmed.

"No fair! She didn't give us time to answer!" Tuffnut said with annoyance.

Snotlout jumps down from the wall.

"I've got a question. What happens when I sic Hookfang on you?" Snotlout shouted with anger and embarrassment.

Hiccup, noticing it's going a bit far, decided to try and end it. "Okay, guys, that's enough training. So... we did some outstanding work here today."

Still ready for a fight, Snotlout ignored Hiccup's attempts and walked toward Astrid's face while ignoring Stormfly's glare.

"Prepare to face the Monstrous Nightmare!" Hookfang sends a flamethrower toward Stormfly. Proving his point towards the female rider and dragon, he patted Snotlou, and Hookfang suddenly rears up and sets himself on fire, burning Snotlout's butt.

"AH! THAT'S THE THIRD TIME THIS WEEK!" Snotlout shouted in pain and fear as he jumped into a nearby water tub, putting out his flaming butt. "Aahhh... sweet relief."

"Hookfang never flames up when you're riding him. Is he okay?" Hiccup asked confusedly, seeing this new event, and approached Hookfang. "Are you okay?"

"My queen, it hurts," Hookfang told Hiccup with pain in his eyes.

Ignoring Hiccup and Hookfang, Astrid looked at Snotlout and said with sarcasm. "Maybe he just

acknowledged who his owner is."

"There's room in here for three," Snoutlout said as he noticed Astrid staring at him and couldn't help but tease his cousin-in-law Fannar.

Astrid grabs his helmet and shoves him back underwater. Snotlout gasps but screams as Fannar sends a small plasma blast toward the tub, which causes the water to be hot for the human. At the same time, Hiccup (and the twins who were still in the wagon) and Fannar leave the arena.

After walking for thirty minutes, the family of four saws at the plaza; Gobber was trying to sell his weapons to a gathered crowd.

"Gather around! Come on, one and all! You may think these dragon-killing weapons are useless, but think again! This long sword is now a lovely butter knife!" Gobber then tries to spread the butter but only breaks the toast into little crumbs. "Eh. It's also good for making breadcrumbs." (The plate cracks and breaks. The crowd looks on in silence. "Moving on."

Mildew comes up beside Hiccup with a voice of mock pity. "Well, this is a dark day. A great dragon slayer peddling his weapons as kitchen utensils? Hm. Tsk-tsk-tsk-tsk."

Gobber then starts holding up a mace. "Up next, how about this…" Gobber pauses as he tries to think of a good purpose when he sees a fly land on the nearby table .…" Handy flyswatter?" Gobber brings the mace down and smashes the table. The crowd gasps. Gobber looks at the result. "He-he. Also good for getting rid of unwanted tables." The fly emerges from the wreck completely unharmed. Gobber then Walks over to a giant catapult. "Now, for the lady of the house! When the hubby's off pillaging, how can you protect yourself from home invaders when the hubby's off pillaging? No problem when you have Big Bertha!"

Suddenly, the catapult flings open, hurling a stone into Silent Sven's house. He looks confused. The crowd disperses while murmuring; Mildew tsks at Hiccup again; Gobber is frantic to get what attention he had been commanding. "Hey, wait! There's more! Come back! You haven't seen everything yet! I haven't cleared out my dungeon yet!" He gives up and pats the catapult. "It's okay, Bertha. We'll find a place for you."

It's hard to watch. The feelings of guilt must be tearing at your insides. You put Gobber out of business with your peace pact with the dragons and ruined it.

Riders of Berk

Later that evening, Hiccup is in his bedroom with his children and dominant, thinking over what happened with Gobber.

"You know Gobber made this for me?" Hiccup said as he lifted his fake leg out and allowed Bergljot to smell the leg. "He taught me everything I needed to know to make your tail. Before I met you, gobber became my second father to me. When my father was busy doing his duties as a chief, he looked after me. He also changed my diapers, but the thing he always did. He fought for me when no one else did." I've gotta find some way to help him." Hiccup sighed.

"I will help you with my min skat," Fannar said as he nuzzled his mate's neck and licked the mating bite on Hiccup.

Stoick enters the house, very exhausted. Stoick sighed as he set his helmet down on the nearest table and took a seat. Hiccup comes downstairs to greet him with his mate and children, knowing his father would be starving.

"Tough day of chiefing, Dad?" Hiccup asked as he looked into their pantry for ingredients for the two human's dinner.

"I was all over the Island. I married the Svensson girl to the Odegaard boy at dawn. Then down to the fields where some kids were tipping over yaks." After finding the drink in the pantry, Hiccup brings Stoick a mug of ale. "Then back up to the newlyweds to settle a domestic dispute. I guess that honeymoon's over. Sometimes I wish there were two of me."

Hiccup paused, gathering the ingredients, and looked at his father with an epiphany. "Dad, there are two of you!"

"Is that another crack about my weight?!" Stoick demanded with irritation, slamming down the mug hard on the table, which caused Balder to cry with confusion.

Fannar growled menacingly towards Stoick.

"You do NOT make my children cry. You arsehole!" Fannar, ignoring Stoick's fearful gaze, linked Balder with love and kindness within his eyes and gently but forcefully took Hiccup upstairs.

Later that night, Hiccup stands breastfeeding Balder, and unknown to the mates, Stoick is watching them with a sad expression and glares at the cup of ale and throws it into the dying fire.

"My mate, before Stoick made Balder scared, what did you mean by there are two of you?"

"I meant Gobber. Gobber knows a lot more of the duties of the chief since Gobber is my father's right-hand man."

Stoick, who could see his mistake, walked into Hiccup's and Fannar's bedroom.

"I'm sorry about my reaction earlier. Gobber is too busy making all those dragon-killing. Well, it used to be, until you- Which is great!"

"Exactly my point!" Hiccup whispered as he saw Balder falling asleep, and Bergljot was fighting her sleep by throwing a little plasma blast toward her father, much to Fannar's expiration and fondness.

Stoick looked at Hiccup and stately whispered. "She's a firecracker."

"She sure is." Hiccup whispered back. "Oh, and on the subject of Gobber?"

"You know, that's not a bad idea. I could use a right hand, and I'll tell him tomorrow. Stoick returned to his bedroom downstairs, not knowing the chaos that Gobber accidentally brought.

Riders of Berk

The next day, Stoick and Gobber are in the plaza, discussing the plan for the day.

"I greatly appreciate you helping me out, Gobber." Stoick smiled as he looked at Gobber.

"I'm just glad I could find time in my busy schedule, Stoick," Gobber said with a sad smile since everyone knows that Gobber has no job, which means no place within the tribe.

"I've got a full day ahead of me. Here's your half." Stoick explained as he took out a small sheet of paper and split it in half, one for him and one for Gobber.

"Oh, that'll be interesting," Gobber told Stoick with excitement and interest.

"Now remember, some of these situations are delicate. They require diplomacy." Stoick cautioned Gobber.

"Ah, no problem!" Gobber said with optimism. "I'm great at…" The blonde-haired Viking then hesitates. "That."

Stoick, ignoring the slight hesitation, asked Gobber in shock. "Really? You? You can speak to people with tact and sensitivity?"

"Oh, I thought it meant clubbing people on the head and asking questions later. But I can give your thing a shot." Gobber said without any hesitation and walked away, not knowing that Stoick was having regrets about following Hiccup's plan.

'This is not going to go well.' Stoick thought as he walked to make his half of the list.

Riders of Berk

Later, Gobber is in the Great Hall, leading a naming ceremony for a new baby.

"Whosoever brings this child into the Hooligan tribe, let him be known," Gobber announced to the family and elders of the tribe.

The parents bring the baby forth. "As a representative of the chief, I welcome this baby into the Hooligan tribe. And pronounce the name to be ..."

The father whispers "Hildegard" into Gobber's ear. Gobble doesn't think so by the looks of horror he gives to the parents.

"Eeh. Hildegard? He doesn't appear like a Hildegard to me. Let's go with Magnus."

"But she's a girl, Gobber!" The mother shouted at Gobber as she was offended by the Viking.

"Don't worry; she's not gonna look like one," Gobber said as he tried to reassure the parents. "Magnus it is!" Gobber then picks up a large mace by his side. "And please accept this teething toy on behalf of Stoick the Vast."

It was horrified by the mother taking her baby away from Gobber but not without giving him a look of disdain and a glimpse of warning from the father.

Riders of Berk

Later, Gobber is at Mulch and Bucket's house, trying to settle a dispute.

"Bucket says you never paid him for the sheep," Gobber informed Mulch.

"I never bought a sheep!" Mulch defends himself until Baa's life stands heard, and a sheep is seen behind Mulch, making him look guilty.

"Who's that? A little woman?" Gobber questioned with a smirk, knowing he was doing his chief proud.

"Oh, Mulch. You're cheating me now?" Bucket said with a hurt look, and if you look closely, Bucket is close to crying.

Gobber, not thinking diplomatically, hands Mulch and Bucket a mace and hammer. "There's only one way to settle this."

Gobber walks out. There's an awkward moment of silence before the two raise their weapons. Outside, the sounds of the fight can be heard Gobber smiles and crosses an item off his list. "Diplomacy? Check. Alright?

Riders of Berk

Later, Gobber is hard at work placing iron slabs on Silent Sven's boat.

"But if you ask me, there's nothing like a slab of iron! Nothing's getting through this!"

Stoick, along with Hildegard/Magnus's parents, Mulch and Bucket, approaches Gobber with anger and frustration on their faces.

"Gobber! What do you think you're doing?" Stoick shouted with frustration towards his long-time friend.

Gobber smiled back at Stoick, choosing to ignore his friend's anger. "Just checking another item off the list," Gobber said as he checked it off, then tapped the ship once with his hammer hand. The ship suddenly slips off the dock and into the water, where the weight of the added iron only makes it sink. "And adding an item for later. "Recover a sunken ship." Gobber looks at Stoick with a smile. "Same time tomorrow?"

Stoick sighs exasperatedly.

Riders of Berk

That evening, Stoick places two blocks of ice on his head, trying to ease the headache.

Hiccup hands him a mug of ale, while Fannar watches Balder, who is sleeping very well in his basset, while Bergljot stands seen making small plasma blasts

towards the fireplace with the help of her father.

"Here you go, Dad." Hiccup stopped as he noticed the blocks of ice. "Wow. A two-block headache. You know, Dad, I think you're being rough on Gobber. It was his first day. Tomorrow will be way better." Hiccup said with a reassuring smile.

"Oh, it will be for me. Because it won't involve Gobber." Stoick said with frustration and irritation.

"What do you mean?" Hiccup asked with confusion in his tone.

Stock removed one of the ice blocks and explained. "I tried to fit a square peg in a round hole, and it sank a ship and named a baby girl Magnus!" Stoick then honestly told Hiccup. "Now, I'm not saying she didn't look like Magnus, but try telling that to her parents."

Stoick then looked at his son and the village Vǫlva. "Which you were supposed to be at to have Freya bless the child."

"Oh, the parents asked me to do that within the privacy of their home not long after the child was born." Hiccup explained. "Back to the subject of Gobber. I can't believe you let him go! Well, we've got to help him!"

"We don't have to do anything. You, on the other hand, are going to be very busy finding a job for Gobber." Stoick said with a look that said don't cross me.

Hiccup could only sigh.

Riders of Berk

The next day, the teens and their dragons are gathered at the Academy as Hiccup, his two kids and mate, tell them his plan.

"You're bringing Gobber here?" Fishlegs questioned with caution in his tone.

"He's going to be great. Nobody knows dragons like old Gobber. He's spent a lifetime, you know, studying them. If we can tap into that, we'll all be better Dragon Trainers." Hiccup told the teens while trying to sound optimistic and encouraging but failed tremendously.

Suddenly, the doors burst open, and in comes Gobber, lugging a whole cart full of weapons.

"I'm back! Did you miss me?" Gobber exclaimed with excitement.

The dragons are intimidated as they hide between their king and queen. Caused Fannar to growl at his mate's second father, and little Bergljot lifted her wings and prepared to send Gobber's pants on fire while Balder was asleep in his sling against his mother's breasts, sucking on his thumb.

"First of all, welcome. And second, a tiny question, why did you bring you, you know...?" Hiccup asked since he could feel Fannar's protectiveness from the bond.

"Killing things? We could train them…." Gobber explains as he takes out an unusual-looking weapon, like a sword mixed with an ax and a mace. …" by threatening to kill them. That's how my dad taught me to swim." Gobber slams the weapon into the ground, breaking the earth. "School's in session!" Gobber shouted.

Frightened, the dragons, all except Toothless, fly off. Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, and the twins take off after them.

"Eh. I didn't like school either." Gobber missed the point and left the arena, not knowing that Bergljot had put his pants on fire.

Hiccup could only sigh as he watched his second father go.

"Fannar, is there anything I can do to help him?" Hiccup asked his dominant mate as he was now breastfeeding little Balder.

"I don't know," Fannar admitted. "Let's hope weapons aren't involved." Fannar then looks at Bergljot with a clear warning in his eyes. "As for you, little one, you do not put Gobber on fire… that's my job."

"Fannar!" Hiccup shouted with expiration and fondness. "He is my second father."

"I know, but I'm not having him waking Blader up from the shock, and besides, he made our guard even scared," Fannar explained gently and rubbed his neck on the mating bite he gave Hiccup and in return; Hiccup gave Fannar a kiss between his eyes.

Riders of Berk

Later, the teens ride back to the Academy with their dragons. They dismount, groaning in pain.

"What's wrong with you guys?" Hiccup asked with concern as he walked up to the dragons to check for any damage.

"Ugh. We've been riding our dragons for four hours." Astrid says as she gets in Stormfly's face. "It took forever to chase them down after Gobber scared them away."

"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I don't know what to do with him." Hiccup apologized to the teens and the official guards of the royal family. He then sees Ruffnut kicking Tuffnut's butt. "Do you guys always have to fight?"

"It's okay. I asked her to do that. I was trying to get the feeling back." Tuffnut explained.

Ruffnut Bends down. "You gonna return the favor or what?" Tuffnut proceeds to kick her butt.

"My king?" Meatlug said as she saw Fannar watching the twins fight.

"I apologize for the queen's secondary father, and I hope you and the rest of the guard are unharmed?" Fannar asked as he looked toward the rest of the dragons.

"I'll need therapy for the next month," Stormfly said as she preened her scales.

"I'll kill that fucking Viking; wait until I get my claws on him…." Hookfang growled.

"Can we set an explosion in his shop?" Barf and Belch asked Fannar with an innocent smile.

"I'm okay; I am a boulder class, though I'm unsure of my rider," Meatlug answered with a gentle smile.

Fannar looked at Meatlug. "I am glad you are well." Fannar then turns to Stormfly. "I'm sure my mate will kindly listen to you, Stormfly." Fannar then looked at Hookfang with a clear warning. "I'd watch your language if I was you. There are two hatchlings around, and I do not want Balder's first word to be a curse word, and you will not kill that Viking." Fannar then looked at Barf and Belch and could only sigh. "No, you may not cause an explosion in Gobber's shop."

Hiccup, hearing the last bit of the conversation, looked at Fannar with worry; Fannar, with the mate bond, told him it was okay and to deal with the teens' issue.

"I've flown for hours on Fannar, and I've never had a problem." Hiccup said with confusion.

"That's because you have a saddle," Astrid said with a miserable look.

"Saddles.." Hiccup mumbled as it gave him an idea and left for the blacksmiths, but he looked back at the other teens. "Oh, don't let the dragons go near the blacksmith's for today, as they are planning to murder him for his stunts earlier."

The teens could only look at their dragons with confusion, but all they received was a look of innocence from their respected dragons.

"I… I don't want to know." That was all that the teens said as they all left for home.

Riders of Berk

Later, in Gobber's smithy

"Saddles? I love it! I've got so many ideas!" Gobber said until he looked at Hiccup's drawing with disinterest, then tossed them aside. "But not like these. Good ones."

"I'm glad you're excited. But I still think there are some things in my designs you could use. I mean, you did teach me everything I know." Hiccup said with a smile while gently shushing Balder within his swing.

"Exactly. That's why you should let Gobber do what Gobber does best. I've been making saddles since you were in diapers. I made your diapers." Gobber then paused and looked at Balder. "And his diapers now. That reminds me, do you need more diapers?" Gobber asked.

"But back to the saddles. I still have plenty left. But back to the saddles. I know you know what you're doing. So you need to adjust."

"Hiccup." Gobber unkindly interrupted Hiccup.

"But-" Hiccup was going to say something.

"Hiccup." Gobber interrupted once again.

"But, I just think-"

Gobber still needs to listen to his honorary son. "Hicc. Up. I may have taught you everything you know, but I haven't taught you everything I know."

Hiccup gives in and leaves Gobber to his work.

Gobber can be heard happily and boisterously singing, 'I've got my ax, and I've got my mace, and I love my wife with the ugly face! I'm a Viking through and through! Hmmm!' throughout Berk and especially in one particular house.

"He may be a good blacksmith but singing. He's like a cat drenched by dragon saliva." Fannar winced as Gobber released what was supposed to be a high note.

"You know, he sings that song when he is happy." Hiccup informed Fannar. "Anyway, do you think Gobber followed my plans?"

"I do not know my min lille blomst," Fannar admitted. "But what I do know…" But before Fannar could continue, Bergljot burped, and a little flame came out of her snout and hit on the stone slab. "Is that our daughter going to be a great fire starter.."

Hiccup could only laugh at his daughter and smiled as he saw Balder blinking sleepily within his crib. "Alright, children, it's time to sleep." Hiccup then cradles Bergljot in his arms and starts to sing the children's lullaby.

"Þið finnið leið1

As the final verse ended, the whole of Berk fell asleep from Hiccup's song, like a siren calling the sailors to their deaths.

Riders of Berk

The next day, at the Academy, the gang and their dragons are gathered to see Gobber's handiwork.

"Alright, this is an exciting day for all of us. Gobber has been working hard too" Hiccup started to speak but very gently was pushed away by Gobber after seeing Fannar and little Bergljot, who (was on her father's back) glared.

In contrast, Balder is sleeping in the pram with a blanket made out of Fannar's softest scales and an old tunic that belonged to Hiccup.

They might want to hear from the artist himself. Gobber proudly makes his announcement as the teens get excited. "I've made a lot of saddles in my day. Horse, donkey, and now, dragon, But these saddles are special. They're like my children if you strapped your child to a flaming reptile and rode it. So without further ado-" Gobber then unveils the odd-looking-and-equipped saddles. The reaction is immediate.

"Whoa!" Tuffnut said with a look of awe on his face.

"Wow!" Astrid and Snotlout both said together.

"Wow, Gobber. This-this is certainly not what I imagined." Hiccup clearly stated with a look of surprise, not including the loom of the horror of the dragons seeing the saddles.

Gobber missed the point. "How could it be? I'm Gobber! Nobody knows what it's like to live here." Gobber taps his helmet with his hammer hand.

Hiccup points to Snotlout's new saddle, armed with a blower and a bit of lit-up hay. "Is-is that-?"

"Yep! Flamethrower." Gobber gives Hiccup a demonstration. "Didn't see that one coming, did ya?"

"Uh...no, not for dragons. They come with one built-in." Hiccup said with confusion and worry for the dragon's health.

"I know, but can ya have too much firepower?" Gobber asked as he missed the hidden meaning between Hiccup's words.

The twins load large rocks into each catapult on their saddles and launch them, only to have both Barf and Belch struck in the head, and they fall to the ground.

"Ow!" Ruffnut cried with pain.

"Uh, catapults for the twins? Not such a good idea." Hiccup told Gobber gently.

Gobber shrugs.

"Fishlegs' saddle is equipped with four large maces, which Meatlug has difficulty staying aboveground.

"This is so heavy. My king, stop this madness." Meatlug said but fell due to exhaustion, which caused her to breathe heavily.

"Oh, come on! You can't tell me my saddle is heavier than Fishlegs!" Gobber shouted with disappointment; a growl could stand and listen within the arena.

"Get that fucking saddle away from me!" Hookfang shouted with fear and pain.

Seeing this commotion, Hiccup walked up to the dragon and gently touched his snout.

"Hookfang, are you okay?" Hiccup asked his member of the guard with a gentle and soothing voice.

"It hurts so much. Make it stop." Hookfang cried in pain. But, before Hiccup could get any information from Hookfang, Astrid landed with Stormfly.

"My saddle is okay," Stormfly said with happiness. "I can protect you, my king."

"I wouldn't speak too soon," Fannar replied.

"Why?"

Before Fannar could answer, Astrid blows into the horn, which is telescope-like. The bigger it is, the more amplified the sound is. Startles Stormfly and she sends spines flying, pinning Snotlout to the wall.

"That's why…" Fannar ended weakly and walked towards his submissive mate, who looked around the arena in shock and horror.

"You haven't made a saddle for my kids, have you?" Hiccup asked worriedly after looking around the arena.

"Nope," Gobber answered. "I was planning to, but I didn't get their measurements from you."

Hiccup sighed quietly with gratefulness and decided to stay on the current subject, the saddles for the dragons. "So, anyway, I-I think we're gonna need to make a few-"

"Changes." Gobber interrupted with a smile. "I'm way ahead of you. I've got so many ideas! It's gettin' crowded up here." Chuckled Gobber;

Simultaneously, Hiccup and Fannar share a look of worry.

Riders of Berk

Later in the early to mid-evening, Hiccup cleans up the arena full of burn marks. Stoick enters the hall, looking around in surprise.

"My Odin! This place looked better when we were killing dragons here!" Stoick shouted with shock.

"Watch it!" Fannar growled. "It's your fault for making Hiccup take Gobber in. Since you didn't have the guts to tell Gobber the truth!"

Hiccup ignored Fannar's anger, much to Fannar's annoyance.

"Yeah, we sort of got 'Gobbered.'" Hiccup explained weakly.

"Well, you know Gobber. He means well, and he doesn't always do well. So what are you going to do about him?" Stoick asked Hiccup while begging with his eyes to let him hold Balder and Bergljot.

Hiccup nodded to Fannar to allow Stoick to hold the kids, and Fannar reluctantly allowed Stoick to keep the grandkids.

"I'm going to clean up his messes and re-do his work." Hiccup explained as he tried to hold his pain in from his prosthetic leg as he stood up too long.

"Look; Gobber's like family-" Stoick started but was interrupted rudely by Hiccup.

"I know! He raised me when you were too busy being the chief of Berk. "That's why I can't say anything to him."

"No, son, that's why you have to. It's not fair to you, and it's not fair to Gobber." Stoick explained to Hiccup.

"Why do I have to say something to him?! You didn't! You just passed him off to me!" Hiccup shouted with frustration and hurt.

Stoick sighed. "That's what the chief does; he delegates. Look, I gave you this Academy because it's the best thing for Berk. Now you have to do what's best for the Academy. And I'm sorry, son, but what's best is very rarely what's easy."

"That's not how it works. You don't just pass people on. Who makes you mad? That's not how a real royal performs." Fannar muttered to himself as he followed his mate and father-in-law. "You still haven't named Hiccup your heir yet.."

The family of five (two of which are in the pram) leaves for the arena. Stoick stops and points to Snotlout hanging on the wall, snoring. "What about him?"

"He's going for a record." Hiccup said with delight. Hiccup, however, stopped as he remembered Fannar's remark. "Dad. When will you announce to Berk that you're naming me heir?"

"It won't be long," Stoick replied. "But, when it's time for our official portrait to stand painted, I'd like you and Balder to be part of it."

"What about Fannar and Bergljot?" Hiccup asked with confusion.

"We can have two portraits standing painted. I can have one with you and me. The other will have The King Of Dragons and his heir." Stoick said nervously.

"No, I want the whole family in one portrait." Hiccup argued.

Stoick sighed but with agitation. "We'll talk about it at a later date."

Riders of Berk

After arguing with his father, Hiccup, Fannar, and the twins, Bergljot is on her father's head, making a gummy smile at the Vikings who are out on patrol, while Balder is asleep on his swing by Hiccup's bosom as they approach the blacksmith's shop.

"Hey, you never know, Kærasti. Maybe Gobber finally looked at my plans and is making the saddles better. Or not."

Hiccup opens the door, and Gobber aims a crossbow at him which causes Fannar to stand in front of Hiccup and stand up on his two back legs, ready to fire.

"Gobber? Don't shoot!" Hiccup shouted with fear as he noticed, Fannar standing protectively before him.

"I would never shoot you, Hiccup," Gobber said apologetically. "I thought you were someone else for a moment."

"Who?" Hiccup asked.

"Mildew, he's still blathering on about you being a traitor as you mated to Fannar," Gobber explained.

"There's more, isn't there?" Questioned Hiccup.

Gobber sighed in defeat. "He's petitioned Stoick that the portrait should be with Snotlout."

"Dad didn't want to talk about it earlier." Hiccup wondered out loud.

"That bloody old codger." Growled Fannar with anger. "I should've killed him after he nearly sent us off the Island. Only because he didn't understand our instincts."

Hiccup just sighed with sadness and unconsciously touched his mating mark. You can't change anyone's mind.

Gobber, seeing his surrogate son's sadness, gave Fannar silent permission to hug Hiccup, to which Fannar immediately said yes. "Hiccup, you WILL prove that you deserve to be chief. I believe in you." Hiccup and Gobber then split up from their hug.

"Now then, you came for something else," Gobber said with a small smile.

"Oh, it was about the saddles." Hiccup said with a small but watery smile. "But, we can forget about that subject."

Gobber just ignored the last comment and showed Hiccup the new saddles. "About the weapons, maybe the catapults were a bit much for some dragons yesterday. So I've gone a different way. I've gotten rid of the two big ones. And replaced them with six little ones!"

Hiccup could only smile weakly, which Gobber knew Hiccup was upset with something else.

"You're upset with something else. Come out with it." Gobber said with a stern look and tone.

"Gobber, you know I love you, but the saddle project… I think your talent lies elsewhere, God; I hate this." Hiccup said as he moved his head down.

Gobber smiles kindly and gently lifts Hiccup's face. "I kinda figured I messed up yesterday and even more today. As Vikings, we battle foes, and we die doing so. But we also accept that even if we have faults, and I don't mind being out of the job."

"B…But." Hiccup stuttered.

"Hiccup, it's okay," Gobber said with silent tears down his face and gently escorted Hiccup and the rest of his family out of the workshop.

Hiccup looks at his second father's workshop with sadness.

"I don't know what could be worse than that."

Suddenly, Flames shoot out in the village, and people run away yelling. "Okay, it looks like I'm about to find out."

Snotlout ran up to Hiccup, out of breath and with fear in his eyes. "I never... thought... I'd say, "But Hiccup, HELP!"

"Hop on, my little mate, and I can get us there faster," Fannar said quickly. Bergljot jumped off and waited impatiently for her mother to get on her father's back. As soon as Hiccup was comfy, Bergljot jumped back on her father's back but against her mother's chest.

As the family arrived, they saw chaos as Hookfang thrashed around and behaved erratically, spewing fire everywhere. He shakes his head a lot and rubs his face.

"Snotlout, what caused Hookfang to go crazy like this?" Hiccup asked from Fannar's back.

"I don't know what happened! I was rubbing his head! He usually loves that! But this time, he went crazy. My dragon hates me!" Snotlout answered.

"They do say a pet starts to take on the characteristics of its owner. I think that's what's happening here." Fishlegs said suddenly without caring about the looks he was getting.

Snotlout just punched Fishlegs' guts for that comment.

"When was the last time he ate?" Hiccup asked as he jumped off Fannar's back with Balder still in his swing.

Before Snotlout could answer, Hookfang shouted.

"It hurts. It fucking hurts."

"What hurts?!" Fannar cried with worry.

"It just hurts!"

Hiccup looks at Hookfang with concern and goes to the closest Viking.

"Tell Gobber I need his strength to help me." Hiccup explained. "I think I know what it may be, but I need Gobber's help."

The Viking looked at Hiccup and scoffed. "I'm not listening to the traitor or doing what you say."

The other dragons growled at the unnamed Viking and growled at him while preparing to throw fire at him.

"Better follow the queen!" The dragons roared at the Viking, and putting the icing on the cake, Fannar stood up on his hindlegs, ready to jump on top of the Viking's head. The unnamed Viking cowardly ran towards the blacksmith.

Riders of Berk,

The cowardly Viking finally arrived at the blacksmith and forced himself inside.

"Gobber! We need you." The cowardly Viking said.

"No, you don't. Nobody needs me. Nobody needs any of us." Gobber said with tears down his face.

"I know there is one person who needs you." The cowardly Viking said.

"It's the traitor." The cowardly Viking said. "Him and his monsters."

"Why would Hiccup want me?" Gobber asked with confusion.

"There's a dragon in the plaza that's out of control. And he can't calm him down without you." The cowardly Viking said.

Riders of Berk,

The Dragon Riders, are gathered behind something, watching Hookfang.

"Hiccup when you said Hookfang, something hurts. What is it?" Fishlegs asked.

"Look at how Hookfang is sprouting fire and then rubs his face on the ground. It looks like a toothache. But I need help to confirm it with the help of Gobber and Fannar."

"You have an idea, don't you?" Fannar questioned Hiccup.

"Yes. I need your help to pin Hookfang to the ground while I calm Hookfang down with my singing while Gobber tries to get the tooth out."

"Someone summoned me?" Gobber asked.

"Yes. Gobber, I need your help. I think Hookfang has a toothache, but Fannar and I can't get close to him, not without getting burnt."

Gobber nodded. "Okay, Hiccup, tell me when."

"Fannar now!" Hiccup shouted.

Fannar pinned Hookfang to the ground, and as Hookfang was about to set himself on fire, Hiccup started to sing a song that, for once, wasn't his children's lullaby.

"Þið finnið leið

Fetið sannleikans með

Æskulög þín

Eini harmur minn er

Hríð og uppgerð

Brotin efndi ég til

Síðar munt sjá

Und frelsaðu þér

Von móður

Síðar munt sjá hana

Frelsa munt þér

Fylg minni leið

Ei til sannleikans beð

Æskuljóð þín

Eini harmur minn er."

Gobber then yanked a tooth out (gently) with his hammer and chisel.

"Here's the cause of the dragon's misery," Gobber announced as he held up a rotting tooth. Gobber then looked towards Hookfang and smiled gently. "You're okay now."

As Gobber was leaving the plaza, he stood stopped by Hiccup.

"Gobber, I think you have a place in the village, but this time it's permanent."

The following morning dragons are lining up outside the Blacksmith Shop, and Gobber stands seen filing teeth from a Zippleback and singing his favorite song.

'I've got my ax, and I've got my mace, and I love my wife with the ugly face! I'm a Viking through and through.'

When the world around you changes, the good men find a way to change. And Gobber is one of those good men and one of the best.
