Chapter 6: Beautiful memories
Somewhere on the road from Paris to Berlin, June 2018
With tired eyes Juliette watched the passing landscape. She was sitting in the passenger seat of the small van, one of her colleagues was driving. In the seats behind her, Leslie was talking animatedly with another colleague. Juliette yawned a little and leaned her head against the window. She hadn't slept last night but had gotten into the van straight from her date with Carlisle. Carlisle. Just the thought of him made her heart beat a little faster and she had to smile dreamily. Last night had been wonderful. After she had decided not to go to bed at all and instead extend the date, they had walked along the Seine.
Flashback
In pleasant silence, the two walked along the bank holding hands. In the distance, they could hear a band playing. Carlisle's cold hand had by now made Juliette's hand feel frozen as well, but she didn't care at that moment. This tingling feeling in her body was much more interesting.
"Tell me about your children," smiling, she looked up at him.
Carlisle returned the smile, "Mm. Where do I even start? Edward may have been the first one I adopted, but he's the youngest. He loves music and plays the piano. Sometimes he's a little shy, but once you get to know him, you can't help but love him. Rosalie and Alice both love fashion. Their favorite hobby is to go shopping."
He paused for a moment to laugh. Juliette grinned as well.
"Alice can be a little crazy sometimes, but that's what makes her so endearing."
"Crazy in what way?"
"She has weird ideas sometimes, likes to have fun parties, and generally turns our lives upside down, but that way it never gets boring."
Juliette nodded and couldn't help but shiver slightly. Carlisle immediately stopped and turned to her.
"Are you cold?" he eyed her worriedly.
She was still wearing only her thin summer dress and even though the night was very warm, it eventually became quite chilly. Inwardly he cursed himself for not wearing a jacket himself.
"Slightly," she looked to the side and then back at him.
"I should take you back to the hotel."
"No... No, I don't want to yet. I told you we could spend some more time."
"I don't want our date to be over yet either," tenderly he gripped her chin, "But I don't want you to get sick because of me either."
Again, she shivered. This time, however, because of his cold hand on her chin and his intense gaze. His eyes really cast an intense spell on her. After two seconds, she forced herself to look to the side.
All of a sudden, a smirk crept onto her lips. She grabbed his hands and took a step back and approached him again.
"What are you doing?" he asked, amused and curious at the same time.
"It's a great night, we have good music and I'm on a date with an incredibly attractive man right now. This calls for dancing."
Smiling, she let go of one hand again, spun around, and then came closer to him again.
"Besides, dancing will warm me up."
Carlisle smiled enthusiastically again and grabbed her second hand before jerking her closer. Immediately a surprised gasp and giggle escaped her. Their gazes caught again and the two moved to the music. Slowly they came closer and closer to each other. The tip of his nose touched hers and her eyes fell closed. Tenderly, he rubbed his nose tip against hers. Most of all, Carlisle wanted to kiss her, yet he didn't want to take her by surprise either. After all, it was still their first date.
Suddenly, his cell phone vibrated in his pocket. He faltered in his movement. Juliette opened her eyes and looked at him questioningly. The intimate mood was destroyed.
"Sorry," he pulled out his phone and looked at the screen, "This is Alice. One moment."
Juliette nodded and let go of his hands. Politely, she turned away so as not to eavesdrop on his conversation. A moment later, he touched her shoulder.
"She just wanted to know if everything was okay. It's so late and I'm not back."
"Sweet of her to worry."
Carlisle nodded, even if it wasn't quite the truth, because Alice had of course seen in a vision that the two of them were still on their date. Just as she had seen that they needed jackets.
"Anyway, she's sending Emmett over now with two jackets for us."
"Emmett?"
"My second son..." with that, Carlisle started talking about his other children as well.
Flashback End
Sighing softly, Juliette closed her eyes. It hadn't taken long for Emmett to show up with two jackets and a blanket. The memory of the young guy made her smile. Emmett seemed like a fun kid, maybe a little over the top. When the two were alone again, they sat down on a bench. Carlisle was even generous enough to let her have both jackets and the blanket. She had told him several times that he didn't have to do that, but again and again he had refused to take a jacket himself. He said that he was always cold anyway and therefore would not freeze easily.
Flashback
The two talked until the early hours of the morning. At one point Juliette leaned against him and he had his arm around her shoulders. They watched as the sky over Paris changed its colors to beautiful pastel tones.
Shortly after, he took her to her hotel and the two said goodbye to each other with heavy hearts.
"Thank you very much for this wonderful night. I was just allowed to spend a wonderful date with a beautiful woman. And that in Paris. I will never forget that", Carlisle's hand stroked her cheek tenderly, "Please contact me once you arrived in Berlin. I want to be sure that you got home safely."
His gaze swept over her face, taking in every little detail.
"I promise."
She gave him a tight hug and gently pressed a kiss on his cheek. Carlisle held her even closer for a moment, before letting go of her with a heavy unalive heart. They exchanged one last longing look before she headed into the hotel.
Flashback End
She missed him already but also felt how much her body needed the missed sleep. She still saw his face in her mind as she slowly drifted off into a much-needed nap.

Paris, June 2018
Carlisle laid on the bed in his hotel room and starred at the ceiling. He missed her already. It had been one of the best nights in his life. Actually, it had been the best so far – when he thought about it.
He had asked Alice to keep looking out for the van. He just wanted Julie to be safe. A slight sigh escaped his lips as he remembered how she laid in his arm.
Suddenly, there was a knock on his door. He stood up, opened the door and looked surprised as all of his children stood there waiting for him.
"May we come in? Thanks", Alice didn't wait until he said something but went right into his room.
The others followed. He closed the door and sat on the edge of his bed. His children all found a place opposite from him so that they faced him.
"We wanted to ask how your date went. Although, Edward probably already knows all of it. And Emmett came back last night telling us that you two looked wonderful together."
Alice looked very excited. Rosalie tried not to look to curious. She was still skeptical about a human being so close to Carlisle but she really saw a father-figure in him and all she wanted was him to be happy. Emmet beamed and Jasper looked amused feeling all the excitement in the room. Edward simply smiled knowingly.
"It was …", Carlisle ran his hand through his hair, "Absolutely wonderful. Like a dream."
In that moment, Carlisle didn't feel like the self-confident doctor and father anymore but more like a boy telling his parents how the date was. It was a strange change of perspective.
"She is kind, good-hearted, beautiful, intelligent. So easy to talk to. I could listen to her for hours."
The younger vampires all exchanged a look.
"We had an idea, dad. We thought about ending our stay in Paris earlier than planned", Alice explained grinning, "And instead of spending the last vacation days here, we thought we could head to Berlin. What do you think?"
Carlisle's eyes widened in surprise, "Really? That would be okay for you?"
They all looked at each other one more time before looking back at him and nodding.
"When would we leave?" he felt the excitement rush through his body as he realized that he could see Juliette again.
"Well, we thought today."
