Chell's Afterlife 5
Me and my team, which consists of Mel, the Char twins, and Gil are on our way back to Aperture right now, why you might ask? Well that's a very good question, one I can't answer. One minute it's night and I'm in my new room painting the turret king on the wall, not much of a care in the world, the next it's early morning and I'm in a vehicle Mel's driving knowing that all I need to do is go back to Aperture and free all the other test subjects. Subjects, I might add, I've explicitly been told aren't ALIVE anymore. Why can't I remember what happened last night? And why did I agree to lead this mission? I wish I could remember last night.
But I guess I kind of can't FORCE myself to remember things, whenever I try it ends up hurting my head a lot, so for now I'm just going to accept what I can't control…
fuuuck…
But yeah, I'm in a vehicle with Mel, who's driving us there and will act as our brute force. The twins, who specialize in stealth, believe it or not, or at least Charlie does, Charlotte specializes in weapons and offence, but those two work together regardless. There's Gil, who's probably the greatest computer hacker that ever was. And finally there's me, I actually fill several roles; first off I'm the team leader, meaning I lead the team, secondly, I'm the one that'll solve any test chamber we may come across, since I'm the best at figuring out solutions to problems, finally, I have the Portal gun. I didn't bring my turret since it isn't actually programmed to attack anything specific, it mostly just shoots anything that moves, which won't help at Aperture. The vehicle we're in is, I'm told, some sort of armoured Combine car thing, it seats like 6, so we're good size wise. So yeah, this is my situation.
"Shell, whut's ar ETA?" Mel asks me. I'd answer if I knew wha meant,
Exact Tracking Availability? I dunno.
"Um, what?" seriously, does it mean Electric Turkey Assembly or something? Mel sighs.
"Um asking yu how long uhtill we get ta Apachure."
"Oh, well why didn't you say so?" I can feel everyone in the vehicle glaring at me, but it was worth it. I smile as I look out the window and configure our location. I mean figure out.
"Based on the poison of the sun relative the horizon, and taking into account how long it's been since we left. As well as spotting notable landmarks, I'd say we're 8860 feet away from the shed." It's a good thing I can figure stuff like that out, or we'd be screwed. I can feel everyone looking at me again, but this time they're confused. I myself sigh before I talk again.
"That means like, 7 minutes."
I stand staring at the shed, I'm ready to pry it open and everyone is standing behind me. I reach for the door but stop, then I turn around.
"I should probably let everyone know NOW. I'm not going to be talking while we're in Aperture." The twins and Gil look surprised, but Mel doesn't seem phased.
"What? Why? You sure seem like you like to talk," Charlie tells me.
"And talking is good for your vocal chords," Charlotte adds.
"It's just how it is for me, if promises are made, then promises are kept. When I was first captured by Glados when I was 23, and even before that when I was a teenager I vowed to never let Aperture get the best of me. That especially means responding to whatever the machines had in store."
"I hayt ta brake up tha mood, but we need ta get mooven', Shell, whud yu do thee oners?" Mel says, and she's right, so I turn back around to face the shed, and holding out my hand Gil hands me my crowbar that I found here 2 days ago, and I pry the door open, again, I ignore the small shock the shed gives me. I'm going to note again at the lack of an elevator, all there is is a manhole on the concrete floor.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that." I say out loud, "After I got off the elevator there wasn't one anymore." I'm smiling now, in that 'opps, sorry I wrecked your lives' kind of way. But I have a crowbar at least, you know, the thing designed specifically to do 2 things, the first is to open crates, the second is to lift the lid off of a manhole. I walk into the shed.
"So then what do we do now?" Gil asks, and you can hear the 'annoyed' in his voice, he asks that AS I'm walking into the shed to do something. I hate it when people interrupt me to tell me to do what I'm already doing when they interrupted me. I don't answer; I simply lift the manhole and look down.
"As I suspected, this is the shaft of the elevator, and there's a ladder we can all climb down. Also, I'm going to start being silent as soon as we enter, so it'd be smart to ask any question you have now." Gil raises his hand, and I sigh in my head. I point at him.
"What type of dangers will there be?" I smirk at his question.
"Many, there's turrets, you already met one, there's also deadly neurotoxins, that's a greenish type gas if you didn't know. There's also; reddish acid in some chambers, rocket turrets, falling huge drops, deadly lasers, stuff falling from above, high energy pellets, crushers, incinerators, mobility gels, broken glass, and the biggest threat of all, Glados, The Genetic Lifeform and Disc Operating System, she controls the whole damned joint. Glados is a snarky manipulative AI hell-bent on my personal destruction, but don't think that won't stop her from killing any of you. So, stay focused, remain vigilant, and never, NEVER, believe that she has cake." I stare down each one of my teammates; it's going to be another rough ride.
"I-i-is that all?" Gil squeaks out, I look down the manhole again.
"Any more questions?" I ask my team, they all look at each other.
Charlotte shines a bloodthirsty smile, "Yeah, when do we begin?" I fashion Ash onto my hand.
"I thought you'd never ask."
The order of going down the ladder is as followed: Me, then Gil, Charlie, Charlotte, and Mel. It's still about 15, maybe 20 floors until Glados's chamber, and it seems the turret auditorium's been closed off, I guess that was set up just for me, apparently she DOES care, well, isn't that sweet? Whatever, as we continue down the ladder, about 30 seconds later Charlotte speaks up.
"Um, did anyone see where Mel went?" she says, wait, what was that? "Cause she isn't on the ladder anymore. Do you think sh-" Charlotte's cut off by a mechanical sound, then…nothing. It's a bit spooky.
Gil starts freaking out, "D-do you th-th-think it mi-might be GL-G
l-GLaDOS?!" Charlie stomps his foot a bit to get Gil's attention.
"Get a hold of yourself! Do you think we'll survive if you can't keep your cool?! I just lost my sister and I'm sure I'm next, but I have to keep my head up and focus on the main picture." Wow Charlie, you sure know how to take charge, I think you would have made a better team leader then me, hell, it hasn't even been a minute and the bitch is already splitting up my forces.
Speaking of which, she detached the part of the ladder I was holding onto, so I'm falling now. Fucking great. I look down and note that I have about 10 seconds before I hit the floor of her chamber. Well I can't say I'm surprised, she knows I won't die since I'm still wearing the long fall boots, same outfit too, minus the jacket, good thing I showered. 8 seconds. I guess it's as good of time as any to figure out a battle plan, well, it's been two days, so I'm sure things have been kept SOMEWHAT the same. Not that the scenery is any giveaway. I see she's cleaned the place up since I left, apparently dangerous noisy lunatics have to do SOMETHING with their time. 3 seconds. Well, here goes nothing.
CCLLAASSHH!
I start to black out as she stares down at me.
"You're back? Well, despite my efforts I can't seem to get rid of you. Like a brain. Trying to get rid of a tumour."
