Like I promised the wait for chapter fifteen isn't too long. So we left off with Adelia and plot plot plot plot plot! Enjoy! Rainbows!
[1st Person POV; Adelia]
It wasn't very long until Garret woke up and like WiS had said, he felt perfect and was in no pain. Telling him where the other Guardians were I also told him he could find his staff in the storage closet next to the Heart Room. He told me "Thank you" and then sat silently for a moment.
"Is everything alright Garret?" I asked him after a few minutes.
"Yeah, it's just that I've been wondering about something."
"What's that?"
"You control light like I do. Then why didn't Kuroi bother going after you? He is trying to eliminate all light possible and your powers are a very clear threat to him and his minions. I mean, I'm glad he hasn't because I'd rather that I take the hits than him going after my friends but…I don't get it?" He told me, his confusion clearly spread on his face.
Pausing I thought about what he'd just stated before answering, "Well, I do have the light powers but, imagination isn't always bright and good I guess. Sometimes it can be a very dark and evil thing leading to even worse outcomes when people act on it. I think he hasn't come for me because I'm not purely light, like you."
"Well I guess his eyes must be gone too."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because you've got a light in you that's impossible to not see." Garret told me with a warm smile.
Before he could see me blush a loud alarm began to sound and the sunlight that was coming into the room through the many many windows was quickly covered in a dark shadow. Worried I got to my feet only to trip on the chair I had just been sitting in. Thankfully I landed on something soft, which I found out to be Garret a second later. Then I was REALLY glad that it was dark so he couldn't see how red my face had probably gotten.
"Are you alright?" He asked from the shadows.
"Yes, but this can't be Pitch attacking. He joined our side."
"It's Kuroi. WiS isn't here anymore and neither is her shield around the Cloud Palace. We have to find the others and my staff."
"Right. I'll lead the way." I said as I found my own staff and lit the crystal at it's top, giving us some light. Then Garret and I left the blackened sun room and headed for the Heart Room.
[3rd Person POV]
Adelia and Garret ran through the darkened hallways of the Cloud Palace, hearing the sounds of battle increase as they neared the Heart Room. It was when they reached the closet with his staff inside that bad went to worse and glowing purple eyes appeared in the shadows around them. Backing away The Guardian of Summer stood back-to-back with the Guardian of Imagination and braced himself for a fight. It was as the new enemies charged however, that he heard his companion cry out and felt her presence disappear.
"Adelia?!" He shouted right before being head-butted by the unseen foe.
[1st Person POV; Adelia]
It was maybe the freakiest thing ever; Garret and I stuck in a blacked-out Cloud Palace and back-to-back facing who knows how many enemies and with only a small glimmer of light coming from the top of my staff. Then, it somehow got worse. In the darkness I felt myself pulled away from my companion and heard him call out my name. Then all sound disappeared and I was alone in the shadows.
Scared I made the crystal in the top of my staff glow abit brighter and looked about. There was obviously darkness but as I looked to my left I saw a small light, similar to the kind that Garret's staff gives off. Cautiously I made my way over to it and felt hope kindle in me as I saw a figure become clear. Now I felt my fear go away and rushed forward, ready to be by my friends side again. However, it was as I laid my hand on their should that my fear returned and multiplied.
Right when I touched them they dispersed into the shadows surrounding me. I backed away instantly and held my staff at the ready.
"Well, it looks like I've found the oddball of the group." A smooth yet venomous voice cooed in the dark. "Adelia, is it? Guardian of Imagination, although I'd say that's a laugh considering you don't even know how you came to be that."
"That doesn't matter. Now what have you done with my friends? Where's Garret?" I shouted at the voice, hiding my fear.
"You call him your friend and yet you can't remember him. That's such a shame since you caused him to become a Guardian as well."
Confused I paused and then asked, "What do you mean? I did nothing to him."
"Not in this life, perhaps. But in your mortal one you did. Tell me o' Guardian of Imagination," The voice said as I heard a quiet sparkling noise. Looking forward I saw one of the tooth containers from the Tooth Palace as he asked, "Would you like to know who you were to him?"
I felt my breath catch as I heard those words and saw the gold cylinder. There was a part of me that wanted so badly to know but could I trust this voice? What did they know about my past that I didn't?
Slowly I reached out a shaky hand, expecting an attack at any second, and took the cylinder. The smooth metal was cool and quiet but familiar voices rang out from it. Taking a deep breath I stared down at the diamond pattern that covered the teeth and the memories and watched as they slowly disappeared and everything faded into a bright light.
[1st Person POV; Adelia-Past]
Blinking the light out of my eyes, I looked about myself. I was in a small town surrounded by trees with bright sunlight coming through the branches. People ran about, laughing, talking, and going about with their daily lives. Then, I saw a group of children huddled around one who was in the center. Walking closer I soon found that that one was myself but, I didn't look the same; My hair was brown and my eyes were green.
Staring on I listened as I told the children a story of a prince, princess and dragon. They were all intent on the tale, every one of them leaning in and gasping when there was a suspenseful part. It was as I finished with an overly cliché happy ending that someone unexpected showed up.
It was Garret but his hair was black instead of blond and his eyes were gold instead of green. He came up to me with a smile on his face and I rushed up to greet him, equally happy. Before I, myself, could blink I saw both of us embrace and kiss each other, like it was a normal thing.
"How are you today? Still filling kids heads with fairytales I see." He said with a smirk.
"Well, they're children. They need to have some kind of imagination otherwise the world will seem bleak and hopeless." The past me responded.
"That's a blatant way of putting things. But I can't argue. The children love it and so do all the parents because they can focus on their work. So are you excited?"
"About getting married? Yes, although abit nervous. Are you sure we aren't taking things too quickly?"
"Because getting married after knowing each other and loving each other, for five years, is too quick. I'm sure we're fine as long as that jerk Garrison stays away from you and I for the rest of today. Then everything will go smoothly tomorrow and we'll be together, move into that house we've been saving for and what was it? Happily ever after?"
"Yeah that's it. Although your storytelling wasn't too convincing."
"That's why I leave it up to you. I'll be back later to check in. Just remember though that you can't tell Garrison its tomorrow; if he heard I'm sure he'd try and do something to interfere with it."
"Alright, I will keep it quiet until tomorrow. Have a good day." I told him as he gave me one last kiss and walked off.
Little did the past me know that Garrison had been coming from between two houses and had heard everything. Instead of walking out into the town center he turned back and went the other way. Curious and worried I followed him and soon found myself tailing him into a clearing in the forest. He had been talking angrily to himself the whole time and then finally stopped and muttered one word to himself; "Die."
It was then that things went bright again and faded back out to another scene, a night-time one near Garret's house. All the lights were out and I could only presume that everyone inside was asleep. But the problem wasn't inside, it was outside.
There was a small group gathered of Garrison and his friends. Then stuck with them and held back by two was the past me, beaten and crying, probably pleading with them. But not matter what I'd been trying to convince them not to do, the leader just scoffed at me and lit a Molotov. Then he threw it at the house and I could only watch as it erupted in flames.
It wasn't long before screams came from the flame engulfed building and a tall figure followed by two other much shorter figures. Just as part of the roof caved in that the three figures screamed out one name in unison. That name was Garret and I could only guess that this was the night that he died. I couldn't make myself watch and turned my attention back to the group who were watching. However, Garrison quickly turned back to me and crouched down while taking out his revolver.
"So, tell me Amelia, how did you imagine this little affair would go? You and that jerk, who by the way stole you from me, would live happily ever after like your stupid fairy tales. Is that how you thought this would all go over and that I would just let you two go? Well, how about now that your love is a dead burning corpse?" He asked while the past me looked away away and at the ground.
"Well, it doesn't matter anymore. You'll know where you and your 'imagination' got you soon enough."
With that he stood up and put the muzzle of the gun to the crown of my past self's head. It was just as he was pulling the trigger that the flashback ended and I soon found myself in the darkness again. And I was alone with the cylinder that held my memories.
"Now you know the truth and how your carelessness caused his death. So tell me, how much of a friend is he to you? Not much with all considered." The voice commented.
"Shut it. He still is important to me." I shouted.
"Oh yes I'm sure; Important enough to die for I'd bet. I wonder how he'd feel about you if he found out that you lead to his home, death and his family going through such pain. Let's go tell him and find out."
"NO!" I shouted as I launched a violet ray at where the voice came from.
Chuckling the voice asked, "Why? Are you afraid that he'll despise you and blame you for what you caused? If you are you better think of someway to convince me not to tell him. As a suggestion, maybe it'd be better for everyone if you just left. If you do, then I'll leave as well. It's up to you."
As he finished saying that the darkness receded and I found myself back in the hallway of the Cloud Palace. I turned around and saw Garret there, confusedly looking at the retreating shadows. Sadly I spun on my heel and fled away from him, not wanting him to find out all that I had caused, or for him to feel the pain of past memories brought up again. It was as I turned the corner that I heard him call after me and begin running. He was thankfully too far behind.
Reaching the cloud formed landing platform and called for a rainbow to come get me. As soon as it appeared I began to run, only turning back once as I heard him call for me again. I was foolish in doing so as I saw his confusion and worry, the same as it was when we were mortals. Facing back towards the path in front of me I continued running, only letting a single tear escape. At least now he won't be hurt because of me.
Say whhhhhhaaaatttttt?! Chapter fifteen everyone! Please leave reviews since I was iffy on how this particular part would come out. Thanks!
