"Hurry up ya gumby!" Bunny yelled. He and the other guardians were all crowded around the TV at the Pole. They were all excited to watch a movie that was apparently about them; Rise of the Guardians.
"I'm here, I'm here," Jack said, rushing into the room. She had a giant bowl of popcorn in her arms. "Everyone ready for this?"
The others nodded. Jack let out a large sigh and sat down next to Tooth. Her hopes were not very high. The story was supposed to be about Jack Frost, which meant that her character would be male. As always.
North pressed play and they all went silent. They heard a voice say "Darkness. That's the first thing I remember. It was dark, and it was cold. And I was scared. But then, then I saw the moon. It was so big, and it was so bright. It seemed to chase the darkness away."
They watched as a boy's body rose out of a pond. The pond looked very similar to the actual pond in Burgess. Jack started breathing hard, which did not go unnoticed by her fellow Guardians. She remembered this well. Of course, what she remembered was long white hair in her eyes, her clothes soaking wet.
'Shoot. Am I really that pale?' she thought. She glanced at her hands. No, she was paler. Crap.
"Jack? Are you okay?" Tooth asked. She placed her hand on Jack's shoulder. Automatically, Jack flinched away. Strange. She hadn't done that in a long while. But having memories of three hundred years ago were pounding in, hard.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine." She took a long look at the boy that was supposed to be her. Well, he was cute at least. That was something. She would almost call him hot, except there is the slight matter that calling a winter spirit 'hot' is just wrong.
"Why I was there and what I was meant to do, that I didn't know. And part of me wonders if I ever will," the voice continued. They watched young Jack dance around as he found his staff and started playing around with his snow powers.
"Were you really like that kid?" Bunny asked. The Jack on the screen was so similar, yet so different from the Jack sitting beside him, and not only by the gender. The Jack on screen was happy and playful, which was very Jack-like. But he also seemed carefree, something the Jackie always tried to pretend she was, but the others could see the dark look that never seemed to truly leave her eyes.
Jackie shrugged and continued to watch. She winced as Jack crashed into a tree. "Ugh, was I really that bad at flying?" she groaned. Bunny snickered.
Then they saw Jack land in Burgess. Sorrow was clear on their faces as they saw Jack walk through the village, talking to people. No one could see him, but the boy didn't seem to realize that until a child ran right through him. He looked so panicked and afraid.
"My name is Jack Frost. How do I know that? The moon told me so. That's all he ever told me. And that was a long, long time ago." The others snuck glances at the winter spirit. She wouldn't meet their eyes.
"Well, he's cute at least. But still, he's a dude," she complained.
The scene changed into a more familiar one. It was the North Pole. Words on the screen appeared. 300 years later. It zoomed into North working on the toys.
They all laughed when he made the yeti repaint all of the toys, and gasped when Pitch appeared. Jack snickered a bit. The Pitch on the screen was so goofy looking, unlike the terrifying Boogeyman that she had actually faced.
North pressed the red button to summon the other Guardians. "That looks just like you, North," Tooth said.
"Sounds like you too. Better than I can say," Jack muttered.
In fact, all of the other Guardians looked like they do in real life. Jack voiced her distaste about being the only one that they got wrong.
She glared at Bunny when the Bunny in the movie started to complain about having Jack as the new Guardian. "Hey, I love kids!" she protested.
"Yeah, well, I didn't know that then," he said weakly. She gave him a look then fell silent as she saw her male version appear on screen again. He was pranking people. Obviously. They laughed as she knocked over a guy and jumped on top of cars.
Jamie looked very similar, but he was a bit taller in the movie. Same with Sophie. Tooth gave Jack one of the motherly looks of disapproval when she saw Jack take Jamie's sled for a ride with the boy still on it. She smirked back.
Then Jamie started talking about Tooth, which ruined Jack's moment with the kids. She shot Jackie a guilty look. "I'm sorry, Jack."
She shrugged it off. "Hey, no big deal. It's not your fault."
When Jack watched Jamie through the window, she turned her head away. She actually got up to "go to the bathroom" when she flew up to talk to the moon. A silent tear slid down Tooth's face as she heard Jack speak.
"There's something I'm doing wrong. Can you just tell me what it is? Because I have tried everything, and no one ever sees me." He started to get upset when there was no answer. "You put me here. The least you can do, is tell me…tell me why."
It was as if a dagger had been driven through each of the Guardian's hearts. They had just seen themselves grumble about having Jack being chosen as the new Guardian. Meanwhile, poor Jackie was all alone, begging Manny to give her (or rather him) a sign of why she (he) was even alive. It was heart-breaking. North rubbed his face with his hands. Bunny silently cursed.
Each of them growled when they saw Pitch corrupt Cupcake's dream. North slammed his fist on the table. How dare he turn the little girl's peaceful dream into a terrifying one!
Next was Bunny talking to Jack. Partway through their conversation, the real Jack came back. Everyone laughed at Jack's reaction as he got thrown into the sack and tossed through the portal. Seeing Jack speaking to the other Guardians was odd. Sure, it had really happened, but so much had changed since then. Bunny was so hostile, North was pushy and Tooth cared only about Jack's teeth. Sandy was more or less the same, but Jack showed next to no kindness at all to the Sandman.
"But none of them believe in you, do they? You see, you're invisible mate. It's like you don't even exist," Bunny on screen said. The real Bunny froze. Had he really said that to Jack? Jackie bit her lip. That comment had hurt. She didn't want to look at Bunny, for fear that he would see the pain in her eyes.
North winced when he saw himself scare poor Jack while talking to the boy in the Pole about why he was chosen. Bunny on the other hand gave him a pat on the back of approval. In return, Jack and Sandy laughed (though Sandy laughed silently) when Bunny was afraid to go on the sleigh.
Tooth had to bite her tongue to keep herself from crying out at seeing her fairies getting eaten by the nightmares. They watched as the Guardians confronted Pitch. Bunny wanted to knock him into next tomorrow, tv screen Pitch of not, when he saw him mock and threaten Jack.
They saw all of them collecting the teeth. Smiles were on their faces. Everyone was on the floor laughing when Sandy put all of them to sleep, though everyone but Sandy and Jack were blushing.
Seeing Jack and Sandy face Pitch kept the Guardians almost off their seats. They knew what was about to happen. Jackie was tense, and North pulled her into him like a father would do for a child.
There it was. They saw everyone fighting off the nightmares, saw Jack knocked down. He panicked and tried to race to Sandy only to watch Sandy die. Sandy winced, remembering the pain of being shot by the arrow. Jackie buried her face into North's arm, unable to watch Sandy being shot again.
Sandy was sad at seeing his family mourn him. He shot Bunny a grateful look when he saw that Bunny tried to lift everyone's spirits by attempting to saving Easter.
He was laughing at all of the Guardians when he saw their reactions to seeing Sophie. Bunny nudged Jack when he saw the two of them on screen actually get along. That was one moment that he was proud of. When he finally made an effort to get along with the kid.
Then it was the moment when Jack took Sophie back to her house. 'Oh no.' Everyone except for Sandy knew what was about to happen. This was Jack's confrontation with Pitch.
"It's the one thing I always know. People's greatest fears. Yours is that no one will ever believe in you."
"…you're afraid of what the Guardians would think. You're afraid of disappointing them. Well let me ease your mind about one thing; they'll never accept you. Not really."
"You're Jack Frost! You make a mess where ever you go."
Bunny felt his ears droop as he heard what Pitch said to Jack. North wanted to punch someone. Tooth had tears streaming down her face and Sandy could only stare in shock.
"Jack…I…" Bunny tried to say. She held up her hand. She didn't want anyone to say anything. In fact, she wanted to go hide. Maybe she would have, had Tooth not wrapped her arms around her in a big hug. Tooth felt horrible. That confrontation must have almost broken poor Jack, and what did they do when she found them?
They shunned her. That was almost more painful than seeing Jack being mocked by Pitch. Sandy shot the other Guardians disapproving looks. He felt bad for Bunny. Being walked through wasn't a pleasant experience. But still, saying such terrible things to Jack was wrong.
Bunny hung his head in shame. What had he been thinking, saying such awful things about the kid? Jack had just been mentally tortured by Pitch. He should have been asking if she was okay! It didn't show it in the movie, but when this had actually happened, Jack had blood running down her head. She had been clutching her wrist. And all he had done was yell at her.
North and Tooth gave each other pained expressions. Bunny wasn't the only one that had treated Jack horribly. They had been terrible to her as well.
Jack wanted to leave now. She knew that she was about to go to the Pole and she didn't want to see the other's reactions to that.
It was a lot more tame in the movie than it had been on screen. Probably because this movie was for kids and the fight had been pretty violent.
The battle was expected. Everyone had known it was coming, even Sandy. What Jack hadn't been expecting was the tears that were in every single person's eyes. Tooth was outright crying, as was Sandy. Bunny and North were trying to hold back, but failing. Jack was very glad that the movie was so toned down. If this was their reactions to the movie fight…well, the real fight was so much worse.
'Shoot, they're actually showing these?' Jack thought in horror. Her memories. The movie was actually showing her memories.
Again, the movie toned the truth down. Sure, they still showed her death (which caused the other Guardians to pale until they were almost as white as her) but they didn't show her being beaten or anything like that.
When the boy snapped out of it and fixed his staff, the Guardians cheered. They were all smiling as they saw Jamie realize the truth and see Jack for the first time.
Jack laughed until she was on the ground when she saw the tiny Bunny again. Bunny playfully punched her in the shoulder.
As every other fight scene in the movie, the final fight scene was sugar coated. No blood. Pitch was easily beaten. When Pitch tried to swing his scythe and hit Jack, Sandy stopped him. That caused Sandy to feel slightly ashamed. He should have stopped it in real life.
They saw a child walk through Pitch. Jackie winced. She knew that feeling all too well.
Everyone let out an "aw" when Jack was hugged by Jamie for the first time. A sweet smile was on the girl's face. It almost matched the smile from the boy on the screen.
The Jack on the screen climbed into the sleigh. "My name is Jack Frost. And I'm a Guardian. How do I know that? Because the moon told me so. So when the moon tells you something, believe it!"
End credits.
"Well, that was more accurate than I expected," North admitted.
"It wasn't that accurate," Jack protested.
"You're just mad because they got your gender wrong," Bunny smirked.
"Hey, I'd say that's a pretty reasonable thing to be mad about. Besides, it's not just that. Pitch looks scarier in real life. Every fight scene is majorly toned down…"
"Reminder Jack; this movie was meant for kids," Tooth added.
She shrugged. "I'm just saying. It wasn't very accurate. And naturally they made me a boy again. A cute boy, but a boy all the same." She stood up. "I'm going to my pond. Don't ask me to watch that abomination ever again."
With a huff, she picked up her staff and flew out the window.
The guardians looked at one another. Maybe what was bothering Jack wasn't that the movie wasn't accurate enough.
Maybe it was that it was a bit too close to the truth.
A/N: Huh. Can't say I'm very happy with this chapter. When I wrote it, I was tired and stressed. Plus I didn't want it to be too long so I think I rushed it a lot. Hope you guys liked it at least.
Give me some ideas people! It would really help me out! Peace out.
