Hey guys! Thanks for continuing on with reading my little story! This is now the second chapter of In Salvation We Seek! This chapter won't have much dialog to it, everything is told from Sakura's point of view and this chapter is all about what kind of person Sakura is, a little bit of character development. But on top os this our mystery man comes in! :0
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto… that's why I'm writing this FanFic
~Sakura's P.O.V.~
Another day had come and gone and it had been a few days since I was able to go back to the green house on top of the school. Two days ago, someone kicked a soccer ball into the nursery's window and due to this, the entire club had been shut down by the school to set up to repair the damage.
Sasuke.
This entire morning had been killer on me, finals week was about to be here and there was no way that I was letting my perfect 4.0 slip though my fingers. I stayed after school to study for an English test I had the next day of the book Of Mice and Men. When I left at five o'clock it was extremely dark outside already, but I didn't hurry home since I knew nobody was going to be there. My father was at his company's Christmas party and I knew that, like very year before, he wouldn't be coming home tonight.
On a cold night like this I forgot to wear a hat, gloves, and even a scarf, all were forgotten in my locker. The winter chill bit deeply into me as I walked out of the school grounds, there wasn't a single soul in sight but I was in too good of a mood to let something like subzero temperatures get me down! After all that studying I was so going to ace this test tomorrow morning.
It was a fairly short walk back home for me, only about fifteen minutes the regular way—up a hill and through a park and into the small business district a couple blocks from my house. If I really wanted to, I could even jet over to 8th street and hop the bus that went right past the mall on the way to my neighborhood. Between walking in and out of crowds of people or waiting for the busses, I normally found it much faster to walk.
When I was younger, my father would take me to a local park called Demons Doorway, which turned out to be a shortcut to my house from the high school I was attending. It would shave off about nine minutes of my bitter walk. This park happened to be at the bottom of a shallow ravine and shrouded by thick trees and rocks. Although it sounded pretty uncanny, it had a solid reputation for being safe.
There is a unique tale told about this park, legend has it that the wide ravine was caused by a giant demon that once roamed freely in this region. While after decades of traveling he grew tired of this world and sat in that very spot for three days causing the break in earth and opening a portal to its homeland, back to the Demon World. After those three days were up he finally opened the door to his world and traveled home, never to return back to our side of the universe.
I remember my dad telling me that story when I was little, every time we'd come here and I could never understand why he liked that tale so much. Truthfully, I thought the entire story was absolutely ridiculous myself. He'd go on and on about it the entire time we'd be there, I learned to just smile and nod whenever he spoke about it.
Walking this route for many years I had never run into a single problem. Well, except for the oddly large show drifts what gathered in this area, loosing a shoe would be the only thing I really had to worry about.
Making my way through the winding concrete path my mind wouldn't stop going back to a few of days ago, back to the day I ran into Sasuke. At first I was surprised that he knew my name but thinking back at it, we had been in the same class for many years so he'd have to know my name, right?
For some reason, this little encounter had my mind wondering; so much so that I had been wracking my brain with it, even began loosing sleep. Hence why I needed that extra long study session today. He was the only thing that has been on my mind lately and it was getting pretty exhausting.
I had even seen him in class the last few days and I didn't even receive as much as a glance from him.
Shaking my head and trying to stay focused on the winding winter path in front of me; I bobbed and weaved my way through the embellished patches of ice that littered the cement path. A sound caught my attention; the small half-dead shrubbery shook softly against the snow-covered ground. A chill ran down my spine. And it wasn't one of the normal winter breezes either. Something around me felt; well, just a little off.
I stopped in my tracks, realizing it was stupid to be scared, it was probably just a snow rabbit, they were common around here this time of year after all. I focused on the still wiggling bush in hopes to find the cause behind the ruckus. I swallowed hard, in the faint chance of the possibility that it could be something else, something dangerous.
It wiggled again.
At that moment, something black flew from the bush and shooting straight up in the air in front of me. I couldn't quite make out what it was but I could tell that its thick black body hung in the air, as if it were flying it was about the size of my fist; a yellow light started emanating off the black object as it made its descentt from the darkening sky.
"Oh jeeze."
I let out a small sigh, it was only a bug—a freakishly large bug—but nonetheless it was still a bug. Like a really large firefly? Or something.
Looking closer at said bug I noticed that not all of his outer shell had the shiny black coat. There was a large white oval under both of its wings. Come to think of it, I had never seen a bug like this, and in the middle of winter nonetheless. The creatures buzzed around the bush again and then the semi-dead tree beside it before it made its way in my direction. The strange creature buzzed around my feet, never getting too close or landing on me though.
As soon as he came, he left, darting back off to the bush on where he came, see, I knew there was nothing to be worried out. That was really a strange creature though. A cold breeze blew by again and realization hit me on where I actually was. I was in the middle of a park, my skirted- school uniform, in winter. With no jacket. I'm an idiot.
"I'd better hurry home."
Readjusting my backpack that was slung over my shoulder, I began to start my pace up again and this time it was a little bit faster than it was in the beginning. The sooner I was able to get home the sooner I'd be able to make a steaming cup of hot chocolate, shower and catch up on the new season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix. Ahh, too be snuggled up in bed right now, I gave a little smile at what my future would soon belike, all curled up in my fleece blanket. Taking the bull by the horns, I began to walk quickly down the parks bike path again.
….. ….. ….. ….. …..
Three weeks.
Three weeks is as long as I had been watching her, ever since the day I first learned of her existence in this miserable world. The only one who could thwart his cause, his life, his destiny. I watched her for a couple of minutes and realized she was grown up—becoming a woman just as his lordship had predicted she would.
How he loathed her being.
From the thick shrubbery, a mystifies smile could be seen, one with a green emulating aura. His dark eyes narrowed at the sight below him, the pink haired girl of stories had brighter features then he had ever thought possible, she was actually quite pretty, her cheeks now red and puffy from the cold December weather. They looked delicious.
Too bad she was going to have to die.
'Soon' I thought to myself, 'soon… you will suffer.'
A gust of wind roared by, racing through the mass of branches jutted out every direction of his lean frame, permeating the air with a slight musky smell. The chilled wind played with every strand of his arched, gray bangs and dark eyes as it flew wildly over his pale skin and sculpted face. Grinning ear to ear, the older man left as quickly as he came, hurdling through the branches and disappearing into the frosty winter forest.
… ….. ….. ….. …..
I began to pick up my pace and made my way through the winding park, now I came out to a more residential area of my journey home. It was the market street that was only a few blocks from my house, if I headed between all the alleys I'd be home in five minutes tops! A wave of excitement washed over me as I once I picked up my pace, this time to an even faster jog.
The streets were fairly empty but considering it was about 9:00pm on a school night it didn't surprise me as much, I liked it better this way anyway. All the lights of the corner stores and bars lit the entire blocks nicely; even the alleys were well lit, thankfully for me.
Before I knew it I had made it out of the shopping district, down my self-proclaimed shortcut and into the more residential area of my home. The block I just came out on was the same block that I lived on, just a little further down the way. My pace slowed to a now steady speed and peaceful walked down the lantern-lit, brick streets.
I just love the area I lived in; everything was just so pleasant and warming any time of the year. I have been in the same house for as long as I can remember, the same room, the same everything, I liked familiar.
The entire neighborhood was covered in a newly fallen white powder and glistening ice crystals, you could say it even almost looked sort of magical. Beneath all of Winter's gifts lay white picket fences and colonial style homes. Most of the estates here had one or even two tress in the front yard, and thanks to this time of year they were all dressed head to toe in twinkling white lights– the occasional red lights here and there. All of it just warmed my heart, returning to my thoughts about getting home.
At this point I was only just down the street from my home, I could see it coming into view on my left. A little bit of me got excited again, that hot shower sounded better than ever. Arriving at my house, I pulled out my key and put it into the golden lock, turned until I heard the click and pushed my way through that navy blue door. It was pitch black in the house, it looked like i was right, my father wasn't going to back tonight.
I walked a little further into the house and flipped the light switch on the wall, revealing the tall white walls and wood floors. I had to admit, I had a beautiful home, it was subtle yet elegant. For having teenage daughter and being a single dad my father had great taste. My dad, Don Kato, was a hedge fund manager at one of the cities biggest firms. A job like that was incredibly demanding and was the reason he spent many nights away. He would occasionally pop up some mornings but then I wouldn't see him for another four days or so.
Taking my wet, squeaky shoes off at the front door I made my way upstairs to take a quick hot shower and pull on some sweatpants. While jogging up the wooden flight of steps I took the second door on the right off the hall and entered my room. My bed was placed in the middle of my room and across from that was the TV that stood on the dressers matching bed set. I slung my backpack off my shoulders and placed it on the my desk, next to the towering bookshelf.
Walking across the room I began to shed my clothes, leaving a little trail that lead into the bathroom. My feet hit the cold tile floor and I sprinted to the shower and slipped on the hot water. Waiting for the steam to start I walked back over to the sink and mirror, taking my brush from the counter I started running it though my thick pink locks.
Pink.
It was strange, no one in my family had pink hair. My father's- blue, along with his entire family. But the truth was, I knew only one side of my family. Just after I was born, my mother passed away from some type of illness, to this day I'm not really sure of what that was though. My father had no pictures, and none of my other relatives had ever gotten the chance to meet her. The only thing that I had were the small stories my father would tell every once and a while about my mother. He always said she had a fiery-temper but a beautiful soul.
I bet she had pink hair.
Realizing my shower was ready and snapping out of my thoughts I sticked the iPhone dock on and stepped into the warm liquid. The feeling of the water rolling off my body immediately relaxed my me. All the muscles began to untwist and thaw. Outside was just too cold, I guess I learned my lesson about not brining a coat. I could hear Lion by Skillet play softly in the background, it was the only song I seemed to be listening to at the moment.
Closing my eyes, the feeling of the hot water felt like it slipped into my soul, I closed my eyes and enjoyed the heat. The shower seemed to wash the thoughts of my mother and of Sasuke away. The only thing I needed to be focusing on now was my studies. Finals week was approaching fast and I needed all the R&R I could get. There would be many more late nights like this for the next few days.
After my long and well spent shower I piled out and slipped into my pajama pants and shirt. Fuzzy.
I walked out of the bathroom and once again appeared in my room, picking up the trail of cloths I left earlier and throng them into the dark green hamper that rested in my closet. With one leap I landed on my nice soft bed and crawled to the opening of my flower print comforter. Wiggling my way between the pink sheets I got cozy and reached for the remote that set on the nightstand, also part of the bed set, turning on the TV and switching over to Netflix I finally began to wind down.
