Chapter 14

Kagome is somewhere in Sakura Hills hallways. 'Where am I?' She asks herself as she walks aimlessly down the hallway. Around the hallway are the basic lockers, classroom doors and the lights off thus making it difficult for her to get a good look. "Ah so you have come." A dark voice speaks somewhere. Kagome keeps looking around trying to find where the voice is coming from. "Show yourself." She demands the individual desperately. "There's no need for that. I'm everywhere in this world." The voice chuckles darkly. Kagome starts running, trying to get away from it.

"It's no use, Kagome. No matter wherever you go, I'll be right there near you." The dark voice taunts her as the girl keeps running. She runs towards the main doors to get out of the building. She pushes the bars, but they don't move. She keeps trying to escape. "Try all you want, you cannot escape me." The dark voice said as it keeps laughing. Just hearing that voice is beginning to make Kagome feel helpless, vulnerable, weak. As such she falls to her knees, about to cry.

"You're not alone, Kagome." A new voice said to her. Kagome doesn't respond to it. "I'm here, Kagome. I'm not letting you getting hurt again." The voice assured her. As such the light forms a person in front of her. But then a smokescreen appears in front of her as. It takes shape of someone. "Naraku, why are you doing this to me?" Kagome asks as she sees the student who wouldn't leave her alone. "Why am I doing? Isn't it obvious. I cannot have you since someone else declared you as his mate instead of me." Naraku frowns at her.

"I never told you anything about that." Kagome confirms to him since she had to go to Shikon High during the program. "Not you. I happen to know about it by someone else." Naraku wags his finger to show something to Kagome. Kagome sees footage of Inuyasha with another girl. "Who's that?" She asks him. Naraku widens his grin. "That there is Kikyo. Little did you know that she was supposed to be Inuyasha's mate. Not you." Naraku explains to her.

Kagome couldn't believe that she almost looks like the other girl. The hair, the eyes, and there's something else that Kagome didn't notice. "Ah, it looks like you know something that she also have. More like what she is." Kagome is about to ask him until the bright light grabs hers and flees the area.

Kagome sits up panting quickly. "Kagome." Kagome turns to see that Inuyasha is on her bedroom floor by her bed. "What are you doing here?" She was able to ask him. Instead of answering, Inuyasha just embraces her. "Um Inuyasha? What happened?" Kagome has no idea on how to return the gesture. Inuyasha pulls back to look at her in the eye. "I was in the middle of work out and then all of a sudden I began to sweat within a matter of seconds." He starts off. Kagome can tell by the attire when working out at a gym. She even sees the sword by him.

Kagome looks down to her hands to see them sweating. "I must've had a nightmare. I didn't know I was sweating that much." She said to him. "I think the sweat was a sign that something was happening to you. It somehow made me come here to make sure that you were ok." Inuyasha explains his reason. Kagome can clearly see that Inuyasha means it. "Do you think this is a side effect of being mates even though is not's official?" She asks him.

Inuyasha climbs onto the bed and pulls her into his arms. Kagome blushes profoundly at the contact between them. "Maybe. I'm not sure at this point. All I get is the urge to look after you." Inuyasha places his chin onto her head and embraces the girl. "I guess this sweat signal pretty much proves it." Kagome comments as she snuggles in his embrace with a smile. Inuyasha smiles back as they just stay in that position for awhile.

The moment doesn't last for because a pair of footsteps are being heard through Inuyasha's ears. As such he had to get out of the bedroom before he gets caught. "Inuyasha? What are you…" Kagome's mouth is cover by his hand. "Shh. I don't want to be seen by your family yet. Listen to me carefully." Inuyasha speaks softly. Kagome nods. Inuyasha picks up the sword and takes Kagome's hand onto the hilt. Within seconds, Kagome feels a certain comfort that she cannot tell. "You need to know that this is the sword, the Tetsusaiga, my father requested a friend of his to keep my instincts intact. If at any moment something happens to me, you must let me hang onto this. That's why I had with me when I came over after that sweaty ordeal." Inuyasha repeats his explanation about the sword's purpose. Kagome tightens her grip on the hilt as much as she could.

"Could you tell me something, Inuyasha." Kagome asks him with curious eyes. He nods "Did you wanted Kikyo to be your mate instead of me?" That question made Inuyasha relax by force. There was no way he would ever tell her about Kikyo. Other than they dated before the program came in. "To be honest, I did." He admits to her. He looks so unsure about this relationship thing. It's beginning to annoy him as well.

Kagome said to him gently, "Maybe it's best that you have her instead of me. You had your future ahead of you and I kind of got in the way." Just hearing that, Inuyasha growls and pulls Kagome to his embrace. "No. even it did happen, I wouldn't be happy. I did everything I could to prevent this from happening. But I didn't work. I just wanted a normal life." He disagrees with her idea. "Whatever that damn Council did was absolute and there was nothing that could change their minds." He said to her into her ear.

The next day during her lunch break Sango is in the school library, looking through all the yearbooks she got by the end of each year she and Kagome attended Sakura hills so far. From one year after another, there isn't a single page that had Kikyo in it. "And she claimed that she's been there before. But maybe it was way before me and Kagome." She silently spoke to herself. She then goes to the computer to type down Kikyo's name on the search list of the school history.

One page shows up to Sango with Kikyo's name on it. 'Dead of a drug overdose.' The page said to her. Sango clicks the link to read what the article was about. Sango looks at the date of the death of student. 'Kikyo died ten years ago!' She gasps in her head so she wouldn't make a scene in the library. She tuns off the computer and goes to the yearbook of the year that Kikyo died. She turns the pages until she sees the girl's picture. Shockingly the girl in the person looks exactly like Kikyo that Sango met. She then turns a few pages to find a memory page of it. From what she can gather so far about the girl is more than she thought.
