Izuku joins the other boys in the 1A locker room as they exit the showers to get the sweat and dirt off.
"Oh! Midobro! What did Mr Aizawa want?" Kirishima's hair is still red from whatever radioactive level hairdye he uses, but the water has removed the gel keeping it spiky, so he's reapplying it.
"He just wanted to check over some of the aspects of my quirk. It's pretty complicated." Sero, who had the tape quirk and a perpetual grin, speaks up, making sure to keep his tone lighthearted.
"More like overpowered. What kind of quirk do you have, anyway?" Izuku grins as he changes and enters the shower, easily able to split his focus as he explains his quirk to his new classmates, much to their awe and false jealousy. They meet up with the 1A girls on the way back, and chat a little, though they do hustle, Aizawa's previous comment still in their minds.
Izuku pauses slightly when he hears a voice that sounds familiar, but doesn't risk getting in trouble and ignores it.
Aizawa isn't back by the time they return to the classroom, so they spend some time reading through the pamphlet on their desks. It has basic information, such as where to find Hound Dog and how to set up appointments with him, where the support labs are, it includes a map of the whole facility, and even has a recommendation of which classes would be useful depending on if you're interested in being a Limelight or Underground hero.
Izuku decides that neither weapons, nor firearms are on the table for him, but some proper hand to hand training would be helpful, as well as the various science classes. He makes a mental note of each class that seems interesting, then watches as Aizawa walks down the hallways to the classroom door, a stack of papers in his arms. After opening the door, he waits for a second, looking over the class, seeing that Izuku, Jiro, Shoji, and Todoroki are the only ones to have noticed him. After nodding at them, he walks into his desk at the front of the class and sits, staring at the other students.
After roughly 2 minutes, none of the other students have noticed Aizawa yet, so he quietly puts on some ear plugs, then pulls out an air horn, causing the students who've been watching him to quickly cover their ears. And just in the nick of time too, as they barely get their hands over their ears before the horn blares, causing chaos in the classroom.
While everyone reacts accordingly, a few stand out. Ashido jumps out of her chair and falls over, Kaminari accidently fries his pencil and desk, and it seems that Kirishima's rock form has increased weight, as his own instinctual quirk activation causes the chair to buckle underneath him, sending him sprawling to the floor.
Aizawa watches the chaos quietly, waiting for all the students to pay attention to him.
"For those of you who noticed me come in, extra credits. Those who didn't, work on your situational awareness. Ashido, work on your reactions when surprised, that could get you killed quickly on the field. Kirishima, Kaminari, report to Midnight tomorrow after lunch. She'll help you get those instinctual quirk activations under control." Everyone nods, then Aizawa stands up and starts handing out papers. "These are summaries of the costumes designed for you based on the plans you sent in. Your first use of these costumes will be this Saturday, so I recommend going and seeing if the costumes will actually work for you." Iida raises his hand and Aizawa looks at him.
"Sir, what if we're perfectly happy with our costume?"
"Even if it works perfectly, none of you are familiar with designing costumes, nor are you aware of your future abilities and skills. Even if these costumes work great for now, they will change as you learn more skills and gain new abilities. However, some of you seem to be unaware of certain materials, so the support course has asked me to mention that DNA infused material is a thing. A nifty material that will actually share your quirk properties and activate when you activate your own quirk. One of our third years has a Permeation quirk. Anything he was wearing passed through him when his quirk activated, but that no longer became an issue after he acquired some DNA infused clothes."
"Sir, does DNA infused clothing not allow emitter quirks to pass through it?" Yaoyorozu looks a little confused.
"It does."
"Then why doesn't Midnight use it?" Aizawa barely restrains the eye twitching at the thought of the flirtatious woman.
"Personal preference." Yaoyorozu tilts her head in further confusion, so Izuku leans back to whisper to the taller woman.
"It probably adds more to her persona as an R-rated heroine." Yaoyorozu blushes a little as she gets it, then lets Aizawa continue.
"Alright, that's all for that topic. Shoji, how strong is your enhanced hearing?" Shoji blinks at being called so suddenly, but answers with one of his mouths.
"I can hear accurately for about half a mile."
"Do buildings inhibit your hearing?"
"A little. The ears I can make aren't much stronger than a humans, I can just make more and aim them to catch sounds better." Aizawa nods and writes down a few notes, then turns to Jiro.
"If I'm not using my jacks, then I can hear accurately for about 2 miles, but only if I'm concentrating. I can kind of hear through materials, although denser materials interfere more. My jacks mostly circumvent that problem though." More notes before Aizawa turns to Izuku, already looking exhausted.
"Um, my hearing is strong enough to hear the satellite passing over the school right now. I can also hear into the ultrasonic and infrasonic frequencies." Aizawa makes notes, looking exhausted, while Jiro stares at Izuku.
"Alright, and Nezu mentioned something about sight?"
"Oh, I have telescopic and microscopic vision, and I can peer into the ultraviolet and infrared spectrums, and for some reason I even have a form of x-ray vision. So far, lead is the only material that has blocked my vision." A few of the girls jolt a little when Izuku explains his x-ray vision.
"How does your x-ray vision work, Midoriya?"
"The more I concentrate the more I can see through, but even when I'm restraining it the most, it still peels away the skin so I can see the top layer of your muscular and skeletal systems." The girls relax a little and Aizawa makes more notes.
"Alright. You three will have rooms on the top floor of 1A's dorm building. Over this next week, Nezu will have the appropriate materials added to help you maintain both the privacy of yourselves and your classmates, but until then, you'll have to practice some common decency." Aizawa looks over the whole class, then nods at what he sees. "Alright, I'll show you to the dorms, where your stuff is waiting in your assigned rooms. Grab your pamphlets and design papers and follow me." And with that, Aizawa leaves the room, not bothering to wait for anyone. The students scramble to collect everything and run out to catch up.
Aizawa doesn't say much, letting the students talk as they follow. He leads them outside and past the field where they did their tests earlier today, where another class is doing the same tests. Izuku recognizes the teacher and can't restrain himself.
"It's Vlad King! He's one of the rare heroes with a blood type quirk, and the only one to pursue a career in Limelight heroics!"
"Correct. He's also the homeroom teacher for your sister class, 1B. You'll be interacting with them regularly, so get along. Your dorms will be near each other as well." Izuku watches them as he follows the group and notices something.
"Mr Aizawa, are students placed in 1A or 1B based on the destructive potential of their quirk?"
"Partially. Those with abnormally powerful emitter based quirks join my class because I can stop them in the case of emergencies. I also get mutation types because, unlike Vlad, I use hand to hand combat to fight. Almost everyone in his class has a quirk that would require a different set of combat skills than I can teach." Izuku nods, writing the notes down in his notebook. Ochako leans over to Ashido.
"Where was he hiding that?" Ashido shrugs, then goes back to chatting with Hagakure and Kirishima.
"This is your dorm. Nezu is fine with almost anything you guys do to it as long as no laws are broken and we don't receive complaints from either your fellow classmates or other dorms. You will be expected to be responsible adults, so you have to clean up after yourselves. The laundry room is in the basement, and you can either hang the clothes or stick in the dryer. We have two main fridges for standard food, and several small fridges for special dietary needs. We do have a dishwasher, along with specially made soaps and other cleaning products specially designed to be sage for all individuals, as far as we know. If you do have issues with anything, make sure to tell either myself, or Nezu, and we'll take care of it." He pauses to make sure everyone is understanding what he's saying, then continues. "Nezu made sure that the TV in the living room is compatible with all game consoles he is aware of, and has asked me to mention that every Tuesday he will host a Dungeons and Dragons game, while every Thursday will be a Warhammer Fantasy game. Now, don't forget to look over your costume design papers and touch base with the support department." And with that, Aizawa turns around and leaves.
Everyone just stands there, a little confused at the abrupt departure before remembering that they have their stuff to unpack in their rooms and dashing to make sure nothing is broken. Izuku straight up flies outside to the top floor and realizes they have a roof deck, which he enters through to avoid the crowd downstairs. Entering the room with his name on it, he smiles at the piles of boxes in the center of the room, then inspects the bed and desk before starting to unpack. While unpacking, he manages to hear both Jiro and Shoji make it up to the top floors and enter their room. Pulling his hearing in to respect their privacy, he places his Mirko figure on the shelf above his desk and reaches into the box for his next figure.
Izuku's door slams open just as he places his All Might on the counter, startling Izuku a little, unfortunately cracking the figure slightly. Izuku pauses, looks at the crack, then looks at Bakugo, who's frozen in place, a look of worry slowly spreading across his face. Izuku takes a deep breath in, then a slow breath out, trying to calm the burning sensation in his eyes.
"Sorry, Midoria. Thought you heard me coming." Breathe in, breathe out.
"It's alright. It's always a risk, which is why I brought the less expensive, more common ones. What brings you to my room?"
"I was hoping you would be willing to share whatever notes you have on Eijiro's and Mina's quirks with them." Izuku raises an eyebrow.
"The notes you once called creepy and annoying?" Bakugo nods.
"Yep. Most of the improvements I've made were because of some of the notes I remembered from your notebook. Those compressed explosions work, and I actually can ignite the sweat from my feet." Izuku looks a little surprised, then smiles.
"Sure, let me finish unpacking, then I'll bring it down. I should probably share those notes with everyone in class, if they're interested." Bakugo nods and turns to leave, but pauses.
"Do you need some figurine repair glue?"
"Nah, I made sure to bring some." Bakugo nods then leaves. Izuku places the figurine on the shelf, then scans his boxes to find the repair glue and digs it out to apply it. Izuku makes sure the glue bonds properly, then uses his speed to carefully unpack everything else. Within an hour, Izuku manages to unpack everything and have it all set up, making sure his notebooks are in the safe. He double checks everything, nods, grabs the notebook with all the notes on his classmates' quirks, and heads downstairs, using his senses to find Bakugo's room.
He knocks on the door and enters.
"Bakugo, I brought my notebook." Izuku pauses a little at the hero posters and figures, but shakes it off and walks over to a glaring Bakugo. "Principal Nezu wanted to meet with me after I finished unpacking, so I won't be here to explain everything, but I figure you know enough to help everyone if they ask. I have everyone in order based on their desk number."
"Alright, nerd. Leave it on the desk. I'll make sure everyone gets a chance to read their entry. Any idea how long you'll be?"
"No, but Principal Nezu's opening ceremony speech lasted for three hours this morning."
"Got it. Now get out of here, I don't need everyone knowing I'm a hero nerd."
"Alright, Bakugo." Izuku nods, and leaves the dorms, waving at the few people he sees. After leaving the dorms, he uses his x-ray to find Nezu's office, then starts moving there. It takes him a good 30 minutes, since he was restrained to normal speed and to the ground. When he goes to knock, the door opens, revealing a grinning Nezu, Yagi, an older student with blonde hair, an old man Izuku doesn't recognize, and Sir Nighteye. Everyone but Nezu and Yagi look confused at Izuku's arrival.
"Toshinori, who's this boy?" Yagi grins at the old man.
"This is Izuku Midoriya. I met him 10 months ago while capturing a sludge villain." Yagi turns to Izuku. "Come in, my boy." Nighteye stiffens a little at the term of affection. "I was getting worried you weren't going to show up?"
"You invited me, Yagi, I figured it had to be important if we were meeting in Principal Nezu's office."
"And it is!" Nezu chirps, closing the door as Izuku sits beside Yagi. "Barring our two students, everyone here knows what this meeting is about. But first, Midoriya, this is Mirio Togata, a third year here at UA, and 1 of 3 students who are known as the big 3 in our school." Mirio smiles and waves, which Izuku returns. "Mirio, this is Izuku Midoriya. A first year, and one of the most powerful students UA has had the pleasure of accepting. Now, I believe Toshinori will explain to you two why you are here." Yagi nods, before looking at Mirio.
"What I'm about to reveal is a highly classified secret. I believe you can be trusted with this secret, evidenced by Mirai's own praise of you, and your own character that I've been able to see for myself." Mirio nods, and All Might grins, startling Mirio with his sudden transformation. "What you saw before is my true form. 6 years ago I was injured, and ever since then, my ability to use my quirk has been diminishing. I'm only down to 3 hours a day, and by this time next year, I'll have lost access to my quirk completely. However," All Might interrupts Mirio before he can start speaking, "my quirk is unique. I have the ability to pass on my quirk, to a new wielder, like my master did to me. I have asked both Young Mirio and Young Midoriya to attend this meeting because I believe that both of you would be worthy inheritors of not only my quirk, but my position as the Symbol of Peace. But it is your choice, both of you." All Might falls silent and returns to Yagi, directing a look at Nighteye, which silences the man before he can object.
Mirio looks stunned, before adopting a thinking face. Izuku, who knew more of the story, is less stunned, but still takes a few seconds before he can respond.
"If you don't mind, Yagi, could we know more about how your quirk works? And more about how it's passed on?"
"Certainly." Yagi grins. "It is called One for All, and it is an energy stockpile quirk that has existed since the Dawn of Quirks, back when the first wielder was alive. I am the 8th wielder, and I have been refining it for nearly 5 decades, so it has grown much stronger than when I received it. For me, when I tap into the energy, it allows me to take my muscle form and greatly enhances all of my physical abilities. However, it does require a minimum level of fitness and musculature, otherwise that power will be too great for your bodies." The old man on Yagi's other side snorts.
"That's only because Toshinori here is a meathead. I knew his master before she acquired One for All and know that it attached itself to her quirk, greatly empowering it. Before she could only float slowly up or down a few feet at a time. After getting the quirk, she could fly as fast as a passenger plane. It did give her a passive physical boost, but nothing like what Toshinori here can do." Nighteye is sitting quietly, though it seems to be with effort.
"I believe it improved my physical abilities to such an extent because I did not have a quirk for One for All to attach itself to. For either of you boys, I believe your own quirks would receive a power boost that exceeds the difference between my normal strength and my enhanced strength, for One for All increases in strength during the transfer." Izuku pauses, thinking about how his life would be if his quirk suddenly gained that kind of power boost. How fast would he metabolize solar energy? Could he even adapt to getting so much stronger at that speed? Would he even want to be that strong?
"All Might, sir?" Mirio's voice is quiet. "Am I here because Sir Nighteye recommended me?" Yagi looks at the boy, and sees the sliver of fear in his eyes. He can hear the question Mirio's really asking.
"Mirai recommended you, yes. However, that only introduced me to your existence. This past month, Nezu has been kind enough to allow me to watch some of your exploits, and learn more about you as a person, and as a hero. That is why you are here. I truly believe that you would be a worthy successor, same as Young Midoriya here, regardless of how either of you choose." Mirio perks up, smiling bright and Nighteye relaxes, glancing at Mirio in pride. In truth, Nighteye had been fearing that All Might was simply humoring his request.
"Yagi, you know my actual quirk is the absorption and metabolization of solar energy, and that everything else I can do are just side effects, right?"
"I do, Young Midoriya."
"I don't think I should take One for All. We don't know how fast I'd start absorbing and metabolizing solar energy, nor how fast my other abilities would grow in strength. How long would I have before I have to leave so I don't hurt anyone? Even now, I have to actively repress my quirk just to interact normally with everyone else." Yagi nods, and smiles at Izuku, patting him on the back.
"Honestly, I figured you'd say that, but I wanted you to have that choice, rather than make it for you."
"Sir, would you be disappointed in me if I say no as well?" Mirio asks Nighteye.
"No. I believe you can be a great hero, with or without One for All. But I do think One for All will allow you to save more people, without the inherent risks that Midoriya faces." Mirio nods, then thinks for a few seconds more, then looks at Yagi, a confident grin on his face.
"I would like to inherit One for All, All Might." All Might grins.
"Very well, Young Mirio! I have kept those who know my secret close and few, but when you receive it, you have the choice of who you would tell. Some personal advice? Make sure your teacher, and closest loved ones are aware, that way those who would ask questions are already in the know. I also recommend working with Young Midoriya here, if he's willing. I've seen some of his work on quirk analysis, and was greatly impressed." Izuku flushes a little in embarrassment.
"I'm sure Sir Nighteye is better than me at quirk analysis."
"Maybe, but it still takes a lot to impress Toshinori, and a fresh perspective is always welcome in the analysis community, Midoriya." Nighteye smiles at Izuku. "However, I don't believe we have time to worry about this yet. When do you plan on having Mirio inherit One for All?"
"During this meeting. His body is already at a level where he shouldn't take any damage from just holding the power. It does require him to digest some of my DNA, so it should be ready to test in a few hours."
"DNA? How would he digest your DNA?"
"I would do it the same way my master transferred it to me, by having him eat one of my hairs. I use special hair products for just this purpose." Midoryia frowns a little and turns towards Yagi.
"Would a small blood swap work?" Yagi pauses, then looks at Midoriya.
"Probably. Nana said that's how the 6th holder gave it to her." Yagi whips around to look at the old man. "She told you to eat the hair as a joke, but you went ahead and did it, and got One for All that way, so she decided to let things be." Yagi looks a little embarrassed as the three youngest people stifle their chuckles, but he looks at Mirio.
"Well, however you want to do it then, Young Mirio."
"Blood transfusion should be faster, since we won't have to wait for the digestive acids to break down the DNA."
"Let's do the blood transfusion then." Yagi nods and pulls out a pocket knife, then makes a small cut on the tip of his thumb, then hands it to Mirio, who does the same. After letting the blood pool up a bit on their thumbs, they press the bloodied thumbs together. After a few seconds, they pull the thumbs apart and begin applying the band aids provided by Nezu. Not even a minute after the transfer, Mirio jolts and sits straight, his eyes staring a million miles away.
"Mirio? Is everything alright?"
"Yeah, sorry. I wasn't expecting people in my head though." Everyone freaks out a little, but they settle down as Mirio tries to answer everything. "Hold on. So, I'm hearing a few people in my head, they claim to be the 1st, 5th, 6th, and 7th. Apparently One for All was on the brink of going through singularity, and adding my quirk to the mix pushed it over the edge. Umm, Nana says she is really proud of you, All Might. And they're pretty sure I got a physical boost equal to about 10% of what I have stored. It definitely caused a Quirk Evolution with Permeation, but they're not sure what it is yet."
"Alright, I believe that is enough excitement for today. All Might and I will bring Mirio to Recovery Girl so she can do a physical examination. Nighteye, you're welcome to stay, but I know you're working on that investigation." Nighteye frowns, but nods.
"I would like updates, please." He turns to Mirio and smiles. "I'm proud of you, Mirio. Don't take too long before you come back." Then Nighteye leaves.
"I better head off as well. It'll be dark by the time I get home, so those crooks will be ready for a good thrashing." All Might sweat drops, but Nezu simply gives a feral smile.
"Of course, Gran Torino. Get them my regards." Finally, Nezu turns to Izuku. "You may come with us, or you may return to your dorm with your classmates."
"I think I'll head back to the dorm. I let Bakugo use my notes to help some of our classmates, but I'm still worried, since I don't like them being out of my custody for long." Nezu looks a little too interested for All Might's taste, but he can't say much, since he already mentioned Izuku's intelligence himself.
"Indeed. I would like to have a look at these notes of yours, if possible. Maybe this Wednesday, after classes?"
"I would be honored, Principal Nezu. I've always wondered how my analysis compares to professionals, though Yagi always compliments my work." Izuku gives a small smile.
"It would be my pleasure. Oh, and I noticed that Aizawa forgot to mention this to your class, but UA campus is private property, so all students and teachers are allowed to use their quirks at any time, except for causing deliberate harm to another. Training with each other is fine, and injuries are bound to happen, but intentional injuries for the sake of causing harm, or simply attacking someone and claiming to be sparring? We will press villain charges as needed." Izuku nods, and walks to the window, before opening it and stepping onto the air outside, floating as he turns.
"See you later, Mirio. I don't sleep, so feel free to contact me if you'd like my analysis at any time." Mirio waves, looking a little dumbstruck while staring at Izuku. Izuku waves and rockets off to 1A's dorm.
