Two weeks have passed since Spencer's return to Port Charles, Laura's awakening, and Spencer's clean bill of health, courtesy of the excellent staff of General Hospital. Laura had returned home to her family. There were no more signs of catatonia and she was embarrassed by what had happened, but happy that Lucky was home for good.
Lucky had gotten his own apartment and had returned to the police force. He was not only spending time getting to know his boys again but rebuilding a more healthy friendship with Elizabeth. Laura had hoped that maybe the two would get back together, but both had insisted that they were just friends for now. Whether they get back together in the future was something that they couldn't say because they were still getting used to the people they were now and just leaving the people they were in the past. Lucky also made himself available for his sibling's kids. He grew especially close to Spencer. Lucky and Spencer bonded over having strife with their father figures and Lucky advised Spencer that it was ok to be angry with Nikolas for what he had done to their relationship, but to also remember that Nikolas was not perfect. He was just a man and he loved his sons. That when Nikolas did return, it would be best to heal the rift and get to know his father on a new level. All in all, Lucky Spencer was happy to be home with his family and planned to never leave them again.
As for Spencer and Trina...things were not as happy. Well, not happy for the people in Trina's life anyway. After Spencer's return, Trina decided to go ahead and get the paternity test done and over with. She needed to know who her biological father was. Portia would hover and make sure that Spencer and Trina had not a moment of alone time together as they waited for the results. In fact, going against everyone's advice, Portia continued to plan and scheme to break up her daughter's romance with the handsome Cassadine heir. She totally blamed Spencer for everything bad that had happened in her daughter's life in the past two years and ignored the good.
Once the results of the DNA test were known, everything blew up. Portia couldn't take it anymore when Trina ran into Spencer's arms, upset that Curtis had turned out to be her bio dad. Not because it was Curtis, but just because of the big lie and the hurt it caused both Curtis and Taggert. She just hurt for both of them and Spencer's arms were a neutral place to be in the situation.
Portia blew up, telling Spencer to get his hands off his daughter and that he was an evil Cassadine and just as bad as his family and she wasn't going to let him drag her daughter down. Trina ended up slapping Portia good and hard, breaking off her tirade and their relationship for good. She was too angry about everything. Her mother's lies, the hurt that Portia had caused, and now this new attack on the man she loved.
"It's over Mom! You have caused serious hurt to both Curtis and Daddy with your lies! You stand here and claim how evil the Cassadines are, how evil Spencer is when the evil one is you! You lie and lie and keep lying! Then when you see me actually happy and have someone to turn to that is not you, you attack them! Spencer is not evil! He was never evil! It was MY decision to go on that boat!"
"That's just it baby," Portia pleaded, tears of frustration wetting her cheeks. "You don't make good decisions when it comes to him! He has you totally blinded and will drag you down to his level and I can't stand by and let that happen."
"Portia, I think you should just back off now," Taggert warned. He had told and told this woman to stay out of Trina's relationship with Spencer and so had Curtis. Obviously, Portia had to bump her own damn head.
"I am not a baby! Stop calling me that! As for my decisions, they've never led me wrong! I'm glad that I followed Spencer onto that boat because as a result, we saved the freaking world, Mom! If I hadn't gone on that boat, Spencer would have been alone and scared and unable to stop his Uncle from releasing that Pathogen. I'm sure that everyone wouldn't have been able to find the haunted star in time because I wouldn't have been there to contact home with the coordinates! But instead, what do Spencer and I get? Nothing but grief from the queen of lies!"
Portia winced and took a step back. "Trina…"
"I am not a little girl anymore! I am 21 years old now! 21 years of being lied to about who my father is! I can make my own damn decisions, I do not need your input! Especially after all your lies and manipulations! You have no room to judge Spencer or anyone! Apologize right now are we are done! You will no longer be my mother! I have two dads now, so I really don't need you anymore anyway at this point!"
Portia gasped. "Trina, you don't mean that."
"I do. Now are you going to apologize for your attack on my boyfriend or are you out of my life for good?"
Portia looked at Curtis and Taggert, who just looked away from her, the hurt they felt over the DNA results too fresh for them to be of any help to her, even if they wanted to be. She looked at Trina, whose eyes were dark with anger. There was not even a glimpse of love and even respect in her eyes. It was obvious that she had lost her now.
"I can't. I can't stand here and pretend that I agree with this relationship."
Finally, Taggert spoke up, unable to take it anymore. "For goodness sake, Portia! Do you think I like it that our daughter is dating this kid? For goodness sake, I know all about the Cassadines. My sister dated his father! I don't agree with this at all! But, I realize that Trina is an adult! She has her own life to live now, her own decisions. She's not a little girl anymore. She's not even a teenager! She doesn't need my approval! I'm not pretending to like this! I'm accepting it and I'm respecting my daughter's decision and ability to live her own life! That's the difference between you and me. I respect and trust Trina. You obviously don't."
"Marcus!"
"And why am I even saying anything right now? You obviously decided not to listen to me and back off."
Portia looked at Curtis. "You agree with him? She's your daughter too!"
"The daughter I didn't get to raise, thanks to you. I missed out on all her milestones, thanks to you. All but one. In Greenland, I saw Trina fall in love and have that love returned. Spencer had put his life on the line for her time and again. Even got beaten unconscious for her. The kid is not as bad as you want him to be and Trina's decisions are her own. She has a good head on her shoulders. You are wrong, Portia on all levels," Curtis rubbed the back of his neck. "Stop being selfish and think about what you're doing to your daughter with these tirades."
In the end, Portia couldn't bring herself to apologize. She flat-out refused and insisted that Spencer was bad for her daughter. So Trina had decided to cut her mother out of her life for good. She returned to the Dorm immediately and got permission to stay at Wyndemere with Ava until she was able to find a place of her own.
Now, a week later, after the blowout with her mother, she and Spencer were in the Wyndemere stables, feeding the horses there, both were relaxed and happy. Smiling Spencer handed Trina an apple to feed to a horse named Snowflake, a pure white Arabian mare.
"She's so beautiful. I wish I could ride her," Trina sighed feeding the horse with one hand and stroking the horse's mane with her free hand while Spencer wrapped his arms around her from behind.
"Have you ridden before?" Spencer asked, kissing the back of her neck.
"No. I always wanted to learn, but with one parent a busy doctor and another a busy detective, there was no time to get me lessons, but I had always wanted to learn."
Spencer's arms tightened around her, holding her closer to his body. "Well, it's never too late if you want to. I know of a riding instructor who would be happy to come out and help you learn to ride Snowflake here. She's the sweetest horse around."
"Who? Your cousin Charlotte?" Trina giggled.
"No. She's way too young. She could probably tutor you in French though. No, I'm talking about a professional instructor."
"I don't know. It'd probably cost a fortune," Trina sighed.
"So?"
"So? Spencer, I couldn't possibly ask you to pay for me to learn how to ride a horse."
"Why not? Trina...on the Haunted Star...we said we'd fight for each other, right?"
"We were fighting for our lives then."
"So? It shouldn't only apply when we're in danger. It should apply to everything we do as a couple...and as friends. What's the use of my big inheritance if I can't use it to help the people I...I care about? Huh?"
"You can use it to get your own place so we can have some privacy and we can do more than cuddle," Trina turned around in his arms and wrapped her own around his neck. "I keep thinking about when we had gotten so close and had almost...and I keep wondering when we'll actually get to go all the way. I know that you want to make my first time special but…"
"What?"
"Ever since you got home...I just want to be close to you all the time. Every kiss...every hug...it's never enough and then when you go back to your grandmother's...it's like a part of me is missing. It's gone with you, you know?"
"I know. It's getting harder and harder to say goodbye."
"Right."
Spencer sighed and leaned his forehead down against hers, feeling a little amused by their height difference. "My Trina. You are tiny, but you are mighty."
"Stop it, I'm being serious," Trina sighed.
"Alright, alright. I get it. You want me to start looking for us a place. Is that what you're saying?"
"I want you to look for you a place. A place where I can have a drawer...and a place to keep my toothbrush...and makeup. And maybe a bonnet or scarf or two."
Feeling a little bit of strain on his neck, he wrapped his arms around her and lifted her off her feet, so they could be more face-to-face. Trina squealed happily and wrapped her legs around his waist. She loved it when he held her like this.
"Ok. So a place of my own where you can come stay the night whenever you like, because you're not ready for the full-on living together part, yet?"
"Right."
"Okay. I can do that."
"Really? You don't mind? I mean, I know that you want to stay close to Ace."
"I'm going to visit that kid each and every day, so it won't be a problem," Spencer chuckled. "Right now, I want to give you what you need, which is a sanctuary of our own."
"Right. And then if you still want to do riding lessons."
"We'll do all of it and more," Spencer grinned, kissing her long and deep.
As they parted, Trina happily sighed. "I love you Spencer Cassadine."
Spencer blinked, not surprised that she was in love with him, but by the quickness of the confession. Looking into her eyes, he saw it all there. Her love for him was the reason for her not ratting him out, for always wanting to be by his side at his most stressful of moments, for following him into danger. She truly loved him. He once told her that he wanted to know what it was like to have someone care so much about him that it would make them sad if he wasn't around, and now, he had that in Trina.
"I love you, too. I know that your mother's right and I don't deserve you at all…"
"No, she's wrong, Spencer. You do deserve me and so much more. Don't listen to people like her."
"I don't...not anymore. Not with you here in my arms, loving me as you do. You're my heart, Trina."
"You're definitely mine, Spencer. My heart beats on and on for you."
The couple just stared into each other's eyes for a few minutes then lost each other in a deep, passionate kiss.
They were two soulmates, deeply in love. A love that will last them both for a lifetime. No matter what may happen from here on out, the love that they shared, that filled their hearts, will go on and on.
(A/N: Here it is, the last chapter of the story. Thank you to everyone for reading and reviewing! I hope that you all had enjoying the story.)
