Peter's POV

I fly a foot back from Jane while she stomps through the cave. Tinkerbell tingles beside me, whining about her nasty attitude, but there isn't much either of us could do. It wasn't my idea to bring her.

'In order for you to go forward, you must go back.'

I thought returning to Wendy would somehow help. Maybe she could heal my heart. So for years, I watched them.

But I didn't expect Hook to use the last of the faerie dust that was left on the Jolly Roger, to make it fly.

Hook kidnapped Jane.

And I saved her.

But she wants nothing to do with me. The only way for me to return her to Wendy is by flight. I don't think I've met a girl with more negative thoughts than Jane.

I've tried about everything to make her smile, but it all comes down to me failing.

"Why don't you fly off somewhere?" Jane huffs.

"It's dangerous to travel alone," I frown.

"Because there are elves and pirates!" She exclaims loudly. She could have alerted anything dangerous within a radius of us. "I've yet to see an Elf and the pirates stay near the shore." "Pirates can come inland and elves are sneaky," I try to explain.

"I'll be fine!" She shouts.

I fly further back from her, but she glares back at me. When we reach the exit, the sun sets beyond the mountains. Illuminating everything in orange gold.

I continue to follow her in silence until I can see the hideout. "I'll take my leave."

She turns to me with a surprised look on her face. "You're leaving me?"

"Didn't you want me to leave not that long ago?"

"Yeah, but…."

"I'll be back soon, I promise."

I fly off before she can say another word.

Tinkerbell and I land on the shore in front of the cave in the hill. I've come here enough now that the witch no longer questions me. But as I approach the cave, there is only silence except for the beating of the waves.

"Witch?" I call out.

"Come in, Peter," she replies.

I step into the cave. The dirt ground cold against my bare feet. It's dark at first, a faint gleam of light is far off in the distance. The closer I get to the light, the brighter it becomes. This cave is magic. As in, it stretches further than the actual hill is wide. Plus, a sea witch lives here and she can make herself appear and disappear at will.

I've watched her work magic from healing wounds to making potions of all sorts.

She once made a potion that turned an ugly old hag into a beautiful woman.

As I reach the fire pit, I see the sea witch crushing some flowers in a bowl.

"Can you help someone fly?'

"Did the faerie dust not work?" She questions with her back to me.

I grumble. "She has no happy thoughts."

"I have no way to help you."

"Not even a potion to make her happy?"

"I can make her love you, but I don't think it'd change her mood."

"I don't want her to love me. I want the pain to end."

She twists to me, bowl in hand. "I'm sorry, Peter."

"You said going back will make me go forward," I mutter.

"Did you know there is a new pirate ship along the shore of our island?" She asks with a thin gray brow raising.

My bottom lip sticks out in a pout. "How does that help me?"

She shrugs and turns away. Getting back to work on her flowers.

When I finally exit the cave, it's dark. I have lied to Jane. I did not come back soon. The stars shine brightly and the moon is full. I can see the outline of the island from where I stand in front of the cave.

The witch and I didn't speak much after our conversation. I relaxed watching her at work. Normally, I can't stay still for more than a few minutes, but there is something about the cave that calms me.

I roll my head back and look up at the stars.

"I will return Jane to you, Wendy."
