10x12, 'The Three Eyed Raven'
The morning after. The reckoning.
Daenerys slumbers behind him, tangled in bed sheets heated by a night of passion. He can still feel the phantom press of her against him. Smell her scent on every inch of his skin.
I love you.
The words she'd whispered into his ear during the hour of the wolf. In the comfort of darkness, he'd wanted to believe them.
Can he in the cold light of day?
He's always known that he could never do a casual relationship with Daenerys, because he feels too much and it'd kill him to know she didn't feel enough.
I love you.
Now the thought that she does makes him feel worse. He's had a taste of her, and he'll never be able to resist her again.
He shouldn't do anything to jeopardise her fledgling reign. She's a queen, but she's also young, prone to bouts of fecklessness.
She's wiser than you give her credit for, a voice inside his head whispers. He is transported back to the steely determination on Daenerys' face as she had pitched the idea of allowing the queensguard more freedom to pursue their own hearts.
"You'll be glad of it one day," she'd said.
"Jorah?"
He turns to find Daenerys sitting up in bed.
The look in her eyes gives him the truth: she doesn't regret what's passed between them.
You'll be glad of it one day.
There's longevity pledged in those words.
"What are you doing over there?" she says.
"It's almost daybreak. I can't be found here."
Daenerys' look tells him that she wouldn't care if he was discovered in her chambers. "We've plenty of time for you to sneak out before anyone is any the wiser."
And with that she throws the sheets off, padding over to his side, wrapping slim arms around his waist and pressing a kiss between his shoulder blades. She squeezes him tight.
A promise.
This is the way things will be. This is what she wants. And they'll find a way to navigate it. Together.
He doesn't understand it. But he'll try to. For her.
