Kol didn't wake for three days and Davina was worried sick. Her spell must have been wrong.
"It will be fine. I am sure this just needs time." Caroline tried to soothe Davina.
"I am really glad that you are here." Davina told her then and Caroline smiled and hugged her.
"I am glad you are here too! I know the Mikaelson family can be a bit much."
Davina laughed. "Yes, they can. Do you ever have any doubts about you and Klaus?"
"Well, now, no. But there was a time when I wanted him dead, but he kept showing me that he cared about me and I can't explain it…he has a past and I have to live with that, but maybe the future won't be as dour. We will see."
Davina nodded being able to relate. She was so nervous how Kol would be when he woke up. Would he still be her Kol?
He was alive again, so if this had only been a charade then he didn't need her anymore. Those thoughts came to her for about thirty seconds before she reminded herself again, that she could trust him. However, she needed to hear him say it.
Davina kept watch over him and hardly left him alone. She wanted to be there when he woke. After three days he finally stirred and slowly opened his eyes.
"You are awake!" She breathed sitting on the bed next to him.
"For how long have I been out?"
"Three days. How do you feel?"
"Reincarnating from ash takes its toll after all." He rubbed his face.
"I was really worried!"
He smiled and looked at her face. And she knew that everything was fine. Her eyes lit up.
"You have no idea how badly I want to kiss you right now."
Davina hugged him tightly. She looked into his eyes and their lips came to rest upon each other. There was a tingling sensation rushing through Kol and centring in his guts. He smelled her and heard her heartbeat. Her beautiful heart.
"Now," He broke away. "…with the risk of sounding too forward I need you to put a ring on this finger." He grinned and Davina laughed. "Does this mean we are going steady, Kol Mikaelson?"
"You and your lecherous heart, Davina Claire!" He smiled and suddenly looked serious. "Davina, I mean it when I say that I want to be with you. I know everybody else has only horrifying stories to tell about me, but I hope that you will believe me, when I tell you that you can trust me. No harm will come to you, my love."
"Can you control it? The hunger?" She touched his cheek gently and for a second Kol let his veins show.
"I can control it! I am not lying to you, I never had to and I never learned how, but I am going to do right by you. However, I might need some time."
Davina nodded. "That's okay. I trust you."
Kol's eyes looked as if something was breaking inside of him all over again in that moment. He kissed her again with all the feelings that he had for her. She broke all his defences over and over again and he couldn't help it, but he felt hopelessly lost without her.
So after Davina had spelled a daylight ring for Kol they went to see the rest of the family.
Later on after the small welcome back dinner they retired upstairs and as their bedroom door had closed Kol couldn't take it any longer and kissed his lovely witch.
The kiss deepened and Davina exhaled sharply. She felt giddy and her skin prickled all over her body. Kol's tongue started to play with hers and his hands wandered from her hips a bit further up so his thumbs were gently caressing the bare skin just above them hemline of her jeans. Davina's gut clenched and she sucked in a breath moaning slightly. He pushed his body against hers and they stumbled backwards until Davina's back hit the wall.
Kol pressed into her and his hands wandered under her clothes, grazing her delicate hot skin. As Davina felt his desire pressing against her leg, she suddenly became self-conscious. She opened her eyes and her hands pushed at Kol's chest, but Kol kept kissing and stroking her skin.
"Kol." She managed to say as he went on to kiss her neck. There was a chill running down her spine, but as of now she didn't know anymore if it was from Kol's lips or her sudden discomfort.
"Stop." Suddenly there was magic cursing through her fingers, a self-defensive unconscious act.
Kol noticed the magic a micro second too late and he flew across the room. His vampire face growled at Davina from off the floor and his red rimmed eyes glared.
She clasped her hands in front of her mouth being surprised by her action and frightened of Kol.
"I'm sorry." She whispered.
Kol got up still with his vampire face showing and looking pissed off.
Davina couldn't grab a thought and simply waited for what would happen next.
Kol breathed heavily. "What the fuck, darling!? Nasty game you're playing here!"
"No." She shook her head. "Kol, please, let me explain." She was afraid her heart would jump out of her chest as Kol growled trying to slow his breath. His features smoothened gradually and then he noticed her heartrate and frowned. Suddenly it hit him and he realised that she was scared.
Now, he always scared people and there was this thrill about it, when your prey's heartrate pounded in your ears and the blood rushing through the veins, the screams in your ears and the horror in their eyes.
It was as if he heard the "pang" ringing in his ears from the pan that someone hit his head with.
This was no prey! It was Davina and he hadn't noticed how his vampire side had taken over.
He panted and tried harder to calm down.
This is it, Davina thought and tears pricked in her eyes. I ruined it! He is pissed off.
"Kol…" She started, but he raised a hand to stop her. "Give me a second here, darling." He concentrated hard on his breathing and as his eyes turned back to the normal shade of brown again he nodded. "Please, let me explain." She asked, trying to mend what she had broken, though she was sure this was it for them.
"There is nothing to explain, I got carried away and scared you. It was never my intention to scare you. I am sorry, Davina. I lost control."
"Kol."
"I think I should go."
"Kol, please wait!" He heartrate exhilarated again and now Kol was very perceptive of it.
"Why would you want me to stay? I am not sure I wouldn't have eaten you had I gotten further carried away!" He sounded upset.
Davina swallowed. "I haven't thought about that." She admitted and Kol stopped.
"Then why were you afraid?" He wondered. Suddenly she blushed crimson. Here she was, not afraid for her life, but because of… "Oh…"
"Out with it!" Kol demanded without stepping closer.
"This is so embarrassing." She mumbled. "I…I don't have much experience with guys. I have never, well…and you possibly have expectations and…"
"Davina Claire." Her name rolled off his tongue with amusement and affection. He stepped closer and Davina hugged herself, so he stopped again.
"You're laughing."
"Yes, and I realise that it is not the appropriate reaction, but I am relieved."
She blinked feeling insecure.
"Look, I promised I wouldn't hurt you, but I lost control and I don't want you to be scared of me, now while I obviously have to work on my "eating my date" issues, I certainly can refrain from bedding you a little longer." She looked surprised at him and he winked. "Don't get me wrong, this will not be easy, but…" He slowly stepped closer again. "…but I am not that much of a monster. You tell me, when you are ready. I can wait." He smiled his roguish grin she adored so much.
"Don't look so surprised, darling." Truth be told, he had surprised himself. He had just realised that he meant every word he had just said. He would wait, if her terms were for them to wait then he would abide.
"Kol, are you sure?" She couldn't believe it.
"Yes." He admitted and swallowed, suddenly he looked wary and took a deep breath as he said. "I love you."
Davina looked at him in awe and as Kol saw this look in her eyes he told her again. "I love you, Davina Claire."
She swallowed. "I love you too." Her hand caressed his cheek and they smiled at each other and laughed almost shy.
"May I kiss you again? And don't worry about tossing me about again if it gets too much. I can handle it."
"Kol Mikaelson, you are a wondrous man."
"I surprised myself tonight, to be honest."
They smiled at each other, before Davina leaned closer offering him her lips. This time the kiss was soft and sweet.
After a few days Marcel came to the compound and glared at Davina, however, Kol vamped in front of her.
"Kol, it's fine."
"I know." He just said, but kept standing where he was. "I just wanted be the first to greet Marcellus."
"Good to see you too." Marcel sneered, then his eyes glanced behind him at Davina. Kol was immediately in his face. "Do not even look at her!" He threatened.
Marcel laughed. "How long till you kill her?"
"I would never harm Davina!"
"Trouble is no one believes that!"
"We do!" Caroline suddenly said appearing next to Davina.
"And who the hell are you?"
"Marcellus, now do not anger the ladies of the house, would you?" Klaus asked in a fake polite tone. "Let's talk business in my study, shall we?" He pointed in the direction of the front door. Marcel threw all of them a nasty look while he walked over to Klaus who rolled his eyes behind Marcel's back. Caroline smirked, then she turned to Davina and Kol who looked at her with a frowning face.
"What?" She asked chipper.
Kol tried to think of something clever to say, but it was one of these rare moments when he had no words. Caroline rolled her eyes. "Look, I get that we never got along, but since we are kind of family now, maybe we could try to get along. Besides you are not so bad, now."
Kol huffed. "This is why settling for mortals is the first sign of weakness." He turned to Davina and continued. "Everybody loves you and thinks you are their friend." He extended his hand to her and pulled her into his side to give her a kiss on her hair. Then he looked at Caroline again and stepped toward her offering his hand. "All right then, since we are kind of family now, let's start over, sister." Caroline shook his hand. He couldn't resist though to threaten her anyway. "If you tell this to anyone outside of this family, I cannot guarantee what will happen."
"Kol!" Davina scolded him, but Caroline smiled anyway.
"Don't worry, you get used to the threats uttered by the Mikaelson brothers."
"How can you be so trusting?" Klaus asked Caroline that evening while they were lying in bed.
"How can you not be?" Caroline pulled the blanket over her naked body and put her head onto Klaus' chest.
"Because I have known Kol for forever!"
"But when you met me, you changed as well. Why is it different now?"
"Because unless me, Kol had never learned how to control himself."
Suddenly there was a scream and Caroline widened her eyes.
"And there we go, now he has eaten the girl!" Klaus said waving a hand about.
Caroline vamped out of bed and quickly donned a bathrobe before running out of the room. Klaus rolled his eyes. Bloody hell!
Everyone was already gathered downstairs in the courtyard. Kol and Davina in the centre of it.
"It's fine, nothing happened!" Davina said loud and clear.
"What's going on?" Rebekah asked.
"It's fine, nothing happened!" Kol repeated, but his sister pushed him out of the way. "I am not talking to you." She walked straight up to Davina. "What happened, are you okay?" Caroline followed Rebekah. Davina nodded. "It's fine really, nothing happened."
Kol groaned rubbing his face.
"He hasn't compelled you, has he?"
"My god, Rebekah! Nothing happened!" Kol yelled. "And she is on vervain, she cannot be compelled." Davina nodded. "Do you really think that low of me? Jesus!"
"I am surprised you put her on vervain." Klaus said loudly now joining in on the gathering.
"Nik, I won't even comment that, obviously no one believes me here."
"And here I thought I was the only one taking care of that." Klaus added and everyone looked at him shellshocked.
"Come on now, for the first time, Kol brings a girl home that I happen to like and you honestly think I wouldn't take precautions?"
It was so absurd that Caroline snorted, but quickly put her hand in front of her mouth. "I'm sorry, it's not funny."
"Well, I believe it kind of is." Elijah said to everyone's surprise. "However, I believe we all made sure that everything is well. I will retire again, if you don't mind."
"Me too." Rebekah said and patted Davina's shoulder. "Scream if you need anything." She winked as Kol groaned in frustration. "Must be exhausting not to be trusted with your own girlfriend." She grinned and kissed her brother's cheek. "Good night."
Caroline smiled. "I believe you guys will be fine."
"Nik, where did you put the vervain?" Kol asked loudly.
Klaus smirked and looked directly at Davina. "It is in your cereal, love." He was about to turn around, when Davina spoke up: "I appreciate the gesture, Klaus. But no harm in telling me next time." Klaus smirked at her. "Of course, love. Good night then."
He and Caroline retired and Kol looked after them. Davina stepped up to him and Kol told her what his brother just told Caroline: "He thinks you show backbone and he likes that. Are you okay?"
She nodded. "Yes, you just caught me off guard."
"I know and that is what worries me. I think we need to pick up your training again."
Davina smiled softly at him. "I appreciate you trying to keep me safe."
"Always. I love you."
"I love you too."
Epilogue
"I am still bumped that you left." Rebekah pouted on the phone, but Kol just chuckled.
"I am sorry you feel that way, but it was the best decision for us. I don't need to be a part of always and forever anymore."
"You are still my brother, you know that you cannot get out of that, right?"
"Yes, but like all normal families I am happy to see you guys once every two years, like for Thanksgiving or Christmas or a wedding."
Rebekah snorted. "I am not sure Nik believes in something as human as marriage." But then she shut up and gasped. "No! Kol!?"
"I am going to propose tonight."
"Oh my bloody god! What!? I don't believe it! You are what?"
"I want to show everyone that she is mine, always. I…" He breathed.
"You sound extremely happy, Kol."
"I am. For a thousand years I never experienced love or peace and it is overwhelming."
"From what I can tell, you are handling it quite well. I never thought I would be jealous of you."
"Don't be. It took me a thousand years and a lot of loses."
"Say hi to Davina for me."
"I will, bye Bekah."
Kol hung up and thought about the impending question he was about to ask his girl. The small jewel case was pressing against his leg from inside of his pocket.
Thank you guys so much for reading this! All the best to you! xoxo
