Authors note: My GOD it's been so long since I decided to finish this fanfiction after 4 years! I'm sorry to those I disappointed just leaving you with a small excerpt idea of a story. But readers, it was definitely not enough. Especially back in 2013 when I had everything written out for you but was too lazy to finish the rest online. Those who faved this story and commented for me to update probably don't remember this , but if you are ever notified to finish it, please do! Without further ado I present what I wanted to finish in a long time, the origin of Lock Shock and Barrel.
Note: I also want to thank witch_shock on Instagram for noticing this story and publishing a translated version of it on ficbook. Thanks so much and keep on reading!
Halloween was nearly finished in Housetown. The kids all wished that they could relive the magical experience, not just to get candy but to witness the events of the night all over again. Despite being segregated, all of the kids in Housetown were still kids. And no matter who they were with or what group they were in, they all shared the same interest of spending Halloween together, where they could actually look and act however they wanted and go as a group of friends just to have fun.
But all holidays come to an end; after all; they always come only once a year.
It grew very late in the hour, and Barrel soon started to notice the first stars appear in the sky, signaling the official Housetown "rules and regulations " for trick or treating past a certain point in the night .
He then looked ahead at the other houses, which all seemed to have their lights off. Barely anyone was outside.
Like every year, Barrel was the very last one to trick or treat, wanting to make sure he got his candy's worth for the night.
But strangely, tonight was quieter than usual. Too quiet.
He licked his big orange and black swirl lollipop. Looking up at the moon, he swore he could see a shadow move.
But he couldn't be sure... He shrugged and went back home.
Lock headed toward his mansion.
He was finished with a quarter of his Halloween candy already. To the point where he didn't feel hungry anymore was when he decided to head back.
He ate like this because he didn't want to come home to his drunken parents making him their own sloppy dinner, because they thought Lock was so special that everything had to be done for him, but above all else ; he didn't want them constantly being on his tail about everything he has done, and every accomplishment in his entire life. A holiday was the perfect time for them to nag about how perfect their son Lock really was. And Lock honestly found it very annoying.
"I'm just gonna go right up to my room... I'm not gonna be bothered..." He knew his parents occasionally found some excuse to bother him one way or another when he went back home.
Right away, he slammed the door behind him and ran up the spiral staircase to his bedroom before his parents could speak a word.
Now that he mentioned it, he couldn't tell if they were even downstairs.
He scratched his head after he entered his room, but shut the door behind him and immediately with to bed.
At least his mother would surely come in before he slept to give him a goodnight kiss. She always did that.
The hour passed slowly but surely. 1:05. 1:17. 1:33.
Had they even noticed he was gone? Lock wasn't just anxious at this point. He was getting scared.
Shock had to carry her sack of candy back home. It was so full that every once in a while, her hands burned from pulling the drawstring, and she had to rest her hands a bit before pulling the string again.
But she couldn't give a care, her body was exhausted but her mind was wide awake, because it was filled with thoughts of the rich kids begging her for candy.
Her excitement brought her more than halfway home, or so she thought.
She reached a graveyard eventually. She didn't recall a graveyard by her house. Was this the rich area? She couldn't put a finger on where she was, or how she got there. Her mind had to be playing tricks on her.
"Hello?" She called out, as if to expect somebody there to answer back.
This was getting creepy.
As her little hands pushed the bag forward, she looked up at the moon.
It seemed as if a shadow was moving in it, like the shadow of a candle flickering almost. But it had a... Face?
Barrel called for his mother immediately after he came through the door. He couldn't wait to see the jolly look on her face once she saw all the candy he collected: "Mom? I'm home! What about all this candy? It isn't gonna eat itself!!!" No answer. Usually his mother would come to the door right away. "Mom? Come here before I eat all this candy on you!" He checked all the rooms in the house for his mother, but no such luck.
His mom never went anywhere. This was weird.
Somehow, Barrel had a weird feeling he couldn't shake off. He licked his lollipop nervously.
That did it for Lock. It was 2:47 AM and he stayed up long enough to make his eyes watery. In any situation, he didn't care about his parents. But tonight he was mistaken. He wanted them back, wherever they were. He got up out of bed and looked out his huge window. There were no more stars in the sky, and the moon looked... Strange. As if a candle was flickering inside it. He swore he could've made out a face in the craters, something.
But he just cared about finding his parents at the moment. He left his room and searched every nook and cranny in the mansion. They weren't there.
Maybe they had gone for a nightly stroll? It wasn't that possible this late, but it was worth a shot to look.
He ran out the front door of his house, not caring to close it from behind.
"Mom! Dad! It's me, Lock!!! Hello!?" he yelled as loud as he could, but the only response he got was from a crow that cawed.
He charged forward, only having the moon, which was shadowing creepily, to guide him.
Shock had no idea exactly where she was at this point.
All she knew was that she was still in the graveyard, pulling the trick or treat bag. Her mind was no longer wide awake. It was exhausted. She was going nowhere, and the graveyard seemed to stretch for miles. And all the while trying to get back home, she found it no point, for she had the eeriest feeling her parents weren't there. She somehow knew that they were lost, missing... Gone for good?
A wave of panic flooded over her when all of a sudden, some random figure ran into her from the side of the area.
"OUCH!" They both fell backward. "Watch where you're going, you idi-"
As she was rubbing her head and her vision came to focus, she saw a boy in front of her.
He was a red-head, with two locks of hair curled on either side of the top of his head.
She didn't recognize him from her neighborhood. To her this could only mean...
"You're a rich kid! Stay away from me !"
At that instant, she hid behind a cemetery stone. Lock rolled his eyes. He hated when commoners
thought rich kids were dangerous to them. He knew this girl was In fact a commoner.
"Please, don't hide from me. Come on! I don't care about this rich vs. commoner stuff." Shock peeked behind the stone a little bit.
"You don't?"
"Heh. No. I don't care about anything." He held out his hand for her to take.
Shock thought all rich kids were bullies, and obviously this was some sort of prank, but nonetheless she took his hand.
Either her mind was weak and unfocused or she was too determined on finding her parents to care.
The instant their hands touched, she received an instinctive feeling, as if meeting this boy was not all that bad.
"Nice to meet ya... I'm Lock." He said with a smile, and shook her hand gently.
"L-lock..." She started to say. "You seem nice..." She smiled back at him.
Lock had no interest in girls, especially at his age, but this was different. He had an instant connection with this girl. Plus, she was pretty good-looking for a commoner. He blushed.
"I'm Shock!" Suddenly she shook her head. "Wait a second!" She grabbed him by the shoulders. "You need to help me!"
His eyes widened at how close she was to him.
"W-what do you need help with...?"
Shock glanced up at the moon, which seemed to be getting darker by the hour.
"Listen, I lost my way home, and I'm trying to find my parents! I just know they're not at my house for some odd reason..."
"Wait, you're trying to find your parents? I'm trying to find mine!"
"Huh??"
"I checked everywhere in my mansion and they're not there! But my mom's always in my hair."
Shock grabbed the drawstring of her bag again. "Well... Wanna help find our parents together?"
Lock was always a lone wolf but felt this was an offer he couldn't pass up, so he gave her a nod and replied, "sure."
So they walked through the graveyard together, trying to search for their parents.
