Chapter 3: The NOT Bummer Summer
"Nothing like a nice rainy spring day..." Heather smiled.
"But I wish all the rain would go away." Lucy fussed.
An idea then hit BJ and he and Peppermint Patty looked at each other with the same "I Know What You're Thinking" look as they rushed up to the treehouse.
"What're they doing?" Rebecca asked.
"I have no idea." Sally replied.
"I bet it's gonna be super dee duper!" Barney added, splashing in a puddle.
"HEY GUYS, CHECK THIS OUT!" Peppermint Patty called out, holding the Summer Jar. She then placed it on the treehouse balcony.
"Rain, rain, go away. We need a sunny, summer day." BJ chanted.
"Why didn't I think of that?" Snoopy thought to himself as BJ removed the lid and Peppermint Patty held onto the jar.
The playground was then transformed into a nice, hot summer day. "WOW!" the kids exclaimed.
"Here we go again!" Barney chuckled.
"Look at our clothes! We're dressed for summer." Lila smiled.
"Yes! Summer! My favorite time of year!" Peppermint Patty smirked.
"You got that right, Peppermint! There's plenty of sunshine now!" BJ smiled.
"In fact, there may be too much sunshine." Maria panted.
"Huh?" Peppermint Patty asked.
"It's really hot." Sally panted.
"Oh, I guess I didn't think about that." Peppermint Patty blushed.
"And the sun is so bright, it sort of hurts my eyes." Rebecca said.
"Barney, is my nose getting sun burnt?" Charlie Brown asked. "It's kind of hard for me to see."
"Oh, I don't think so, Charlie Brown. But just to be safe, I got something that'll keep the sunshine out of your eyes, off your heads, and off your noses. Just let me look in my closet." Barney smiled, rummaging through his 'closet'.
"Here we are..." and Barney pulled out a sombrero.
"TADA!" Snoopy declared.
"HATS!" Barney translated.
"Hats? " the kids all looked confused.
"These are nice summer hats to help keep the warm sun off our faces." Barney explained.
"Barney, we already have our hats." Peppermint Patty reminded, adjusting her cap.
"And we all can't use just one hat." Lucy pointed out.
"I'M UP FOR IT!" Sally squealed as Barney began to throw many hats out of his closet.
"Of course you would, Captain Blondie." Lucy teased as everyone gathered their own hats, save for BJ and Peppermint Patty. "Say Barney, are you sure this is a summer hat? It seems more like a cowgirl hat! YEE HAW!"
"My hat is something a sailor would wear! YO HO!" Linus smiled.
"Look at me, I'm a princess!" Tosha giggled.
"May I have a hat, Barney?" asked a smiling Lila.
"I think I can...cook something up!" Barney joked, placing a very large chef's hat on Lila's head.
"Hey, it really is a cook's hat!" Lila giggled.
"And now that I got a hat..." Barney said.
"And we got ours..." BJ and Peppermint Patty smirked.
"...we're ready for some silly time in the sun!" Barney smiled as Snoopy laughed.
Barney:
Oh, a silly hat. A silly hat.
I wear it on my head because that's where it's at.
And I know it looks as funny as can be.
Oh, a silly hat. A silly hat.
I wear it on my head because that's where it's at.
And I like it 'cause it feels like part of me.
Barney, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
It may be too big or it may be too little.
It might even have a hole in the middle.
And it might be colored red or blue or green.
And if someone saw my silly hat,
That I had on my head because that's where it's at.
They'd think it was the funniest thing they'd seen.

"Sometimes I feel like my baseball cap is part of me." BJ smiled. "Sometimes I even wear it to bed, in case I dream about playing baseball."
"But BJ, you don't have to dream it! Since it's summer, we can really play baseball!" Charlie Brown smiled.
"We got some baseball stuff in the classroom!" Maria smiled.
"Let's go get it!" Peppermint Patty smirked.
"And Snoopy and I will get things ready out here." Barney said as Snoopy danced around. "That's right, Snoopy. We're really gonna have some summer fun, now!" he added as they both checked the closet.
A few minutes later, everything was ready.
"Ladies and gentlemen, announcing Snoopy's Super Dee Duper Sluggers!" Barney announced into a microphone as some birds clapped.
"We actually get to play baseball! I'm so excited!" Lila jumped for joy.
"You're gonna love it." Tosha reassured.
"It's a lot of fun!" Shawn added.
"I just HOPE I don't play right field..." Lucy crossed her fingers.
"Introducing homerun Lila!" Barney announced. Lila blushed with pride as she took her place. "Next up, shortstop Shawn! And next, the musically brilliant Schroeder!"
"I like that description." Schroeder smiled as he took his place.
"And now, introducing the fast and clever, Linus Van Pelt! Next up, the marvelous Maria! And next, the terrific Tosha! And up next, the happy Heather! Next is the best captain and pitcher, Charlie Brown!"
"That's me!" Charlie Brown smiled as he took his place.
"Last but not least, the peppy Peppermint Patty and boom boom BJ!" Barney announced. "And now ladies and gents, let's play ball!"
"I hope you all brought your shades, because I'm bringing the heat!" Peppermint Patty smirked as they started playing.
Barney, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
Summer is the time of year.
Baseball! Baseball!
The hometown crowd will clap and cheer.
What a baseball day!
BJ:
Grab your bat and get your glove.
Baseball! Baseball!
Peppermint Patty:
The sky is blue way up above.
What a baseball day!
Barney, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
The sun is shining bright.
We can't wait to play
The summer game we really love.
What a baseball day!
"Now this is a much better position." Lucy smiled, being cheerleader with Sally.
"YOU'RE DOING GREAT, LINUS!" Sally called out.
Charlie Brown:
Here comes the pitch,
Just watch it curve
Baseball! Baseball!
Heather:
Watch it spin and watch it swerve
What a baseball day!
Peppermint Patty:
Swing the bat,
It's so much fun!
Baseball! Baseball!
BJ:
Around the bases
I will run
What a baseball day!
Barney, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang (Snoopy):
The sun is shining bright.
We can't wait to play
The summer game we really love.
What a baseball day!
The sun is shining bright.
We can't wait to play
It's a game we really love.
"It's a high flying fly ball!" Barney declared.
"It's headed for the treehouse!" Sally gasped.
"I'll get it!" Tosha exclaimed, running up the treehouse stairs and catching the ball.
Lucy smiled "I could've NEVER caught that fly ball! Even if I tried!"
"That's why they call me Terrific Tosha." Tosha joked.
What a baseball day!
(Wooo hooooooo!)
