The memory of picking up the palisman and it crumbling into dust in his hands burned in his head. He couldn't shake off the feeling. How could he been so stupid? These palismen were living breathing creatures! And yet he gave Belos palismen in their staff form which he broke and sucked their life force until they looked like dried up corpses and withered into dust.

Hunter sat up and shook his head to clear it. He rubbed his tired eyes before opening them. King yelped as he flung forward.

"Hey!" he yelled.

"Sorry," Hunter apologized as he placed the demon on his lap.

King instantly went back to sleep as if he hadn't been disturbed. The grimwalker laid back down and placed Flapjack on his chest for comfort. The cardinal chirped in surprise but nestled against his chest for warmth. Feeling secured and satisfied Hunter closed his eyes and matched his breathing with his two roommates.

Hunter instinctively woke up at the crack of dawn and looked at both the demon and the palisman who were still fast asleep. He stretched his limbs as a yawn escaped from him. Rubbing his eyes to see clearly, Hunter opened them only to realize that he was lying on the couch inside a house. He looked at Flapjack who was lying on his chest and carefully placed him on his lap so as to not disturb the bird's rest.

As soon as he asked himself what he was doing at the owl house the memory of nearly getting buried alive gave him a stinging slap in the face. Suddenly his anxiety began to rise as he remembered why he was at the owl house in the first place. Seeing the masks of the previous Golden Guards, the look of contempt his uncle gave him as he and Luz rushed passed him, the fact that he was trying to wipe out all life in the Boiling Isle and he willingly helped him at that.

He didn't know which one was worse, that he and Luz unwittingly helped a witch hunter commit genocide or the fact that his uncle knows that he and Luz were snooping around in his memories. And while the latter didn't sound too bad his uncle could send out coven scouts to either kill him or bring him back to his uncle so he himself could do the deed.

"Oh man, Gus, Willow, and Amity are going to hate me for life. I can't tell them."

"Tell them what?" Luz asked as she came out of her room.

Hunter pulled the blanket over his shoulder as he laid back down. "What are you doing up?"

"Getting a drink, but what can't you tell them? And who is 'them'?"

"The Hexside Squad and I don't want them to know."

"You don't want them to know what?"

"That I'm a... clone of someone... who was once a witch hunter."

Luz sat down next to him as he sat up and rubbed his arms to soothe himself.

"Please keep this between us, I don't want the others to know."

"I'm sure they'll understand," Luz countered.

Irritation struck Hunter as he glared at her. Did she not understand what was going to happen? "Belos is planning to wipe out all witches that are from here. Keep in mind that Caleb was also a witch hunter before he fell in love with Evelyn."

Luz put a hand on his shoulder. "But you're not Caleb."

"I'm a clone Luz. I still have a connection to him even though I'm not him."

"They'll understand that it wasn't in your control."

"I don't want any of them to know. Even if they did find out that I'm a grimwalker that's a clone of Caleb, they're still going to resent the fact that I was once a witch hunter. And falling in love with a witch doesn't make it better because they'll probably think he was using her and that's going to reflect on me."

"But they don't know that you're a clone."

Hunter furrowed his eyebrows as he looked in Luz's eyes.

"You're safe with us Hunter," Luz assured gently. "Eda won't let anyone hurt us."

"I hope you're right."

A few hours later Eda came out of her room yawning and stretching. The sunlight made her hair shine white as she stepped into the living room. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and when she opened them her heart melted.

Hunter was lying on his back with Luz lying on his stomach. His arms were resting on her back as soft snores escaped his mouth. Luz shifted her head on his chest and he gently placed his hand on it. Flapjack was perched on the arm of the couch and tweeted at Eda.

"Good morning palisman," Eda replied.

Flapjack tweeted again. Hooty stretched through the window.

"He says his name is Flapjack," the owl tube translated.

"Well, good morning Flapjack," Eda corrected.

The witch took out her scroll and took a quick picture before going to the kitchen to fix the kids something to eat.

Luz stirred out of her sleep as the smell of breakfast hit her nose.

"Good morning sleeping beauty," King teased from the kitchen table.

As Luz rubbed her eyes she questioned why she felt an arm on her back until she looked at who she was laying on. She facepalmed upon remembering that she offered to sleep with him. Luz gently moved his arm and climbed off of him. She covered him up with the blanket and went in the kitchen to get something to eat.

"Good morning King, Flapjack, and Eda," she greeted as she stretched her muscles.

"Is that blonde kid going to join us?" King asked.

"Looking at those eye bags I'd say let him sleep for a while," Eda replied.

A few minutes later Hunter woke up with a start. "Oh no, I overslept."

Upon hearing his voice Luz called out to him. "Hey Hunter, your food's getting cold."

Hunter went into the kitchen where the three residents were busy eating. Eda took notice that he was bowing on one knee and was facing her in particular.

"Thank you for giving me shelter and for feeding me," he said sincerely.

"Okay blondie but you better hurry up before King takes your share," Eda teased.

Hunter sat down beside Luz and began to eat. When they finished Eda took the dishes into the kitchen sink.

"Do you need me to wash them?" Hunter asked.

"You can help by keeping Luz and King occupied."

Hunter obeyed although he didn't know how to keep a hyperactive fourteen year old occupied while Eda cleaned up. Luz was in the living room playing with King. Just as Hunter was about to walk over a raven bashed into the window startling everyone.

"Hooty open the door," Eda commanded.

Hooty did what he was told and the raven flew over to Eda.

"Edalyn!" the caller yelled frantically.

"Lily?" Eda asked in confusion. "What's the matter? Why are you scared?"

"I'm going to share this with you on your penstagram account."

Eda took out her scroll and looked at the screen. On it was a video of Emperor Belos on his throne. Hunter, King, and Luz sat down on the couch and stared at the scroll as Eda pressed play.

"Greetings, citizens of the Boiling Isles. I come to you for assistance. My nephew is missing somewhere in these woods and hasn't come back-"

Hunter got off the couch and scurried to Luz's room before closing the door. Eda focused her attention on the raven.

"He's sending coven scouts all over the Boiling Isles to find him and drag him back to the Emperor's Coven," Lilith explained.

Eda felt like her heart was torn out of her chest.

"Lily, why are you calling me about this?"

"I'm not with the emperor anymore remember?"

"But why are you calling me specifically?"

"I'll come over there later on today and explain."

While Eda was busy chatting with Lilith, Luz went upstairs to retrieve Hunter. She checked her room first. No one was there. She closed the door and went over to Eda's room. Hunter was sitting in the nest clenching his chest as he struggled to breathe.

Luz went back to the living room. "Flapjack!"

The palisman flew up to her.

"Do you think you can calm Hunter down? He's in Eda's room."

Flapjack flew into the room as fast as he could. By the time he got to the room the grimwalker was lying in the nest with a fist on his chest. He tweeted at his witch but Hunter was so focused on trying to breathe that he couldn't hear him. Flapjack perched on his shoulder and pressed himself against his cheek.

It took a minute for Hunter to regain his breath and for his heart to beat normally. He gave the palisman a pat on the head. Flapjack tweeted at him worriedly.

"I'm not fine Flap," Hunter replied. "Belos is looking for me and is out for my blood. My whole life was a lie. I'm a copy of a witch hunter and I also helped with his plan to wipe out all witches."

Flapjack tweeted again.

"Luz has something she wants to tell me?"

Flapjack nodded and flew off of his shoulder. Hunter got up and followed Flapjack into the living room. Luz and King looked at him sympathetically.

"We're not going to turn you over," she said gently.

"Yeah you're part of the Bad Girls Coven now!" King laughed excitedly.

"But I already have a coven brand," Hunter countered showing them his wrist.

"You're still a member whether you like it or not," King demanded.

"Okay kids we're going to have a visitor," Eda cut in. "And Hunter please try not to freak out when you see her."

Hunter eyed her suspiciously.

"When you see her you'll see what I'm talking about."

"Lulu," Hooty yelled in enthusiasm as he wrapped around her.

"Nice to see you Hootsifer," Lilith greeted.

Eda cleared her throat at them. Hooty released his grip on Lilith and slithered his body back into the door. Eda's face was grave unlike her usual playful demeanor.

"I never seen you this serious since the day I held your daughter hostage," Lilith noticed.

Eda glared at her sister for bringing up that day she nearly got her surrogate daughter killed and succumbing to her curse.

"Come in and try not to freak him out or show any type of hostility."

Lilith followed her sister into the living room where Luz, King, and Hunter were lounging. Eda went over to Hunter and placed a hand on his shoulder. The grimwalker flinched upon contact then drew his gaze from the crystal ball to the owner of the hand.

"Before you feel betrayed I just want you to know that she's not a part of the coven anymore and is here to help you, understand?"

Hunter nodded at the witch. Eda gestured at the hallway and Lilith revealed herself to them.

"Are you sure she's not going to take me back?" Hunter asked as he got in a fighting stance, brandishing his palisman.

"She deflected way before you did kid," Eda assured him.

Hunter let down his guard a bit but still brandished his staff at Lilith.

"If I take you with me to get you some new clothes so you can disguise yourself will that get you to trust me?" Lilith asked.

Hunter shook his head as he charged Flapjack up to attack. He twisted his head back as soon as he felt a hand on his shoulder. Luz was pleading him with her eyes.

"I know you're terrified but please let us help you. We're not going to let anyone take you back to Belos."

Hunter shifted his gaze from Luz to Lilith. He stopped the attack and faced Luz with narrowed eyes.

"I still don't trust her."

"Would it make you feel better if I come with you?" Luz sighed.

"Maybe," he replied as he narrowed his eyes at Lilith.
