How to Speak Manglish
。。。
Dear readers, it's very simple. Even additional lah is already counted as Manglish. What is Manglish? Manglish is short for Malaysian English, yes, where the infamous Malaysian slang came to use and it's something that makes England...um, how do you say it? Breathe fire like a dragon?
Anyway, Feliciano, while walking or rather skipping down the hallways merrily with his usual happy smile planted on his face. Yes, the loveable Italian who loves pasta and cute girls. This time, our favourite Italian is looking for something to do, maybe looking for his German friend, Ludwig? Speaking of Ludwig, the muscled blonde student is lecturing his Gilbert probably something about playing Roderich's piano again just a few meters away. He was about to call out to his friend when he heard a voice from one of the unused classrooms.
"Now class, let's begin our Manglish lessons, shall we?" a female student said, a smirk well seen on her face.
Feliciano, out of curiosity, decides to take a peek inside of the classroom while wondering what Manglish is. However, there is one thought or rather a question lingering in his head.
'Where are the students here?' he wondered.
Students, well, a very good question Feliciano. At the moment, her only students are merely drawings, posters and stuff animals. Somehow, you'll just want to pretend that you didn't see anything and just walk away but unfortunately, Italy's curiosity is kind of overwhelming.
"Manglish or Malaysian English is another type of English that Malaysians often speak, either consciously or unconsciously. It is addicting to Malaysians and even if they try their hardest no to speak Manglish, a slip of a single 'lah' at the end of every sentence gives it away." the student or Maya (Malaysia) explained, a little dramatic at the end accompanied by clenching of her right fist.
Feliciano tilted his head in confusion. 'Lah? At the end of every sentence?'
"Example of using 'lah' is 'Crazy lah' or 'Noisy lah' or 'Good lah'. Single words, alone with the addition of 'lah' is already counted as Manglish. Fear not class, Manglish is not a difficult language to learn if you are able to converse in English. Just add a simple 'lah' will be sufficient...for elementary level." her voice kind of drips with sarcasm when she said those last three words.
Maya slammed her hand against the blackboard, causing Feliciano to flinched and nearly squeaked in alarm which surprisingly, he managed to hold it in.
"People! Simple 'lah' is not enough if you want to advance to another level!" Maya scolded, slamming her hand again to the blackboard.
She turns around and grabs a chalk, writing something on the blackboard. Tapping the chalk against the huge words scribbled on the blackboard. Her eyes glazing with determination or something close to that.
"Baby steps class! Adding only a 'lah' is merely elementary! Something so simple would not pass off as Manglish alone anymore! What you need class, is a more advanced level of Manglish or rather direct translation. Learn some Malay words! Combine them with English! Mix it up! I'll give you a few examples."
Maya scribbled something again on the blackboard. She whirled around, flashing her 'students' a confident smirk.
"U wanna play play ah? Go lah to playground to play play lah! Aiyoh, why so much trouble for this? No time lah so busy u know."
The whole sentence means, "Do you want to play? Go to the playground to play! Why bother yourself with this? I had no time as I am busy at the moment."
Another example.
"I suka someone or not is not your business lah! Why so kepo? U know y I suka him? Because I so cinta him a lot!"
T/N: Whoever I like is none of your business! Why are you such a busybody? Do you know why I like him? Because I love him so much!
"Friend with me can? We go cafe hang out."
T/N: Do you want to be friends with me? We can hang out at the cafe.
"Remember some Malay words class, this will help boost your Manglish to a new level. To do so...please get this book from me if you are so eager to learn."
...
"Ve~, Ludwig, let's jalan-jalan together!" were the words that sprang out from the Italian's mouth.
Ludwig froze, turned around and gave Feliciano a confused look. It really doesn't help that some others were staring at Feliciano as if he had grown two heads or something. The others are helping out at the student council office when Feliciano decides to enter and speak in some language that is...confusing despite having some English words to it.
"Feliciano? What are you-?"
"Let's jalan-jalan together and makan lots of pasta! Kiku, u also, let's makan lunch!"
Kiku blinked. Jalan-jalan? Makan? Somehow it sounds awfully familiar to him. The language rang a bell somewhere but he couldn't quite remember where he heard it from...
Arthur, who had been checking some documents, glared at the Italian student. How dare he ruin the English language? He had a feeling that a certain someone was involved. Michelle (Seychelles), Elizabeta and Francis choose to edge away further from the English student as a menacing aura starts seeping out.
"Feliciano, what are you talking about? I can't understand what you're trying to say."
"Ve~, I'm speaking Manglish~."
"Man-what?"
Arthur's eyebrow twitched at the mention of the language. The menacing aura had increased and the occupants of the room...well, they made up an excuse before fleeing from the scene leaving two (Feliciano and Ludwig) behind. Feliciano, who seemed oblivious at the situation first, started noticing the evil and murderous aura, instantly hides behind the German.
"Why that little brat..." he growled.
Somewhere in the academy, Maya is laughing haughtily with a Singaporean student giving her a weird look.
oo End oo
A/N: That's all for now. Stay tune for more!
