On one fine day, Singapore enters the cafe. She sighs as she slumps onto a seat in a cafe, rubbing her throbbing forehead. The owner, Spain greeted the Singaporean. "Hello there senorita." Singapore replies with lifting a hand as a greeting, too tired to even speak.

"You look like you had a hard time senorita." Spain said, placing a mug of hot coffee in front of her.

Only a groan Spain received as a reply from Singapore. "Would you like to talk about it senorita? It's not good to keep it in."

The young woman merely sighs. "I don't even know where to start."

Malaysia-kun's Otaku Side

by Singapore

...

My brother, as you all know, is Malaysia. He's, how do you say, like a gentleman at times but he's mostly a boy that enjoys running around and getting himself into football. Before he was introduced to anime, he would usually play football or sepak takraw or badminton with the others.

He's obsessed with games that Japan-nii gave or lend in some cases. That is why I won't be surprised if I happened to walk upon my brother and Japan-nii playing video games only to result in Japan-nii's complete victory over him. He had a slight fighting chance with Hong Kong and Korea though.

Malaysia would always show off his game collection or how he managed to get through the toughest levels in the games such as LoZ, Marrior something like that? I never played much games since I was busy with paperwork and only to have rest during weekends and I do want to have a good rest during the weekends. I treasured day offs very much thank you. At times I just went to visit my brother or maybe just Johor for a small talk.

However the moment he was introduced to moe, that's when it begins. He has his otaku moments that kind of turn me off especially when it comes to moe! Cute girls! Well, he has not gone that far like Tokyo did, I swear I wanna forget what I saw there.

He's playing the one with the Japanese battle ships. Of course, he had his emotional moments when playing the game. There's also one more he became obsessed with and has set up fanclubs in FB. Love Liv, when I talk about it to Malaysia, his eyes glitter like no tomorrow and suggest me tons of songs that I MUST listen and he kept on going about Umi, Maki, Nico and so on. He did also mention that he would like one of them as his 'waifu' and 'laifu'. I have to admit my brother is really scary at that time.

One time I have to pry him off from a guy who claims that some other girl is better and that his 'waifu' is no good. I swear that guy is asking for a death wish. My brother is strong, since he's a nation, stronger than I'll ever be despite being a develop nation. Till now, every time he sees my brother, he would worship his idol before scrambling away. Despite worshipping those idols like they were his goddess, he cares for me like a sister. I didn't missed the deadliest glare he sent to some random guy who attempts to flirt. My brother gave a very sweet smile that promises pain and death to the guy as he walk off with the guy. I never saw that guy afterwards. After that he gives me lectures on not to go near to those kind of guys. It's not like i'm interested in them anyways.

Spain laughs. "You're really lucky to have a brother like that senorita."

Singapore did not reply, instead she drank her coffee. As she takes her sip of her coffee, someone barges into the cafe with a look that clearly states he just won a lottery or something. Slightly messy black hair, brown eyes and skin and wearing a baju Melayu. In his hands were paper bags with rolled up posters, manga and games.

"Pur! There you are! Come help me carry these!"

Singapore sighs as she stood up paying for her coffee before walking towards her brother. "Aiyah, why a lot? Don't tell me you buy all of those stuff!"

Malaysia frowns at his sister. "No lah, Tokyo was generous enough to lend me some of his manga and games. I bought the posters only."

The Singaporean woman shook her head as she helps carry some manga and games as they walk out of the cafe.

Spain takes the cup and the saucer from the table while looking at the interaction between the two nations. Outside of the cafe, Malaysia was showing Singapore his new Love Liv poster he got from Japan while Singapore just listen all the way. Spain laughs, shaking his head. "It doesn't hurt to be honest once in a while senorita."

-Merdeka Special-

Johnathan places down the book he was reading and turns to look at his friend and neighbour, Maya Salena. She keeps sighing for quite a while now and no one's is a fool enough to not believe something is bothering her. It was already the end of summer, well, almost and his friend is not even asking him out to play or anything instead she keeps staring at her hibiscus hair clip.

"What's wrong with you?" Johnathan decides to ask, already fed up from the continuous sighing of his friend.

Maya sighs again. "I missed my country. Independence day is coming soon yet I'm stuck here."

Independence day? That's why she keeps sighing all the time? Well...he did not celebrate his country's independence day but Johnathan did not paid much heed to that as his parents are always busy but they, at times, find some time for him. In Maya's case, her parents are always showering her with love during the weekends.

"Can't you ask your parents to take you back to your country?" Johnathan asked.

Maya shook her head. "Mama and Papa are busy. Their work schedules won't allow it."

Then Johnathan wondered, is there anything he could do for her? Considering that she's helping him a lot and always keeping him company when both their parents are off to work. Maybe he could pull it off but...he has no idea how is it celebrated in the first place. He sighs.

At dinner time, Johnathan is obviously in deep thought, distracted by what can he do for Maya. Of course, his actions doesn't go amiss with Arthur, who is eating his dinner (thankfully he didn't cook). Despite being so occupied in his studies, life, etc, he always eat his meals dutifully. Right now, it's strange he is picking on his food. Is the food not to his liking, Arthur wondered. But it's Yao's cooking and Johnathan enjoys his cooking a lot than Arthur (as much as he hate to admit it).

"Johnathan? Is there something wrong?" Arthur questioned, catching the small boy off guard.

"Um...it's about Maya. Her country's independence day is coming soon and...I want to do something for her." Johnathan answered, blushing a little. He swallowed his pride for this.

Arthur blinked before smiling. "Perfect timing then."

Johnathan looked up at his guardian in confusion.

"Maya's birthday is also on the same day as her country's independence day."

Thus, this is how I, Johnathan Lee, got involved in this surprise birthday planning. Well, not really planning the party but just accompanying Maya to get out of the house so the others can actually pull the strings for her surprise birthday party. We head to the local playground and met some new friends, or at least try to. Some kids that tried to make fun of Maya before because she's different earn themselves a beating from Maya. Their parents came to the house to apologize for their kids' behaviours while Maya also apologizes for beating them up.

"What should we do today?" Maya wondered out loud, walking ahead of me.

I merely look around, waiting for Maya to plan whatever we are going to do today until we return later in the afternoon or evening. While looking around, I never notice that there was someone in front of me. Of course, the boy in front is also distracted with other stuff. Yes, you got it, we both bumped into each other and landed on our butts.

"Johnathan are you okay?" Maya immediately heads over to my side to check for injuries.

"Yeah." I replied as I turn to look at the boy who fell. The first thing I noticed about him is his slightly thick eyebrows and that he's Asian. His brown orbs stare straight into my soul. Somehow he looks familiar...

Then Maya shifts her attention to the boy across from me, instantly, her eyes widen in recognition. "Leon! What are you doing here?" she asks.

The boy, Leon, stood up and swept off the dusts off his pants while giving his answer "I came because my mom wants me to bring some things for Yao-gege." he said motioning to the basket lying on the ground.

Leon? As in Leon Wang? Yao-gege's younger cousin from his mother's side?

"Oh Leon, you remember Johnathan right?" Maya asks.

Leon nodded. "Fancy meeting you again."

"Same."

"Then it's decided! Let's head to where Yao-gege is~" Maya announced suddenly, smiling brightly. I paled a little, remembering that I should keep Maya away from the house until they say so. Oh great, what should I do? I secretly texted Arthur about this, hoping that he'll reply very soon. The girl next door is a very stubborn one.

"Shouldn't we let Yao-gege know that we're heading to his place?" I ask Maya.

"Don't worry, he already knows I'm coming. My mom phoned him earlier." Leon replied monotonously. I resist the urge to glare at Leon. Maybe he might not know about the party.

Just when I was having my internal batte, my phone vibrates. I quickly check, hoping that it's a text from Arthur. To my relief it is, I check the message and I nearly wanted to sigh in relief.

'We're done, let her come.'

Maya stood on tiptoes as she turns the doorknob to the door. She steps inside the dim lit room, looking around, she wondered whether the others are here or they are out.

"Where are you guys?" Maya wondered. She continues further inside but a little confused as to her nation's flag is hanging there.

Suddenly, a pop sound startled her as the others come out from their hiding spot yelling "SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

The confetti landed on Maya's head as the girl is trying to process the information in her head. Surprised, confused yet happy. Johnathan came up behind her with a small box (prepared by his parents who were hiding behind the couch) and greeted the older girl. "Happy birthday orSelamat Hari Jadiin your language."

Maya couldn't suppressed the tears any longer as she lets the tears roll down her cheeks while smiling widely. She turns to the others and even better, her parents just got themselves a few days off from work to celebrate her birthday. Johnathan had to admit, Maya's mother is really pretty, wait, beautiful. Mature looking and graceful.

"Now, now aru, a birthday girl shouldn't be crying on her special day." Yao said, coming out of the kitchen with all kinds of delicious food. Johnathan nearly drool over them. Behind Yao is Kiku holding the cake. Thankfully those two are cooking or Johnathan and maybe a few others might not live to see the next sunrise.

Maya wipes her tears with her hand as she smiles, nodding before proceeding to head to the table where her birthday cake is waiting. As she made her wish, the only sound that is present is actually a shout of 'Merdeka' by a man. As the man shouted for the seventh time, Maya blew the candles. Johnathan meanwhile was distracted with the word 'merdeka', not understanding the word and also its importance. Maya's mother notices this and explain softly "Merdekameans independence in our language but then again, it is also your language. The man who shouted that was our first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman who help our nation become independent however that time only Malaya is independent."

"Malaya?"

Maya's mother nodded. "Malaysia was only formed when Sabah and Sarawak joined the Federation of Malaya and Singapore as well but they separated two years later."

"But," Johnathan began "that means Malaysia got two birthdays. Why celebrate two?"

"Hmm because both are important. Without Malaya's independence, there will be no Federation of Malaya and without Sabah and Sarawak, there's no Malaysia as well. Why celebrate one birthday when you have two important birthdays that remind you of who you are today?"

Johnathan nodded slightly. "I guess that makes sense..."

"Oi, oi, now isn't the time for history lesson." Maya's father teased, earning a glare from his wife.

Two important birthdays that remind who you are today...Johnathan watches the birthday girl ripping open the presents in lightning speed, a look of anticipation on her face.

The debate over this...Johnathan shook his head, not wanting to think more about it. Every day is important, it proves you are alive and breathing and that you are safe.

~END~

Classes start on Monday *sobs*. Five days a week with two lecturers that have tough assignments and homework all in my semester 2. I better learn from Naruto the Shadow Clone Jutsu to make duplicates of myself to finish fanfics faster or maybe be like Koro-sensei.

Oh yes, Maya's mother is actually Langkasuka while the father...I'll leave that to your imagination~

But recent issues ruin my mood to write FDM. Every time I open FB, always those foolish statements, bad news about Malaysia that makes me lose my motivation to write FDM. I'm angry but I can't do much and that is frustrating. Not to mention stuff happened and I lost my mood and motivation for a while. I want to write but things kept dragging me down. I hate it. I love my country but I hate the people ruin the country. Not to mention, I need to head back to the Philippines to visit my family but with the currency, how can I go back? I'll be bankrupt and barely able to make ends meet. Anyway, I might publish more often in DA but in FFN, probably ASEAN Way since my mood is ruined thanks to idiots and foolish stuff. My car broke down, TV broke down. I'm thankful this laptop is still functioning but I need to get a new PC, my assignments...everything involves money. Pity that someone won't share his 2.6 with me.
