I took another breath, waiting for the particularly loud flurry of bangs to subside. I could tell by the sounds and the colors that the fireworks were soon nearing an end. He waited patiently for the sound to dim, tapping his leg anxiously. I found a moment to speak in between the loud cluster of sounds.
"After careful thought for this brief period of time, I have concluded that maybe it wouldn't be bad to at the very least give it a try." I said, still rather formally and watched as his eyes widened slightly and a grin spread across his face.
"Really Kankbro?!" he said, obvious surprise in his voice.
"Yes, really. I don't really think it'd be appropriate to joke in such a situation as this. I do have a few conditions, however."
"Oh, what all up and are they then?"
"For one, this is a sort of trial run, so we keep this at my pace. My other is more of a suggestion that we don't really inform others of this until its decided how this is going to go and if we stick with it."
"I can motherfucking do that no problem. Yeah, we should probably keep this kinda like a motherfucking secret for a little bit rather than get it all up and out there."
"Good, I'm glad we both agree. So, I guess that means my answer is a yes for now."
I couldn't help but smile in return to his wide grin. I swear if he tried to smile much more he might get his face stuck like that. I thought to myself quietly as the sounds of the fireworks started to die down. I felt rather positive about this for some reason. I think this was the right choice. Soon, my thought process was interrupted by Gamzee saying something I half missed.
"I'm sorry, what was that?"
"I was just um, asking if I could, well motherfucking kiss you again? If that would be alright."
"Well, I guess that would be alright." I said with a slight smile.
He returned the smile, closed his eyes, and excitedly leaned over to me. His attempt was ruined by his own clumsiness, as instead of actually managing to kiss me, he bumped our noses together. At the sudden light collision he jerked his head back slightly and blinked, saying something in surprise that sounded along the lines of 'honk' as ridiculous as that is. I chuckled slightly as I noticed the little smudge in his face paint on his nose. He soon smiled and chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck slightly. I leaned in and kissed him lightly for a moment.
He just quickly adjusted and kissed back. After a good moment I pulled away. He had one of his trademark ridiculous grins spread across his face yet again. I smiled back slightly then gazed back at the sky. The smoke from the finally of the fireworks was drifting off into the night sky. Now the only light illuminating the night was the seemingly endless expanse of stars. In moments like this I cant help, but wonder what else could be out there. I leave my thoughts at that and turn back to the messy haired clownish boy next to me. I smile slightly as I find he had been doing the same this I was, watching the night sky.
We sat there chatting lightly for a little while before the time stuck me again. Oh goodness, how late was it now? I had to get home. I still had some work to do on a project for my college literature class and I cant help but worry about Karkat home by himself.
"Gamzee, this was fun, but I need to head home now. It seems to be rather late." I said, standing up and picking up the stuffed crab.
"Wait" he says and lightly grabs my hand as I was turning to walk off ", let me walk you back Kankbro."
"Oh, alright, if you'd like to."
"Of course. Lets get motherfucking goin."
We then set off after he disposed of the paper roll that once held his cotton candy. He still had yet to release the loose grasp he had on my hand. I smiled slightly as I worked my fingers between his, intertwining our fingers. I saw him smile out of the corner of my eye. We walked on in what was far from silence as I spoke and he occasionally put in his input on really nothing in particular. I think this is more about respecting the others presence than actual necessary conversing. That thought makes me unable to resist a smile as I continue.
After a while the apartment building that held the decent sized a apartment that Karkat and I call home came into view. In what felt like a second we were at the door to my apartment. I sighed lightly as he let go of my hand. I smiled up at him slightly. He smiled back and offered a hug, which I gladly accepted. As we broke apart from the hug, a question resounded in my head yet again.
"Hey Gamzee, can I ask you something?" I said, catching his attention.
"Oh, sure Kankbro, what is it?"
"Well, I was just kind of wondering...Was this... a date?"
"Oh, well I was kinda motherfucking hoping it would be, but I guess its how ever you wanna all up and take it." he said with a small smile.
"In that case, this was a lovely first date."
He smiled at me and I at him before I pushed myself up slightly on my toes to lightly kiss him again. After just a second I wish him a good evening and unlock my door, sliding inside. He waves goodbye and begins to walk away as I shut the door. I lean into the door and accidentally close it harder than I intended. I couldn't bring myself to care about any disturbance I could have caused, my mind was miles away from me. I made my way slowly over to the couch and allowed myself to drop down onto it as I thought.
I smiled slightly as I flipped the stuffed crab around in my hands. I am absolutely dumbfounded that all this managed to happen over such a short span. What time was it anyway? I glanced at the cable box below my television and read the green numbers. It's nearly midnight. I should really get a shower and head to bed. I took a breath and was about to stand when suddenly the lights clicked on in the previously lamp lit living room I was resting in. I instinctively froze.
