Scars

Summary: Luna sees Hermione's scars for the first time. She thinks of how beautiful they make her look.

The first time Luna sees them is after the battle of Hogwarts. Don't get her wrong Luna knew that they existed, after all she had been at Malfoy manor and had heard Bellatrix's mad laughter and Hermione's screams. It wasn't like Luna didn't have her own scars from the war, everyone did. It was just that she hadn't seen Hermione's scars, she had taken great care in keeping them covered form everyone's eyes including her own.

But as Hermione worked diligently in the hospital wing providing help to those she could, she had forgotten about them. Her sleeves were rolled up to her elbows as she healed a cut on a boy's cheek.

They were pale and numberless. Spanning over her pale skin in a web of even paler lines. Luna thought they resembled cracks in a piece of fine china traveling hidden paths under her sleeve.

Her forearm was wrapped in a large bandage already dyed red with blood. Covering that hateful word that Luna knew would never heal, not really. She had experienced Bellatrix's knife herself. But the scars that span Hermione's skin are different and Luna remembers Harry and Ron mentioned a chandelier dropping on top of her.

Her fingers clench, her nails cutting into the soft skin of her palms causing blood to leak out. Silently she seethes the monster who caused this to her friend, but a small voice in the back of her head whispers how beautiful the scars make her.

Hermione finishes healing the boy and notices Luna gaze on her. She looks at the girl seeing the clenched fists and small rivets of blood coming from her palms. She walks over and gently uncurls the younger girl's hands and with quick precise movements heals the cuts. Luna is looking at her with some hidden emotion that causes Hermione to smile, really smile in what feels like forever.

Luna smiles back and silently promises that she will show Hermione how beautiful she is, even if it takes the rest of her life.
