-Start Chapter-
The team's feet touched the ground of the island that Baymax had sensed the masked man at. Their landing spot was a concrete slab that sat in between a set of docks and a chain link fence that was partially knocked down. While farther inland was a cement building with a large rolling door that was built into a small mountain.
Once everyone had disembarked from their red armored transport, they gathered around for one final pep talk and to make sure that everyone knew what the plan going forward was. Most importantly that everyone should try and get Yokai's mask, where Hiro was sure the neural transmitter that controlled the microbots was located. Unfortunately that was all their plan consisted of, leaving the individual members of the impromptu team to fight how they each saw fit. Something in the back of Naruto's amnesia addled mind told him this was a disaster just waiting to happen. Almost like a past experience was trying to remind him of something.
Moving toward the abandoned structure the team shuddered as the unkempt look of the place made the feeling of danger that reeked from the island all the more real, and the quarantine sign hanging on the half broken fence had the green hero in a panic. Eventually they had found a door, in the side of the cement building, that was just to small for Baymax to squeeze through. Thankfully Wasabi was able to work out some of his agitation by enlarging the entryway, thanks to his new plasma swords.
As everyone climbed through the new hole and began walking through the dark hallways most of the team became quiet as they moved deeper into the building. Fred being the obvious exception as he bobbed around and tried to compose a theme song for when the rest of the group accepted his Fred's Angels idea. An attempt that quickly grew on the nerves of their already stressed out neat freak.
Thankfully Honey distracted the group when she called for them to look between the doors of a partially blocked entry way. Naruto's strength made quick work of the obstruction and allowed everyone to pass into a large room filled with overturned equipment and broken walkways floating above a lower floor. Light from a hole in the ceiling illuminated thick cables and metal beams that had been twisted into grasping spirals on the level below, making the already oppressive atmosphere even heavier. However dread took over as Hiro pointed out the image painted onto one of the bent pieces of metal. A bird in mid-flight and a crescent.
While Honey noticed and directed the rest of the team to a control center on the far side of the room, Naruto stood still looking towards the mounds of curved metal. Near the back was a larger structure that looked to have been intentionally built into a hoop. Covered in dirt and soot while whining emanate from the monolith in a desire to fall apart at any moment. With every other piece of metal and wire in the room twisting towards the strange ring. As if they had been trying to claw their way towards the circle, or more likely were pulled towards it. The only outlier, and what had caught his attention, was the hole in the metal and concrete roof that was blown outward towards the sky and away from the metal contraption. Almost like something had come through it.
Before the orange hero could examine the room any more a call from Wasabi alerted the blonde to the rest of the his friends already in the control room with a bank of computer screens flickering on and off. Walking down the path and entering through a door, that Baymax must have crouched to get through, Naruto joined his friends inside.
Unlike the rest of the complex this room seemed to be lit up as the few unbroken bulbs above glowed with life. Hiro stood in front of a console near the center of the room, while GoGo was bent over in a corner tinkering with something that caused the lights to flicker every few seconds. Curious Naruto walked towards her, but made sure to stand back so the engineering student could do her work in peace. Of course the blondes view from that distance was quite nice, and distracting enough that he didn't notice the slight shake the oriental woman gave her hips when she noticed who was standing behind her.
With one final twist of a something and the slamming of an access panel, GoGo stood up and stretched before moving towards the rest of the group and explained their power situation. "If I had to guess, there's a solar array somewhere on this island to keep it off the grid so no one would know what was going on here. A pretty beefed up one if the wiring is any clue, but the panels have probably gotten covered in dirt from however long this place has been abandoned. So what juice we have now is what we're going to be working with. Unless someone wants to go find and clean the whole array." GoGo finished with a pointed look towards Wasabi, who could only give her an annoyed look but didn't deny anything.
With some trepidation Hiro turned on the bank of computers he had been looking at and prayed as the screens lit up and didn't waverf at all. A sigh escaped the group as the screen turned red and displayed the bird and crescent image before turning over to show several different views of the control center they were in as well as large room viewable through the broken windows. The static lines marked the images as actually being paused videos, and Hiro, being near the front, began to rewind everything to try and find out what happened. Eventually the video stopped on its own and began to play, probably at the start of a designated recording session.
Alistair Krei appeared on screen, causing everyone to tense, as the nicely dresses billionaire stood next to a closed door waiting for someone to enter. Soon enough the doors opened and several important looking people walked in, most of them seemed to be business executives, but one was an obvious military general.
"Hey Fred," Naruto called out while the recording of Krei gave his best salesman smile, the same one he used on Hiro at the expo hall. "Do you think this could be the military contract Krei lost out on that you mentioned back at the showcase?" The kaiju dressed boy could only give a shrug, unsure himself whether or not this was the stated incident, but he and the others were now eager to find out.
While the team had been busy with their discussion Krei and his party had moved into the large room with the bent metal, only everything was pristine and clean. However the biggest change was noticeable when the camera panned over to the far end where Naruto had seen the large ring to one side of the room, but now there were two of the giant hoops. Right next to each other.
It was here that Krei introduced what he called "Project Silent Sparrow," the two structures behind him lit up with a soft glow before a blue and purple fluid formed within the confines of the rings. A rubbery hum began to fill the area as Krei borrowed the general's hat and tossed it through one hoop, only for it to appear out of the other one next to it a few seconds later. As the mogul explained, once the hat was returned via the same method, they had finally invented instant matter teleportation, and were now ready to begin testing with a human.
The group, having returned to the command center, stood in front of the large windows that looked out over the two portals and watched as the final checks were made on a pod that was being loaded on a rail that would launch it and its pilot into the first portal. A young 20 year old woman with chestnut brown hair was overseeing the preparations before signalling everything as good and began to strip off her lab coat to reveal a white jumpsuit underneath. Fixing a helmet over her head the woman climbed into the pod and began to seal it close for its trip into, and hopefully through, another dimension.
"This is Abigail ready for launch. Since these kind people came all the way here, it would be rude if we didn't give them a show."
Krei and his guests watched from the control center as technicians observed their displays with anxious eyes. A voice from over head began to countdown while everyone waited with baited breath as the hum of the portal was drowned out by the sounds of the pods engines revving up. Once the countdown reached zero Abigail zoomed forward into the blue fluid of the first ring. A deafening silence fell over everyone as the nervous wait started.
Only instead of the pod and its pilot coming out through the other portal a column of flames shot out and began to consume the room causing the engineers to begin running. The first portal began to suck in anything that wasn't tied down. Including the wire and cabling from under the floor, causing curved masses of steel to appear under a techs feet.
Sirens blared as panic ensued when contact with Abigail was lost and the right ring became consumed by the fire bellowing forth from it. Orders were shouted as the military general demanded for the rings to be shut down, never minding that Abigail had yet to come out. With a reluctance yet determined look on his face Krei slammed his hand onto a button and the fire receded into the second portal, while the blue fluid like field of the first ring slowly faded.
With their held breathes released all present were in for a major shock as the remnants of fading energy inside the portal shot out and crashed into and then through the roof of the compound, raining rubble onto the workers below as the light of the moon filled the room. The scene came to a close as the general began yelling at Krei, cancelling any further investigation into this matter and demanding the whole facility be shut down in its entirety.
A heavy hearted Hiro stopped the video and began to think out loud, "If this was the project that the military shut down on Krei, he would obviously want to steal his own work back."
"It would explain why there's only the destroyed portal in that hanger," Honey said as she turned to confirm that indeed only the destroyed right portal was left inside the large room. All that remained of the first ring were a few of the supports that had held it upright, it would have been impossible to tell there had been two portals if the video hadn't shown both side by side. "What do you think Naruto?"
As Honey turned away from the window to look at her friend she let out a loud shriek as her fellow blonde was on the floor grasping his head and staring at the screens with unblinking eyes. The rest of the team, drawn by the yell, all turned and began to gather around the the orange clad hero, a tense silence followed as no one knew quite what to do. GoGo and Honey had fallen to their knees with hands outstretched, trying to calm the in pained man, but keeping in mind his massive strength from the periodic meditation sessions.
The the rest of the team already around Naruto were unable to find anything wrong with him, the armour clad medic bot was the only one of the group to notice that it wasn't only the team whose attention was drawn in by the pink hero's shriek. A dark shadow covered the light coming through the window, causing the robot to utter a soft grievance as black tendrils of microbots heaved a large chunk of concrete into the control center.
Dust and debris filled the air as Baymax held the large rock against his back while the functioning human members of the team got their bearings back. A quick check on Naruto to make sure he was fine, although still clutching his head and unmoving, before Hiro ran out from behind the chunk of rock to see Yokai moving away from them. A quick yell and Baymax had thrown his heavy load to one side before he rocketed through the smashed window. Only to be quickly knocked back by a ready tentacle, flinging the robot into a pile of ruble with Hiro clambering afterwards.
With Naruto still on the ground, but no longer grasping at his own helmet, and Baymax currently being unburied, this left the rest of the team without their heavy hitters. And with Fred leading the charge to try and take on the masked man by himself, the team was immediately shown to be in trouble. Fred was dispatched quickly by a single strand of microbots, slamming him into metal floor of the hanger.
GoGo and Honey fared well enough, with the athletic engineer using the curved metal to weave around the attacks from their opponent while the chemist moved around pillars into a more favorable position. Unfortunately while the two girls were staying out of eachothers way, they didn't have any form of a real plan between them. Only having the loose idea of knocking the smug looking mask off the man's hidden face.
The yellow wearing engineer would throw her disks towards the black wearing man, hoping to either knock him unconscious or take out the neural transmitter behind his mask. The less confrontational Honey Lemon had readied a capsule full of a concoction that, once exposed to air, would create a coating of ice over whatever it touched. These proved to be useful once Honey got behind their opponent and froze several of the microbots he was using to move about.
With his moving mound of robots frozen solid Yokai was forced to jump out onto solid ground where he began to attack more aggressively. And the less mobile Honey Lemon became his new target as he sent many black tendrils towards the chemist. While GoGo tried to get his attention back on her, the villain pressed his attack towards the pink wearing heroine, but instead of trying to strike her the masked man would send sweeping attacks at her legs trying to trip her up.
This strategy paid off as a stray tentacle caught her unaware, not only forcing her back but causing one of her ice capsules to fall from her grasp and land on the ground beneath her. A sheet of ice formed under her and spread over the floor, where it eventually came under GoGo. The San Fransokyo local made a good attempt at turning her magnetic wheels into ice skates, but soon found herself unable to stop as she slid towards the already downed Honey. With the blonde underneath the the more petite girl, and said engineer unable to get enough traction on the ice to stand quickly, both girls found themselves at the mercy of their opponent.
Thankfully a rather frightened, but still present, Wasabi was able to slice into a grouping of microbots and destroy them with his plasma blades, and drawing the attention of Yokai. Unfortunately with the green wearer's reactive fighting style, and his unwillingness to press an advantage, the dreadlocked man was quickly dispatched by a tendril wrapped around his foot. A swift yank and Wasabi was thrown into Fred, who had come back onto the field with a renewed vigor.
With the four heroes on the ground, their aggressor raised a large slate of microbots into the air that he positioned over the downed college students. Thankfully before the slab could be dropped on them a chunk of concrete was thrown through the majority of the block of robots, causing them to fall harmlessly to the ground. Before they began moving back and regrouped with the larger mound that had reformed around the masked villain.
Turning back to the now smashed control center everyone was greeted by the sight of Naruto standing back on his feet. While breathing hard he appeared mostly unhurt, and despite his hidden face he seemed ready for a fight. However before the two could move to meet each other in battle, a rocket powered fist crashed into the tower of mini robots that had been supporting Yokai, and caused him to sway in the air. And this was exactly what Hiro had been waiting for as he jumped off the flying Baymax and into their unstable adversary, knocking him onto the ground. While the two rolled on the ground Hiro kept his wits about him, and managed to knock Yokai's mask off.
"It's over Krei," Hiro yelled out, his young body stood triumphantly over the downed man in the black trench coat. However Hiro froze when the wizened face and gray hair of Robert Callaghan stared back at him and not Alistair Krei.
"I'm sorry Hiro, but it can't be over until I have completed my mission, and in order to do that I need you to give me that mask back," the rough voice of a man that hasn't needed to speak in a long time sounded throughout the room. The rest of the team standing around in utter shock that not only were they wrong, but how a man they had all trusted had been their worst enemy. Over the past few days he had already tried to kill them multiple times, from leaving them to drown and trying to crush them twice only a few minutes ago. It was hard for all of them.
But unlike the rest of the team Hiro couldn't have cared less about what had happened to him. His thoughts turned to his brother, laying close to dead in a bed, and it was all this man's fault. A man who he had looked up to his whole life. With his mind running at full capacity, Hiro could only process his need for answers, and the man who could answer them was standing right in front of him.
"You stole my microbots and started the fire, sentenced Tadashi to death. But what would make you do that?" Hiro yelled.
"You don't need to know that Hiro," the suppose to be dead professor said forcefully, " All that needs to happen right now is that you need stand aside so I can get that mask, and let me finish what I started," Callaghan replied back with a forced calm to his voice.
"Then why did you leave Tadashi to die in that fire? You could have protected him instead of leaving him to die slowly," Hiro screamed. Images of Tadashi laying motionless filling his mind.
"He chose to run in there and seal his own fate."
All was silent as the team stood still. The hard sound of Callaghan's boots hitting the metal floor reverberated across the room as he walked towards the mask. The slow clang of footsteps felt like a heartbeat in Hiro's mind, slowing down as the professor grew closer to the neural transmitter. Slow like Tadashi's own heartbeat. And then the beats stopped as Callaghan stood over over the mask. Hiro snapped.
"Baymax, destroy him."
The order from the young genius caused a wide range of actions from everyone present in the room. From the rest of the team freezing, to the professor stopping from picking up his disguise. The medic bot voiced a reminder that he was not capable of harming anyone. The mild protest was put to a stop as the young genius turned and removed the nurse procedure chip from Baymax's access port. Leaving the robot with nothing but the Hiro's fighting card to give any direction to the machine.
With only a violent order guiding it the automaton began to stalk towards the now scared teacher. With crimson eyes glaring from behind its visor, the once nurse bot let loose with a rocket powered fist that left a large dent in the concrete floor where Callaghan had been standing. The man having begun to run away soon after the medic chip had been removed, leaving his mask behind him for the time being. With robotic precision and a surgeon's steadiness Baymax gave chase, only thwarted in its attempt to crush the professor by the combined efforts of the team.
GoGo had used her speed to push her robot friends arm to the side causing one of the launched fists to fly wide. The engineer was swatted aside by a swinging arm for her interference, but the distraction gave enough time for the only member of the team who could match the robot in strength. With a grunt and the clang of metal being stopped by flesh, Naruto appeared in front of his friend just in time for it's rocket powered fits to return.
The orange and red armour wearers clashed against each other. Naruto holding his friend in place, while the larger Baymax towered over him. The robot tried to lift the blonde from the ground to throw him, but due to Naruto's suit he was stuck to the ground.
The still woozy Naruto felt his arms burn as his muscles strained against the loud whirring motors of his friend. The dull throb in the back of his mind was a reminder of the headache he had suffered through when he watched that strange video. Thankfully before his already strained body could give out a yellow blur came between the two of them. With the help of her momentum the petit engineer was able to shove the giant red automaton backwards and away from the golden haired boy. Giving just enough time for another blonde, this one wearing pink, to run up and push the green medic chip back into the rampaging robot's access port. With a clicking sound the red left Baymax's eyes as he began to look around at all the destruction he had caused.
With the clashing sounds of the teams medic apologizing and Hiro complaining about letting Callaghan go free, Naruto turned as the missing professor picked the discarded mask and neural transmitter off the ground. With a final look at the team the rouge roboticist summoned the loose microbots and lifted himself out through the large hole in the ceiling. With a final glance Naruto noted that the rest of the team were busy questioning Hiro on his actions, and feeling they were better equipped to deal with the raging emotions the young genius must be suffering from. Reassured that the other members of the group were going to look after each other, the orange wearing blonde jumped after the runaway teacher.
Outside the compound Naruto found Callaghan, once again in his Yokai disguise, with the microbots swirling around him as he neared a large building next to one of the docks. With the urgency of a man running, the masked villain commanded his tiny minions to tear down the chained up door, before following them inside.
It took only a few seconds for the blonde to reach the metal building, intent on getting to the professor before he could escape. Unfortunately before he could make it through the doorway, a wave of robots burst forth from the building destroying the wall and roof. Inside the rest of the microbots wrapped around and began to move some object from inside the collapsing structure. Coiled up within Hiro's stolen inventions was a small dull grey submarine being carried towards the sea.
Unsure of what the man wanted with the military vessel Naruto didn't like the feeling of letting the mad professor leave with anything that could be counted as a weapon. With a yell the blonde jumped towards the writhing black mass of microbots, and blasting through a large tentacle he landed next to the submarine. The unmoving mask that covered his face, did nothing to hide the feeling of annoyance that flowed forth from Callaghan's being.
Sending several strands of robots towards the disguised blonde the runaway professor was shocked when instead of picking up and throwing the hero, he merely stood in one place. The black mass was wrapped tightly around Naruto, who walk forward calmly. Simply letting the microbots try and throw him, and breaking the stranglehold by swiftly swinging his arm anytime they tried to squeeze him.
With the young man only a few steps away, Yokai began furiously sending blasts of microbots towards the blonde hoping to slow him down. Unfortunately for the teacher Naruto would just bat away any incoming projectiles, never stopping his march forward. With no real options left the masked man surrounded himself in microbots and lept into the ocean, dragging the apparently defunct submarine behind him.
For an entire minute Naruto stood on the dock listening to the waves lapping at the shores of the island, hoping to see or hear any sign of where Callaghan had disappeared to. Only the sound of thrusters firing broke him from his investigation as he looked behind himself and watched Hiro riding Baymax rocket through the same hole that he had followed Yokai through. Flying higher into the air the young genius and his robot soon disappeared across the skyline. Leaving Naruto and, if the lack of anyone else riding the flying robot was any indication, the rest of the newly formed team alone. With quick steps Naruto made his way back to the concrete building, curious about what had happened between Hiro and their friends while he had been gone.
Entering the large room Naruto found the rest of the team sitting around. Nearest to the him was Fred with the top of his costume off, talking on his cellphone. Honey and wasabi were next to the computer console, with most of the screens having been smashed due to the flying chunks of cement. GoGo was sitting nearby rubbing the sides of her leg, where she had landed, while slowly looking around inside one of the computer banks.
"I'm guessing Hiro wasn't happy that we let Callaghan go, by stopping Baymax from crushing him?" Naruto said as he neared the three at the computer setup.
"That would be putting it lightly," GoGo growled out from where she was sitting.
"He seemed so angry and depressed over all of this," Honey commented as she stopped typing on the keyboard she stood at.
"I don't know how I'd feel if someone I trusted put someone I loved into a coma they might never wake up from, or even survive for that matter," The green hero Wasabi said as he ducked his head in silent contemplation.
The group of students waited in silence, each trying to come to terms with what had happened. Yes, each of them were hurting at the fact that Tadashi had still shown no improvement. The doctors had all stayed with the initial assessment of three months until Tadashi passed away, and only about two weeks of that remained. And yet none of them felt they could really justify killing their old professor, even if he had been directly behind Tadashi's injuries. Thankfully the silence was soon broken by the arrival of the teams resident kaiju.
"Okay, so Heathcliff should be here in about half an hour to pick us up in the family chopper," the mascot said as he placed his helmet back on. "And while we wait can anyone tell me why the obviously evil Krei isn't the one behind the mask?"
"That's what we're going to find out here hopefully," Honey replied as her ever present smile returned, hoping to keep the teams spirits up.
With a few quick key presses one of the remaining intact screens lit up and showed the same video that the group had been watching earlier. A quick button press and the voice of the general talking down to Krei once more filled the room, before the sound of a man running down a set of stairs drowned out the rest of the noise.
With heavy footsteps, Professor Callaghan descended a set of metal steps near the back of the room, and ran towards Krei, and the now quiet general, screaming. What followed was several of the remaining scientists grabbing onto the enraged man trying to keep him away from the businessman. The roboticist's words came out as an incoherent mess of threats and curses. Yelling about how even though all of them had known of the danger yet the tests were given the greenlight any way.
Eventually the group just stopped the video of their own accord, finding nothing of value within the man's rant. And while it was quite evident that the man was angry at the billionaire, it still didn't answer why he would go to such extremes to get revenge. With no clear answer the team spread out and began to look around the rest of the ruined room.
Honey stayed near the computer, skimming through the footage to see if anything stood out, while the boys moved towards different corners of the room where different files were scattered about. GoGo on the other hand had moved towards the area that had once been the window, that let everyone view the large room where the two portals were. Or at least should have been.
"Hey guys, do any of you have any idea what Professor Callaghan was even doing in a place like this," The engineering student called out.
"When I chased him outside he took a submarine from some old building," Naruto said, a pile of old folders spread out in front of him. "I couldn't really see inside before the building was destroyed, but I think it was a drydock."
"Why would Professor Callaghan need a submarine?" Wasabi asked.
"He probably needs it to get to his secret underwater lair," Fred exclaimed as he began to wiggle the claws on his suit.
"I doubt that's what's going on nitwit," GoGo called out trying to stop the overly excitable comic lover. "Truthfully I'm more worried about the missing portal."
The petite girls statement caused everyone to stop as they looked out the window to see that only the one ruined portal remained. With the intact one from the security footage was completely gone. A few supporting struts remained, showing where it had once been, and a few loose cables attached to the wall where the power would have come from.
"Hey Honey," GoGo called out noticing the wires. "From what we saw of that portal thing, how much power do you think it would take to run it?"
The tall blonde thought for a few seconds, "If the substance inside the portal is anything like plasma it would probably take a huge burst of energy to get it started, but then would require only a constant stream of electricity to keep it operating."
"Would a submarine engine be enough to get it started then?" Naruto asked, trying to piece together whatever Callaghan might be planning.
"It would depend on the sub, but it's a definite possibility," the chemist said.
Before much else could be said, Fred gave a yell of victory as he jumped up waving a folder in the air. Thankfully before he got to excited and started using his super jump the rest of the team had made it over to him, curious as to what he had found.
The folder turned out to be a medical exam for Abigail the pilot that had been performed earlier in the day before she was set to travel into the portal. Everything checked out and she was greenlit for the test that night. And at the bottom of the page was her signature, Abigail Callaghan. The often talked about daughter of Professor Robert Callaghan, who had recently started referring to her in an ambiguous past tense.
Honey hurried back over to the computer bank, the click of her heels filling the room. Rewinding the video on the monitor it only took a minute or two before she reached the very beginning of the security footage where the chemistry major found a few seconds of her ex professor and his daughter talking outside the pod like vehicle that she would be piloting. A quick hug and some unheard words were shared between the two, as one of the techs began to walk towards them. Stopping the video and pulling out a flash drive to copy the video onto as evidence for later, Honey couldn't help but notice the date of the video as she began the transfer.
"Guys you might want to see this," the chemist said as the team gathered near her. "If this was the proper date, and all of this actually happened that night. Then the next morning would have been the day I found Naruto outside the school."
A cold silence followed as ideas and conspiracies for what possible connection there could be between this test and the mysterious appearance of the amnesiac blond. GoGo found herself hard pressed to look at her friend, to many questions running through her head. Honey Lemon felt a pit in her stomach as she thought about that day where she had just stumbled upon her friend as he laid on the ground. Even the ever excitable Fred stood around quietly, leaving Wasabi as the only member of the team to keep moving. A solemn look on his face as he began furiously shuffling through several stacks of papers.
The sound of helicopter blades churning the air filled the room, and breaking the long silence that had occupied the team. Everyone started to make their way towards the door they had first entered through, heading towards the dock where Heathcliff would have enough room to land. Wasabi stayed behind for a few extra seconds as he took a few last looks at the different folders before he ran after the rest of the group with several papers in hand.
"Hey! guys," the plasma sword wielder yelled out as they exited the concrete building, "I looked through the files on what submarines were dry docked during the test, using the date Honey found, and it turns out their was only one."
"Well that makes it easier to figure out what he plans to due with it," Naruto said. Happy for any kind of distraction from the many questions he had.
"Yeah, well I'm really freaked out about what Professor Callaghan could do with a sub that has a nuclear reactor in it," Wasabi said as he held the repair papers up to the rest of the team, who had all fallen silent again.
*break*
The sand covering the cities shore was kicked up as Heathcliff dropped the heroes off. Unable to get clearance to fly the helicopter into the city as quickly as they had hoped, the team had opted to land near the city limit and move on foot. Naruto and GoGo's speed making the travel time a non issue, but before they set off everyone decided to discuss where they should go first. The ride over had been to loud to really discuss what the plan should be, but with the down time letting them absorb the information the group felt they had a better understanding of Callaghan's scheme.
Thankfully the student's interactions with the professor meant they knew how much he worked with different power sources for all of his robots. Including miniature nuclear reactors. So the chance of him accidentally blowing up the city with a homemade nuke was pretty small, or at least until he decided to enact whatever he was going to do with it. Meaning they needed to find him now.
And the only way to find him quickly was with Baymax's super scanner, which had been damaged during his berserker charge back on the island. During the time when Naruto hand been fighting the microbots outside the compound Hiro had been arguing with the rest of the team, and had angrily flown off with Baymax when he had been unable to immediately track the villain. This meant he was most likely back at the garage where they had all the tools necessary to fix any problem they would have with their armour or gear.
Having a destination agreed on the team began to head towards the Lucky Cat Cafe, where HIro most likely was. With Wasabi clinging onto Naruto's back, and Honey Lemon being carried in his arms, the team set off. If Naruto hadn't been there the lieth chemist would have had to be carried by GoGo, and Wasabi would be forced to hold onto Fred as he super jumped his way across the town. Which would have been funny to watch.
By the time everyone had gotten to the cafe, and more specifically the alley behind it, the street lights had started to come on as the sun began to set. The days traffic had quieted as many people began to settle down at home in the late summer evening. The lack of noise filled the team with tension as they approached the garage, none of them wanting to upset Hiro any further than he was. A heavy sadness hung over them as they saw the light inside their makeshift lab, knowing just how hurt the young genius was.
None of them felt good about what had happened to their friend Tadashi, all of them were handling it in different ways, but none of them could really do much except feel sorry for HIro. He was just some 13 year old kid who was about to take on the world and all that it offered without the emotional maturity that came with age. And then for the one person that would be standing beside him to weather all storms to just up and vanish, with no real chance of ever returning. It was honestly a miracle that it taken him confronting the man who had hurt his brother, before the boy had blown up in anger.
With soft footsteps the team stopped just outside the garage, listening as the soft whimpers of a crying Hiro where muffled by the soft and squishy body of Baymax. For an entire minute everyone just stood still, no one daring to move as their friend finally allowed himself to grieve. Only the sound of quiet sobs filled the air. Until the voice of someone very familiare began talking.
"This is Tadashi Hamada and this the first test of my robotics project." For almost half an hour the recorded voice of Tadashi played throughout the alley, only meeting failure as he continued to push forward to finishing the creation of his medic bot. Never giving up until he finally got the result he was looking for.
With spirits lifted and moral high, the team walked into the lab and Hiro's view. Before he could give any kind of apology GoGo walked up and pulled the young man into a hug. Silencing any more doubt and guilt amongst the team.
Once he was released Honey pulled out her flash drive and began to explain to Hiro what they had learned, from Callaghan's reasoning to the nuclear sub. With renewed vigor everyone got to work on planning for how they were going to stop the revenge driven father.
With determination in his heart Naruto stood next to GoGo and smiled as he thought about how she had handled Hiro so effortlessly. "You're going to make a great mother someday GoGo," He whispered to her.
-End Chapter-
Done, wanted this finished in January but I'm fine with this. So baring things becoming to long, next chapter should be the last chapter. The final fight at Krei Tech, going into the portal, and seeing what we should do with Tadashi. I'm going to be focusing on this story because honestly I just want to switch it over to complete as soon as possible.
Very quickly now let's talk about that nuke I put into this chapter. A bit of a spoiler, but the nuclear reactor is just going to be used to power the portal and never blows up. Callaghan doesn't plan to use it for anything else, but as a power source. I can't find much proof of this any more, but I swear I heard that in an earlier script for the Big Hero 6 movie they were going to have Yokai take a nuclear sub for the same purpose I have, but scrapped the idea. Given how powerful I've made Naruto I believed the added threat, on top of Krei's V.I.L.E. robots would give Naruto plenty to work with. I just wanted to clarify this during the currently tense climate the world finds itself in.
That being said, let us now talk about the new Big Hero 6 TV series that aired its first 2 episodes. I've received a few PMs requesting that I continue this fic throughout the TV show, and while I'm not against it, it would be quite a lot more work. So what I'm going to do is finish the next chapter and just call the fic completed, until at least season 1 of the show is over. At which point I'll be able to look at if there are any interesting ideas I could go with. With season 2 already greenlit the creators are talking about expanding the plot, so we'll probably have to wait for that to really get any closure.
What I'm trying to say here is I'm going to finish this story, call it complete, and if the show turns out to be really good after we get pretty far into it, I MIGHT continue. But let me know your thoughts in a review or PM. I'd like to know. Also from the short clip shown, GoGo and Honey are now sharing an apartment, Which I really like the concept of.
Thank you for reading. Goodnight and good luck.
