I went down to the staff room looking for Mr. Garland. 'Like he deserved to be treated like a person after what he put Murdoch and his family through' I thought. I reach the room and open the door.

"Alright you lot. Has anyone seen Dr. Garland recently?" One doctor raised his hand.

"I saw him a little less than a hour ago. Said he was off to assist in the birthing of a child. Haven't seen him since." I nod acknowledging the doctor's statement.

"Why do you want to know?" a nurse piped up. Her voice was fearful meaning she might know more than the others.

"This Mr. Galand is a known felon charged for harassing an officer of the law. He has escaped prison and has tried to steal that same officers child. If any of you have anything to add to this story please come down to the station for an interview." I say my voice stern with authority.

"Thank you." I say on my way out. I close the door behind me and exhale. I wait a moment and continue back up the stairs. I reach the top and head for the exit.

"Higgins, see to it that this nurse is escorted down to the station house for questioning." He nods.

"Oh and Higgins, where's Crabtree?" I ask realizing that he wasn't at the hospital.

"I don't know sir. He went to give Dr. Ogden the papers and never returned. He is probably at the station wondering where we are."

"Sounds 'bout right." I murmur. A carriage taxi passes by and I flag it down. 'All the doctors seemed scared, possibly from being threatened by Mr. Garland' I think. I hop into the carriage.

"Station House four driver." I say. The whole drive the same thought came to my head. How did he get the license to practice medicine again and, most importantly, how did he escape prison?

I reached the station just as Crabtree came back from the morgue. He was smiling like the best thing just happened. I presumed he was happy for Murdoch and Dr. Ogden. I walk into the station and go straight to Murdoch's filing cabinet. If I was going to find anything at all for this case it would be here. I pull out all the files under the name Garland. Most of the files were about his brother Darcys murder investigation.

"Sir, what are you doing going through the Detectives files?" Crabtree asks from the doorway.

"Leslie Garland has escaped prison and is now trying to get back at the Detective and his family by stealing their baby." I say carefully trying not to reveal anything about the baby.

"After attempting to steal the baby he vanished and is probably planning to do something more drastic than what he has already done." I finish.

"Well then." Crabtree says shocked. "Do we have any witnesses?" He asks.

"One nurse who returned the babe back to and another Doctor who claims to have seen him before entering the room." I say writing it down on Murdoch's chalkboard.

"Higgins is bringing in the nurse in for questioning." I add making sure he knows every detail. I step back and view the board. So far nothing has linked to something else. Crabtree had moved over to the files and was reading through them.

"Well we know why he is doing it." he said his nose buried in a folder.

"We just need to know how he got out of prison and were he is now." I finished. There was a sharp knock on the door and Higgins popped his head into the room.

"Sir the nurse you wanted to speak with is in your office."

"Good job Higgins. Help Crabtree here with these files. We must find Leslie Garland." I say walking out of the Detectives office and into mine. The nurse stood by my desk her hands shaking.

"Thank you for coming ma'am. Please take a seat." I say gesturing toward the chair in front of my desk. She sits and delicately places her hands on her lap.

"Can I offer you a drink? Some tea perhaps?" I say sitting down in my chair.

"No thanks, I- I'm fine." she says trying to control her fear.

"You said that Mr. Garland told you his plans for the child did you not?" I ask not wanting to waste any more time than I already had.

"Yes h- he did. He said he was going to give the child to his wife because she couldn't have any." she said finally calming down a bit.

"Right, did he say anything else to you?"

"Yes he did. After he said that he moved his coat aside and showed us his gun. Said anyone who got in the way of his plans would die. Then he left. When no one was looking I took the babe and ran upstairs." She breathed trying to control her shaking.

"Am I going to die Inspector?" she asked tears forming in her eyes.

"No ma'am. The constabulary will make sure that no harm comes to you." I say reassuring her. She nods.

"Thank you so much for your time. You can leave now." I say. She stands up and quickly leaves my office. I get up to pour myself a glass of Scotch.

"Sir I think I know where Mr. Garland might be hiding." Crabtree says walking into my office.

"Where is it?" I ask sipping my scotch.

"Please note this is a theory so-"

"Just get on with it." I interrupt. He clears his throat and continues.

"If he wanted to get back at the Murdochs wouldn't he want to stay near them?" he asks.

"They do live in a hotel."

"Exactly. We should check the records and see if he checked into the hotel." he finished. I think about it while I take another sip of scotch.

"Good idea Crabtree. Get your helmet we are heading to the Windsor." I say draining my glass.

"Sir do I need my helmet? Its positively boiling outside." the constable complained.

"Yes you do Crabtree." I respond grabbing my coat.
