Fa Mulan had considered many possibilities for what her other, alternate selves would be like before they met. She believed in the duality of souls: The hun and the po, and how one affected the other in life. To see someone with her po, her corporeal self but a different hun... She was filled with both excitement and trepidation.
Would this Mulan have fallen for Sora? She had to admit, under the right circumstances she could have fallen in love with him. He was kind, brave, and true. He accepted her for who she was. That thought filled her with nothing negative, just some mild embarrassment and humor.
Would this Mulan have stayed home and be mourning her father? Having never gone to war? She couldn't believe she would ever have done that, but maybe she was wrong...
At last, the door to the other universe opened and a bright light shown forth. Mulan shielded her eyes, and when the light dimmed she lowered her hand to greet her other self.
"Hell... Oh?" She stuttered as she took in her other self. Just as the other Mulan studied her.
Her counterpart stood straighter than her, maybe a bit taller. Her hair was still short, just barely touching her shoulders. Her clothing was the real surprise though: She was clothed in bright blue, green and red silks, stitched into a deel tunic cut for grace and mobility. The richness of the fabrics made it clear, however, it was clothing fit for a noble.
Yet beneath this clothing, her legs were clothed in tough wool leggings and leather boots, better suited for a monad. Atop her head, she wore a simple cap inlaid with pearls. Around her neck was a necklace: A simple silver chain, with a falcon shaped pendant hanging from it. And at her side was a sword, wrapped in Hun leathers.
It was her face that seemed the strangest of all to Mulan though. This Mulan's face was harder, colder. Her eyes had seen much, and she looked at her with the intensity of a hawk. Her warmth was still there, but not as evident. And the way she rested her hand on her sword showed that she knew how to use it, and had recently.
"... You're not what I expected," the original Mulan spoke at last. Her counterpart nodded, regal as a queen.
"Nor are you."
"I wasn't sure what to expect," Mulan admitted. "It's like a mirror but-"
"Your reflection isn't quite right," the other finished with a nod. "I know. But despite everything, I am glad to know there is someone out there who knows what I went through. Though not the same outcome, obviously."
Mulan nodded with a smile, feeling a little more at ease. "Obviously. For all I know, you lost the battle and Shan Yu won."
The other Mulan smiled. It made a chill run down Mulan's spine, especially the cold glint in the other woman's eyes.
"Oh no. He still lost. I still defeated his army. Still was found out, and was rejected. Left to die," she spat. "And in that frozen hell... Shan-Yu found me."
The other Mulan's eyes lit up at the mention of Shan-Yu, and the original felt a cold pit grow in her stomach.
"At that moment, I was willing to die. I told him what I did, who I was, and what I got for defending my country," the other Mulan went on. "I told him to kill me... And he just laughed."
Mulan gaped at her double, who was smiling in grim determination.
"You see... The Huns respect ability, and courage, and determination. Regardless of who has it. To them, I wasn't a disgrace or embarrassment. I was Mulan, the soldier who destroyed their army. I was a goddess of war..." She shook her head. "It took some time, but I realized that this war would keep going and going unless someone stopped it. Unless someone united our peoples. Unless someone ended the arrogance of the Emperor and those who think like him!"
"No," Mulan breathed in horrified realization. "You didn't...!"
"Allow me to properly introduce myself," the other Mulan said in a tone as firm and unyielding as a mountain. "I am Empress Shan Mulan, wife of Emperor Shan Yu. Ruler of China and all the lands beyond..."
Ariel was fiddling on her laptop in the common room of the Princess Pad. Snow White was nearby knitting, while Rapunzel helped her with the yarn. Ariel looked over at the door where the interdimensional nexus was, biting her lower lip in worry.
"You're going to set that door on fire soon," Aurora observed as she walked into the common room, carrying a platter of drinks she set down on the coffee table. Ariel flushed.
"Sorry. I'm just a little concerned. I mean, it's so... Quiet."
"You meeting with the other you wasn't full of explosions," Rapunzel observed. She flushed. "I mean, it was, but that was the evil you! There's no indication this could be the evil Mulan!"
"I suppose," Ariel sighed. "And I really liked the last Ariel I met!" She beamed. "We're friends on Facebook! And no, I don't know how that works," she said quickly at Rapunzel's questioning look. Snow White shrugged, still furiously knitting.
"Meeting my dark self wasn't bad at all! We got along just fine!" She beamed. "I'm sure Mulan will do the same!"
"Uh... Right," Ariel said with a slow, nervous nod. She clicked on a video on YouTube, and sighed happily as some music began to play.
"What's that from? Sounds intense," Rapunzel asked curiously.
"Oh, it's called 'Megalovania' from Undertale," Ariel explained. "And it's wonderful music! I'll never play the actual section but-"
The door to the nexus room exploded, and Mulan flew through the debris. She backflipped and landed on her feet, skidding backwards as she drew her sword. Another Mulan, this one in her usual clothing, charged after her twin with her sword drawn and fury in her eyes.
"DIE!" They both shrieked, and they began to sword fight at such high speed their blades became blurs and sparks erupted from their steel blades. The other Mulan dropped down to try and legsweep her double, but their Mulan jumped over it. Their Mulan returned the favor and the other Mulan jumped over it again. They resumed crossing their blades, inflicting minor cuts and slashes on the other. At last, their Mulan jumped back and skidded backwards to a halt by the couch. She grabbed the knitting needles out of Snow White's hands, and threw them like senbon at the other Mulan. Her double rolled, dodging the needles, before grabbing the serving platter and throwing it at their Mulan like Captain America throwing his mighty shield.
Their Mulan deflected the platter, and charged her more colorful twin. She locked their swords and tackled her, and both Mulans fell out the window onto the balcony below. The other princesses looked out the window as the two Mulans continued to fight furiously, unleashing their magic flames and further weapons against one another.
Their Mulan got in a lucky strike, blasting the ground in front of her double with a Fireball to blind her with smoke and dust, before lunging forward to try and impale her. The other Mulan narrowly dodged, throwing a grappling hook around her double's blade and yanking it out of her hand. Their Mulan charged, dropping into a slide to duck both swords slashing for her head, before sweeping her double off her feet.
She recovered her blade and struck for the other, but the other Mulan rolled out of the way and threw dirt into their Mulan's eyes. Their Mulan parried her double's next thrust while blind, giving herself just enough time to clear her eyes of dust to retaliate. Their blows grew faster, their fury building like a raging inferno.
"We've got to stop them before they kill eachother!" Rapunzel gasped. "Get Elsa and-ARIEL!"
Ariel was holding up her webcam to record the whole thing. She shrugged.
"What?"
