For starters, this is LONG overdue, and for that, I apologize. I have no excuses apart from my first year of college and that my interests varied over to Creepy Pasta for quite some time. Basically, in the time between chapter twelve and this one, I've started and managed a LOT of work on four different Creepy Pasta stories. (Two on Jeff the Killer, one of Masky of Marble Hornets, and one of Slenderman.) As the obsession with them passed, I found myself straying back to Noblesse, and found myself having written far more than I expected. So, this is a nice, long chapter. I'm eager for the next chapter because there will be... well, you'll see!
It was late.
Because it was late, it was dark.
Because it was dark, suspicious figures were sure to be lurking around.
Even if I had no reason to be scared of suspicious figures, some people did. I didn't think I could feel fear for myself anymore. And, above all, I had M-21 here to protect me, if worse came to worse.
In a distance, I could see a commotion; a crowd gathered 'round, if you will. I could see several men falling as one attacked the others, one by one.
When we approached the group of people, I was surprised to see Regis and Seira standing off to the side. Several men lay sprawled on the floor, moaning and holding themselves in various places, excluding the ones who were unconscious. Amongst the men still standing was Shinwoo, aiming a fist at the nearest man's face.
"That's enough." M-21 spoke as he approached the group. Shinwoo froze, his fist barely an inch from the man's nose. "Don't overdo it, Han Shinwoo."
Shinwoo lowered his arm and slid back. "You. If you wanna pick a fight over this incident, take it up with me. I won't forgive you if you treat my friends like you did today." Shinwoo threatened the man before turning toward Seira and Regis.
Seira stood before Shinwoo, holding out Shinwoo's bag.
"Ah, thanks." Shinwoo smiled and took the bag.
M-21 and I stood amongst the crowd of fallen men. I suspected we had the same thoughts; Shinwoo had increased in skill. I wondered what compelled him to hone on his skills if he couldn't remember the situations he was placed in before.
"Why are you here?" Regis questioned M-21.
"I was only heading back to the house."
"That's not the question I asked."
M-21 stared at Regis blankly before continuing onward. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"I am asking what you're doing here, mingling with humans." M-21 froze behind Regis. "Did you think I didn't know? From the moment I saw you, I knew that you'd gotten power from being a human experiment. I just didn't say anything about it." Regis's words made me want to slap him, but Frankenstein already warned me about their strength. They were far stronger than I could ever hope to be, no matter what I was. "I don't know what you're doing, but I advise you to watch your step. I hate humans like you. No, I can't even call you human anymore," Regis turned to look at M-21 over his shoulder, and continued, "because you gave up being a human just for the sake of power."
At this, I started forward, glaring furiously at Regis. I hovered over him. I could feel my skin prickling with anger. "What gives you the right to judge him? You know nothing of the things he's-!"
"Mirai, don't." M-21 spoke gently, but I could hear the distinct emotion of hurt. Of course those words hurt him. He didn't undergo those experiments willingly. For Regis to accuse him of such things…
"But, he-!" Again, he cut me off.
"This isn't your fight." M-21's voice remained gentle.
"But…" I sighed, and sent one more glare down at Regis as M-21 walked off. I closed my eyes, grimacing, then turned to trail after M-21. "Alright."
"Why are you so defensive?" Regis asked me, returning a glare of his own. "Looking at it now, I can sense something strange from you."
I snickered at him. Glancing at M-21, I said, "He means more to me than he will ever know, not that it's any of your business, Regis." I glared back down at Regis. "And I guess we'll never know what I am. If you don't know, no one does." I closed my eyes momentarily then took off after M-21. I wouldn't leave him alone at this time. After all, he didn't leave me alone when I needed him.
Even when I caught up with M-21, I didn't say anything. He remained silent, too.
Even if I could managed to convince him to talk, I wouldn't. He needed silence and I would accept that.
When we arrived back at the house, M-21 walked directly to the balcony. I trailed after him, but remained a few feet away from him.
"M-21…" I glanced over at him to see his fists clenched. His teeth were bared and his eyes shut tight.
"You look unwell. Did something happen?" Frankenstein's voice startled me. Jeez, he needed to learn to make some noises when he walked.
M-21 seemed indecisive on whether or not to respond, but in the end decided against it. "It's nothing. Nothing happened." M-21 changed the subject. "Those guys?"
"They went out a while ago. They must be investigating something, going out every night." Frankenstein walked up to the railings and leaned onto them beside M-21.
"Hn. Aren't they busy?"
"I know you find this uncomfortable. There are some unavoidable circumstances, so I would appreciate it if you understood."
M-21 turned and walked past Frankenstein. "You don't have to be concerned about me. You're being plenty considerate by letting me stay here." My eyes followed after M-21, but my body did not.
"Mirai, what happened?" Frankenstein asked when M-21 was far enough out of hearing distance.
"That brat said some things he shouldn't have…" I grit my teeth and clenched my fists.
"For you to react like this, I'd say it upset M-21. Did it have something to do with his enhancement?"
"It had everything to do with his enhancement! That damned brat accused him of throwing away his humanity for power!" I slammed my fist on the metal railing, careful not to use too much strength, though I would have loved to have tore something to pieces right then and there. "That brat knows nothing!"
"That's just the problem, Mirai. Regis knows nothing of what happened to M-21. He doesn't know that he's wrong."
"That still doesn't give him a right to accuse someone of something! What right does he have?!" I spun around and faced Frankenstein. "He has no right to make M-21 feel that way…" I stared off to the side, starting to feel better now that I'd shouted some.
"He will come to realize his mistake. When he does, he will apologize. Such is in is pride."
"Yeah, he'd better. Or I will force it from him." With the last threat, I walked off, shrugging past the noises in the living room, past Regis, and into my room. I slammed my door shut with a glare at Regis.
It took some time, and some restraint, but I managed to fall asleep.
Another day of guarding the school and watching those two every chance I could, another night of heading back to the house with M-21.
He still seemed upset by Regis's words, and the only thing this did was anger me further. Through it all, I worked to ignore these complicated emotions with much difficulty.
M-21 and I walked, side-by-side, in silence.
As I'd expected, it didn't take long for those two to show their faces again.
I glared rightfully at Regis.
"What is this?" M-21 stared halfheartedly at the two. He took a glance at me, which I saw from the corner of my eye, seeing my tense frame and fierce glare. "Mirai." I cast my own glance at him, shook my head, then continued to glare.
"I have a few things to ask you." Regis seemed to choose his words carefully.
"I'm not sure I know anything worthwhile for such elegant people as you." I smirked at M-21's response. Toying with his pride… nice.
"Judging by your response, it seems that you've conjectured something about us?"
"Perhaps, but I don't think you've been waiting for me just to ask that question."
"Seems like you have some skills. Then I'll make this short. Do you know anything about the incident that occurred not too long ago in the nearby hospital?" They were here examining that incident?
"Hospital?"
"What, you thought I was going to ask about you? If that was the case, I apologize for disappointing you. I don't know what your secret intentions are in hiding among humans, but I have no interest in you at all." If that were true, he'd feel no need to accuse M-21 and bring up old wounds.
"Hn. I'm also uninterested in you two."
"Then this is beneficial to both parties. Anyway, there is no way you can't know."
"It was such a huge case, I have heard of it. They say it was the work of a deranged person."
"A deranged person? Don't tell me you believe such a preposterous story."
"What do you actually want to say?"
"I want you to tell me actual information behind the incident, not that hasty cover-up story."
"Why must I tell you such things?"
"Looking at your behavior, I don't know what you think you know about us, but I am starting to think that you're probably misunderstanding something."
"Aren't you guys the ones who go around calling themselves Noblesse? I think you're misunderstanding that I wouldn't know."
"How did you know? There are not many instances in which we personally make a move. No, regardless of all that… You know who you're dealing with and you show this kind of attitude?"
"Why should he show you respect when you can't even-" I started.
"Mirai. Enough." M-21 stared down at me before returning his gaze to the two. "Why? Am I supposed to shake in terror when I see you?"
Regis smirked. "You're right. There's no need for that. It was just unexpected. I don't know if the information you have of us is wrong, or if you know what you're talking about and still acting like that, but your attitude was beyond my expectations. Why don't we go back to our original point. Do you truly have no intention of telling us nothing?"
"Why must I answer your questions?"
"I completely understand your situation. Even if you did know, I can hardly blame you for having to be cautious and unwilling to answer. I want accurate information, not the stupid story about a deranged person. I want to hear about het people involved with that person who caused the hospital incident."
M-21 thought for a moment. "Then I also have something I want to ask you."
"What is it?"
"Why are you trying to dig up such information?"
Much to M-21's and my surprise, Regis answered. "Fine. I can tell you. We want to find the people responsible and eliminate them." Regis waited for a response, but when he didn't get one, continued. "That is all I can say. Now it's your turn to answer."
"There's no reason for you to wander around searching for them, because they're dead."
"What? The mutant died?"
"Mutant?"
"There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding. There was no such thing as the 'mutant' you're trying to find."
"You. You know what a mutant is? The way you're talking, it seems as though you know exactly what the 'mutant' we refer to is." M-21 grit his teeth, realizing his mistake. "You know about mutants… and you must know quite a lot about us, too. It looks like having rational discussion will be more difficult than I thought." Regis's eyes widened. I could feel the force being directed to M-21. What it was, though, was beyond me.
Beside me M-21 trembled and his teeth were bared.
"You're putting up quite a resistance, but it is useless."
"Keuk…" With difficulty, M-21 managed to concentrate hard enough to break free of… whatever was going on. "Hah!" Could it have been the mind control Frankenstein was telling me about earlier?
"You blocked my power?"
Beside me, M-21 panted, attempting to recover himself.
"Keuk. Fine. Now you're starting to become interesting." Regis lowered his head and glared up at M-21 with a smirk.
I heard footsteps from behind me and glanced back, prepared to dodge whatever may be coming. Behind me walked Frankenstein and Raizel.
"So this is where everyone was." Frankenstein smiled as he approached us. "You were all late, so I came out to see what was going on, but I didn't know you would be together. How opportune. I have to prepare dinner soon…"
We all stood silent. No doubt M-21 knew, just as well as I did, that Frankenstein was attempting to break up the battle without bringing on suspicion to himself. Regis and Seira stood back, staring blankly at Frankenstein, acting as though they weren't doing anything out of the ordinary, according to human standards.
Frankenstein clapped his hands together and smiled. "Alright, let's all go home. Do any of you have a specific food you want to eat?" Everyone remained silent, but I had a suspicion that someone would speak up sooner or later… "After such a long time, I will display my skill. Tell me anything you'd like. There are so many ingredients at home…" The sounds of steps behind me, and the motion of Raizel stepping forward concluded my suspicions to be correct. "Eh?"
Raizel stepped forward, passing by Frankenstein, who glanced nervously at him. With absolution, Raizel spoke a simple word, "Ramen."
To which everyone, excluding myself, noticeably thought 'again?!' I, on the other hand, smiled at Raizel's desire and lifted a hand to my mouth to hide it. It was so like him.
Needless to say, when we returned to the house, Frankenstein cooked ramen, with my aid, not that it was needed. I simply passed him the ingredients he deemed necessary and left it at that. I didn't want to ruin one of his many 'prides' by adding in the wrong amount of, say, garlic or anything else.
Eventually, we all sat and ate, with the exception of M-21, who took to his room to eat. Though I sat beside Frankenstein, I glanced at his retreating form and grabbed at my bowl. I followed after him, barely getting my foot through his door as he shut it.
"Ah, I'm coming, too." I murmured as I pushed his door open and walked inside. M-21 stood, staring at me, a bowl of ramen in his hands. He blinked. I shut the door behind me with my foot and said lightly, "Well, neither of us is fond of those two…" I glanced at the door, hinting at Regis and Seira.
M-21 made a noise in agreement before turning and placing his ramen on a small desk. He drew the chair out and sat down, turning toward me.
I stood, unsure of where to sit, and glanced around. "Ah…" Eyeing his bed, I flushed lightly and moved over to it. I rearranged his blankets before maneuvering myself carefully, as to not spill my ramen, into a comfortable position on his bed.
The silence between us felt almost uncomfortable, though probably only to me.
After eating for some time, M-21 spoke.
"Why didn't you ever run?"
"I'm sorry?" I cocked my head to the side, momentarily confused. I realized what he meant only a moment before he clarified.
"When… M-24 and I kidnapped you, you never ran. Why?"
I thought for a moment. Why hadn't I run? I mean, sure, I was technically human at the time and wasn't aware of anything about myself, but I should have at least attempted to escape my kidnappers. "I think part of it was because I knew I stood no chance in escape. At the time, I believed I was human. You two were incredibly strong and fast, and then there was me. You would have caught me within seconds. And then you probably would have hurt me because I attempted escape, right?" I closed my eyes and smiled. I opened them to see M-21's eyes narrowed in understanding. He knew I was right. "I also think…" I trailed off, turning to the side.
"You think?"
"I… grew to be… fond of you two."
"Fond of your kidnappers?"
"I know it sounds strange. Believe me, I do. But in another aspect, it makes sense. I'd spent nearly a year alone with nothing but fear and a near loss of speech. It makes some sense that the first people willing to talk to me… that I would develop some bit of attachment." I paused. "It seems I'd developed Stockholm syndrome." I chuckled lightly at this.
"You could always leave now."
"I could." I nodded at this. "But where would I go?" I stared at the window past M-21. "Back to my little cardboard box? That's no way to live. You and M-24 gave me company. Frankenstein has given me a home. Raizel and Frankenstein, the children, and even you… you're all providing something I've desired for a year. Company, friends, people I could possibly even consider family. Living alone is a sad, miserable lifestyle, no matter what people say."
"It is." M-21's eyes were closed now.
"But you're not alone. Though I'm not the best company, I am here. I said that to you on the night M-24…" I trailed off, my own eyes narrowing. "On that night."
"Why?" M-21 questioned me.
"I…" I thought for a moment. "I don't really know." I stared directly into M-21's eyes. I knew why, of course. It was because I'd grown to care for him. Yet, how could I admit that to him without making him either uncomfortable or inconvenience him, if not both?
M-21 seemed displeased with my response, but accepted it nonetheless. He almost appeared to have been expecting a difference answer, but what…?
"M-21-" Before I could speak further, M-21 stood, his empty bowl in hands.
"We should join our company." He said as he walked past me. He paused before he opened the door and stepped out. I followed suit, finding nothing else to do in this situation. He almost sounded angry, but for what reason would he have to be angry? And with me, nonetheless. I hadn't openly admitted to anything… Or was I acting like I cared for him too much?
That had to be it. He could see that I cared for him and this bothered him. I was becoming a hindrance. If I was to continue saying the things I did and showing my affections, no matter how lightly I did, I would only continue to hinder M-21.
I decided then that I would put a lock on my emotions. I'd done it before, I could do it again. More than anything, I didn't want to be a nuisance to M-21.
While I fought internally with myself, I cleaned my bowl in the sink. I stared dazedly at the dish and my hands before I realized where I actually was.
I blinked repeatedly and worked to finish cleaning the dishes, those that were also not mine.
When I finished, I stood in the kitchen, leaning back against the counter with a glass of iced water in hand. Acting as though I wasn't able to hear, though it should be pretty obvious that I could, I listened as M-21 and Regis bickered.
"Do not feel at ease." Regis threatened.
"I wouldn't let down my guard like that."
"Don't think I'm finished with you."
"Hmph. I know you aren't." M-21 glared fiercely at Regis.
"I don't know where you're getting all that bravery, but it looks like you actually have no idea who you're dealing with."
"Don't you think, maybe, that I'm not actually misunderstanding anything? That I might know exactly what I'm dealing with?"
"What did you say?" Regis lowered his gaze at M-21.
While M-21 and Regis glowered silently at each other, Frankenstein glanced between the two. Raizel sat, drinking his tea just as calmly as ever.
"Do not provoke me. You think that just because humans are around, I won't use my powers?" This caught my attention. Sure, the people Regis thought were humans weren't actually human, but the fact that he was willing to harm humans captured my immediate response to target him as an enemy.
"I wasn't even thinking about such a thing."
The two remained silent until they finished eating, which was interesting to watch.
When the bunch, through quite a bit of patience and waiting, finished eating, we moved into the main room, in which we each sat in the same corresponding positions around the table. However, I joined in and sat, with a hefty amount of distance between us, beside M-21. I left a reasonable distance between us as to not draw too close and hinder him.
M-21 sat explaining his reasoning for being here to Regis. Each glared at the other.
"Are you telling me to just obediently believe what you're saying?" Regis demanded.
"That's your problem. Why must I bother to persuade you?" M-21's voice was smooth even as he glared at Regis.
"You… will die." Regis glared furiously.
"I'm not going to die easily."
"Why you…" With a slight widen of his eyes, Regis released his aura.
M-21 and I each reacted noticeably. M-21's eyes widened. I, on the other hand, being the weakest here, buckled over with a rather audible slam of my hand on the table before me. Using the table to keep me upright, I glared weakly at Regis.
M-21 turned to me and made a move to help me.
Regis glanced at Frankenstein, Raizel, then at me before quickly sealing his aura. M-21 stopped his movement toward me and returned to his previous position, glaring at Regis.
The room was silent.
"You. I'll be keeping an eye on you." Regis said to M-21. He then turned to me. "I apologize for that."
I scoffed at him. "As if I'd accept your apology." Regis returned a scoff of his own.
"And you… will forget this entire conversation." Regis addressed Frankenstein, who stared blankly for a moment.
He then smiled. "Of course."
Regis turned to Raizel, who turned to Regis. The two stared at each other.
With a rather… amusing aura, Regis glowered down at Raizel. "Look at me. You will forget everything that has happened and been talked about here."
Raizel gave no reaction, which clearly startled Regis. Raizel then grabbed his tea cup and continued to drink.
Regis stared at him, obviously confused. With a strange, confused smirk, Regis seemed to believe he managed to succeed in his attempt. Of course, he hadn't, but saying otherwise would result in… well, who knows?
I sighed and left the table, excusing myself with a low murmur. "I don't feel well." Without casting a glance at anyone, I walked rather slowly to my room. I softly shut my door behind me and leaned against it. I sighed heavily and leaned forward, my eyes closed.
Today had been overall exhausting, and being, in a sense, rejected by M-21 was no help. Though it wasn't a straightforward rejection, it still felt like one. With a deep breath, and a slow exhalation, I stepped over to my closet and changed into a comfortable gown, white in color and simple in design. It was strange to me that since I'd lost my memories, and even though I'd recovered them, I started, and continue, to wear little other than dresses. Since I'd started wearing them, I'd found them far more comfortable in comparison to what I'd been left to wear for almost a year. So, perhaps, it did make sense. I lay on my bed for some time before a knock at my door sounded.
I moved to a sit and stayed there for a moment. The knock didn't sound particularly familiar…
I sighed before standing, fairly certain of who I would see on the other side. When I opened the door, I saw Regis and Seira.
"What do you want, Noble?" I glowered down at Regis.
"You're not feeling well."
"And?"
"That is my fault. I shouldn't have released my aura like that."
"Oh." I laughed then. I laughed to the point of having to hold my stomach and wipe at my eyes. "Oh, this isn't your fault. I'm just an idiot."
"Sorry?"
"Let's just say I've said and felt some things I wish I hadn't recently." I smiled pathetically and glanced beside me. "This has nothing to do with your aura, though I did certainly feel it."
"I don't understand."
"Of course you don't. And I won't explain either. Or rather, I can't explain it. Hell, there's a lot about my life that I can't explain anymore…"
Regis and Seira didn't respond. What was there to say?
"Well, I'm sure you two have a hospital to go investigate." I closed my eyes briefly, wishing I hadn't said that, incase they decided I may know something on the case; which I obviously do.
"Do you know anything about it?"
"I was told it was the work of an unstable, mentally challenged man. That's all I know." I stared directly into Regis's eyes. "But you seem to believe it was something else. A 'mutant' you said?" I pretended to think about this. "The only thing I can imagine when one says 'mutant' is a strange humanoid creature with the additional features of a creature. You know, a monster. But such things don't exist, little boy." I grinned down at him.
Regis's brow twitched and he noticeably held back what would have probably been some sort of violence and turned away from me. He stomped off lightly.
I looked to Seira. "Sorry. He's just fun to toy with. And… I don't find much entertainment here. At least, not of this sort."
"Why do you not go home?" I was surprised to hear Seira talk, let alone to me.
I hesitated. I smiled sadly, and as I shook my head, I closed my eyes. "You should go catch up with him. Before he gets too far ahead."
"Seira!" I heard Regis's voice call out. When I glanced behind Seira, that sad smile still on my lips, I saw Regis standing in the doorway to leave the house, staring back at Seira and me.
He seemed momentarily confused by my expression. I stepped back, nodded at Seira, who also stared at me, and shut my door.
I sighed and waited until I heard the door shut in the living room, signaling the two having left. I opened my door and searched for the three that should still be around.
I found them standing on the balcony outside.
When I stepped through the door, M-21 stood to my right while Frankenstein to my left. Raizel stood before me, staring off the balcony. I walked up to Raizel and stood beside him.
He glanced down at me, to which I returned with a nod and a smile. I then looked off the balcony, staring at the few people that walked the streets. Several talked on their phones, their voices I could hear, even up here. Others remained silent, walking at various paces.
Some looked to be leaving work, while others appeared to be headed off to, perhaps, a friend's house.
Frankenstein's voice distracted me from my observations. "I'm guessing they wanted information on the hospital incident, right?"
"You knew?" M-21 asked.
"I believe that it's pretty much the only notable incident that would bring them here personally. I was expecting something like this, but when I saw the way he retracted his power, I knew for sure."
"What do you mean, you knew for sure by seeing that?"
"They probably believe that Master and I are humans. He thought that if he used his power, we humans might have been hurt, so he pulled back." Frankenstein paused. "Of course, Mirai was the only one it seemed to harm."
My brow twitched. I glared gently at Frankenstein and stuck my tongue out at him before turning back to my observations.
"In order to… not harm humans?
"This doesn't apply to all of them, but there are those who dislike harming humans. Seira and Regis are probably part of that group."
The two fell silent.
Just as I went to continue my meaningless observations, Frankenstein spoke to Raizel. "Master, I will excuse myself first for the experiment…"
When I glanced behind me, upon hearing Frankenstein's voice, I noticed M-21's immediate reaction to the word 'experiment'.
He looked at Frankenstein in disbelieve, distrust, and perhaps even disgust.
"Frankenstein." Raizel's voice spoke beside me.
Certainly these two wouldn't be performing the same stunts as the Union. They never struck me as the type…
"Yes." Frankenstein responded.
"I trust you." Raizel didn't turn to Frankenstein as he said this.
"Just leave it to me."
I could see the disbelief in M-21's eyes. The betrayal.
Then Frankenstein continued. "I will definitely… create a perfect ramen that Master has never before eaten."
"Eh…" That's it? Ramen? I laughed audibly, finding my own relief. I could see the relief and confusion in M-21.
"I will leave it to you." Raizel nodded lightly.
Frankenstein left and set off to his experiments. Raizel, M-21, and I stood on the balcony for a while longer.
"I will find out where those two went." M-21 spoke and left quickly.
Now Raizel and I stood in silence.
"I think I will take a walk. I could use the time to myself." I cast a glance at Raizel. "May I?"
Raizel didn't seem to expect me to ask if I could leave. Why did I ask?
"You may do as you wish." I smiled at his words and nodded.
Placing my hands on the railing of the balcony, I lifted my legs and bound over the edge, landing lightly on the ground.
Ensuring no one was around to see me, I took off in a random direction, using my incredible speed to reach my goal quickly. When I encountered humans along the way, I quickly leapt onto the nearest building and took to the skies, making it to my destination in less than minutes.
I stared down at the gravestones below from the nearest building. Before jumping down to my goal, I located my parent's headstone.
Finding it with ease, I leapt down, landing lightly before it.
I kneeled down before it. I sat politely on my legs and rested my hands on my thighs. I gripped at my dress. I sat there for a while before I could muster the strength to speak.
"I've been thinking, you know." I started, my voice gentle. "I'm not human."
I remained silent for a while.
"I don't know what I am, though, either." I blinked slowly and took a deep breath. "Wouldn't that mean you two weren't human either?" I smiled. "I don't know. Maybe I was adopted. I never really shared either of your features. I looked similar to Aunt Maggie, though… which was always strange to me. Why did I look like my aunt, but not my own parents?"
I laughed lightly, my grip on my dress tightening. I lowered my head and grimaced. "I miss you two."
I swallowed the swelling that formed in my throat, knowing I may start crying at any moment.
"I've been rather lonely lately, all things considered. And I… I've been a burden to the one guy I've grown to care about." I sniffed lightly. "I've decided I'll keep my distance from him. I don't want to be a nuisance."
I trailed off, my voice growing smaller and smaller. I decided to change the subject.
"Oh, but there's two new additions to our small little home. They're called Regis and Seira. I don't really like them, but I've never been fond of many people, have I? The guy I care for and Regis both have this… undergoing hatred for each other. Really, it's amusing to watch them constantly glaring at each other!" I lowered my eyes. "However…" My voice grew slightly darker. "That brat said some things that pissed me off. He has no right to make the claims he did toward M-"
"Miss?" A sudden voice behind me cut me off, startling me so badly that I literally leapt into the air, thankfully not very high, and landed on my feet with a rather loud yelp. I turned behind me to see a purple-haired man standing a few feet away from me, his hands held up before him and his eyes fairly wide, likely in shock of my reaction. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you, Miss. I was worried."
"Worried?" I questioned, taking a cautious step back when I noticed a rather dangerous looking gun on his hip.
"Oh, I won't hurt you." He said as he glanced down at his gun, then back to me. "I always have one with me."
"Citizens aren't supposed to carry weapons. Or even own one. And your accent…" Though I couldn't place his accent, I knew for certain that he was foreign. At the least, his eyes weren't crimson. He definitely wasn't a Noble.
"Ah…" The purple-haired man smiled, looking rather amused, but in the natural sense. He really didn't strike me as suspicious, besides the gun.
I straightened my frame and relaxed. "What is it you were worried about?"
"Oh! You were just sitting there, and I was worried that you might have been hurt! I mean, such a sexy lady as you, sitting outside alone at night could have meant something different." Sexy? I furrowed my brows at the man, giving him a strange look.
"This is a graveyard. I was… visiting." I stepped back again. This man's use of… words… was highly… unflattering. I'd never been one to appreciate the terms 'sexy' or 'hot' or anything of the like.
The man looked around him, only just seeming to notice it was, in fact, a graveyard.
"How… long were you here?" I questioned the man hesitantly. After all, this wasn't the first time I've had people sneaking up behind me while I visited my parents.
"Ah, a while. I'm sorry." I smiled lightly and lifted a hand in apology. I sighed.
"That's alright. At least someone was listening to me rant." I shrugged lightly and shook my head. "Because we all know they can't hear me anymore." I turned to the gravestone that belonged to my parents. "It's only a mild consolation talking to a headstone. It doesn't really help." I stared at the gravestone with a look of disdain for a moment, before turning back to the purple-haired man.
"Look, I appreciate your… being worried, but I'm fine. If anything, it's you that worries me." I narrowed my eyes.
"Me?" He questioned.
"Yes, you. Think about it. You're a man, and men aren't easy to be trusted in my book. Men take what they want when they want without remorse. Well, some men. I can't say all of them do, but they seem to think they're in the right." I explained casually. This man didn't seem like the type, but I wasn't the best at judgment. I could never be too careful.
Yet, at the same time, even if this man did try anything, he'd be the one who would need to be careful, as I wasn't human; he was.
"I assure you I mean you no harm. I was just worried."
"So you mentioned." I muttered. "I hate to be rude, but I should be getting back. I suspect my caretakers may begin to worry if I remain out for too much longer."
"Oh, certainly! I didn't mean to keep you!" The man stepped to the side, allowing me access through the gate behind him. "Would you like me to walk you home?"
"Oh, that won't be necessary. I can handle myself if I should find a fight. I'm a lot stronger than I look." Had this man not struck me as so entirely strange, I would have smiled at him reassuringly, but something told me doing such a thing was unnecessary and not in my best interest. So I nodded at him lightly and walked past him rather quickly. The moment he was out of sight, I would run.
It didn't take me long to get back home, through which I took a… less than common approach of entry. Rather than using the front door, or any door, I leapt to my window and carefully latched onto the sill before opening the unlocked glass. I slid inside silently and moved around my room, preparing to sleep for quite some time.
I think I'll skip school tomorrow.
