"And if you look that way, you'll see Polaris. Always look for that star if you get lost in the forest. It's kinda like a compass. Most people just call it the northern star though."
"Wellllll... What about that one south of the northern star?" She stretched out and pointed at a star far below the initial one that they previously had discussed.
"That one is... Apart of the Big Dipper. Its the Dubhe star. If you look a little to the east, you'll see three bright stars that form a handle and a small pot, that's the Big Dipper. That constellation is connected to the Little Dipper through the Polaris and the Dubhe stars."
"The Pisces constellation glimmer the brightest at this time of the year," he added. "But, I can't seem to find it around here."
May turned to face to Ash. They were placed at the summit of a mound underneath a grove of oak trees. The night sky was bedazzled with stars; There wasn't a single cloud in the atmosphere to ruin the display for the couple that evening.
However, you could hear Pokémon chirp amongst the forest.
Plusle and Minum bounced throughout the forest chasing one another. Girafarig and Stantler stood discreetly by the bank of the unconfined river, regaining their energy until the crack of dawn. Aipom Pokémon sprung from tree to tree in barrel full of tittering. And a plumply snoring Munchlax laid on its back next to its trainer, May.
The lively ambience set a mood for the two, while it did not fit the setting, it blended together so evenly. Despite this, it was no inconvenience for Brock and Max to fall asleep.
May giggled as she looked down at her partner deep in a slumber. She caressed it's fur while it slept.
"What about the Taurus constellation? Where is that one located?" She asked.
"To be honest, even if I knew what it looked like, I still wouldn't be able to point it out to you. Heh." Ash responded with a goofy grin, whilst rubbing his forehead like it had an answer.
"What's your favorite constellation?" He said. He scooted closer over to May. The space between them was miniscule before, they were practically shoulder to shoulder now.
"Leo's constellation is the best fashionably-wise, obviously!" She proclaimed arrogantly, her hand on her chest, eyes closed and her nose in the air.
"Oh yeah? But you'd probably freak out at the sight of a Manectric!" He snickered in a whisper.
"No, I wouldn't!" She shot back. She clasped her lips with both of her hands to not release another sound. Max repositioned himself in his slumber, nearly awakening.
The woods went quiet for a solid second or two, then resumed the aura it had previously to May's disrupting.
"Oops. Heheh."
Ash nearly fell over cackling but in a more hushed tone not to startle any nearby Pokémon unlike May may have. She lightly punched him in the arm. It didn't hurt though.
"Well.. I don't know about a whole constellation. But, my favorite stars have to be the ones you mentioned earlier. The Dubhe and Polaris stars."
"Why is that, May?"
"I don't know. Maybe because they're connected and bring each other together to create something more. It's romantic, don't you think so, Ash?" May said calmly.
"Uhhh.. I guess so... I don't really know about that kinda stuff." Ash replied with a scrunched face. "I do like the Gemini one though."
She put her hand over her mouth to hide her smile and said "I wouldn't assume so."
"Well." He yawned as he tipped his hat over his eyes and leaned up against the tree. "We better get some shut-eye. We've got to get up early tomorrow."
"But it's only been 20 minutes since the others went to sleep." Ash ignored her.
"Hey...! Ash..!" No response. He pretended he had already fallen asleep.
May took one more long glance up at the night sky. She didn't get many chances like this to stare because of her tiresome coordinating schedule. Staring to remember this sight because she may not get another chance to do so.
It was like Ho-Oh stained the sky with silver-glitter. If the river was as still as a lake, you'd struggle to find difference between it and the dotted upper-atmosphere.
She also yawned. Turned herself towards the oak tree that Ash was under and leaned her head upon his shoulder and drifted to sleep.
They used the stars as their nightlight.
