NEW MEMBER OF THE CREW
Kelly was standing in Eve's room in front of her closet mirror. It looked like her in the mirror but she wasn't sure it was.
It was around nine at night and Eve, Tiffany and Kelly were getting ready to go hangout at Shimmering Lake. Kelly had called her mom once she had arrived at Eve's house to let her know where she was and that she was planning to go out that night. Her mother was so in shock but Kelly was able to hear the happiness behind it. She told her to be careful and have fun. She also said to not be home so late but Kelly knew her mother could probably care less if she was. She was probably just happy Kelly was getting out of the house and even more that she had made some friends.
As Kelly looked at herself in the mirror she felt strange. Eve had picked out for her a very extravagant outfit that Kelly now realized that Randy had been right about Eve going overboard. Kelly was wearing a black mini skirt with black boots that were a little below her knee and a tight hot pink tank top that spelled the word SEXY across her breasts. She had no idea how to tell Eve that she did not feel comfortable in the outfit. However, Tiffany who had gone to the kitchen to make them some sandwiches saved her from doing so.
"Oh my gosh Eve! She is not going to wear that! That is not her style, that is YOUR style!" Tiffany said and walked over to Eve's bedside table and set the plate of sandwiches down. She walked over to Kelly and looked in the mirror with her. "I'm sorry Kelly, she does this to everyone. She put me in a tight mini dress one time and I was too embarrassed to tell her anything so I spent the whole time worried my butt was going to show."
Eve who was on her knees in front of her dresser with the bottom drawer open pulling out clothes from it turned to look at Tiffany with a frown. "Well I can't help it! I'm just trying to make you guys show your assets and look sexy but I understand now that not everyone likes that."
She continued digging through the drawer and then stood up and went over to Kelly carrying some more clothes. ""Fine," she said, "how about these?"
Kelly changed into some ripped skinny jeans and a flowy maroon tank top. Right away she felt more comfortable since it was closer to her style of being a little more covered up. Eve hurried over with some cute little black booties with a small heel and Kelly put them on noticing that it did pull the outfit together. She turned to Eve and smiled, "I like it a lot. I liked the first one too but…"
"I know, I know," Eve said and laughed, "I'm a bit too much sometimes but hey that's me! I didn't use to be like this. I used to dress like Ms. Little Sunshine, Tiffany over there with her cute little cardigans…"
Tiffany stuck her tongue at Eve since she was in the middle of putting on a cute black and brown cardigan over a little black dress. However, unlike Eve she wore black tights under her dress and brown booties similar to the ones Kelly was wearing.
"I'm just kidding Tiff! You look cute by the way," Eve said as she finished putting on her thigh high black boots. She also wore a black mini skirt and a tight red short sleeve blouse. Kelly felt relieved looking at her outfit because out of the three she felt hers was the one that looked the most casual unlike Tiffany's who looked like she could be having a nice dinner at a restaurant and Eve who looked like she was going out dancing to the club. She suddenly felt less nervous about going out since she knew she wouldn't be the one to stand out.
While Kelly sat on a chair in front of the mirror as Eve curled her hair Kelly then thought about how Eve had said she didn't use to be like this and wondered about it. "What did you mean when you said you didn't use to be like this? What happened?"
"Oh, well I used to be shy and quiet before but then I got this scar across my face and people started staring a lot," she said. Kelly looked at her through the mirror suddenly feeling bad for asking.
"Oh I'm sorry," Kelly said.
"Oh don't be," Eve said and smiled at her, "I'm over it. Yeah it was hard at first getting used to it but then I thought, well if people are going to stare then might as well give them something to look at! So I started dressing like a superstar!" The three girls laughed as Eve posed.
Kelly smiled. It was nice and different having girlfriends to talk to, borrow each other's clothes and laugh with. It was also nice to have friends who didn't care what people thought about them like Eve. She made Kelly feel less embarrassed and more comfortable about herself.
"There!" Eve exclaimed as she fluffed Kelly's curls, "you're all ready! You look so good! I'm so excited."
Kelly looked at herself in the mirror and thought she looked really nice. Eve definitely did a good job on her hair and makeup after a few times of letting her know that she didn't want anything to extravagant. "Thank you, I like it a lot. You did a good job," Kelly told her and smiled.
"Why thank you! Now I just need to put on some lipstick…" she started saying when the doorbell rang. "Ah crap, it's probably the guys already! They're gonna get so annoyed if we don't hurry up. Tiffany! Go get the door!"
Tiffany who was in the bathroom across from Eve's room yelled that she was looking for a necklace to put on. Kelly who was the only one ready felt awkward just standing there. "I can get it if you want," she said.
"Oh my gosh, please! We'll be right there," she said as she hurried to the mirror to put on her lipstick which matched her bright red shirt.
Kelly headed to Eve's front door and opened it. For some reason, she had completely forgot about Randy. She had been having such a good time with Eve and Tiffany that she had forgotten about her annoying crush on him until now. There he was standing in front of her wearing jeans and a navy blue t-shirt underneath a black jacket. He had some black and white Nikes on and was wearing a silver necklace. He also smelled really good as the smell of his cologne blew across Kelly's face.
He had been turning back signaling something to Jack and Zack who were in a big black Hummer and didn't notice that someone had opened the door. Kelly almost ran back to Eve's room but then he turned. "Oh, hey," he said and smiled, "are you guys ready?"
Kelly could barely make out words because he just made her so nervous. "Umm, yeah. I am but Tiffany and Eve are almost…"
Randy rolled his eyes and walked inside. Kelly shut the door behind him. "They always take forever," he then turned to look at Kelly. He was looking at her outfit which made her feel self-conscious. "I see you survived Eve's closet."
Kelly laughed, "Well, you should have seen the first outfit I tried on."
He sat on the arm of the couch in the living room and laughed too. "Yeah I'm pretty sure it looks similar to the one she's wearing tonight."
Kelly nodded and he laughed again. Then it got quiet. However, Randy didn't seem to feel uncomfortable or weird unlike Kelly. He seemed very much at ease. It was just Kelly and her nerves.
"Have you known each other long?" Kelly suddenly heard herself saying. She was just grabbing at anything to make conversation.
Randy who had been lost in thought turned back to her. "Who, Eve?"
"Umm, yeah," Kelly said feeling more and more embarrassed.
"Oh Eve is my cousin actually," he said and laughed, "My mom and her dad are siblings."
"Oh! I did not know that!" Kelly said surprised.
"Eve talks a lot but forgets the important stuff," he said and smiled. His blue eyes lighting up like they did at the park earlier. Kelly felt her stomach turn.
"What about the others? Tiffany and Jack?" Kelly continued asking questions to fill the silence.
"Tiffany has been my best friend since we were kids. She has lived next door to us for years. Her parents and my parents became good friends as well. Jack, I met him about two years ago in basketball camp and we have been friends ever since," he said.
"You guys all seem to get along really good," Kelly said as she crossed her arms to keep herself from fidgeting.
Randy laughed and put his hand on his chin. "Yeah most of the time," he said, "we are all like family to each other. There used to be more of us but you know people change…"
Randy made a face but then smiled again. Kelly knew he was thinking about Alex who Eve had said had been part of their crew before. She wondered why Alex would let Miz convince him to just stop talking to all his friends.
"But now you're part of our crew now," Randy said, "so that's good."
Kelly looked up shocked to hear him say that. He hadn't asked if she was but like Eve had done earlier just assumed she was. They already included her as if she had been part of their group for a long time.
Randy was looking at her with those blue eyes waiting to see what she would say. She opened her mouth to say something, she wasn't sure what but at least something…
At that moment, the click, click of heels was heard from the hallway and Eve and Tiffany came into the living room. "We're ready!" Eve announced, "let's go!"
Randy turned away from Kelly and stood up. "About time!" he said as he made a face at them.
"Sorry Randy," Tiffany said and scrunched up her face in apology.
"It's okay I forgive you but not Eve," he said as Eve reached over and punched him on the arm.
Kelly then followed them as they headed outside. She and Eve sat in the very back together while Zack and Tiffany sat in the middle and Randy sat in the passenger's seat next to Jack who was driving.
"I am so happy you're dad let you borrow his hummer Jack! That way we don't have to ride in The Spot van," Eve said and made a disgusted face.
"Who said he let me borrow it?" Jack said and gave them all a malicious grin through the rearview mirror. He then turned up the radio and started blasting the music which was what sounded like a dance rap song. Suddenly Jack and Zack started dancing and singing along with the song. Tiffany and Eve covered their ears and groaned.
Eve looked at Kelly and shouted over the music, "Sorry! They always do this!"
Kelly just smiled at her. She definitely did not mind. She was having a great time with them all already. She looked over at Randy who was smiling and nodding to the beat of the song. Like Randy had said earlier, she was part of their crew now.
