"Who's up for a few round of bowling tonight? Last day of training before holidays, thought it might be nice to hang out outside of hell. We can even get a few beers, the alley down the road has a bar," Renji said waving around a piece of meat on his fork, everyone else stopping to watch him. After a few seconds of silence few started nodding, Shinji clapping in delight at the idea. Ichigo scowled, she wouldn't be joining.
"I can't. Gotta track down Jaegerjaques sometime today and call goat face. That conversation is gonna fuckin' kill me," she grunted, a few of the men groaned. Shinji pouted, smacking the butt of his fork into the table.
"It won't be as fun without you there, can't you do it tomorrow?" He asked, whining like a child.
"Like the rest of us I do plan on returning home for the holidays, 'm leaving today," Ichigo said, standing her tray of muck completely tasteless.
"Later boys, duty calls." She stood continuing to ignore Shinji's pleads, and pathetic attempts at glaring as she left the mess hall. A sigh worked its way through her lips as she made her way to the intake office, it would be much easier to just ignore everything but she knew if she did that her father would begin scouring the entirety of japan for her. It wouldn't be the first time he'd have done this either. She went on a holiday once with a few friends from med school, it was right after they had passed their exams. A sort of celebration for passing. Ichigo hadn't told him because she wanted some peace and quiet, and when Shiro had said he didn't know her father had contacted the police to file a missing person's report. They had pulled all her friends in for questioning, her father convinced it was some kidnaping scheme. Ichigo had beat the crap out of him in front of the officer in charge of her case, screeching at him that he was an idiot and that it was embarrassing, what he had done. After that the police never took him seriously, only Shiro was allowed to file missing person's report on her due to that incident.
"Hey Ukitake," she mumbled, leaning up against his desk, already feeling drained from the mere thought of having to call goat face.
"Good morning Kurosaki-San, and what can I help you with today?" He asked, sweeping long silver blonde hair off his face, pleasant smile adorning his lips as always.
"Well ya could start be killing me but since I know you are against mindless violence I won't ask for that instead would ya mind retrieving my phone for me. I need to call my idiot father." A frown crossed his features briefly.
"You know I can't do that, pick up is at one. I'm sure contacting your father is important but it will have to wait," he explained, sounding serene as always. She sighed again.
"I can't wait that long, goat face has a bad habit of contacting the police when he can't find me. He's done it so many times that the police no longer take him seriously. What I'm worried about is him hiring a private investigator to find me, I really don't want that to happen. He will show up here himself and literally drag me out of here. Now could I please have my phone Ukitake? Promise I won't leave ya sight till one, I'll sit meself right here and argue," Ichigo said, close to begging. Ukitake frowned again but then sighed and headed off towards the back room where mobile phones were kept.
"You'll stay on that bench till one, yes?" He asked, she nodded frantically.
"Yeah, promise," she spat, grabbing for her phone and turning it on. The second she did, Ichigo was bombarded by missed calls and text messages from her father. As proof she showed Ukitake, he grimaced in sympathy finally understanding the desperation in his acts. Untangling her head phones, she plugged them in, slipping the ear buds in as she dialled her father's number. Hopefully Ukitake wouldn't be able to hear his yelling. Isshin was certainly going to go on about how his baby girl had abandoned him.
"Ich-"
"SHUT IT GOAT FACE," she shouted, deciding it was better to cut him off now.
"That is no way to talk to your father young lady, now where are you and why have you been ignoring my calls?"
"Fuck off, 'm almost 21 ya have no right to demand where I am. I don't need ya breathing down my neck every five seconds." She heard a sigh from the other end of the line. That was a sign he was going to burst into his hours long speech about parenthood and the duty to one's child. With a roll of her eyes she steeled herself for the speech she had practically memorised.
