Ookay! Here we go (I love that song) Next chapter. We're going to enter kind of a lull more or less for a few chapters of more of the daily life arc of the tv series. Then after that we get to the good stuff when they (finally) enter the digital world. At that point I will final stop pretending like you guys don't know what's going on (cuz lets admit it, you all at least have somewhat of an idea) and things will get good, but bear with me for now – this chapter is mostly just covering a few bases. But first – responding to reviewers!
The God Name Emiya Shirou – I know, I can't wait for Angemon either, but I kinda have to try and take things slow. I mean, Poyomon has to Digivolve twice before that's even a conceivable possibility. :(
DigiXBot996384 – Yeah, it has been a while *sweatdrop* and the whole reveal is going to be something, that's for sure, although I think I'm going to have to put it off for a little while longer
Ayelet Vestrit – thank you. I think I'll be okay, I just needed to… to take things easy for a bit. Thank you. *bows* you're extremely sweet
Fanakatsuki – Yeah, I just kinda was like – okay! Let's do this! So the update was kind of out of nowhere. Yeah, I think slowing it down will probably be a good for me regardless, hopefully it will help me get less writers block
Loki921 – okay, this is the story of east screwing up. I was sure I had the name right, but then I went back and checked. Nope – it's not DNAmon, it's apoclamon. I'm going to go back and fix that, sorry for the confusion *sweatdrop*
Puberty7756 – Um, yeah, I'm hoping I can manage this chunk well and in character… we'll see. And for the last part of your question, look at the answer above (I screwed up)
MoonLitIsle – sadly the reunion of TK with the others is still a long ways away, but the reunion of the others with each other is relatively soon
SerinasHarmony – sorry, crazy late again *sweatdrop*
Ricku28 – thanks. I've technically been thinking of this fic for, like, at least four or five years. …are you trying to hint at something? ;)
Guest – here is finally is!
Redandgreen – 1. Yes 2. My crappy excuse is in this chapter 3. Well, I kind of like Rika with Henry, or while writing this with TK, but neither of those are going to actually happen in this fic, in fact, this fic is pretty romance free more or less. Maybe some Joe and Mimi stuff, and some Sora Matt stuff… but I think that's all. 4. Uh… I didn't even think of them… uh… *sweatdrop* Senpai notices you!
Scott Cathon – YOU tend to see characters ARE more AMAZING when you are open to them
Zero Unit RGB – yeah… I'm running out of reasons to make them NOT just be like – there is no way you are not TK… GAH!
Opps – on some scale he does, but not fully what it is. Yeah, TK feels alone sometimes.
FlightfootKeyseeker - … pretend he did say he was amnesiac. You have exposed my plot errors
Oathkeeper16 – Yeah, most of those things get really answered later, in the digital world. The TK Yamaki encounter will probably be waaay later, closer to the ending, it will be intense.
"Okay, well, I bet you're wondering why I brought you all here today." I heard Rika groan.
"Can we skip the clichés? I assume that this is for something more important." Today I woke up to a note left by Takato asking me to meet up in the park where he keeps Guilmon, and that the others would be there. Sure enough Henry and Rika had both shown up as well, along with Renamon, Terriermon, Guilmon (obviously), and Calumon had appeared at some point.
"Terriermon!" Henry shouted, peering around Rika at his partner. "Stop squishing Poyomon's cheeks!"
"Aw, Henry, I'm just playing." You see Rika roll her eyes a bit, and Takato attempted to regain the attention of the small group.
"Anyway, I think that we need to talk about some of the things that have been going on in the last little bit…" He looks uncertain at his authority, but we were all paying attention. I felt my stomach drop a bit as I saw where this is going. "TK…" All of their faces turned towards me, faces that I had come to know so well. "Apoclamon, well, he seemed to know you, on a personal level…" There's no way out of this, and I didn't think a dumb excuse like 'I don't know him at all, I was just trash talking him like an old enemy because that's what I do to everyone' was going to fly. It was a stupid excuse anyway. It sounded like something Davis would try to use. (I pretend I didn't feel a little homesick at the thought)
"Well… it's a long story…. And I'm not sure on the details." The three of them continued to give me their undivided attention, and it made me even more nervous. "I… I think I come from an… alternate universe or something? Or maybe from the past? I'm not really sure." Takato's eyes were growing progressively bigger, and I realized I had pretty much started your story right in the lovely middle. "Okay. I'm getting ahead of myself." I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
"Okay. So. The day that you found me on your doorstep?" Takato gave a small nod. "I am going to be completely honest when I say, I have no idea how I got there. Well… next to no idea. I've known about Digimon for almost all my life." Rika raised an eyebrow, but didn't interrupt. "When I was little my friends and I fell into the digital world – where all Digimon live. That's where I met my partner, Poyomon. A lot of stuff happened. It's… it's a really long story. But eventually after a lot of problems we saved the world… and we also fought Apoclamon… or we thought we did. I guess we didn't really do the job well enough. They do say anything on the internet is never truly gone." I paused for a moment to take in their reactions.
Takato had his mouth open slightly, and his eyebrows were probably a flying hazard for airplane with how far up they were. Henry looked like he was trying to hide his shock and slightly disbelief written on his face, but was failing. Rika, naturally, had a look of cool calm on her face, thinking behind her intelligent eyes, reserving judgment until I was done. In the background I could hear the Digimon still playing.
"Digimon aren't supposed to be in the real world. Or at least, that's how it was for us. So after, all we had been through together… they went back to the Digital World without us." I frowned, remembering how that had felt. How much I had cried in the proceeding days and weeks and months. "A little while after that there was this whole thing with the internet that happened, and we got to see them again, for a heartbeat, but after that all of our contact was cut off. I grew up without Poyomon, and everyone else matured without their partners too. Years later some new Digidestines were chosen, and I was one of them. I got to go back, and we saved the world another time, and it was the greatest. Even though everything had been chaotic at the time, at least I had my partner at my side. At least I had my closest friend with me." My shoulders slumped suddenly. "But it all just repeated itself. We won, we were triumphant, and then they were all wrenched from out grip. They were all taken back into the Digital World, and my digivice, it went silent again. I was terrified, and felt all alone."
"After that it didn't take long for our little group of friends to just splinter apart and tear at the seams. For two years I was drowning in a very dark lake. But then, a few months ago, I heard a noise in my room. It was my digivice, and it was uttering this ear splitting, headache inducing scream. I had picked it up and held it for the first time in what seemed like forever. After that there was this huge light that came from it, and, well, I woke up at your house." I gestured to Takato. A tense silence hung in the air, as my three friends all seemed to take a moment to absorb the information and come to their own conclusions. Rika was, naturally, the first to speak up.
"So, saying that I choose to believe your story, and I'm not saying I do, bucket hat, but why didn't you tell us this in the first place. Or when you found your partners egg?" I gulped, and sheepishly rubbed the back of my neck.
"Well, I didn't think you guys would believe me, and I wasn't really sure why I was here, I didn't want to mess with things I that I shouldn't be messing with. And then when I decided not to tell you, I wasn't how to just… come out and admit that I had this huge secret." I looked at her with pleading eyes, and after an intense staring contest, she let out a sigh.
"Sometimes I wonder that exactly you keep in your skull, because it can't be a brain. We are in this crazy thing together, TK, Of course you could, and should tell us this kind of thing."
"Yeah, we're your friends TK, we're going to stand by you no matter what." Takato said with such conviction that I actually managed to muster a small smile.
"It certainly does explain a lot of things." Henry said, while nodding to himself. " Why you accepted Digimon so much, the whole thing with Mephistomon, all that stuff. " Mt heart fluttered in my chest, little a little bird flapping it's wings for the first time in a long while.
"You guys believe me? And forgive me?" I asked, hope springing forth. Henry let out a small laugh.
"If there's one thing I've learned, is that there's some pretty crazy things happening these days."
"Of course we forgive you, idiot." Rika said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "The real question now is what you are here for." I gave a little shrug.
"From what I can tell, it's just to help you."
"Well, we should plan on taking this whole Tamers thing more seriously." Takato said with enthusiasm. "I have a feeling that there's way more of those Deva's in store for us. I was thinking of taking patrol shifts like –"
"Poyo~"
"Hey, come back here little guy!" Calumon was chasing after Poyomon, who looked like he was getting a good exercise in running around. Henry glanced at his watch and balked.
"Man Takato, I hate to cut this thing short, but I had my kendo practice ten minutes, and sensei won't be pleased if I'm late!" He hurried to his feet. "Terriermon, come on, we have to go!" Terriermon joined Calumon and Poyomon in their game of tag, and looked up in dismay.
"Aw, Henry, can't we stay for just a few more minutes!"
"No, I'm going to be late!" Terriermon plodded over and jumped into Henry's waiting arms. As Henry dashed off, Rika stood up as well.
"I should probably go too, my mom's visiting and said she wanted to have some sort of a mother-daughter outing for lunch." She gave a shiver as if the idea repulsed her. "I need time to prepare myself. Renamon?" There was a blur, and then Renamon appeared in the nearby tree. "We're going now."
"Of course, Rika." Renamon gave a small nod, and disappeared once more. I looked at me and Takato. And then there were two.
"So," Takato began, looking over at Poyomon playing with Guilmon, blowing an impressive amount of bubbles. "You lost him twice?" I gave a small, sad nod.
"Three if you count the little internet fiasco a few months after the first adventure, and four time if you count… never mind." I wasn't in the mood to think about losing Angemon all those years ago. Not today.
"That must have been hard." Takato said, and he was looking at Guilmon like he was really trying to imagine a life without him, and like he was failing miserably.
"It was awful." I decided to leave the words we were both thinking unsaid. The wondering and frightening thoughts of what would happen at the end of this journey, wherever this journey was going, and what would happen to Guilmon, to Poyomon, to Renamon, Terriermon, Calumon… all of them. Would they go away again. And for perhaps the first time, I wondered if I would ever find my way back home.
"Po~yo?" Poyomon popped onto my lap, tilting his head (although it was more like titling the top half of his body) to the side curiously. I gave him a small pat. We would figure it out.
oOo
"Henry." Henry halted his practicing, turning to look at his sensei. He was a surprisingly a surprisingly younger adult, probably in his late twenties or early thirties, but he was extraordinary with kendo, and was incredibly wise.
"Yes, sensei?"
"Henry you seem… distracted. It is key to be composed and focused, have a sense of calm as your center." Henry nodded. He knew that, it was just, he had a lot to think about recently. The elder man eyes him up and down for a brief moment, and then gestured to another room. "Let me give you a cup of tea, and we can talk. You seem like you have a lot of your mind."
A little while later Henry found himself sitting down with his teacher, both sipping cups of tea. His teacher, looking as calm as ever, waited patiently for when he was ready to speak.
"Do you know anything, about Deva's?" Henry asked. He couldn't exactly tell him everything, but he could at least try to gain more information on what was going on. His teacher got a strange look on his face, before slowly nodding.
"I have heard legends of Deva's. That there once were evil demons called the Asura, and that the Deva's defeated them."
"So the Deva's are good?" Henry asked, staring into his tea.
"I wouldn't say that." His teacher countered. "Good and evil are rather interchangeable, depending on your view. To the Asura, I can most assure you the Deva's seemed to be the evil ones, and they themselves the hero's who were destroyed. I had a friend once, when I was your age, maybe younger, who had very unique views of evil. The thought of evil made him angry, and upset, it was a frightening side of him that I was lucky to rarely see, but he had rather unique views on it as well, not entirely despising evil or condoning it. It was a type of view that I didn't understand then, and to be quite honest I still don't think I get it." His teacher gave a small laugh to himself.
They sit there and make idle conversation for the next half hour, and both hearts end feeling much more healed over than before.
oOo
"Hey, Izzy, I was wondering if there would be a way if you track the signature on my phone that Omnimon left." Tai announced as he strode into the apartment building, putting his jacket up on a hook. The lights were out, but that wasn't that unusual, Izzy usually kept to his computer these days.
However, when he came to the door, and there was no lights shining from underneath the door, alarm bells went off. Tai stopped in his tracks, and listened. No sounds of a computer. No tapping of a keyboard. The house was completely silent. No snores, no nothing.
He opened to door to find the computer shut off completely – something Izzy almost never did, preferring to keep his tabs up so that he could pick up from where he left off. Tai dashed to the bedroom, wrenching open the door without even knocking as a preface. Nothing, empty. After scouring the house, Tai came up empty handed. Nothing, and no sign as to where Izzy had gone or why he had left.
Tai felt a pit in his stomach.
After so much nothing for so many years, hearing Omnimon's voice… change was in the air. He needed Izzy here with him to figure things out. This was a code red if there ever was one. In his pocket, he felt his buzz vibrate against him, and pulled it, his eyes desperately hoping that it was Izzy telling him what was up.
Wrong number Izzy.
But right number for someone else.
Things were changing.
Well, we're going to make that it for this chapter. Just another reminder for those of you who will ask – Apoclamon is the DNAmon I mentioned in the previous chapter – I screwed up the names and at this point I'm too lazy to go back and edit it (I am far too lazy for my own existence) Well, this chapter was sadly very boring :( but at least now it's out of the way. Just setting stuff up.
