Heaven's gates won't open up for me
With these broken wings I'm fallin' and all I see is you
These city walls ain't got no love for me
I'm on the ledge of the eighteenth story
And, oh, I scream for you come please,
I'm callin' and all I need from you, hurry, I'm fallin', I'm fallin'
Show me what it's like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And I'll show you what I can be
Say it for me, say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me
Say it if it's worth saving me
-Savin' Me by Nickelback
I cut my drive time down from eight hours to about six. I had yet to get a hold of Derek and with as many panicked voice mails as I'd left on his phone I'm sure the inbox was completely full. Neither Scott or Stiles were answering me either and my mood flipped back and forth between panicked and pissed. I knew the two of them were probably in class since it was nearing 11 o'clock in the morning but they could've at least texted me.
I pulled into my apartment just after 11 looking for any sign that Derek had been here and found none. I ran quickly down to the bar searching for Anna, who I found in the back stocking the fridge.
"Anna has Derek been here at all today?" I asked hurriedly. She looked up at me confused by my panicked voice.
"No I haven't seen him. Why?" Once the words were out of her mouth I spun around and ran back out to my truck ignoring her calls.
My next stop was the Hale house praying he was there and cursing the mating bond for not being fully developed so that I could find him.
When I discovered he wasn't there my panic kicked into over drive. He had texted me the night before telling me he was going out looking for the Alpha. Maybe he had lost his phone and that's why he wasn't answering. Ignoring the voice in the back of my head telling me he probably wasn't answering because he was near dead in a ditch some where I took off back towards my apartment.
Rushing back inside I made my way to my laptop logging into the account for his phone. Finding a tiny bit of humor and thanking whatever deity was out there for the fact that he was still using his high school password for everything.
I quickly pulled up the gps feature and sent the location to my phone before taking off to find it. Twenty minutes later I pulled up next to a small alley in the industrial district. I got out of the truck slamming the door and taking off down the alley. I dialed Derek's number again waiting to hear a ring or a vibrate. I heard it and followed the sound to a dumpster. Hanging up my phone I checked around the side and my heart dropped.
His phone was on the ground next to a small puddle of blood. I reached down grabbing his phone pocketing it before reaching a hand out and dipping my finger in the blood. I gasped as I once again heard a gunshot in my mind and the mark on arm started burning and glowing a brighter purple. I wiped the blood off on my jeans severing the connection and looked around for a few more minutes. I scowled when I found the bullet Derek must have dislodged from his arm.
"Fucking Argents." I hissed out heading back to my truck my next destination clear in my mind.
My brakes screeched to a halt in front of the Argent's house. I tucked my pistol into the back of my pants as I got out of the truck slamming the door stalking towards the stupid cunt who was smirking at me in the drive way.
"Where the fuck is he Kate?" I ground out.
"Well, well, well. Look at you all grown up." She smirked out.
"Cut the shit. Where the fuck is Derek?"
"No idea what you're talking about. I just got into town. If you see him let him know I said hello." She said with a wink turning towards the house. She should've known better, really. I took a step forward quickly. I grabbed her by the back of her hair, pulled and slammed her body against the Tahoe in the drive way.
"You better fucking pray I find him alive you stupid bitch. Or I'm coming back for you and you won't know what hit you. I am not someone you want to fucking mess with." Kate laughed at me.
"Wow looks like someone got a backbone in the time I've been gone." I slammed her head into the window.
"I've always had a backbone. I just was always too smart to play all my cards." I ground out just as the door opened.
"Let her go Cora." Chris called out from the door way one hand behind his back. I tsked at him.
"I told you to leave Derek alone Chris. If your psycho cunt of a sister killed him I'll be coming for you. I guarantee you there won't be any place on this earth you can hide." I told him pulling Kate back away from the car and shoving her forward before backing away from them and climbing back in my truck.
Just as I was pulling away from the Argents my phone started going off.
"You know, if I don't answer the first ten times, I'm not likely to answer the next 20 times Cora." Stiles told me as I answered the phone.
"Have you seen Derek?" I asked getting straight to the point.
"Is that seriously why you've been calling me all morning? Of course, I haven't seen Derek. He scares me. I'm going to continue avoiding him for as long as I can." He told me.
"Ugh I really need yo-" I was cut off by the 16 year old.
"Oh, my God. You've gotta be kidding me. This guy's everywhere!" I perked up at that. I heard a door open and shut over the phone.
"Stiles what's going on?" I questioned. I didn't get a response, but I could hear Scottie boy's annoyed voice drift through the speaker.
"What the hell? What are you doing here?" I sighed in relief at the voice that drifted through next.
"I was shot." Derek's pained voice filtered through. My heart clenched at the obvious pain in his voice, causing me to slam down on the accelerator heading towards the direction of the school.
"He's not looking so good, dude." Stiles said into the phone, but I wasn't sure if he was talking to me or not.
"Stiles you need to get him out of the open." I tried telling the boy who just ignored me. I was getting tired of them doing that.
"Why aren't you healing?" Scott asked.
"I can't. It was - it was a different kind of bullet." Derek's voice barely made it through the speaker of the phone.
"A silver bullet?" Stiles questioned, and I snorted at the notion of that being true.
"No, you idiot." Derek replied and I could picture the annoyed glare he shot at the younger boy.
"Wait, wait. That's what she meant when she said you had 48 hours." At that moment, I decided it was best for me to just hang up and concentrate on driving considering I was about five minutes away from the school. Right as I was turning onto the school road Stiles pulled out and I performed a perfect, albite illegal, U-turn to follow him feeling that Derek was in the car.
I pulled out my phone once more sending a text to Stiles. Take him to my apartment.
Fifteen minutes later I pulled into my parking space right next to Stiles. I jumped quickly from my truck and headed around to the passenger side of the Jeep. I pulled open the door, taking in the sight of Derek's pale and sweaty face I almost started crying at how bad he looked. However, the conversation I opened the door too just pissed me off.
"I can't take you up to Cora's apartment?" Stiles asked in a voice that clearly showed he thought Derek was stupid, which I was leaning towards agreeing with at that point.
"Not when I can't protect myself or Cora." The wolf sassed right back.
"Good thing that I can take care of myself and you. Get your ass out of the car." I told him. Derek glared at me refusing to move.
"All right. What happens if Scott doesn't find your little magic bullet? Hmm? Are you dying?" Stiles asked irritated. Derek and I continued to glare at each other. "Doesn't Cora have something that can help? She's a hunter."
"Not yet. I have a last resort." Derek answered at the same time as I barked out a response.
"I don't know what kind of wolfs bane it was. I need the bullet to be sure we treat him right instead of making him worse."
"What do you mean? What last resort?" Stiles questioned irritation masking the obvious curiosity in his voice. At the same time, Derek broke his glare from mine to take his jacket off exposing the wound on his left arm. In the same place as the mark on my arm was a bullet sized hole oozing an almost black blood with a black tint spreading out through the veins on his arm.
"Oh, my God. What is that? Oh, is that contagious? You know what, you should probably just get out." Stiles gagged out, my glare quickly turned to him.
"Start the car. Now." Derek wheezed out.
"Stiles don't you dare. Derek get out of the fucking Jeep." I said grabbing his arm.
"I don't think you should be barking orders with the way you look, okay? In fact, I think if I wanted to, I could probably drag your little werewolf ass out into the middle of the road and leave you for dead." Derek and I both turned to scowl at Stiles.
"Start the car, or I'm gonna rip your throat out - With my teeth." Derek growled eyes flashing blue. I rolled my eyes.
"Alright I'm done fucking around." I told the two before leaning into the Jeep over Derek and snagging Stiles keys out of the ignition.
"Hey!" Stiles cried as Derek tried to grab them from me, but I smacked his hand away and threw the keys into my pocket. I looked between both boys.
"Now we both know I could easily kick both of your asses right now. So, get. Out. Of. The. Goddamn. Jeep." I spoke seething with irritation.
Once we made it up and into my apartment, I helped Derek to the couch.
"Stiles go get the first aid kit out of the bathroom, and try getting ahold of Scott we need that bullet as soon as possible." Stiles nodded and rushed off. I turned towards Derek and examined his arm.
"How bad is it?' I asked. "And don't lie to me. I know it's bad or this wouldn't be showing up." I pulled up the sleeve of my shirt and exposed the purple mark. Derek reached a hand out towards my cheek and pulled my face closer towards his.
"I'll be fine."
"You bet your ass you will be. If you die I'll find a way to bring you back and kill you again myself. Jesus Christ, I leave for a few-" He cut me off by pulling me the rest of the way to him and giving me a chaste kiss on the lips. Stiles' voice in the doorway of the living room had us breaking apart.
"Ewe. OH. MY. GOD. Thanks, I think I'm going to have nightmares now." Stile complained. Derek sent a glare towards the boy and I just rolled my eyes getting up to grab the first aid kit from him.
"Quit being such a drama queen Stilinski." I told him grabbing the kit and heading back to my spot next to Derek on the couch. I pulled out some gauze pads, some normal saline and some medical tap.
"This might hurt." I told him apologetically, then poured the normal saline into the wound. He clenched his fist and I watched his eyes shift blue as my mark twinged. I reached up and ran a hand through his hair down towards his neck and began massaging it lightly trying to comfort him.
"I'm sorry babe." I told him. Stiles made gagging sounds behind me. I grabbed a few gauze pads and taped them over the wound, then wet another with normal saline and used it to clean up the blood that had dripped down his arm. I examined the black marks as I went. My eyes began to water slightly at the sight of how far they had already spread in the 12 hours since it had happened.
I quickly grabbed up the bloody pieces of gauze off the couch and went into the kitchen to throw them away. I threw them angrily in the trash and grabbed a cigarette lighting it angrily trying to figure out how I was going to fix Derek if Scott didn't find the bullet.
Are you okay?" Stiles asked coming into the kitchen and taking a seat at the table. I nodded blowing out the smoke from my cigarette.
"As long as Scott does his job and gets that bullet I will be." Stiles nodded.
"What's going on with you and sour wolf?" I chuckled at the nickname.
"He's my best friend." I told Stiles with a shrug. He scoffed.
"That kiss was more than best friends." I sighed stubbing my cigarette out.
"Derek and I... it's a complicated thing. We've been best friends since we were seven and recently something happened that changed what we are." I told him vaguely. "It's a long story." He kicked his feet up onto the chair beside him.
"Well we've got a while. Scott's not answering his phone."
"What did you learn about mates in your werewolf research?" The boy gave me a confused look.
"Nothing really. Just that they mate for life. I think that's what I saw." I nodded, shifting so my arms were crossed over my chest.
"Werewolves have the ability to choose their mates. When they find the person, they want to spend their life with a bite is exchanged during the climax of sexual activity, it's called a claiming or a mating bite. This creates a link or bond, whatever you want to call it. Through the bond, they can feel each other's emotions no matter the distance and locate the other. Their scents meld together to let other wolves know that they belong to each other." I explained. "There's been rumors that some of the stronger bonded wolves can read each other's thoughts, but that's usually with wolves that have been together for like 20 years or something, and generally with Alpha couples. There have been a few cases where when one becomes an Alpha the other will as well because they are so connected and in tune with the other."
"What happens when a wolf mates with a human?" He asked curiously.
"Generally, the bond is just weaker, because the human is the only one technically claimed." He nodded.
"That makes sense. So, what Derek came back to Beacon Hills and you guys just decided you wanted to be together forever? I was under the impression you were with that Dean guy." Stiles stated curiously. I looked up towards the door way when I heard a small growl and saw Derek leaning heavily against the doorway. I walked to him quickly and helped him to a chair at the table.
"No. Dean and I haven't been together for a while now. As for Derek and I, it didn't really happen like it normally does. Normally it's a conscious choice between two people, like a marriage but more final. You can't get rid of a claim unless one dies."
"So, you guys didn't choose this? How does that work?" I noticed Derek's skin was abnormally hot and he was beginning to sweat. I walked to the sink and pulled out a wash cloth wetting it down with cool water and grabbed a glass of water and a couple of ibuprofens from the cupboard above the sink. I walked back over and gave them to Derek who took the pills and the glass of water drinking greedily. I placed the cloth over the back of his neck before sitting next to him and answering Stiles.
"We got intimate," Stiles scrunched up his nose in disgust, "and his wolf took over and claimed me. We didn't even realize what had happened until we woke up a few hours later, both pretty caught up in the moment. We didn't even know it could happen like that. That's why I've been gone the last few days. I went to my Uncle Bobby's to do some research."
"What'd you find out?" Derek finally spoke up completely focused on me.
"What do you know about True Mates?" I countered. He scoffed.
"It's just a myth."
"Werewolves are real, and everyone thinks they are myths." Stiles stated. "What's a True Mate?"
"It's basically the werewolf equivalent of soul mates. Think about it Derek it makes sense. Most wolves feel the urge to mate with anyone they fall in love with. You loved Paige," Derek winced at the memory of the girl. "and you said yourself you've never felt the urge to mate with anyone before."
"Why was I even able to fall in love with anyone if you're my True Mate?" He asked still skeptical.
"I'm not sure. My best guess? Because I'm human so the bond was dulled down. Think about it though. We've always been more comfortable with each other than anyone else. You pretty much kept to yourself in first grade until I moved here. Even your mom was surprised when you asked for me to come over for the first time. You've never been a social person. You've been angrier than ever since the fire, but you've been the same as always with me. You've always felt like home to me, and you were the only one who could get through to me after both of my parents died." I could see the gears turning in both males' heads next to me. "Not to mention the whole your wolf claimed me without either of us even discussing it."
"It makes sense." Stiles stated. "I mean you said that normal mating bonds are dulled between wolves and humans. So, it would make sense that a True Mate bond would be dulled and cause you guys to not even realize it right away. Is there any difference between the bond with True Mates?" I nodded.
"It's said that True Mates develop the ability to read minds quicker. They are also the ones that when one becomes an Alpha so does the other automatically. In an interspecies pair, I found that if an Alpha that wasn't their mate tried to bite and turn them then the human mate would reject the bite and die." I told the two.
"What else?" Derek asked.
"If one dies once the bond is matured, after the first full moon shared together, so does the other…" Stiles gaped at me.
"So, if Scott doesn't find the bullet you're going to die too? How does that even work." Stiles exclaimed. I shook my head.
"We haven't had a full moon together yet. It's basically that the trauma of a bond that profound breaking takes such a toll on the body that within three days the other mate's heart just gives out." I said glancing at Derek whose face paled. "On the plus side, they can heal each other from non-wolfs bane wounds by licking them." Stiles made a disgusted face while, Derek smirked slightly.
Three hours later Derek was continuing to get worse and I was pacing around the living room. Stiles texted Scott who was apparently stuck at dinner with the Argents and still hadn't found the bullet yet.
"Would you stop pacing?" Stiles asked annoyed looking up from the game that he was playing on my PS4. I ignored the boy.
"I'm going over there." I stated.
"No." Derek ground out.
"Yeah, what're you gonna do? Knock on the door and say, "Hi yes, I need the bullet that you shot Derek with so I can fix my werewolf boyfriend before he dies" yeah that'll go over really well." Stiles stated with an eye roll.
"No, I'm going to bust in their guns out and threaten them until they give me what I want. Wouldn't be the first time I've threatened them today." I told them murmuring the last part.
"You did what?!" Derek exclaimed angrily. I rolled my eyes.
"Oh, don't pretend you wouldn't do the same thing if you were in my position. I was desperate and I couldn't find you!"
"Cora, you can't keep drawing attention to yourself with them! I don't want them finding out about the claim."
"It was covered up."
"I don't care. The more chances you're around them, especially trying to get them off my back, the more suspicious of you they'll be and the more reason they'll want to come after you whether they know about the mark or not!"
"I can take care of myself Derek."
"You're not fucking invincible Cora."
"Neither are you Derek! Or did you forget you're the one currently dying." I snapped.
"She's got a point." Stiles stated. Derek growled.
"Shut up Stiles!" Stiles threw his hands up in the air before turning back to his game. "I have a last resort." Derek stated standing slowly from the couch. He started walking towards the kitchen swaying slightly on his feet. I rolled my eyes and went to his side knowing he wouldn't ask for help. I pulled his arm over my shoulder and let him lead me to where he was trying to go.
"What last resort?" Stiles asked following after us like a puppy. Derek headed towards the library and I curiously let him. I set him down in the chair by my desk.
"Get the first aid kit." Derek ordered Stiles. Stiles looked to me for confirmation and I just nodded my head. The spastic boy ran from the room to grab the kit from the living room.
"What's your plan?" I asked curiously.
"Where's your machete?" Derek asked.
"Why?" I countered curiously. Derek threw his arm up on the desk allowing me to see just how far the poison had spread. It was about a hand width away from his shoulder and that's when I realized what exactly he wanted.
"Are you sure?" I asked reaching under the desk to press a button causing the bookshelf behind us to pop open exposing the hidden cabinet I had for all my knife-like hunting supplies. There were dozens of daggers most made of different metals for dealing with different supernatural creatures, some had different sigils carved in them. There was also four or five machetes of different sizes and blade types. I grabbed one that I knew was the sharpest. It had a bronze handle with my initials engraved in it and leather wrapping around it for better gripping.
"Holy shit!" Stiles exclaimed as he walked in and noticed the array of weapons. I slammed the cabinet shut. He strode over and placed the first aid kit on the desk. Noticing Derek's arm, he made a disgusted face.
"Okay. You know, that really doesn't look like anything some Echinacea and a good night of sleep couldn't take care of." Stiles stated.
"When the infection reaches my heart, it'll kill me." Derek told him with a glare. I rolled my eyes at the two.
""Positivity" just isn't in your vocabulary, is it?" Stiles quipped.
"If he doesn't get here with the bullet in time - Last resort."
"You keep saying that. What last resort?"
"You're gonna cut off my arm."
"Oh, my God. What if you bleed to death?" Stiles cried out panicked at the idea.
"It'll heal if it works." Derek said tying a tourniquet around his arm.
"Ugh. Look - I don't know if I can do this."
"Why not?" Derek asked irritated.
"Don't worry Stiles. I'll do it." They both sent me surprised looks. "You really think he's going to be able to do it D? You know how hard it is to cut straight through bone? I guarantee you he doesn't. But I do. Stiles I just need you to help hold his arm still." Stiles paled.
"Yeah still not gonna be able to do it."
"Why not?" It was me asking this time however.
"Well, because of the cutting through the flesh, the sawing of the bone, and especially the blood!"
"You faint at the sight of blood?" Derek scoffed.
"No, but I might at the sight of a chopped off arm!"
"You're gonna have to get used to stuff like this eventually, Stiles. Your bff is a werewolf." I told him matter of factly.
"All right, fine. How about this? Either you cut off my arm, or I'm gonna cut off your head." I rolled my eyes and smacked Derek on the arm.
"Okay, you know what, I'm so not buying your threats any" Stiles started before Derek reached across the desk and grabbed him by the front of his shirt and pulled him menacingly forward. I thought poor Stiles was going to piss himself so I moved forward to separate the two.
"Oh, my God. Okay. All right, bought, sold. Totally. I'll do it. I'll do it." Stiles yelled. I watched as Derek paled more before leaning over the side of the desk.
"What? What are you doing? Holy God, what the hell is that?" Stiles exclaimed as a black substance spewed from Derek's mouth onto my floor.
"It's his body trying to heal itself." I said leaning closer to Derek and rubbing a hand across his back.
"Well, it's not doing a very good job of it." I opened my mouth to retort to the boy but was cut off by Derek.
"Now. You gotta do it now."
"Look, honestly, I don't think I can."
"Just do it!" Derek yelled. I grabbed the machete and Stiles reached out grabbing Derek's forearm and holding to the table while I lined up my swing.
"Oh, my God. Okay, okay. Oh, my God. All right, here we go!" Stiles chanted breathing heavily. We were stopped by Scott's voice as he entered the apartment.
"Stiles! Cora!" He yelled.
"Scott?" Stiles questioned relief evident in his voice. Scott entered the office and his eyes went huge at the sight of Stiles holding A shirtless Derek's arm down and me with my machete cocked back ready to swing down onto my mate's arm.
"What the hell are you doing?" Scott exclaimed bewildered.
"Oh, you just prevented a lifetime of nightmares." Stiles breathed out and I relaxed my arm and set the machete off to the side.
"Did you get it?" Derek questioned. Scott nodded and pulled the bullet out of his pocket and handed it to Derek.
"What are you gonna do with it?" Stiles asked curiously.
"I'm gonna - I'm gonna -" Derek started to say before he passed out and fell to the floor. I cussed and dropped down beside him.
"No. No, no, no, no. Find that bullet!" I hollered at the two boys before trying to wake Derek.
"Derek. Derek, come on, wake up. Scott, what the hell are we gonna do?" Stiles yelled from behind me.
"I don't know! I can't reach it." Scott replied as I began shaking Derek and smacking his face trying to get him up. Nothing was working.
"He's not waking up! I think he's dying. I think he's dead!" Stiles narrated from behind me.
"Stiles shut the fuck up! Derek! C'mon baby wake up. Please D!" I cried.
"Oh! I got it! I got it!" Scott yelled. I jumped up from Derek reaching for my lighter on the table.
"Please don't kill me for this. Ugh! Ow! God!" I heard Stiles say and as I looked he hauled back and cold cocked Derek across the face before quickly shaking out his hand in pain. Derek sat up quickly and Stiles and I helped him stand.
"Give me -" Derek started as Scott held the bullet out towards him.
"Get him to the chair!" I directed Stiles. We threw Derek down into the chair and he ripped the bullet from its casing with his teeth tapping the wolf's bane out of the bullet and onto the table. I lit it on fire and once the flames died scooped it into my hand before shoving into the wound on Derek's arm not giving him time to think about how much it would hurt. Derek contorted in pain and screamed falling from the chair. I squatted down next to him and watched as the lines receded towards the bullet wound before the wound itself closed and healed. I looked to my arm and the matching mark disappeared.
"That - Was - Awesome! Yes!" Stiles exclaimed pumping an arm in the air. I smiled and shook my head. Only Stiles would think that something like that was awesome after spazzing out about it not moments before.
"Are you okay?" Scott asked Derek. I reached a hand out and pulled the older wolf from the floor before throwing my arms around his midsection and clinging on for dear life.
"Well, except for the agonizing pain." Derek remarked placing one arm around me and rubbed the hand up and down my back in a comforting gesture.
"I'm guessing the ability to use sarcasm is a good sign of health." Stiles remarked causing me to snort out a laugh. I placed a soft kiss against Derek's chest and spun around towards Scott who had started to speak.
"Okay, we saved your life, which means you're gonna leave us alone, you got that? And if you don't, I'm gonna go back to Allison's dad, and I'm gonna tell him everything –" He was cut off by Derek.
"You're gonna trust them? You think they can help you?" I scowled at my nephew.
"Well, why not? They're a lot freaking nicer than you are."
"Um excuse me. I'm your aunt. I'm telling you Scott the Argen-" Derek cut me off as well.
"I can show you exactly how nice they are."
"What do you mean?"
Twenty minutes later we pulled up outside Beacon Hills crossing home in my truck. Scott, Derek, and I all piled out and headed inside. Stiles had went home after claiming he had already had enough excitement for one night.
"What are we doing here?" Scott asked as we followed behind Derek. Neither of us answered as we made it into the room. Derek stood a few feet away from the man in the wheelchair and I headed right into the room and checked on the flowers in the windowsill that I had left the week prior.
"Who is he?"
"My uncle. Peter Hale."
"Is he - like you, a werewolf?"
"He was. Now he's barely even human. Six years ago, my sister and I were at school, and our house caught fire. 11 people were trapped inside. He was the only survivor." I moved towards Peter and placed a hand against his. Noting that they were cold I grabbed a blanket off his bed and draped it over his lap.
"So - What makes you so sure that they set the fire?"
"Because they were the only ones other than me that knew what the Hales were." I told Scott finally speaking up a hard note in my tone.
"Well, then - They had a reason." I looked up glaring angrily at Scott. Derek strode towards Peter and I. He grabbed Peter's wheelchair and spun him so he was facing Scott exposing the scarred side of the man's face to my nephew.
"Like what? You tell me what justifies this." Derek told him.
"They say they'll only kill an adult, and only with absolute proof, but there were people in his family that were perfectly ordinary in that fire." I told Scott hoping he would get the point.
"This is what they do. And it's what Allison will do." Derek told him.
"What are you doing? How did you get in here?" I looked between Scott to see the redheaded nurse in the doorway that always creeped me out and scowled at her.
"We were just leaving." Derek responded.
We took Scott home before I took Derek back to my apartment.
"Where's your car?" I asked as we walked in.
"Out in the preserve." He responded stopping halfway into the kitchen. I nodded and headed towards my liquor cabinet and retrieved a bottle of bourbon. I held it up towards Derek who nodded his head in response to the unasked question. I grabbed two glasses and handed them to him.
"Put yourself to use and get me some ice." Once he returned to me with the glasses I poured some whiskey into both and took one glass for myself taking a large gulp. Derek quirked an eyebrow at me.
"You okay?" He asked. I nodded.
"You almost died today." He shrugged.
"I didn't though." I glared.
"That's not funny Derek. We both need to be careful." He nodded in agreement.
"So, True Mates huh?" He asked taking a sip of his whiskey. I nodded.
"Yeah and with everything I learned over the last few days, and after what happened today I decided that you're moving in here and I'm not taking no for an answer." Derek chuckled at me.
"I guess I can live with that. At least now I'll be able to keep a better eye on you." I scoffed.
"Yeah, I'm the one that needs looking after." Derek set his glass down and reached towards me pulling me into him.
"I'm sorry I scared you." He told me pushing my hair off my should and pulling my sleeve down slightly before brushing his thumb over my mark. I smiled up at him as I felt the sincerity of his apology through the bond. I leaned towards him and placed my lips against his relishing in the fact that we had gotten through today without him dying.
"Just don't do it again." I told him sternly before leaning forward and kissing him hard. I felt him smirk into the kiss as he picked up on the lust coursing through my body. I let out an unattractive squeak as he placed his hands under my butt and lifted me up. My legs instinctively wrapped around his waist and his lips trailed from mine down to his claim on my neck. I let out a low moan and ground my pelvis against his feeling his lust add to my own as he took off towards the bedroom.
