Yo, yo, yo drop me a review and let me know what ya think. Not sure how I feel about this chapter, but you know sometimes you get what you git and you don't throw a fit... in my case you just take whatever the hell spills out of your head and roll with it. Happy reading lovelies.
So breathe in so deep
Breathe me in
I'm yours to keep
And hold onto your words
'Cause talk is cheap
And remember me tonight when you're asleep
Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you
Over again
Don't make me change my mind
I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you is impossible to find
-Fall for You by Secondhand Serenade
"Take me to get foooooood." I whined at Derek as he sat on the couch watching the news sipping his coffee. He just ignored me smirking into his mug. "Deeerrreeekkk. I'm dying here." I watched the wolf roll his eyes before turning to look at me.
"Cora your fridge is full of food and you live above a restaurant you own for God's sake. Make something or go downstairs." I pouted throwing myself back into the cushions of the couch.
"But that's too much work." He gave me a deadpan look.
"And going out and getting food isn't?" I rolled my eyes.
"Stop being so fucking logical all the time." I told him getting up and heading to the kitchen. I poured myself a cup of coffee and headed over to the fridge looking for breakfast related foods. "Ohhhh D I forgot I got bacon!" I exclaimed happily pulling the bacon from the fridge. I grabbed a pan from the rack on the wall and set it on the stove throwing a couple pieces of bacon in before walking into the living room.
"What else are you making?" He asked curiously.
"Nothing."
"Cora, you can't just eat bacon."
"Watch me shit bag."
I stared hard at Derek as we were sitting on the couch. I was sitting cross-legged facing him and his attention was on the TV watching the basketball game I had recorded for him from the night before. I had apparently been distracting him too much. What kind of guy complains when their girlfriend just wants to show them love and appreciation by having the sex? Apparently, Derek. I was currently holding his hand onto the mating bite while I stared so intently at him.
"Can you tell what I'm thinking?" I asked narrowing my eyes at him trying to project my thoughts.
"That you should just give up?" He questioned never taking his eyes off the TV. I rolled my eyes.
"No. C'mon actually try." I really wished he would try for me.
"That you really wish I would try for you?" He asked. My eyes widened and I gasped excitedly.
"Holy shit D!" He turned to look at me a smirk on his face.
"Cora, I didn't read your mind. You literally just told me to try." I glared and threw his hand away from me.
"You suck. I'm going to work."
"Can I get a burger fries and a beer?" Derek asked sitting at the bar across from me. I nodded and headed back to the kitchen to put the order in. I grabbed a bottle of beer and dropped it off to him before heading over to refill some customer's drinks at the other end of the bar. I watched as a man in his late 20's with nice jeans and a flannel came in and sat directly next to Derek at the bar, even though there were empty seats all around that he could've sat in that wouldn't have put him directly next to the wolf. I chuckled to myself and Derek sent me a glare before side eyeing the man next to him. He took a sip of his beer and went back to paying attention to the game on the screen. I grabbed a rag off the counter and threw it over my shoulder on my way to the new guy.
"What can I get ya?" I asked. The man sent me a cocky smile.
"I'll have whisky and coke, beautiful." I nodded and turned around grabbing a glass and mixing the drink.
"Dammmn. Would you look at that view?" I heard the guy say to Derek with a laugh. I rolled my eyes and turned back to the two noticing Derek now glaring directly at the man who wasn't paying attention to my mate.
"That'll be $4.50." I told the man. He nodded and pulled out his wallet and handed me a five.
"I'll let you keep the change if you tell me your name." I quirked an eyebrow.
"You think 50 cents is gonna get me to tell ya my name?"
"No I think my good looks and charm are gonna get you to tell me your name." I snorted.
"You just keep telling yourself that." I turned to Derek.
"You want another beer D?" I asked noticing his one hand was wrapped tightly around the beer and the other was clenched into a fist on the bar top. He nodded finishing off the one in his hand quick. I took the empty bottle from him and tossed it in the bin. I grabbed a beer out of the cooler just as my cook Jessica called order up. I headed into the kitchen and took the plate from her and thanked her. I grabbed a cup of ranch out of the fridge for Derek's fries and went back out into the bar. I grabbed the beer on my way by and sat the plate down in front of Derek.
"That'll be 10$." Derek rolled his eyes at me and just dug into his food.
"This is my payment for putting up with you." He told me with a smirk. I chuckled.
"Okay."
"Damn girl that food looks almost as good as you." The man next to Derek told me sending me another cocky smile. I rolled my eyes.
"Do you need something?" I asked him irritated.
"Just your name and number sweetie." He told me with a wink. I rolled my eyes again and went to retort, but was cut off by one of the patrons at the other end of the bar.
"Can I get another beer Cora!?" I turned away from the douche sitting next to Derek and headed over and dropped the beer down.
"Here you go Russ. This ones on the house."
"Thanks doll." The older gentleman responded with a smile. I looked up as the door opened and noticed a regular couple come in and head to a booth over by the pool table. I waved at them and turned around making their normal drinks. A Jameson and coke for the guy and a UV Blue and lemonade for the girl.
"You two love birds eating tonight?" I asked them, setting their drinks down in front of them.
"Thanks Cora! No, we just went to that new Italian place for our anniversary, and figured we'd stop and see our favorite bar tender for a few before we went home." Rian, the girl, responded. I nodded.
"Alright flag me down if you need anything else. Happy anniversary!" I told them turning and heading back to the bar. Apparently, I walked a little too close to Mr. Cockhead because he reached out and grabbed my arm trying to pull me close. I grabbed his hand and twisted his wrist off me at the same time Derek stood and grabbed him by the shirt and hauled him off his chair slamming him up against the bar.
"You've gotta be the stupidest mother fucker I've ever met." I told him. The man pulled his fist back and went to punch Derek, but the werewolf tossed him to the ground before the punch could land.
"Get the hell out of my bar." I told the guy from my place next to Derek. The guy stood up angrily and went to go after Derek, but I stepped in front of him and threw an upper cut to his jaw. He stumbled back into a table looking shocked at the force of my hit.
"You stupid bitch!" He yelled standing up and trying to charge at me. I just rolled my eyes and side stepped as he tried to back hand me. Derek growled lowly from beside me. My wolf reached out grabbing the guy by the front of his shirt and head butted him. Derek pushed the guy away and he stumbled dazed. He shook his head and squared up as if to come at us again and I just cocked my hip and crossed my arms across my chest a bored look on my face.
"We can keep this up all night dude. So, you can either walk out now, or we can give you a beat down your great great grandkids are going to feel. Your choice." The guy looked between Derek and I, he apparently came to his senses because he turned around and headed out of the bar. The customers in the bar began to clap and catcall.
"Shut your hooligan mouths." I called out with a laugh. Derek chuckled and took his seat back at the bar picking a few fries off his plate and put them into his mouth. I leaned up to the bar next to him and he quirked an eyebrow at me.
"Yes?"
"You know it's really sexy when you defend my honor." I told him with a smirk. He rolled his eyes likely picking up the arousal that I was feeling towards him now.
"I swear to God you're the horniest person I've ever met in my life." I let out a loud laugh at that.
"Just for you mate." I told him with an Australian accent. He rolled his eyes, but I could see the smile playing on the edges of his mouth as he pulled me towards him and planted a hard kiss on my lips allowing me to feel the lust he was also feeling towards me.
A few hours later I was sitting at the bar with Derek drinking a glass of vodka and cranberry juice trying to talk Derek into taking me to see the next Avenger's movie that was going to be coming out.
"C'mon D. It'll be fun! I promise you'll like it."
"Oh yeah I'll love watching you drool all over yourself about Captain boyscout."
"I resent that very much. I don't drool. I just admire. Besides you know the only one I want in my pants is your handsome self."
"Quit trying to butter me up." I sighed. I turned towards my drink pouting. "We can go if you can go an hour without saying fuck." I smiled widely.
"Challenge accepted." I said as my phone dinged with a message from Stiles. I opened the message. "What the fuck?" I asked out loud. Derek let out a loud laugh and I scowled at him.
"That doesn't count. Look at this shit." I said showing him the phone.
MURDER at the movie store!
Derek, Scott, and I piled out of the Camaro and headed towards the back of the video store. I looked up to see the ladder was about a foot out of my reach.
"Need some help?" Derek asked with a smirk on his face. I scowled at him.
"No. Watch this Scottie." I said smiling at my nephew before taking a few steps back and running towards the building. Once I was just about under the ladder I leapt up and grabbed onto the bottom rung. I put my feet against the wall and pulled myself up before grabbing the next rung. I did this a few more times until I could finally place my feet on the bottom rung. I heard a loud bang next to me and saw that Derek was standing on top of the dumpster smirking at me. I glared as he launched himself at the ladder and grabbed on, his feet landing three rungs above my head.
"Show off." I grumbled under my breath following him up the ladder. Scott followed Derek's lead and soon the three of us were standing on the roof of the video store looking down at the crime scene. I stared out at the scene watching Jackson scream at the sheriff and rolled my eyes. I couldn't really hear what was being said, but knew the boys could. Eventually I caught sight of Stiles and watched as he threw up a hand pointing towards the entrance of the store and yelled something I couldn't understand. However, as I saw the paramedics wheel out the body bag I realized what he was hollering about.
"Starting to get it?" Derek asked Scott turning away from the scene to look at my nephew. I continued to survey the scene looking for any sign of the alpha.
"Uh, I get that he's killing people, but I don't get why. I mean, this isn't standard practice, right? We don't go out in the middle of the night murdering everyone, do we?" Scott asked a slightly panicked look on his face at the idea. It warmed my heart that he was still the same kind hearted kid as he had always been. My biggest fear was that this world was going to warp him the way it tended to warp most of us that became exposed to it.
"No. We're predators. We don't have to be killers."
"Then why is he a killer?"
"That's what we're gonna find out. Wolves in the wild kill for food or when threatened and I highly doubt these kills are about either one, but I also haven't been able to find a connection between the victims yet." I told them.
"You know, I have a life too." Scott told Derek and I as we walked into the Hale house a little while later. Don't ask me why we were here when we could've been back at my apartment. I can't follow Derek's thought process sometimes.
"No, you don't." Derek responded with a bored tone.
"Yes, I do! I don't care what you say about him making me his pet or –" Scott yelled out in frustration and I walked towards him placing a hand on his shoulder in hopes of comforting him slightly.
"Part of his pack." Derek corrected.
"Whatever. I have homework to do. I have to go to a parent/teacher conference tomorrow because I'm failing chemistry."
"You wanna do homework? Or do you wanna not die? You have less than a week until the full moon. You don't kill with him, he kills you." Derek told him harshly.
"Okay, seriously, who made up these rules?" Scott asked in exasperation.
"It's a rite of passage into his pack. It's common in situations like this."
"You know what else is a rite of passage? Graduating from high school. And you don't have to kill anyone to do it! Why can't you just find him yourself? Why can't you just sniff him out when he's a human?" He yelled at the two of us throwing his arms in the air angrily.
"Quit being so dramatic." I told him rolling my eyes. Scott glared angrily at me. "Okay yeah. Sorry I was just making a joke. You know, humor makes everything better."
"Because his human scent could be entirely different. It has to be you. You have a connection with him, a link that you can't understand. If I can teach you to control your abilities, you can find him." Derek answered as if I had never spoken.
"So if I help you - you can stop him?" I could here a slight amount of hope in the boys voice.
"Not alone. We're stronger in numbers. A pack makes the individual more powerful."
"Why can't you and Cora just handle it? How am I supposed to help if I have no idea what I'm doing?"
"Because Cora's human. She can't heal like we can. She's a liability." I glared angrily at Derek.
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"And because I'm gonna teach you. Do you remember what happened that first night you were shot in the arm - Right after you were hit?" Derek ignored me again. That's it. I'm not talking to him after this conversation is done.
"Yeah, I changed back "
"And when you were hit by his car, same thing, right? What's the common denominator?" Derek asked before grabbing ahold of Scott's wrist and beginning to bend it.
"What the hell are you doing?" Scott yelled out in pain as he sunk down to the floor.
"Derek, you're being a dick. Knock it off." I said grabbing onto his arm.
"It'll heal." The green-eyed wolf told Scott and I as he let go.
"It still hurt!" Scott yelled.
"And that's what keeps you human - Pain. Maybe you will survive."
The whole ride back to my apartment I didn't say a word to Derek… And he didn't say a word to me. I was beginning to wonder as we pulled up to the apartment if he knew if I was giving him the silent treatment or not. I mean how would he know if he didn't say anything to me and didn't even give me a chance to ignore him.
"I'm giving you the silent treatment. Just incase you didn't know." I blurted out as we pulled into the driveway. Derek snorted.
"Well you're doing a bad job because you just talked to me."
"Fuck off." I scowled at him. He let out a loud laugh.
"Alright, I'll bite. Why are you giving me the silent treatment?" He asked and I smirked. I climbed out of the car without giving him an answer and headed up to the apartment.
"Cora!" He called out after me and I just kept walking.
When I got inside I headed straight towards the bed room and began changing into my pajamas. Derek came in behind me and pulled his shirt off and dropped his pants. He climbed into the bed and watched me as I went about my nightly routine.
"How long do you think you can keep this up? I guarantee it won't be long. You talk almost as much as Stiles does." He told me. I gasped affronted.
"You take that back. I do not!" He smirked and raised an eyebrow. I glared. "Fine you wanna know why? I'll tell you. It's because you called me a liability. I am not a liability you asshole." Derek rolled his eyes.
"Seriously? That's what this is about?"
"Well that and the fact that you ignored me like three times tonight."
"What are you five?" I scowled and jumped onto the bed.
"No. I'm a liability." I retorted. Derek sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Look. I didn't mean it like you weren't helpful or like you can't take care of yourself. We both know you can kick ass. I just meant because you don't have the ability to heal like, Scott and I do. And all I fucking do is worry about you anymore. It's 5 times worse than before the claim and I worried about you all the fucking time then. You're a goddamn danger magnet. You go looking for trouble. You're a liability because I can't be there all the time and we're always going to be stronger together, and one of these days someone or something is going to get the drop on you. And the full moon is coming soon, that means after that if one of us dies so does the other apparently." Derek rushed out. I smiled widely at the fact that he had opened up to me. Usually getting Derek to talk about his feelings was like trying to get Dumbledore to give Harry Potter a straight answer.
"D, I get what you're saying, but we can't let that stop us from doing what we need to do. We're fighters. It's just how it has always been. We fight to protect and we fight for each other. None of that changes now we just have more incentive to fight to protect ourselves." Derek rolled to face me and pulled me close. I snuggled into him and laid my head against his chest. He placed a kiss against my forehead.
"I wish I would've realized sooner, that you were it for me." He told me softly.
"Good thing I'm such a patient person, huh?" I asked with a smirk. He rolled his eyes.
"Shut up and go to sleep."
"Night shit bag. I love you." I told him, nervousness tinging my voice as I spoke the last sentence. He tipped my face up and placed a sweet kiss on my mouth. I could feel his emotions through the bond, and even though he didn't say it back I knew. He loved me too.
